2024 Top Connecticut Senior Living Communities

Moving into a senior living community is not the easiest decision. It is a big step, and unfortunately, not all providers are alike. The options can be overwhelming, but regardless of whether you’re seeking assisted living, memory and nursing care, or independent living, Connecticut has a range of centers to choose from. The big question – where do I start?

At ALC we’ve put together a list of the top 15 facilities in Connecticut. There are plenty more where these came from, so don’t worry if none of the 15 are in your neighborhood. Our senior living directory is a great resource to keep handy, allowing you to filter and search by zip code, city, as well as living type. Beginning this process on the right foot is important, so if you have any doubts or questions do contact us. A senior care advisor is available to guide you.

A Tip to Cover Connecticut Senior Living Center Costs: VA Benefits
The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers a host of benefits to eligible wartime veterans. One of those is the Aid and Attendance benefit, awarded to veterans as well as surviving spouses to help pay for daily living assisted activities. This includes, but is not limited to feeding, bathing, toileting, and dressing. Many senior care homes offer assistance in these areas and in 2021 some eligible veterans can receive nearly $2,000 per month through the Aid and Attendance benefit.

Ranking The Best Senior Living Facilities in Connecticut

Rankings are not easy. There are opinions to consider, as well as facts and figures. To arrive at our 15 best providers we read through reviews on Facebook and Google and crossed them with reviews on our site. At that point, we consulted the Connecticut Department of Health to assess any pending violations or complaints.

Depending on the senior’s needs, some communities such as memory care will invariably cost more than independent living, for example. There are also specialized services, with nearly all providers, that are added to the center’s base price. On average, a senior living facility in Connecticut costs $3,500, and this typically includes housing, meals, and entry-level amenities and services.

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Landing of North Haven:

What a pleasure it was to deal with the folks at The Landing. They are very professional, yet they make you feel like family. Their facility is spotless and their attention to detail is impressive as they continue to protect their residents throughout this Pandemic. They have been incredibly accommodating and generous to our organization for our fundraising events. This will allow us more flexibility in giving back to our community.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Colebrook Village at Hebron:

My mother has been at Colebrook Village for about a year. She was one of the first to move in. Although she was anxious about the move it turned out to be great for her. She has a social life again and enjoys meals with her friends in the dining room (the food is excellent, BTW). The staff is extremely attentive. Her apartment is beautiful. (They even helped her hang her photos!) After a recent health crisis it was her desire to get back home to Colebrook Village that motivated her recovery. We cant say enough good things about the facility and the staff. Highly recommended.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Farmington Station Senior Living:

We love Farmington Station. The ladies at the front desk are always smiling and friendly whether you’re coming or going. They chat with my Mom when I take her out for dinner and are happy when she steals their mints. My Mom is in the Compass Care unit. Her room is big and bright with a wall to wall window that she can look out every day and see mother nature, or wave at the people trekking past on the half mile path that goes around the building. Curtains and artwork and mirrors were hung for us, and done really quickly so she felt at home as soon as possible. It is always so clean and the staff is very friendly and knew from day one who I belonged to when I visited. The common areas are decorated for whatever holiday, and even the staff dresses up. Christmas was so joyful. Colorful plates and cups are set at the tables and they use cloth napkins. Better than I get at home. There is a monthly calendar displayed of all the daily activities. Every day is filled. They tell me my Mom is a really good bowler – true its Wii bowling but my Mom? Bowling? She’s doing things we would never expect. Here’s what sold us. As we were touring the facility with Frank he was greeted by everyone staff and residents and he called each of them by name. That meant to us that he was not just a sales guy in the front office. One couple even stopped us to tell us this was the third place they had tried and was the best. In the Compass Care unit the four women seated at the first dining table were more than happy to tell me how they loved it there. I have five siblings and I think we all emailed or texted Frank frequently in that first month. He responded to all of us with patience and reassurance and he still is to this day. Farmington Station has been uber sensitive with the COVID-19 protocols and have kept the families informed every week of their policies and practices. There is never a feeling that my Mom isn’t safe. Thank you all at Farmington Station for keeping my Mom happy and healthy

Approximately a month ago, I surprised my mother with a late visit in Egis, the Memory Care Unit at Stonebrook. It was a last minute appt. I made 20 minutes before arriving on site and before anybody had a chance to tell her or the staff I was coming! Upon entering Egis, I heard laughing and talking coming from her room! I surprised Mom, as well as two staff members, Nanipo and Johnnay having a sweet time together. My heart was SO THANKFUL to see Mom in her home relaxed and being loved on by the staff. My heart was SO THANKFUL to see these 2 staff members truly enjoying my mom! My heart was SO THANKFUL knowing my mother is happy and in good hands at Stonebrook Village.

Seacrest Retirement Center truly brought my mom back to life. Staff members are like family to me now, and knowing my mom has wonderful folks looking after her morning, noon and night means the world to me. And the fact that Seacrest is located right on the water is a double bonus! And did I mention they have great food, the best rec director on the planet and a lot of laughter echoing through the corridors? You can’t put a price on that! I could go on, but I’ll stop there.

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Village at Mariners Point:

The Village at Mariners Point is heads above any community of its kind. Over the course of a year, my husband and I investigated over two dozen such places to find a home for Mom. We found the perfect spot overlooking the beautiful waters of Long Island Sound, with residents rooms that are spacious, up to date, and grounds that are well kept and inviting. But most importantly, Mariners has become a home for Mom. We cannot say enough about the staff and the care they provide. Whether its housekeeping, personal aides, nursing, food services and others, all have a caring smile and treat mom as if she were family. Mom looks forward to mealtime each day and enjoys choosing her meals from the healthy and varied menu. She tells us its like eating out everyday. Kim Kelly-Rubin the Director of Mariners continues to be a sheer joy to work with. From our first interview to date all our questions, concerns, and needs for Mom have been answered and addressed with a true concern for what’s best for Mom. She makes the place tick and is always available to guide us through the sometimes confusing and complicated world of assisted living facilities. The Pandemics special challenges for all of us and for Mariners were met head on. They put special protocols in place and have updated operational changes as the virus severity changed. We sleep at night knowing Mom is in the best of hands. Most importantly Mariners and the entire staff make Mom feel like shes home. Diane and George
