When it came time to transition my parents out of their home, we sought an inviting place with tiered care options. The Homestead has been a wonderful fit for my mom in Independent Living. Residents and staff have been incredibly welcoming and helpful. She is taking full advantage of the many social offerings. Equally welcoming have been the staff in Memory Care, where my dad resides. Care providers take initiative to support his needs and show him dignity in compassionate ways. Moving from their home hasn’t been easy emotionally, but The Homestead has made it a positive experience for our entire family. We are all grateful that they are settled "under one roof" in such a positive place.

At age 78 & having lived in Anoka for over 60 years, I decided to sell my home and move to a local senior residents that included a continuum of care option. After researching and touring each such local facility, I selected The Homestead at Anoka-in the Independent Living area. This move has offered me a month-to-month apartment rental, my own apartment laundry, central heat and air, and a well rounded activity program all in a caring community setting. A touch of nature-year round, residents are able to watch deer stroll through the wooded area behind the building. I have been very please with my choice of the Homestead Independent Living.

After accepting a position at Mercy Hospital, I moved to Anoka from St. Paul and have remained here following my retirement. I began looking for a senior apartment eight years ago and toured several but the Homestead at Anoka caught my attention for several reasons: it was within walking distance of Cub, my church and the Post Office. I also liked the close proximity of the walking path along the river. To my delight I found the local wild life (deer, rabbits, squirrels and birds) add to the beauty and fun. I have found the residents to be friendly and considerate but to also have a genuine concern for their neighbors. This is an apartment that can truly be called home.

I moved into the Homestead because i wanted to feel safe and not have any stairs. My husband had passed away and i thought the rehab was good here, as well. I liked The homestead because it had a patio and pets were allowed. My dog is very happy here.

I moved into The Homestead to be closer to family and to great health care, and because the price was reasonable. I don't have to worry about any of the maintenance that a house would bring. I would recommend The Homestead to others. My needs are always met and the staff is always there and we have fun activities.

The Homestead has been a good place for my aunt, who was not doing well on her own. Now she has things to do every day and people to visit, and she loves her apartment. She loves to see the deer outside her window and has nothing but good things to say about the staff and the food.

Our dad, 87, spent a week at Homestead for short term rehabilitation after a fall and trauma to his leg. The nursing staff there was kind and caring and attentive to his needs. Robert, our primary nurse was great! The physical therapy group was kind but firm in their work with my dad, and the occupational therapy group was encouraging and supportive. All and all we spent a productive week of recovery in clean and well appointed surroundings. We would utilize their services again if needed, but we hope not to

Do not bring your loved 1 here unless you have someone with them all the time. My husband was left in his chair in front of the TV most of the day. There were 45 minute therapy sessions where they would actually interact with him. Most of the staff have the it's not my job attitude and if you try to advocate for your loved 1, they will treat you badly. And they are not above lying to you. Because of a therapy staff being rude and refusing to answer my questions, I wrote letters to both the head of nursing and head of therapy explaining the situation and made some suggestions to fix problems. Neither of those persons Bothered to respond. The head of therapy definitely treated us as though we didn't matter and dismissed our complaints. They labeled my husband as incontinent and put him in diapers because they would never answer his call for help and he was forced to urinate in bed. He is home now and he has no problems with incontinence. I brought him home earlier than they wanted me to because I felt I could do more for him at home with home therapy visits.

My mother lives at The Homestead in Assisted Living and overall, I think she enjoys living there. Her 2 major complaints are trying to find staff members when you need them and the dining experience/food. I was there in the TCO 5 years ago and will admit my top 2 complaints were staffing and food also. I arrived the week of Christmas and they were EXTREMELY understaffed and the food was barely edible. So it's interesting that 2 totally different experiences in one facility would result in the same complaints.

The entire staff at The Homestead at Anoka are wonderful. They constantly worked above the call of duty. Everyone was always cheerful, helpful, and took good care of my mother. I have been to several care centers, Homestead stands above them, cleaner, better staffed, more friendly. They work hard to make the place feel like a home. I also appreciate the Christ center atmosphere. I have requested my family to place me there if I need care.

Our dad was moved from Unity Hospital, to The Homestead at Anoka, to go into hospice care. We found the facility to be clean and homey. The staff at The Homestead at Anoka were amazingly kind and caring. End of life care is very challenging and they tried to help him manage his final days with grace and dignity. He was constantly in pain and uncomfortable, due to issues with the hospice doctor not getting his pain controlled with meds, but the staff at The Homestead at Anoka really tried to make his time there as comfortable as possible. All of the nurses that called me at different times were warm and compassionate. The standard of care that our family received was exceptional.

