Privately owned assisted living home-Greg and Terri Dirks. My husband, a retired police officer with Arvada trusted this facility. Owners are present and know all the residents and families. Front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. Private entry for families after-hours. Several staff have longevity with the facility-Staff seem to genuinely enjoy working with this senior population. Staff can be trusted-During Mom’s hospitalization for 6 days her jewelry was left out. Room was open and cleaned and jewelry was still there upon her return. Kelly, the Medical Administrator, was great! Coordinated well with Lutheran during Mom’s hospitalization and on her return to Oberon. She worked well with Bloom Healthcare and Bloom Hospice. Her meds were monitored and distributed properly and that was important since my Mom was a nurse. My Mom was withdrawn and didn’t participate in many activities, but the staff continued to ask. I found out they had visited with her more than I thought and knew her stories. In the last few weeks transitioning to hospice everyone was supportive and constantly checking in on our family. The Oberon is clean and comfortable feeling more like home than some assisted living facilities. I felt confident with the care of my Mom. Mom passed on March 1st after a year in the facility. I kind of miss seeing the staff at the Oberon.

Last year when the time came to find full time care for my Mom I was so fortunate that I was referred to the Oberon house by trusted family friends who also had both of their Mom’s stay at the Oberon. It was such peace of mind to be able and trust the staff with your loved one during this big transition. We appreciated that the Oberon is independent so not one of the larger assisted living facilities which can be overwhelming after interviewing at them. It also made for an easier transition for my Mom to be in a neighborhood like where she once lived in her house where I could take her on strolls to see the horses and mountain views close by. There are a lot of great activities that your loved one can be participate in to build community if they choose and my Mom especially loved the cozy library. The kitchen staff was so supportive and would even make my Mom some special dishes which was so helpful since that can be a big challenge for loved ones adjusting when making the move into assisted living. The attention to care with medications and check ins to adjust her care plan if needed along with the ability of the staff to just listen and be with my Mom for support was so helpful for her and our family. The owners also really go out of their way to talk to you and catch up to see how everything is going which gave us all peace of mind and trust. My Mom spent just over the past year at the Oberon before recently passing and our family was all very appreciative of the quality level of care and support she received so I highly recommend the Oberon house for your loved one.

