Sycamore Place was and is the "right place" at the "right time" for my Mom. She is now 89 and had been in a memory care facility in AR for a couple years, however, the disease and her condition were deteriorating. She needed a higher level of care than than that facility could offer. After looking at many facility alternatives in AR and TN we selected Sycamore Place. The STAFF is GREAT, Mom's care is excellent and she seems to enjoy the facilities and interaction with others. Covid has NOT been a major problem for the residents and staff which is not the case in some other facilities. We have been at Sycamore for about two years now and our experience proves we made the "right choice" for Mom!

The staff knew the behaviors and shared their technics without waiting for the typical questions and answers exchanged. Very well designed facility, indoor and out.

When my mothers dementia necessitated her move from the Chicago area to a memory care facility closer to us here in Memphis, my first thought was how were we ever going to find the right place for Mom if we could not do an in-person visit during this time of Covid? I researched, requested information, and connected with several places that seemed to meet our requirements. I did virtual tours, phone interviews, and asked a lot of questions. They all offered something for Mom, but when it finally came down to making the decision which one would be the best fit for her and where she would be happiest, Sycamore Place stood out from the rest.My first contact with Sycamore Place was with Becky Anderson, Community Resource Director. It was heartening to find that her professionalism and willingness to work with us, was only exceeded by her genuine kindness, caring, and understanding of our situation. We have since discovered that that kindness and caring is also mirrored by the rest of the staff, and very much appreciated not only by our family, but also by my mother. As Mom has told us on numerous occasions, They are very good to me here and very hard working. Such nice people. High praise from my 97 year old mom! Sycamore Place has gone out of their way to care for Moms needs. They have wonderful facility that feels more like home, offering programs seven days a week to engage her mentally, physically, and socially. Most importantly, they truly care about her as a person, even on her most difficult days. Lets face the facts, there are difficult days…and its at those times we especially appreciate the professional care and kindness Mom receives from the Sycamore Place staff. As a family, we not only thankful for how well they take care of Mom, but also how well they communicate with us regarding her care.Even with the challenges of maintaining strict Covid restrictions, Sycamore Place has been a true partner in working with us to make Moms transition to their memory care facility as seamless and as painless a process as possible. Though its never an easy decision for any family, Sycamore Place was the right one for Mom and for us.

Sycamore Place is an outstanding facility that offers residents with memory care needs a safe and professional home. I have the responsibility of caring for my late husbands mother who began having memory deficits slowly then progressing to the point of requiring around the clock care for her wellbeing and safety. I had to move her from her hometown to Memphis so that I could adequately oversee the care she required. I am a registered nurse and know that unfortunately not all facilities are equal when it comes to the care and dignity of residents who are totally dependent on others for their wellbeing. I am a Memphian as well and I began my search for the best place that would extend exceptional care for my mother in law. From the beginning, walking into Sycamore Place was impressive from start to finish of the tour they offered me. It was not only a beautiful facility but was well planned logistically for someone with memory deficits to provide safety and security. Moving someone into a new home is challenging not only for the resident but for the loved one who leaves them behind entrusting their family member to others. Sycamore Place provides a lovely furnished room with basic necessities such as linens but allows you the freedom to personalize your loved ones room to provide familiarity which is very helpful in transition for a memory challenged person. The entire staff at Sycamore Place has demonstrated especially during this recent pandemic that they have standards that are high and hold all accountable to give the best possible care to the residents. Very soon after my mother in law was living at Sycamore Place she became part of a family. Every staff person became immediately involved with her to understand who she was as a person and to learn how best to meet her daily needs. Every quarter there is a professional care plan meeting with me to review any changes and concerns regarding my mother in laws care. The nurses always alert me to any concerns by phone and keep me informed of my mother in laws status. For example, they called to alert me to the first Covid case in the facility and how my mother in law would be cared for. This is an extra ordinary challenge as daily memory challenged residents simply cannot understand why their caregiver is now wearing a face mask. The administrator of this facility has done an outstanding job to oversee this facility with all the many challenges that 2020 brings to health care. I am very proud to say that I would recommend Sycamore Place to someone who is unable to care for their loved one who has been affected by memory loss. Unfortunately the facility was required to make some very hard decisions regarding in person visitation but are being compliant with the Shelby County Health Department standards. However, they have provided alternative ways for one to visit your loved one such as Video chats (headphones to assist with hearing deficits) and Window Visits with a speaker to talk to your loved one. The staff at Sycamore Place are truly my heroes! My gratitude is immeasurable to all who serve there to care for my sweet but oftentimes challenging mother in law. I am blessed for her to be a part of the Sycamore Place Family.

This place has been a Godsend. They care about my Mom. My mom feels loved and cared for here. (She isnt yelled or fussed at like she was at her previous place...The Blake in Oxford..they said she was aggressive, but come to find out..it was because of how THEY were treating her there when we werent around.) At Sycamore, they try not to say no to the residents....instead they distract or redirect them as needed. She has been at Sycamore for almost 5 months and we have been very pleased with her care. I just hate that we didnt move her here sooner. She shares a room, which I thought might be a problem, but it has been just fine. Sycamore prefers them to be out in the community where they can be seen and have them interact with each other and the staff. The rooms are fully furnished, which is very nice. Also, Sycamore provides bed linens, towels and washcloths. (you can bring your own,if you prefer).During the day, they are encouraged to participate in the activities. They can watch tv in the 2 different tv rooms-dens. There is comfortable seating all through the hallways where they can sit and talk to others or just sit and rest. When Im there, I notice the residents participating in activities or talking to each other, walking the halls with others or by themselves, some are taking naps, some are watching tv. Staff is always around...interacting with, helping, talking to or just watching the residents as they go about their daily living. Also, they have 3 secured, beautiful outside places for them to enjoy. The staff has been helpful and nice each time I visit Mom. (I visit 1-3 times a week.) The staff interacts with Mom when Im there and they are very kind to her. There are those that I REALLY like and others that are ok. But so far there hasnt been anyone that I dislike or that I feel is treating Mom poorly. The caregivers have specific residents that they are responsible for throughout their shifts (Which is great! That means no one is forgotten about.) I dont know the specifics, but I know that they rotate to different residents different days so that they all get to know ALL of the residents. Some activities: nails painted, games, exercise, crafts, singing, dancing, Bible study, outings to various places-for those who can go, cooking-baking, flower arranginThere is a hair salon in the community where they can have it cut, styled or permed regularly. They have 2 dining rooms. Not b-c there are too many residents...but b-c they want the residents to preserve their dignity. One of the dining rooms is for the residents who may need assistance in eating. They dont want those who need assistance to feel inadequate around those who dont. There are nurses on duty 24-7. The upper management take turns working weekend shifts, so there is management there 7 days a week. They can run labs and do x-rays on site. They have dental check ups available for those who want them. After about 5 months, I am still pleased with the care and treatment my mom receives at Sycamore. Im hoping that never changes.
