Paying for Virginia Assisted Living Expenses: A Life Insurance Settlement
There is a little-known option with some life insurance policies. If you’re in need of cash to help pay for long-term, assisted living expenses, depending on the insurer, converting the policy into cash via a life settlement is a viable alternative. A third party purchases your policy and pays a lump sum to you that is typically less than the death benefit amount. The third party is then responsible for the premium payments and is the new beneficiary of the policy.

Ranking The Best Senior Living Facilities in Virginia

To arrive at the top assisted living providers listed below, our team first reviewed hundreds of comments and reviews on Facebook, Google, and similar platforms to gather user opinions. We then added the reviews left on our site and ranked the communities on a 1 to 5 scale. While the list began to take shape, we took a final look at the Virginia Department of Health website to make sure our top choices were clear of any citations or violations.

Most Virginia homes for seniors provide the basic amenities – meals, services, and community programming. On average, Virginia assisted living costs $2,500 per month. Memory and nursing care provide higher-end medical equipment and specialized staff like RNs that will result in thousands more dollars per month. Independent living and senior apartments cost about the same as rent, but don’t provide any care.

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Virginian:

The Virginian is the best community! We looked at many places for my grandmother. We relocated her and found this place to have everything we could possibly need! We met residents and staff which was nice. They just finished a massive renovation. It looks like a resort when you walk in. They have 5 new restaurants including a bar, wine cellar and a bistro. We liked that there were so many offerings that many places didn’t have. We ultimately chose The Virginian because it was a rental that has all care one could need for life and not have to move again.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Rosewood Village at Hollymead Town Center:

My family is so very appreciative that they had a spot for our mother when she needed extra care. The staff is so caring. Posting her name on the welcome board was a very nice touch and made her feel at home right away. Our mother always loves how wonderfully the facility is decorated especially during the holidays. There are always so many activities to pick from. The nursing staff and physical therapy staff provide excellent care. She appreciates the friendships she’s developed since being there and is especially impressed with the friendliness and care from the cafeteria staff and their willingness to accommodate her special diet needs. She was also especially grateful to the maintenance staff who were always responsive to needs and willing to help. Thanks so much to all from the family of Doreen Good.

My mother went from independent living to assisted living and memory care in 8 years. She loved her apartment and decided a move to assisted living was needed. She received excellent care there. When she moved to memory care she actually thrived. She gained weight and received excellent care from the staff. We were so happy she moved into the Fairfax. They became our family too. I highly recommend the Fairfax!!!!

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Arbors Independent Living:

I just love it here! My mother was one of the original residents to live at The Arbors. My brother and I loved it for her. However, when it came time, and I wanted to move, I visited another senior-living community. I couldn’t believe how much money they wanted to just move in and then pay a lot for monthly rent. I told my brother, “Let’s go to The Arbors.” Fortunately, I was not disappointed! It was almost the same as when my Mother lived there… no huge down-payment! Now, I live in a great 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment that I like very much. I am so happy that I made the decision to make The Arbors my permanent home!

My mother was a patient on the Brantley unit for rehabilitation to get her strength back and her balance. From being sepsis. In three weeks what a difference we have seen in her. Molly in PT was wonderful we wish she could come to her PT at her home and get her even stronger. She is walking so much better not complaining of back pain. No short of breath. Our family thanks everyone for the care she received and staying on top of her physical health and therapy. Big shout to MOLLY in PT and the other staff.
