Paying for Virginia Assisted Living Expenses: A Life Insurance Settlement
There is a little-known option with some life insurance policies. If you’re in need of cash to help pay for long-term, assisted living expenses, depending on the insurer, converting the policy into cash via a life settlement is a viable alternative. A third party purchases your policy and pays a lump sum to you that is typically less than the death benefit amount. The third party is then responsible for the premium payments and is the new beneficiary of the policy.

Ranking The Best Senior Living Facilities in Virginia

To arrive at the top 15 assisted living providers listed below, our team first reviewed hundreds of comments and reviews on Facebook, Google, and similar platforms to gather user opinions. We then added the reviews left on our site and ranked the communities on a 1 to 5 scale. While the list began to take shape, we took a final look at the Virginia Department of Health website to make sure our top choices were clear of any citations or violations.

Most Virginia homes for seniors provide the basic amenities – meals, services, and community programming. On average, Virginia assisted living costs $2,500 per month. Memory and nursing care provide higher-end medical equipment and specialized staff like RNs that will result in thousands more dollars per month. Independent living and senior apartments cost about the same as rent, but don’t provide any care.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Ashleigh at Lansdowne:

We had such a wonderful time with our mother at Ashleigh’s Winter Holiday party on December 11, 2019. We thought we were going to have to park a little ways away because we knew there would be a lot of people coming to this, and to our surprise we were met with valet’s to park our car. That was the beginning of a magical night. We walked into the building and were met with many people welcoming us and cocktails to start. The dining room was gorgeous with beautiful flower arrangements on every table and harp music playing. The best part of the night though was the glorious food that was prepared by the Chef and all his very hard working staff. The creations of food and the display were by far the best I have ever experienced in all my years. Thank you so much for the experience and for making my mother’s days so joyous! Happy Holidays to you all!

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Colonnades:

We are so happy to be in Charlottesville at the Colonnades. First the location is almost perfect. We still have 2 cars and find we are only a few minutes from everything in Cville (family, hobbies, stores etc). If you want to drive less, there are cars and buses to deliver you to the door — we have learned that this is great for going to UVA to the doctors. Basically you can get where you want in your own car and, or with Colonnades transportation. When you are home, it really seems like home. We moved from a large 2 story house (after 35 years ) and our apartment is about half the size (1,400 sq. ft) but it is bright and open and wonderful lighting — you do not feel small. Our furniture fit in well and we are very comfortable. The kitchen is small but totally what you need to fix a lunch or breakfast or the occasional food for a guest. Main meal of the day is in the Dining Room and the food is very nice (I don’t lie, it is an adjustment after cooking and making all the food choices for 50 years but the food is good and the effort — not! No prep and no cleanup! The best part of Colonnades are the people. They are experienced — they have been great places and done interesting things and they continue to do so. They are nice to talk to and welcoming. Almost all are happy and still involved fully in life. If you are nice, you will find people that are nice to spend time with. Lots of activities but you are also free to do your own thing — participate or not. The opportunities are here to fashion the rest of your life to your specifications. If you need more care at some point, you will get the support and facilities right here on campus. We are among the youngest here — I am so glad we have made our move and finished the work of home ownership while we were in charge. The only one happier is our family who know we chose where we wanted to be and are living the good life as defined by us. Join us.

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Woodland:

Both my parents were taken care of there the last years of their lives. We had them in there for 15+ years and never regretted one day. Excellent staff, friendly, courteous always and willing to help. I also got to see many others of my parents generation as I went to school with their children as classmates who graduated from PEA in 1968. My name is Jimmy Nixon and I have visited classmates of mine as well there. I fully expect I will also be a “Woodland Resident” before my final resting place at Westview Cemetery there in Farmville. What residents and loved ones have to say about Marian Manor:

My Father has been a resident at Marion Manor for one year. Our experiences have been far above expectations. The staff is kind, courteous and most importantly loving. They truly care about their residents. They call if there has been any type of incident and we talk about how we may prevent it from happening again. They are always open to my opinions and thoughts. I was surprised to see how fast Dad adjusted to his new surroundings and I credit that to the love and care he received from the moment he moved in and trust me…that care still goes on! There are so many activities provided on not only within the facility but trips outside too. I’m amazed when I read the Chatterbox and monthly calendar. ts a pleasure to visit and enter the beautiful front porch which is always seasonally decorated with such charm. would highly refer anyone looking for an assistant living facility to please visit Marion Manor to see and feel the kindness, thoughtfulness, caring and love that is provided there.