Summary: It is not easy to turn your mother over to somebody else's care. The team and the staff at the Oberon house treat her like family. I could ask for no more. My gratitude goes to them (and as always for every good thing - to God.) Story: 5 weeks ago I was given 5 days to transition my 93-year-old mother from Independent Living into assisted living. My immediate response was are you kidding me? Negotiating an apartment move and all of the details that go into boxing and moving in short-term, not to mention the downsizing is a formidable task and as I was working through those details my 21-year-old daughter worked through researching the different options we had. We were concerned for the travel distance, but we were mostly concerned for the level of care that would be given to my mother, we also wanted her to have her own room as that was very important to her. Beyond that I preferred her not just to have a small box apartment and I realized this is not a necessity, but we were raised inner city Brooklyn, and I wanted someplace pretty with trees for her. When my daughter toured the Oberon house, she came back and said, "Mom, Grandma needs to be here. This is where she needs to be." I trust my daughter's judgment. And after quickly discussing and being very thankful that they actually had a room available, we did the very short-term transition and got her in there. But even with the 4.6 rating that they have, it is not an easy thing to turn your mother over to someone else's care. The owners and the Oberon house team have gone Beyond my expectations. I continue to be so thankful that we were able to get my mother there. The staff is professional, patient, compassionate, courteous and effocient. There are no unrealistically long waits if she needs to go to the bathroom. The Oberon House is just what it states it is - a beautiful house. The grounds and the interior are lovely, complete with library and Chapel. But all of those wonderful things that you can see on a tour are far less important then the interaction and care that our loved ones receive. They have daily events, all sorts of things for my mother to join in if she wishes. People are coming in on and checking on her regularly. The nursing staff has been absolutely amazing. We had a number of complications because shortly after her move she had a second ER trip and another 4-day hospital stay. Once again I was given a crazy deadline of 24 hours to decide of whether we were coming up with $2,000 for a 10-day rehab stay or whether it could be negotiated that the rehab could be done on campus at Oberon. The administrators quickly took action and sent a nurse to evaluate and thankfully this particular situation my mother was able to return to Oberon and maintain PT care there instead of losing $2,000. I honestly cannot put into words my gratitude for the team there. The owners, caregivers, the nurses, have all exceeded expectations. The guy with the whole bunch of hats that came up and did a concert the first day my mother was there.... Even though he wasn't on staff, my mother had insisted she was not up to going to a concert but after me taking her on a tour of the facility and passing the concert, she insisted on staying and stayed for the whole concert. ’’ She has quickly made friends there which is my one of my biggest joys. It is not easy to turn your mother over to somebody else's care. The team and the staff at the Oberon house treat her like family. I could ask for no more. The staff at the Oberon are caring, kind and hard-working. My mom lived there for almost three years. But in the end, I don't trust the owners. Greg is a great salesman. Terri was defensive in my first interaction with her. When someone thinks I'm out to get them, its difficult to believe they will treat my loved one with fairness and respect. I tried to forget about it. Fast forward two tears and Terri's communications through the Medicaid qualification period ranged from obtuse to downright hostile. So when, within days of squeezing as much money as they could out of us, they started talking about my mom requiring "a higher level of care than they could provide", involuntary inklings of suspicion arose. When they said they had to formally discharge her on those grounds, and couldn't specify exactly what she needed that they couldn't provide, I started to wonder about the entire experience. They separately described her as "exit seeking" but in only one of the three reports i got did they say she made it as far as the parking lot, a location immediately beyond the sidewalk which is itself a place that patio chairs make a downright healthy place to visit. I cried not a few tears visiting 5 secure memory care units that accept Medicaid patients. Fortunately, with the help of several caring folks, I discovered that if I hustled my mom onto Innovage she could live at a much homier facility that Innovage would pay for. If I had it to do over, I would start with Gardens Care.

When another facility suddenly demanded during the Christmas holidays that our Mom leave because of her changing condition, we frantically looked for somewhere safe to move her in. What was a frantic, nerve-racking search to find a new home for Mom became a blessing when we met Gregg and Terri Dirks, the owners of the Oberon House. They patiently walked us through what the Oberon House had to offer and answered all of our many questions. When we made our decision to move her there, they picked Mom up at the old facility and drove her to her new home. During the next 13 months, the staff welcomed our Mom as part of their family. Everyone, from the caregivers like Aurora, Mark, Gigi, and Silvia. The Qmaps Trinia, Shanna, Destiny and Maria. Housekeeping persons like Marisa, kitchen staff, Noelle and Helena, Kerry and Cathy the Activity curators, Hannah and Amy the front desk personnels, Susie, the assistant staff coordinator, the wonderful Overnight - Weekend staff caregivers and so many others who all seemed to take a personal interest not only in our Mom, but in all of the residents. The Oberon House allowed family members to come by as many times as we felt necessary to be with our Mom, for as long as we felt we needed to stay. In doing so, we felt like we had also become part of the Oberon House family. After over a year at the Oberon House, our Mom passed to join our Dad. Although we still feel her loss everyday, we felt so fortunate in our time of need, to have found the Oberon House as a safe haven for the last part of her life's journey. We knew everyday that the Oberon staff, whether housekeeping, caretakers, med staff, cafeteria, admin, or the owners, truly cared for our Mom's wellbeing and safety and provided our family with the peace-of-mind knowing that she was safe, cared for, and loved. I was the MPOA for my 80 year old sister and it became apparent she needed 24 hour supervision that I alone could not provide. My sister moved into the Oberon and it became her new home instantly because of the friendly and caring staff, delicious food, comfortable and clean rooms and allowing visitors so she felt like she was at home. I appreciated that they had all visitors sign in and talked to the visitors to make sure they were there to see a specific person. In fact the first time some new visitors went, they were shown to the residents room and welcomed. The Oberon was also very attentive to medications my sister needed on a regular basis and listened to her and let me know if she needed any medical attention. I am so grateful and lucky she was able to get a room at the Oberon. Her last years were spent there under the care of a wonderful facility. I truly miss going there weekly and seeing all the familiar faces that comforted and cared for my sister. I hope they are still around in a few years, so that I can be cared for at the Oberon.

