I come there to visit my grandma and usually will join her for a meal. I have noticed in the last month that the chef and the team have been working really hard to change up the menu . My grandma told me that she has enjoyed the meals more and is very happy. I have got to meet the chef when she came out to visit with residents. She was telling us that they have new menus and wanted to get some feedback . We told her we were very happy. I think Robin and her staff are doing a great job.

I live out of state and work in the senior care industry. My mom and Aunt are desperate to find care for my Granny who was in the hospital and couldn’t be released without proper care. Even though she cannot be in a facility I knew that a good Senior facility would help me with excellent referrals to Home Health and Hospice for my Granny to go home and pass on with dignity and love. Andrew helped me and talked me through some ideas, in the end of our convo he gave me a referral to an individual who he felt would help me best. This speaks volumes of a staff who cares for the lives of seniors well being. Thank you Andrew.

Great building, very organized and professional!
July 2025
The friendliness of the staff and the happiness of the residents is why we chose the Firs and was the primary reason mom lived here for nine years. We loved the dining room options, especially salmon night and appreciated how all the servers knew residents by name. It’s a good size of facility wirh enough residents to keep it lively but not so big that one ever feels lost in the crowd. Mom loved her time at the Firs and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for independent senior living!

June 2025
My experience here at The Firs have been magnificent! This is the first place I have moved after selling my home and I was scared. I started out volunteering in the community to meet people. The Activities that are provided are so much fun, so I started to go on outings and participating in crafts and art. Within 5 months I notice that I would say, "I going to go home for the night" and I realized that The Firs is my home now, and there isn't any other place I'd rather be!

We’ve had the pleasure of supporting some of the independent residents at The Firs Retirement Community, helping them receive the caregiving services they need while continuing to enjoy the comfort of their home. The staff here is truly exceptional—many with decades of experience and dedicated to serving seniors with compassion and professionalism. Marilyn and Christine are both highly thought of in the Oly senior community. The Firs is a well-run community with excellent management that is genuinely involved and invested in the lives of their residents. They regularly host fun and engaging events—I’ve personally attended several, including their annual car show, which is always a highlight! From fundraisers and resident birthday parties to special celebrations, they go above and beyond to create a vibrant, welcoming environment for those who call this place home and our local community. The Firs is an established community and a trusted name in independent living and has been for many years. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an independent community that truly cares.

I visit The Firs often to help some of the residents and EVERYONE time I visit, I am greeted with a smile and cheerful hello. The staff at The Firs in Olympia are friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely care about their residents. I could name some of the staff by name and compliment each one of them with praise but I feel it would be unfair to those I didn’t name because EVERYONE on staff has been, gracious and patient and compassionate. What a wonderful place to call home for those living there. Thank you to the staff for creating such a welcoming and safe environment. 5 stars for sure!

My Grandmother’s tenure at The Firs, prior to leaving for a higher level of car, was absolutely everything you would want in a facility like theirs. They took such good care of her and she also had so many friends she made and was constantly happy with life at the Firs. Would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a care facility for their elderly loved ones. Great food for tenants, incredibly polite & caring staff on site at all times & overall a very friendly & interesting community!

The Firs is a fabulous place. The facility is nice and clean, staff is fantastic and the location is great. Close to Kaiser Permanent, St. Peter's hospital and other medical professional buildings. Additionally, the Chehalis Western Trail is at the back of the building, a 22 mile scenic multi-use trail that is wonderful. My mom is very happy here and it was a wonderful choice.
November 2021
Mother-in-law looked at all retirement community options in Olympia/Lacey 6 years ago and picked The Firs based on the friendly staff, comfortable rooms and great common areas. She's just as pleased with her decision today as the day she moved in.
November 2021
The Firs has a warm and inviting environment with a compassionate staff who are willing to go the extra mile to make you and your family member feel valued and supported.
July 2021
My Mom and I were very impressed by the location, architecture, grounds, facilities, staff and residents at the Firs. She was moving to Lacey from out of state and we researched and toured many options. From my first phone conversation with Jordan to the delightful lunch we had on the patio I could tell he loves his work and genuinely cares about the well being of his residents. I loved the way the building’s design brought nature inside in all the public rooms and I think that would be a very positive thing in the colder months for someone coming from a warmer climate. I felt there was a strong sense of community and engagement between residents and staff. We were both very impressed by our tour of the Firs and it was by far at the top of our list. (Mom had her heart set on a place with an indoor heated pool and that was the only reason she did not choose the Firs.)
May 2020
I recent lost my Father in Law who was a resident of The Firs since 2014,(his second time staying there). He loved this place. I visited him quite often and found the facility to be top notch. Clean, organized, food was great, but most of all it was the people working there. Friendly, attentive staff was always there to help. They treated Stick with compassionate respect, and in his latest bout of illness went above and beyond to look after him to the extent that they could. From the bottom of my heart I truly thank all of you for your kindness and caring. I highly recommend The Firs for your residential needs.

