Nursing care was excellent, however, administrative care lacks. I called, emailed, and left messages with the top administrator to please get back to me with concerns I had. He totally ignored me, thus forcing me to contact the main office in Massachusetts for help. All it takes is one bad experience to tarnish a reputation. Nursing care was excellent. Retraining admin on how to deal with clients families who are already stressed is another. I have found another facility nearby that is not only less expensive, but care is exceptional! Make sure you take the time to research communities before you decide. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SUFFIELD, for the way they treated me. Certainly not with respect! AND I GUESS TOP ADMINISTRATORS/ OWNERS RESPOND AND CONGRATULATE POSITIVE REVIEWS.. IF YOU HAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEY DONT EVEN RESPOND! THATS WHY I GAVE THEM 2 STARS TJHEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN FIXING THE PROBLEMS As I said I DO NOT RECOMMEND SUFFIELD. There are many better options.

The staff at Suffield By The River is fantastic, from the curated tour with complimentary dinner by their chef to the nursing staff and care givers who exceed expectations with compassionate care and understanding. We couldn’t be happier with activities and amenities for mom. She’s made quick friends and though she was adamant this was temporary and she wasn’t going to stay, and in just a couple months she regained her strength and confidence and doesn’t want to leave!

This assisted living has exceeded every expectation. The staff is kind, responsive, and treats residents like family. Jim, the Executive Director goes above and beyond for his families. The community as a whole feels organized and resident focused. Jim’s approach is refreshing. You can tell he truly cares about the people who live and work here. I reccomend visiting this community!

My MIL moved in 6 weeks ago and is thriving!!! She had lived by herself in a condo with very nice neighbors-but this is so much better!!! Mom gets socialization every single day. She has become involved in the choir, Wii bowling, Rumikub tournaments, movie nights, flower arranging and even the exercise classes. Her cognitive abilities are the best we’ve seen in at least 9 months! And the best part, I can sleep at night knowing she is safe and happy! Great, attentive staff really makes Mom feel at home and she doesn’t have to wait for help!

I'm a musician who performs often at Suffield by the River which is one of my favorite places to perform. Each time I enter their facility I feel at home with the residents and staff. Working with Nancy Crommett, the Resident Engagement Director, is wonderful. Every interaction with her is friendly and professional. Nancy is a joy to work with, and I always look forward to our next performance.

I recently visited Suffield by the River and was so impressed by everything this community has to offer. The setting along the Connecticut River is absolutely stunning”the views alone make the atmosphere feel calm, peaceful, and uplifting. While I was there, I saw residents gathered around the piano, playing and singing together, which was such a heartwarming moment that really showcased the strong sense of community here. I also had the opportunity to try the dining experience and was blown away by the quality. The steak frites I enjoyed were delicious”beautifully prepared and truly restaurant-quality. The dining room itself had a lively, social energy that made the whole experience feel elevated and enjoyable. On top of all this, I was especially impressed with the Executive Director, Jim. He took the time to answer questions about the admission and move-in process with such attention to detail, making everything clear and approachable. His professionalism and care for both residents and families truly stood out. Suffield by the River is a remarkable community that balances beautiful surroundings, exceptional dining, and a genuine commitment to resident well-being. I would highly recommend a visit.

Suffield by the River has been a perfect place for my mother. My family moved her up here from New Jersey where she has lived her entire life. She is shy and we were nervous about the move. She has settled in and is quite happy. Whenever people ask her if she likes it she always says, "yes, I have a nice apartment and everyone is so nice to me." The entire staff is friendly. There are numerous activities every day and at least once a month they have a special event where the executive staff participates. They will dress up for the themed occasion, help serve food and bring in live music. The staff goes out of their way to make the residents feel special. The aids and nurses treat my mother with warmth and provide the care that she needs. The facility is clean, nice and small enough to give you a family feel. It has been a perfect placement for my 94 year old mother.

My Mom has been living at Suffield By The River for six years. She frequently tells me how much she loves her apartment and being a part of the community. Suffield By The River offers many activities within the community. My Mom’s favorite is singing in the choir. They also offer excursions outside of the community for the residents to shop at local stores and enjoy lunches at local restaurants. The staff are kind, caring and understanding. From the receptionist at the front desk to the aides, nurses, dining room staff, maintenance/cleaning crew, activities staff, and directors. I’m so happy we chose Suffield By The River. It’s home.

Our 90+ year old parents have been living at SBTR for just over 3 years now and our entire family is very happy that they are both there. The entire staff is caring, personable and professional and we all know that they are both safe and very well cared for. My mother has joined and attends many activities such as the choir, book club and daily workouts and has made some wonderful friendships. The housekeeping and maintenance teams are also great. Due to their ages, the are regularly seen by the onsite primary care APRN and all of the medications are provided for daily. The beautiful dining room is filled with windows and is bright and cheery and has a view of the CT river. And the food is very good! My sister in law just moved her mother to SBTR from New Jersey as she knew how well my parents were cared for. We all have peace of mind knowing that they are well cared for at this stage of their lives. SBTR is an exceptional place filled with exceptional people and I highly recommend them.

