2024 Top Massachusetts Senior Living Communities

Massachusetts has an impressive selection of senior living providers. Making the transition to one of these senior living providers is an important decision, and embarking on an initial search will result in what may seem to be an endless array of options. What is the best fit for me or a loved one? What services should I be looking for in an assisted living community?

Not all elderly facilities are alike. Some offer extremely specialized services, while others are more general in their approach. Massachusetts has a wide choice of centers, and while our list of the top 15 is a great starting point, our senior living directory provides additional search parameters to help you in this process. We have professional advisors available at your convenience, please contact us with any questions.

Key Questions to Ask When Searching for a Massachusetts Senior Community
Selecting the right senior facility provider comes down to more than the text on a website. Once you’ve scheduled a tour, be sure to take the time to ask a handful of staff members how long they’ve been with the center. If most of the staff haven’t been there for more than a couple months, that could be an indication that turnover is high. Good employees typically stay with their companies and high turnover could be a sign of bad management, a poor working environment, and almost always results in lower quality of care.

Ranking The Best Senior Living Facilities in Massachusetts

The 15 elderly provider choices below are the top-rated facilities based on a 1 – 5 star grading system. We looked through Google, Facebook, and similar platform reviews, and added those to reviews that were left on this website by our users. From there, we assigned a number to each center and then consulted the Massachusetts Department of Health to double-check that none of our resulting communities had any outstanding violations.

Cost of senior living is a factor that can’t be ignored. What good are any of these options if you can’t afford it? While Massachusetts prices do fluctuate based on location and services. The median price for a assisted living in the state is $4,400. For skilled nursing or memory care, that figure can quickly double. Active adult communities cost much less, but staffing is limited and care is rarely provided.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Glenmeadow Retirement Community:

This is not just a retirement community this is a place where loved ones can feel safe, have things to do that stimulate their minds, discover new friends late in life, etc etc. I could go on and on. My parents are here and love it. And the staff is beyond amazing. Everyone says hi – the residents say hi – the staff says hi – the waiters say hi — its just that kind of place. Debbie who runs the arts program is just incredible – I just wanted to call that out as my mom is a huge art fan and this place loves the arts and I think she would be lost without an arts program that’s this passionate and inventive!

From the moment you drive in you feel the positive energy Armbrook has to offer. Mom has been a resident for a year and is extremely happy there and has made several friends. She is also part of the Compass Life Program which has endless activities that keep her busy. The staff is always friendly and ready to assist mom when she needs it but at the same time she gets to keep her independence. Another bonus is the food is outstanding. She always says she has never had a bad meal there.

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Willows at Worcester:

At dinner, on my second day at The Willows, as a newbie I was seated with several longer-term residents, one of whom was our dear now-departed Dottie Kashuk. The conversation turned to Dotties new play. She asked if I had ever tried acting. When I revealed my rather limited stage experience, she recruited me as Louise — a retired circus animal tamer — a contender against two other women for the attention of an attractive man. I put together a ridiculously over-the-top costume out of odds and ends in my closet, added too much makeup and did my best. I talked about taming lions and tigers and my appreciative audiences.. No, I wasn’t cast as the winner but that was such fun! I met and laughed with so many friendly, interesting people. What a great beginning as a resident of The Willows!

What residents and loved ones have to say about Artis Senior Living of Reading:

I cannot say enough kind words about the staff at Artis in Reading. My mother was there for only a short time, however, she was treated with the utmost respect and kindness and I’m sure dealing with dementia patients on a daily basis can’t be easy. They made us feel less worrisome when she was there knowing how well she was loved and being taken care of. Even when she was in the hospital, they visited her and brought flowers or goodies to try and brighten her days. We are so ever grateful to find such a warm, caring, and welcoming environment for taking care of her during her decline in dementia from ALL the staff at Artis. After her passing, I received the most beautiful floral arrangement that I am deeply grateful for and touched by your kindness.

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Wellington at Springfield Senior Living:

I have been a resident at The Gardens for 11 months. Having moved in at the beginning of the Covid quarantine I must say they have put much effort in keeping us safe and comfortable. I’m assuming things will be even better once covid restrictions are lifted. Most important to me is as long as I remain independent I am not a burden on my family. This is where I call home. More people should consider this move while still in their mid 70s. Several of us have with no regrets.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Cape Cod Senior Residences:

My Mother was 94 , lived alone and needed care and assistance for safety reasons , along with much more social interaction. Cape Cod Assisted Living is a gem of a place, my sisters and I were very lucky to find it. The facility is neat , clean, provides great care , has lots of entrainment and things to do, When Covid 19 hit us all, many of my friends told us to take my Mom out of an assisted living place; they didn’t know CCSR. We decided they could take care of my Mom better than we could and they have. They also kept us updated every week , we trust them implicitly .Most importantly everyone from the receptionist , nursing staff, dining room staff , event planner, care givers, housekeepers ,and the manager are KIND. They treat my Mom like she was theirs. We are very indebted to them all.