My dad lived at The Oberon House from May 1, 2022 - January of this year, when he passed away. We weren't sure what to expect when we moved him, but found the staff at OH to be caring and present in every way. My brother and I also visited at least 4 days a week so we would know if there were issues. We found that my dad was getting the opportunity to be independent (in that he could choose to participate in the activities or not) but even if he declined to participate, the staff was very aware of how he was doing at all times. One of the things my dad wanted control over was sitting and drinking a coke while reading the paper every day. The front desk staff worked out a system where they would store his special stash of coke near the front desk so that when he came to the desk for his paper, they would give him his coke and the news. It made all the difference to him. It was clear my dad was declining at the end of last year. The Resident Director helped to get my dad connected with hospice but more than that, OH allowed my brother and me to be on-site to be with him as much and whenever we wanted. And their staff took care of US when we were spending the full days there with him too! I was so glad that he got to spend the latter portion of his life where there were people around him that were truly concerned about and cared for him. Gregg and Terri (Oberon House's long-time owners) were on-site daily, and also knew my dad and even spent dedicated, special time with him up until his last day. To have been surrounded by people that loved and cared for him like that, is all we could have asked for.

Our family can’t imagine our eighty-nine year old mother being anywhere other than The Oberon. She’s been happy (even during the Covid lockdown!) and well taken care of for the four and a half years she’s lived there. We believe the main reason The Oberon is so wonderful is that it is privately owned and the owners are on-site most days. They are very accessible and really care. The remodeled estate on the hill truly feels like home and not a made-up corporate cookie-cutter business. The turnover of staff members seems to be much lower than at other assisted living facilities, so consistency of care is well maintained. The staff and residents are all treated with respect. Our mother loves the food, the on-site hair stylist and the gardening. The activities are awesome! We are grateful.

The Oberon House is a special place. Owners Gregg Dirks and Terri Tochihara-Dirks interact daily with the residents and staff, which sets the tone for a facility where people are authentic, affectionate, and genuinely caring. My 83-year-old mom is significantly disabled from a stroke. At The Oberon, I rest easy knowing that despite her challenges advocating for herself, I can count on the staff at all levels to address her needs and concerns immediately. It is rare to see the compassion and kindness I witness there. Front-desk staff, CNAs, QMAPs, dining room staff, the resident services director, the executive director, the facilities crew, housekeeping, and the on-site hair stylist all treat residents in a manner that says, I see you, and I care about you. Yesterday I attended an outdoor concert/picnic for residents. Staff stayed overtime or left to pick up their grandchildren only to return to participate in what felt akin to a family reunion. At The Oberon House there is no passing the buck or obfuscation. Family members are informed of what’s happening on a regular basis and treated with the same respect afforded the residents. If you want a true Place for Mom (or Dad) that feels like home, come and see what Gregg and Terri have to offer.

Everyone of her helpers from the housekeeping staff to the aides, nurses, activity director, administrator Brenda and owner Gregg demonstrated such love and respect for her. My mother lived at the Oberon for almost six years. We chose it because it had a "homey" feel. Because I am an RN, I know how labor intensive caring for the elderly can be. The staff cared for her the way I would care for an elder, and kept me informed about anything out of her ordinary day. I ate with Mom once a week and always enjoyed the meals. They had a variety of activities for different levels of participation. No assisted living facility can meet 100% of expectations 100% of the time, but I believe the Oberon staff did an excellent job trying.
