Very rarely do I leave more than 4 stars. I believe there is always room for growth. We toured Shelby (newly acquired by Story Point ) and we were on the main floor of the Macomb township location. We also drove the grounds of the new Clinton Township location. All that taken into consideration the building at Shelby was not as fancy as the others. The staff, especially the guide, Nick were all so welcoming! It was comfortable. Everything was so well explained and our questions were answered respectfully. Thank you!

My sister and I looked at several facilities for our father. Sunrise Shelby was the best by far. We felt very comfortable with the entire process. Mark runs an exceptional facilty. The caregivers and nursing staff are very compassionate, understanding and are always immediately available for the residents. The rooms are very nice and make your loved one's feel at home. Meals are all inclusive. There are many activities to participate. The grounds and interior are well maintained and very nice. We are always greeted by name from the receptionists when we visit. Stevie is a bright young lady who is very positive and always smiling. It is refreshing to see someone like her take a genuine care of the guests and residents. The other receptionists are just as friendly. Vanessa and the entire care staff do a great job. We couldn't be happier with the entire facility and our father certainly enjoys being at Sunrise Shelby. My friend, who does a tremendous amount of research, also chose Sunrise Shelby years ago for his mother. He also was very satisfied. Sunrise Shelby is highly recommended. Awesome facility and staff. When my grandmother got surgery, she stayed for a total of 3 months. When we first arrived for tour, we had stevie, and stevie was an absolute doll! She was very knowledgable on the building, and her praise for the facility came true! Through out my grandmas stay, Stevie stayed attentive to her needs, with frequent follow ups with myself. My grandmother always asks can we go back to sunrise to see stevie?! I highly recommend sunrise to anybody and their loved ones!

After moving my mother from another facility where we experienced staffing shortages, inconsistent care, multiple falls, and long wait times when she needed help, the difference at Sunrise was immediate. The moment she arrived, we felt an incredible sense of relief. The staff were attentive, compassionate, and genuinely cared about my mother. They knew her by name, spoke about how much they enjoyed her, and always responded quickly when she needed assistance. For the first time in a long time, I didn't have to constantly worry about her safety or well-being. What meant the most was how they treated both my mother and family. They knew all of our names, welcomed us warmly, and truly made us feel like part of a community rather than just another resident and family. When my mothers health began to decline, the kindness and compassion they showed during those final stages meant everything to us. They treated her with dignity, patience, and genuine love. It was clear they see the elderly as people to be cared for and respected - never as a burden. I can't say enough good things about the care my mother received at Sunrise Senior Living. I interviewed a few places before Sunrise. I was the one made to feel welcome here immediately. *PAY ATTENTION when choosing that special place for your loved one, DO NOT let them pressure you to sign right away, be adamant you want /have other options to explore AND ask this question!! What (not if!) agency do you use? Watch the face of your facility manager and needing information on the agency first. Or feel at ease knowing Sunrise hires their own staff. No one comes or goes without staff assistance AT the door or you’re issued a keycard because your loved one lives there. I found it so much more, at considerably less and exceeding my expectations. I was positive I made the right choice for my mom without hesitation. I was looking forward to having her apartment’ set up before she arrived. I was given advice since mom had mobility issues combined with dementia that I didn’t think of. My mom took a sudden turn for the worse and before I could so much as put the key in the door she was in hospice. I notified Sunrise. It was sad to hear of her condition but there was genuine care for me and my well being. Not a hint of an agreement just if you feel the need to talk to someone, we have people here. I don’t think I would’ve gotten that somewhere else’. This probably isn’t the kind of review you expected. Possibly, it became the review you needed. I wish you the best in this time struggle.

My family was impressed with the level of professionalism, caring, thoughtfulness, understanding and empathy of the entire staff at Sunrise. My father, unfortunately, had a short stay there before his passing, but we felt as if he'd lived there for years, as the staff knew our names almost immediately. We felt comfortable and welcome there everyday. Additionally, we loved the resident dog.

