2022 Top Alberta Senior Living Communities

Making the transition to a senior living community is an important decision. As many seniors grow older, additional assistance is required, and senior living homes provide the care and attention in these critical elder years. Alberta features a range of elderly housing providers throughout the province. But many seniors and their families have a hard time knowing where to start. What should you be looking for in a provider? How do you compare the amenities offered from one provider to another?

We’ve compiled a list of our top 15 Alberta senior living communities. These span large cities such as Calgary and Edmonton to smaller towns. Our senior living directory is another useful resource, especially if you do not find your city included in our top 15. You may search by zip code, city, and living type. We are also here to assist you in your search and you may contact us at any time.

An Annuity Income to Help Pay for an Alberta Senior Living Community
Annuities are varied and can be highly complex. But the basic concept is quite simple – an individual makes one or a series of payments in exchange for future payments at predefined dates. The entity making the payment is typically an insurer, and annuities can be valuable, complementary sources of income for many seniors as they transition into their elder years where expenses might become increasingly unpredictable.

Ranking The Best Senior Living Facilities in Alberta

To determine the communities worthy of being on our top senior living community list, we collected reviews from Facebook and Google, and then compared them to reviews users left on our site. Ranking anything is not easy, and with elderly housing facilities there is an additional area that must be factored in. Our team consulted the Alberta Ministry of Health and removed those facilities that had outstanding citations and violations from the list.

Transitioning into a senior living community that falls within an individual’s monthly budget is critical. Affordability is always an issue, and in Alberta, elder communities range from $2,100 to over $4,000. On average, an Alberta senior provider costs $2,800 monthly. In addition to location, there are several things that contribute to the monthly cost. Memory care and more skilled nursing care will increase the price, but most senior living communities include meals and basic amenities as part of the package.

MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence Edmonton AB

What residents and loved ones have to say about MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence:

Mom became a participating and loved resident at Mactaggart. Enjoyed the companionship with the other residents and staff, participated in many of the activities on and off the site. The staff were amazing through the COVID crisis keeping everyone safe and engaged, while communicating to the many families. The food was varied and pleasantly served by the great staff. Outings were thoughtfully designed around those with mobility issues as well. Well worth a visit to check it out.

What residents and loved ones have to say about The Prince of Peace Retirement Residence:

Just wanted to thank all the people at Prince of Peace for going way out of their way for us. We have a friend that lives there and all of the people we met there made us want to get Teena’s dad to move in there. Charles stopped by our house to talk to us and took us all on a great tour of the manor. As it turned out Teena’s dad wanted to move to High River where he is from. But we still really appreciate all of you for the kindness and hospitality that you showed us. We are in our 60s and will be talking to you when our time comes. Thanks Al + Teena Petersen

Trinity Lodge Retirement Residence Calgary AB

What residents and loved ones have to say about Trinity Lodge Retirement Residence:

My mother has lived at Trinity Lodge for almost 9 years. She has only good things to say about the staff, the food, the building and the atmosphere. I have appreciated everything about Trinity, but especially the quality of staff, from the beginning. As I write this today, with covid-19 a huge concern in Canada, my appreciation for the staff has deepened. The management have created an environment that has resulted in very high retention of caring skilled staff. I am even more thankful that I know the staff who are with my Mom each day now that I cannot be there.

What residents and loved ones have to say about Home Care Assistance – Edmonton:

I have had the pleasure of working with Zeba at Home Care Assistance (HCA) and I wish I met them 3 agencies ago. They are the most professional of the agencies I have used in Edmonton, and yet fairly priced. In terms of professionalism and communication, they are probably at the highest levels you will find in Edmonton. They are very thorough and have first-rate people.

Luxstone Manor Airdrie AB

What residents and loved ones have to say about Luxstone Manor:

My mother lived at the Luxstone rather comfortably for over three years. Staff cheerfully greeted us upon every arrival. I found that every level of staff was invested in learning my mothers name and tending to her needs as an individual. She really liked that she could have her hair done on site by such a friendly and skilled stylist. My mother often said how much she liked her room and the staff. When her needs became to great for assisted living, the staff went out of their way to care for her while she waited for a supportive living location. Our research showed us that the Luxstone was a more affordable choice than anything Calgary could provide and it was only a 30 minute drive.