Our experience with Suffield by the River has been excellent. On our first visit with my mom, Valerie and the entire staff made us feel so welcome. We visited other senior communities and they did not have the same welcoming feel. This is where we moved my mom in March and she has been very happy there. Throughout the process, Valerie was attentive and accommodating. We highly recommend Suffield by the River for a senior living community.

I have the privilege of providing musical entertainment at many fine retirement communities. It is a special joy to come to Suffield By The River to perform on keyboard along with great vocalists such as Ethel Lee, Peter Annone or Joe Saimeri. Driving in and enjoying the beautifully manicured grounds, great Connecticut River views, and spotless, inviting facilities makes this a joy. What I sense the most is a very happy, motivated group of staff and residents that are really enjoying life to its’ fullest. Everyone makes us feel welcome and part of the family. My dad passed away a year ago and my mom could not live alone in Florida so we were fortunate to find an apartment for her at Suffield by the River. She is safe there and her apartment is comfortable with everything she needs. My mom takes advantage of many of the activities and especially likes the exercise classes and is doing great. Special thanks to the caring staff there and Valerie for really making things work for us when we moved mom from Florida.

My father has spent the last 4 months in the memory care unit, Reflections, at Suffield by the River and I couldn't be happier with the care he has received. He has advanced dementia and was quite difficult, but I was always amazed by how effectively the staff redirected and distracted him when he would act out. He was unhappy when he first arrived, but once he settled in, it was clear he was happy here. He would follow the staff around and want to socialize with them and keep them from working. They would just smile and interact with him, and eventually try to lead him back to group activities, often unsuccessfully. I was told many times, by many different staff members, how much they loved my dad. It gave me considerable peace knowing he was cared for by people who truly cared for him. I can't recommend Suffield by the River Reflections unit more strongly.

What a wonderful facility! I have to say between the staff and care providers we couldn't be happier with our choice. The meals are far better than we expected, and the level of attention given to my great-aunt is second to none. Thank you immensely to everyone at Suffield by the River for the wonderful care she is receiving and allowing us to sleep at night knowing she is in good hands!

The absolute best assisted living facility in Northern Connecticut. The residents get excellent care, the meals are top notch offering meals from 7am-7pm, and the staff get 10 stars. My husband and I are thrilled to have decided to choose them to care for his father. You can't get any better than Suffield by the River! June 8, 2023 Our dad transitioned from the assisted living side of Suffield by the River to their memory care unit, Reflections, about a year ago. Tanya Nadeau, the Director of Reflections, is PHENOMENAL!!! She is compassionate...she knows her residents. She puts 100 into her role. Our dad constantly loses his glasses. She goes out of her way to look and find his glasses. She ALWAYS finds them. When dad needs supplies, she contacts us so we know to buy stuff for dad. Tanya is the best. She is a caring professional who keeps the resident's loved ones informed and demonstrates that she genuinely cares about her residents. She is truly an asset to Reflections and Suffield by the River. We would be lost without her!!!

I had the most wonderful visit at Suffield by the River. All of the associates were very nice. The lunch was wonderful. As soon as you walked in it felt like home. My mother has been at Suffield by the River for 2 years now. One year in an assisted living apartment and now one year in Reflections memory care. She made the transition with no problems. The staff is so very helpful and caring. Tanya the Reflection director is beyond knowledgeable and helpful to your needs or resident. The facility itself is beautiful, it’s in a quiet area. My mom has many CNA’S that look after her. I applaud them all for their dedication and hard work. Take a tour, see for yourself how nice the Reflections Community is.

We were saddened when our family member was diagnosed with dementia and needed more specialized care than we could give her at home. The staff at Suffield by the River and Reflections memory care made the transition much easier for us. From the friendly front desk staff to the skilled health care staff we have been very happy with the care and attention she has received. Their administrators are always available to answer questions and respond quickly. The food is excellent and all activities are geared to help those who need memory care. We can rest easy knowing she is getting the best care.

My father has been a resident of Suffield by the River for 6 years. We found the transition to LCB to be smooth, informative and incredibly resident and family focused. Christie and all of the staff led us through the pandemic with great care and protection of the residents. Most importantly, the staff has always been available for impromptu family meetings to discuss my fathers care. We are always greeted with smiles and warm welcome on each visit. It’s evident that all the employees at Suffield by the River demonstrate a willingness to truly care for the residents well being.

As far as assisted living places go Suffield by the river is a nice place. My grandparents who lived their whole married lives in Suffield were fortunate to be able to spend their final years together in town amongst other townspeople that they knew. My other grandmother was also transferred there eventually as well. Our family had no big complaints in regards to this facility that I’m aware of, hopefully they’re still doing the right thing, my last grandparent passed away twenty years ago back in 2000.
