I had a shoulder replacement and needed care for a few weeks. Help came in the basic needs of good food, pain management, hygiene, beginnings of rehabilitation therapy and personal care. I tell my friends I was on vacation while staying in the Skilled Nursing floor. We had entertainment also.

Excellent community! My mother has been living here for years and she loves this place. A couple of years ago she hadn’t visited, and it seems like many things have been remodeled. The staff is very friendly. I met Gabriel at the pool, and he is a very helpful and pleasant guy.

My mother has been a resident at The Fairfax for 13 years. For the first 12 years, before she moved to assisted living, she occupied a lovely and spacious apartment on the independent living side, with a screened-in patio overlooking the lake. The buildings and grounds at The Fairfax are quite pleasant and attractive, but what really makes the facility stand out is the staff. During her years in independent living, most of her contacts with the Fairfax staff came in the main dining room, where my mother still eats many meals with her friends. I have frequently shared a meal with her there, and found the dining room staff to be very friendly and accommodating toward her. Many of them know her and greet her warmly by name. For the last year, she has been a resident in the assisted living wing. Her transition to assisted living was made much easier by the Fairfax staff. My mother is now wheelchair-bound, so the aides assist her in getting out of bed, cleaned up, and dressed in the morning. They make sure that she gets to the dining room for every meal, and they get her into bed at night. Mom has developed real affection for her two primary aides, due to the caring way that they treat her. As a result, her adaptation to assisted living was much easier and faster than expected. For my part, I was treated generously and graciously by staff members at every level of the organization, up to and including the Executive Director, as I managed mom’s transition. Usually I made appointments, but sometimes I dropped in to their offices hoping they were available. On these occasions, they would inevitably set aside what they were doing and devote their attention to me. This was a busy and stressful time for me, and I will always be grateful for their generosity and personal attention toward me. The medical staff and the activities staff are involved in mom’s life on a daily basis. The nurses manage her prescriptions, and administer her medications every morning and evening. Mom is visited regularly by the physician’s assistant, who evaluates her and recommends visits to specialists, or changes to her prescriptions, as necessary. The activities staff makes sure that she is invited to every special event, and even pushes her wheelchair if she wants to go. All of these wonderful people are constantly keeping a close eye on mom, and call me if there is anything that they think I should know. Whenever I visit, they are busy, but they always take time to talk to me and tell me how she is doing and what she has been up to.

I have been a Resident of The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods for the past five years. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a Retirement Community and qualify to consider making the transition to live here. It is now my home and I have found peace here. We have a wonderful caring staff to help us in anyway that they can, and we have a great atmosphere in our day to day living. We have many activities to keep us in good shape in mind and body.

This review is specifically for the Skilled Nursing Facility at Fairfax at Belvoir Woods in Lorton, VA, not the retirement home. My mother recently stayed here after a hospital stay, and our experience was outstanding. The facility itself is clean, fresh, filled with sunlight, and has a very open and welcoming feel. The interiors are well done, the landscaping outside is beautiful, and the food was excellent ” real chefs prepare meals, and it looked and tasted far better than we expected at a nursing facility. The nurses were professional, kind, and always willing to help. The physical therapy staff were exceptional ” they took my mother from being completely bedridden to walking with a cane by the time she was discharged. The staff also kept me updated on her progress with regular phone calls, which meant a lot. When it was time for discharge, the team was extremely organized: nursing, physical therapy, administration, and insurance staff were all on the call together, and they helped us coordinate everything, including arranging for a feeding pump and formula to be delivered to our home. This place wildly exceeded our expectations compared to other skilled nursing facilities we’ve seen. It’s worth noting that they only accept Medicare (not Medicaid) for the skilled nursing facility, and I’m certain that distinction is one of the reasons why their level of care is so high. If you or a loved one qualify for the 100-day Medicare skilled nursing benefit after a hospital discharge, and you’re in the DC area, I would very strongly recommend Fairfax at Belvoir Woods.

Upscale nursing home and assisted living facility. Huge compound. They accept some insurance and Medicare A plans. Skilled nursing facilkty admission and physical therapy is really expensive but care seems on spot in health center/skilled nursing facility with physicians presence. I haven't placed my patient or elderly yet but visited to have an idea.

Today I want to say thank you. Thank you to Gabe Loza, Reminiscence Coordinator, Carl Valdivielso, Life Enrichment Coordinator, and all the clinical and care staff (not mentioning individual names to ensure no one is left out) at The Fairfax at Fort Belvoir for caring for my mom with advanced Alzheimer’s. Gabe is a genuinely kind and caring, hands-on leader who is involved in every aspect of the community considering the needs of residents, their families, and the care staff. His positive energy is contagious and appreciated by residents and staff alike. Gabe is responsive with excellent follow-through and tends to all concerns no matter how small. Additionally, he has implemented, and cohosts with Carl, a fun, interactive, and informative monthly family night for resident families to get to know each other and learn about various community-related topics. I visit my mom several times a week and witness the care staff display unwavering patience with challenging residents (my mother being one of them) who consistently push boundaries. Each visit I am warmly greeted and staff members eagerly share updates and stories of my mom- her likes, dislikes, how they interact with her, etc. Team members do not hesitate to reach out with questions and concerns as they arise. It is clear to me that all who work here possess a desire and commitment to their job and, in addition to meeting the residents’ needs, prioritize building relationships with residents and their families. Placing our aging parents is one of the hardest decisions one has to make. I have peace mind knowing my mom is safe, well cared for, and treated with dignity and respect by her loving Fairfax family. Thank you! Steff, Brigitte’s daughter

