The Old Line State is one of the oldest in the union, and the range of senior living facilities makes Maryland an excellent place to transition into an elder living community. If you’ve already embarked on a search for a Maryland senior provider, you understand the options can seem endless. How do you go about comparing one community to another? What are the key questions you should be asking? How much is an average senior provider in Maryland?
These are critical questions, and beginning the search can feel overwhelming. This is why we’ve put together a list of the highest-rated, 10 communities in Maryland. It’s a large state, so if you don’t find your city or town represented in this list, please consult our senior living directory. In conjunction, an assisted living consultant is available at your convenience, to guide you in this important life step.
Location Matters When Selecting a Maryland Senior Living Community
Real estate agents talk about location, location, location. This is for good reason – location really matters. Making a transition to an elderly housing facility that is not in close proximity to hospitals, a senior’s primary care provider, and similar specialists can be challenging should an emergency arise. Additionally, ensuring that the facility has adequate transportation services is highly recommended. If you or your loved one will need to leave the facility frequently, being strategically located should be top of mind.
Ranking The Best Senior Living Facilities in Maryland
Ranking anything requires lots of analysis. There are a range of variables to consider and senior living communities are no different. To arrive at our list of the top 10 providers, our team compiled the user reviews left on our site and then compared them with those left on Google and Facebook. We then consulted the Maryland Department of Health and ranked the centers on a scale of 1 to 5. Those with outstanding violations or citations were subsequently removed.
The average price for a Maryland senior living facility is $4,200 per month. Those facilities with highly-trained specialists that offer memory care and other services can reach $6,000 monthly. The living type can also influence the monthly rate, so it is good to inquire ahead of time to determine the care and services needed.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Five Star Premier Residences of Chevy Chase:
I cannot say enough positive things about Five Star Premier Residences. The staff is amazing. They are fiercely dedicated people with great professionalism as well as great compassion. The first contact with Cindy was extremely informative and right to the point. She helped me understand how the facility was run and what it could offer my 94 year old mother. Cindy, Audrey and Emanuel helped me and my family get my mother moved in to a beautiful apartment in a very short period of time. They made the transition absolutely flawless and my mother has settled in to this lovely community. My entire family could not be more pleased with how well the place is run but are also so pleased with the security and general concern that is exhibited by each and every employee. The dining room and cuisine is excellent and the servers are lovely. All in all, I cannot say enough about how pleased we all are with every aspect of Five Star and most importantly, how happy and relaxed our mother is in her new surroundings.

My parents moved in to Foxhill 7 years ago and it was the best thing we ever did for them. The ease of moving around the facility, the ability to eat at delicious & convenient restaurants, and the availability of fun/interesting events, were all factors in our decision to make the move. And we were not disapplointed. The staff is amazing and we would highly recommend this option for people considering a retirement community.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Fairhaven:
My father recently moved from independent living to assisted living, and the move couldn’t have been easier. Staff moved some of his clothes and other necessary items, and family moved the rest over the next 3 weeks. Staff has been more than kind, accommodating and very friendly. No request has been turned down. We, and he, are very fortunate to have Fairhaven in our family.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Oak Crest:
Oak Crest has provided a new lease on life for many of the residents, including me! I am much more active and have made many new friendships since moving to Oak Crest. There are not enough hours in the day to do everything I’d like to do here at OCV. I am so grateful I moved in while young enough (68) to enjoy the activities. My grown children have said my move to Oak Crest is one of the best gifts I have given them. They no longer have to worry about my safety, and can actually sit and visit with me now that I no longer need help with home maintenance! Do yourself a favor –if you are 60 or older, you should check out OCV.