I had a 2 level posterior spinal fusion and came here by the recommendations of my daughter who works for a home healthcare company that has worked with this place. This is Sunday, the middle of day 3. So far the staff has been very attentive and very on top of pain control. They all have been really nice to me and it's easy for me to joke around with them. I'm not sure why all the bad reviews because i have not experienced any so far. I gave 4 stars because the food isn't something i would write home about. On a scale of 1-10 i would rate the food a 3.6. I will update when i come into the upcoming weekdays

My father was recently in the transition care unit. Although we couldn't visit due to Covid, I never worried as I knew he was being so well-cared for. His social worker, Mari, was incredibly helpful. She kept us informed about Dad's progress, making sure he had everything he needed, following up promptly with our questions, and helping us make arrangements for after his stay at The Homestead. I also appreciated how The Homestead worked to help families connect with residents in spite of Covid. Our family could have window visits, and room numbers were clearly marked outside, making it easy to stop by whenever it worked for us. The nurses and other staff were also very helpful and responsive, even though I know they have been so busy -- I always felt my Dad's care was their priority.

KRISTINE A RUST

First my mother went to short term re-hab. I had to complain about the dust bunnies & a coffee stain on the floor when she moved in. It did improve but wasn't hospital clean. Fortunately, the staff was amazing!!!! The nurses, aides, PT, social worker, etc - all worked well together and she improved a lot. It was decided she was not strong enough to go back to living alone. I toured the assisted living and memory care units. I was pleasantly surprised that these area's of the building were extremely clean and well cared for. I was encouraged to put her in memory care due to the higher care to patient ratio. I don't feel the level of care was where it should have been. She moved in mid-feb 2020. She was to have a new patient physical the first week in March. Come to find out it was never ordered so pushed to April. With the covid hitting later march that messed everything up. In addition, changes to medicine were ordered and not followed through with in a timely manner. My biggest complaint is they do not provide and monitor toilette paper. That wasn't a big deal when I could visit everyday. Once I was no longer able to visit it became a huge issue. Mind you, she has very mild dementia so she was able to pick up a phone and call me. Unfortunately, it wasn't until she was completely out that she would call which meant drop everything and go drop it off. Then continue to worry how long it would take someone to bring it up to her room. If you brought a whole bunch versus a standard size pack - it would be gone faster than expected. After complaining, they changed the procedure so all supplies would be kept in a conference room and brought to the patients as needed and staff would notify me. That worked really well at first but was not followed through on. One evening my mom called me about 9:30 pm and said she was out of toilet paper and out of kleenex and RESORTED TO USING A SOCK!!!!! I started looking for a new home and most memory care centers were shocked that it was expected for my mom to monitor her own TP. In fact, most homes provide TP and bed linnes. I learned a lot from these other (virtual) tours. I could write a 5 page report on all the pit falls in this facility. I ultimately decided that a move to a different home would be very hard on her (and me) since I would not be able to visit and help her adjust. I had our home modified to accommodate her and moved her home. I feel bad for others that are in a much worse condition cognitively than my mom. Perhaps, they spent all their time on them and forgot about my mom. I thought she would make some friends but most were so far gone. Then the fact my children and I could no longer visit, she was slipping backwards. I am happy to say she is thriving since returning home. If I ever need her to go to a nursing home again, I will NEVER go there unless there are major changes. That's unfortunate because it's only a few miles from my home.

My aunt moved into the assisted living after staying in their TCU. She was resistant to moving into an assisted living at first (after living in her house for 60 years) but she is so happy she did! At home she had become isolated and never wanted to leave the house. Now every time I call or visit her she is busy doing activities or on outings! She has meet some great friends at the community who she looks forward to seeing at lunch, bingo and she is even part of the bell choir. This has truly been a second chapter in her life and we have the staff at the Homestead to thank for that.

My mom moved to The Homestead in October of 2017 from an assisted living facility where she had entered hospice care the previous July. I almost didn't even consider this long term care facility due to a few bad reviews. However, someone said to me, "people are more likely to actually write a bad review from one isolated incident than to write a good review even though their experience may have been beyond their expectations." As it turns out, he was right! I scheduled a tour and was extremely pleased with the amenities, layout, cleanliness, friendliness of the staff and overall updated feel of the building. My mom's surroundings were very important to her. There are many over sized windows, large rooms (most of them are private), gathering areas with comfortable and stylish furniture, wide hallways, a secure building, activities everyday, and light and bright meal areas. Definitely, not your typical "nursing home." When my mom moved there she actually "perked up" due to the attentive staff and having all of her needs met in a timely manner. The staff was warm and caring. My mom passed away just 2 months after moving there but I must say, she really enjoyed living there. Even though the decision to move my mom to a long term care facility was hard, I am so happy I did and The Homestead at Anoka was the right choice. Thank you to all of the staff!
