I was one of those people who swore I would never put my parent in a facility. My opinion was based on past experiences of visiting other family members. Working full time and trying to keep my mother safe and cared for became more than I could handle. I "interviewed" many places. I knew immediately when I walked into Sunrise Shelby, that this was the place for my mother who needed Memory Care. The entire staff was warm, welcoming and understanding of the needs for my mom. The transition has exceeded my expectations. The entire staff seems like a family. My 91 year old shy mother is interacting more than she ever has and is comfortable at Sunrise. She is well taken care of and I am confident that I made the best decision for my mothers care.

My brothers and I were referred to Sunrise of Shelby through “A Place For Mom.” We wanted the best care for our mother, but we had no idea where to start. From the first meeting with Liz, we all felt at ease. She explained everything and answered our countless questions. She gave us her phone number so we could text her with concerns or questions. We moved our mother in soon after that first meeting. The staff was amazing with our mother. From the front desk staff to the servers in the dining room, the nursing staff, all the way up to the folks on the memory care floor. (Where she ended up.) Every single person we came in contact with only had our mother’s best interest at heart. We can’t say enough great things about specific care givers Paul and Erica. They always helped our mother feel at ease. We also can’t write a review without talking about the live in dog, Pinky and the live in cat, Teddy! Our mother would look forward to just sitting out in the lobby petting the dog whenever she could! When she was in memory care, Teddy would visit her room daily and keep his eye on her! The day our spunky mother passed away, they held the most beautiful heartfelt service for her in the lobby as the funeral home was taking her out. Every staff member that was on the first floor gathered around the stretcher. The activity director read some scripture and said some nice words about our mother. It was so touching. We knew at that point, looking around the lobby at their tear-stained faces, that our mother had mattered to them!

I was refered to Sunrise by members of my church for placement of my father. I had reached out to A Place for Mom for help navigating this unfamiliar road and Sunrise was among top in their list as well. I had spoken with Liz, the director of Sales, and scheduled a tour. Liz and I spoke many times on the phone and she checked in regularly to see how my search and my father were doing. My father was in the hopsital and special care unit until he was well enough to be moved on his own. Liz was very accomodating as I had to bring my toddler with me for my tour of the community. I was very pleased with the cleanliness and atomosphere overall. The residence seemed happy and thriving. Although my fathers financial situatuon halted his ability to be at this facility long term and we had to choose another option for him, I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a new home for thier loved one.

Today is the one-year anniversary of my dads ( John Corazza) passing. Over the course of his illness, he had many short and longer stays at several SE MI care facilities and I can say HANDS DOWN, Sunrise of Shelby was the absolute best facility. The staff treated him so well..when he wasnt eating, the chef made a personal visit to try to find out how he could help, etc. This is one of many examples of showing how they care! Our extended family visited often, and at each and every turn, w were welcomed with warmth and compassion. Thank you so much. You all are the best of the best.

My Mom has been a resident at Sunrise Shelby for the past year. My siblings and I have been extremely happy with her care in these trying times of the pandemic. The protocols they have in place, though difficult have kept here safe. They have not had one case of covid 19 among the residents. At the same time they have endeavored to keep things as normal as possible. They have become my Moms family in our absence, and we really appreciate all they have done in these difficult times.

My father was a resident for over a year. Our experience was nothing short of excellent. The staff who cared for him were kind, thoughtful, and loving. He was in the memory unit, where conditions change daily and maintaining the highest quality of life for the elderly requires skills that were beyond our family; but not for the team at Sunrise.To those who face similarly difficult times, I wholeheartedly recommend that you visit and consider Sunrise. My family agrees and I am sure my dad would too.

There cannot be a better place for my mom. Before sunrise she was depressed and did nothing but watch TV. Now she is thriving for life again. She goes on outings and participates in the many activities they offer. Food isnt bad but they need to speed up service. The people that work there are so kind understanding and friendly. It is pricey but worth it if you can afford it. Parking is frustrating at times.

I am so thankful for these people! My mom was here and I am so glad this was the place we chose. Most every person that works here is absolutely amazing and are always willing to help solve any issues or concerns. From the ladies at the desk to all the nurses and everyone is between, I am very glad that we had them on our side with my mom! Thank you so much for everything!!

My father is doing pretty okay with his move to this community. We might need to consider more options, but for now all is well. This is a good facility with kind people. They provide good meals for the residents. The staff is doing their best to care for him, and his needs. It has been a good experience, and this is a community I would recommend.

We really liked the feel of this community. The decor really seemed to go match with my grandmothers taste. I really liked the way the rooms were setup with a little kitchenette, a sitting area and of course the bathroom and the bedroom. When she is not taking advantage of her sitting area in her room she is down doing some of the activities and making friends which are nice. She is enjoying the food and eating well. The community is kept very clean and the temperature is quite comfortable. The staff is friendly and nice and very honest with their opinions and suggestions.
