Tips for Choosing Minnesota Senior Living: Ask Questions
Be prepared with questions about the facility when you schedule a tour. Talk to several staff members, how long have they been there? If none of the employees have been there longer than a year or two, there’s probably a high rate of turnover. Good employees don’t stick around, and bad employees provide bad care.
Ranking The Best Senior Living Facilities in Minnesota
Ranking senior living facilities is not easy. There are multiple variables to consider, and then you have to weigh their importance. We combed the Internet, in search of reviews from Google and Facebook, and combined them with reviews from our own users. While reviews are extremely helpful, they rarely tell the whole story. We also researched complaints and violations from the MN Department of Health, Office of Health Facility Complaints.
Money is always a concern, but the good news in Minnesota is the average cost is $2,948 per month. This is lower than most states for assisted living. Minnesotans can expect to pay less for senior apartments and independent living that provide amenities, but no care. Memory care, nursing homes and other facilities with skilled nursing can be thousands a more a month.

I just wanted to reach out this morning and say THANK YOU!! I am so incredibly thankful for all the time and care your staff has taken to make my mother-in-law feel welcome, cared for and safe. Anytime I’ve called or emailed with a request you have responded quickly, you have been ten steps ahead of me most of the time and it is so much fun to see her thriving. From the staff, the therapists onsite, the doctors and specialists that you bring in for appointments, to her haircuts and nail care along with the many activities ranging from devotions, church, crafts, musical entertainment and I’m sure more to come in the next year! I cannot think of a better place for her to be! It makes my heart happy and brings me so much comfort to know she is well taken care of. You’ve done an amazing job thru the worst of times. You should be proud of yourselves and your staff!

Love Westwood Ridge! My Dad has lived there for 3 years now, a year and a half each in an independent apartment and now the Care Suites. Excellent care, lots of fun and varied activities. The staff are so friendly and easy to work with. The facility hosts a family dinner night four times a year that is always a lovely time. Food is tasty and balanced. Atmosphere is cozy. Dad even has a personal trainer right in the building to help him with walking and balance 1:1. He loves the beachball volleyball and exercise classes. Dad couldn’t be in a better place!

Simply the best! We moved my mom into the Homestead assisted living 3 years ago. She was living all alone in a great big house and was completely isolated. When she first moved in she compared it to summer camp. She was always doing something and we never heard from her because she was so busy. Now she is getting older and her dementia is progressing and I am thankful to Angie and the rest of the assisted living staff for keeping me updated on how she is doing. I love the fact that she can truly age in place at the Homestead. With her dementia, it is good to know that she can go to the assisted living memory care or the skilled memory care based on her care need. This puts our mind at ease. I cannot recommend the Homestead enough!