After my husband and I retired, we enjoyed our home in an over 55 active adult community in Fredericksburg for 14 years. As we approached 77 years of age, however, we knew the time was coming when we would want to downsize and live closer to our daughter. We spent almost a year considering independent living options in northern Virginia. Even in the winter, our first impression of The Fairfax was of a beautifully landscaped campus with well-established trees and a large lake with level walking paths. No high-rise buildings and it was set well back from the highway. Our home at that time backed to woods and The Fairfax’s setting checked one of our boxes. This spring, we didn’t have to drive into DC to enjoy the gorgeous cherry trees as they blossomed around our lake. As we narrowed down our choices, we found ourselves coming back to The Fairfax to tour floor plans we felt would meet our needs. (King-size bed? 65 cable TV?) We were particularly drawn by the friendliness of staff and the hospitality of several residents who welcomed us into their homes. This was a community where we felt we could fit in very quickly. (We are a retired military family but that is no longer a requirement to live here.) We were invited to enjoy lunch in their beautiful main dining room (4 main course selections each day) and returned for a fun luau with entertainment and the Sunday brunch for which they are well known (Mimosas and made-to-order omelets). When I complimented the coffee, I learned it was chosen based on a survey among their residents. TIP “ Downsize your kitchen for a move to The Fairfax even more than you planned. We feel it is vital to be active physically and socially as we grow older. My husband is making new golf buddies and playing at two local courses. He was especially pleased with the installation of new state-of-the-art exercise equipment here at The Fairfax. I’m enjoying Mahjongg and exercise more than ever. I also continue to volunteer throughout Fairfax County with the League of Women Voters. A shout out to Jill, the very creative Activities Director who arranges trips to concerts and museums, e.g. the National Gallery of Art. With no responsibilities for home maintenance or cooking, it’s almost like being on a cruise ship. Could we afford The Fairfax? We were very pleased to learn the cost of The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods fit our budget and long-term financial plan. They offered a 0% interest bridge loan which was a huge help and allowed us to move in while our home in Fredericksburg was sold. We were even more pleased to discover the possible substantial tax benefits and savings on future care through their Life Care program. We feel we made a smart decision to move to The Fairfax at this stage in our lives and look forward to aging in place in our new community.

We’ve been at The Fairfax for twelve years and are very glad for it. We had visited many places on our search for a place to retire ” The Fairfax became our favorite then and has lived up to all our hopes. We love the beautiful campus and continue to thrive on the many walking paths, scenic views, and bounty of nature, be it wildlife or vegetation. We wanted to customize our unit, and management helped us realize our goals. The staff is and has been friendly, helpful, and responsive ” front desk, kitchen and dining, maintenance, security, and all. Access and availability to facilities and healthcare has been especially important over the years. Last and not least, we love our community of fellow retirees ” whether people we’ve know most our lives or new friends we’ve met while here, The Fairfax is the center of our comfortable, sociable, satisfying, and nurturing world.

Following an extensive process of visiting and reviewing many active independent senior living facilities, we decided on The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods in Virginia. We have been living here approximately seven months and have been very happy. The many acres of woods, two ponds and miles of walking paths are beautiful and well maintained. The buildings including living and activity spaces are such that one can be proud to call them home. The food is excellent. There is a full array of activities and amenities to choose from and be as engaged as desired. However, the most important assets of The Fairfax are the people. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our new neighbors have been welcoming, friendly and supportive. In short, we are very happy that we selected The Fairfax to be our new home.

My mother went from independent living to assisted living and memory care in 8 years. She loved her apartment and decided a move to assisted living was needed. She received excellent care there. So I have had experiences w A LOT of facilities in this area only for rehab stays for both of my parents. There are some really horrible places around here which I had the unfortunate experience of having my dad admitted to. compared to a lot of them, this is actually one of my first choices for someone after a hospital stay. It could use some updating but they were in the process of that last year. Honestly, the food was not that great and my mom lost so much weight there but this was not all just from the food but also from the situation she was in. My recommendation if you have somebody there is to plan on taking them food. It is relatively clean and it is relatively clean and fairly easy to visit said person. I had an issue with one staff member in particular, but considering how many people came in contact with my mother that’s really not so bad. The staff for the most part are very caring nice people. My one piece of advice would be to carefully look at your bills and insurance statements while you have a family member there. As I said all in all, I would recommend it. You just have to be very involved and plan on being there every day so that you can advocate for said person. I would certainly have my mother go there again when needed.