Making the decision to put a loved one in a memory care facility isn’t an easy feat, particularly when you thought they would be coming home from that hospital. However, the people at Sunrise of Shelby made it easy. I had the pleasure of working with Ryan and he put our minds at ease. He said Sunrise’s role was to be the caregivers, giving you all the freedom to be the family. The entire process was seamless, from the paperwork to the move in. The facility is always clean and the staff is the best! I’ll admit, my dad hasn’t been the best patient, but Sunrise didn’t blink an eye, so to speak. They just took care of busy and kept us in the loop, as necessary. The nurse, Physician Assistant, admin, receptionist, caregiversall great. Plus, Pinky, the resident dog, gets along with our pooch who gets to visit. We can go back to being the family. I would highly recommend checking them out.

I go to SO many communities, and I truly have to say that sunrise Shelby is a very special place where time and attention to a wonderful community has been given. They have so many great activities available that Rhonda and the activity team offer to provide life enrichment. They have a beautiful reminiscent unit for memory care residents. I was one of those people who swore I would never put my parent in a facility. My opinion was based on past experiences of visiting other family members. Working full time and trying to keep my mother safe and cared for became more than I could handle. I "interviewed" many places. I knew immediately when I walked into Sunrise Shelby, that this was the place for my mother who needed Memory Care. The entire staff was warm, welcoming and understanding of the needs for my mom. The transition has exceeded my expectations. The entire staff seems like a family. My 91 year old shy mother is interacting more than she ever has and is comfortable at Sunrise. She is well taken care of and I am confident that I made the best decision for my mothers care.

My brothers and I were referred to Sunrise of Shelby through A Place For Mom. We wanted the best care for our mother, but we had no idea where to start. From the first meeting with Liz, we all felt at ease. She explained everything and answered our countless questions. She gave us her phone number so we could text her with concerns or questions. We moved our mother in soon after that first meeting. The staff was amazing with our mother. From the front desk staff to the servers in the dining room, the nursing staff, all the way up to the folks on the memory care floor. (Where she ended up.) Every single person we came in contact with only had our mother’s best interest at heart. We can’t say enough great things about specific care givers Paul and Erica. They always helped our mother feel at ease. We also can’t write a review without talking about the live in dog, Pinky and the live in cat, Teddy! Our mother would look forward to just sitting out in the lobby petting the dog whenever she could! When she was in memory care, Teddy would visit her room daily and keep his eye on her! The day our spunky mother passed away, they held the most beautiful heartfelt service for her in the lobby as the funeral home was taking her out. Every staff member that was on the first floor gathered around the stretcher. The activity director read some scripture and said some nice words about our mother. It was so touching. We knew at that point, looking around the lobby at their tear-stained faces, that our mother had mattered to them!

I was refered to Sunrise by members of my church for placement of my father. I had reached out to A Place for Mom for help navigating this unfamiliar road and Sunrise was among top in their list as well. I had spoken with Liz, the director of Sales, and scheduled a tour. Liz and I spoke many times on the phone and she checked in regularly to see how my search and my father were doing. My father was in the hopsital and special care unit until he was well enough to be moved on his own. Liz was very accomodating as I had to bring my toddler with me for my tour of the community. I was very pleased with the cleanliness and atomosphere overall. The residence seemed happy and thriving. Although my fathers financial situatuon halted his ability to be at this facility long term and we had to choose another option for him, I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a new home for thier loved one.

When my siblings and I decided that our dad could no longer live alone, it was very important to find just the right place for him. We are all thankful that we found Sunrise! If Dad had stayed home, we don’t think he would have lived much longer. He wasn’t eating properly or taking his meds on time and didn’t have the socialization he needed. After being at Sunrise for a little more than a year, he looks healthier and younger than he has in a long time. He loves it there and loves the entire staff! Sunrise is a blessing to Dad and to all of his family.

Today is the one-year anniversary of my dad's ( John Corazza) passing. Over the course of his illness, he had many short and longer stays at several SE MI care facilities and I can say HANDS DOWN, Sunrise of Shelby was the absolute best facility. The staff treated him so well..when he wasn't eating, the chef made a personal visit to try to find out how he could help, etc. This is one of many examples of showing how they care! Our extended family visited often, and at each and every turn, w were welcomed with warmth and compassion. Thank you ’ so much. You all are the best of the best.

The protocols they have in place, though difficult have kept here safe. They have not had one case of covid 19 among the residents. At the same time they have endeavored to keep things as "normal" as possible. They have become my Moms family in our absence, and we really appreciate all they have done in these difficult times.