Great staff and a well respected, long time senior community in Olympia. Caring staff, clean facilities and great residents. Marilyn, who is the sales manager, is caring, competent, and a great asset to this building!
November 2019
I took my parents on a tour yesterday and it was very clean there. I liked the decor, lots of windows, great looking calendar of events, excellent bus service. It's the right price range too. My parents want to move forward on getting a place there. Oh ya, they fed is lunch while we were there and it was good and I thought the menu and flexibility was great, they operate it like a restaurant so you can eat anytime during open hours. If you're looking at places as a senior I would tour The Firs for sure. Good luck!

Three months ago I moved from San Diego, CA into the FIRS sight unseen. Each apartment is beautifully appointed to create a private, serene space. The activities are stimulating and intellectually exciting, featuring curated TED talks, and Armchair travel, inspiring lively discussions at dinner. An enthusiastic young staff of college students greets you for each meal. Adjacent to the beautiful Chehalis Western trail is a stunning walk in the woods. The Firs is a community of compassionate residents who enjoy Growing Wiser together. The FIRS is the best place to live in Olympia, WA.

My mother and I visited The Firs along with 5 other communities. She's not ready to move in yet but when she does, we both agree The Firs is the best location hands down. It's next door to her healthcare provider. It has the largest library, by far, of any competitor. It's managed by a Japanese company that trains the staff in how best to honor the elderly...and it really shows. The icing on the cake was that of the 6 places we visited, this is the only one where anyone came up to us, introduced than selves, welcomed us, and spieled the praises of why this place rocks...3 different people did that in our 60 minute visit.

I am very impressed by the food, housekeeping staff, maintenance staff, and some of the things in a community that really makes living here a joy. Thank you to Miles and Marilyn for your outreach and dedication to helping out seniors on a daily basis!
March 2019
I've been a resident of The Firs since March 2016. I came from a senior residence in Sacramento, CA which was a bit of heaven. I didn't expect to find anything comparable. Prior to my Sacramento experience, I began communicating with The Firs, knowing that I'd be moving to WA within 4-5 years. I joined their mailing list and kept in touch. When I actually moved to Oly, I took advantage of a 3-month-free-rent offer of a new senior residence needing some "warm bodies" to enhance their recruitment. After two years, and visiting numerous full-service senior apartments, I did decide on The Firs. I'd spent over 5 years living in, and visiting, senior apartments, and The Firs was still the best choice. The ambiance of the building, and especially the manicured grounds, all under a forest of 60-ft+ evergreens, is like living in a tree house. I awake to the sun shining through branches, with birds and squirrels adding to the ambiance. Excellent food, too, which is one of the most important features; should have spent more time on that, but "excellent" should suffice.
March 2019
I perform magic shows for events and was recently part of the Halloween Party at The Firs. It's obvious that the staff enjoy and care for the residents, and vice versa. The place was decorated to the hilt for Halloween as one of the staff brought in his collection of decor. Some residents decorated and displayed pumpkins, and many participated by dressing up in costume. The catering team took the time to serve a chocolate pudding dessert inside hollowed out oranges that looked like mini pumpkins. These are just a few of the little details of staff going above and beyond their job. Two thumbs up!

I have been trying to find the care my mother-in-law needs and have been overwhelmed with her declining health and low income status. I emailed The Firs and Marilyn Richards went above and beyond the call of duty to teach me some starting places to pull the resources together to meet my relative's needs. She was informed, detailed, and specific and now I am confident we can move forward on providing the best living situation and pulling together the resources to pay for it. Thanks for caring!
March 2019
I took a tour of The Firs with Marilyn a few days ago and was very impressed with how beautiful this community is! The staff was extremely friendly, caring, and compassionate. The residents were great too! I would highly recommend this community to anyone looking for a wonderful place to live.

March 2019
My mother has lived for the past three years at the The Firs. It has been a wonderful place for her. The facility is warm and pleasant, and the staff works hard to keep each resident safe, comfortable and happy, while providing excellent meals and opportunities for pleasure and enrichment. I am confident that she is in the right place for her at this time in her life.

I MUST SAY THAT MOVING INTO THE FIRS WAS THE BEST DECISION I HAVE MADE. I REALLY LOVE IT HERE. "It's "independent living" and not specifically assisted living." "The entire staff is exceptional." "They are professional, cheerful, poised and always helpful." THE WHOLE ENVIRONMENT HAS HELPED ME CHANGE FROM AN SHY LONELY PERSON TO A VERY HAPPY SOCIAL PERSON. THE STAFF TREATS EVERYONE AS A PERSON THAT THEY CARE ABOUT. OH AND THE FOOD IS GREAT AND VARIED.
March 2019
The Firs is near and dear to my heart. The staff and residents truly care about each other. They are patient, kind, understanding and always willing to give a hug when one is needed. I highly recommend The Firs for anyone seeking a loving place to call home.

(Entered for and on behalf of resident Bev Smith): The Firs is my home and offers the residents a pretty good lifestyle. My days can be full with interesting activities or I can be quietly at home alone. The biggest bonus has to be the warm caring staff which is so appreciated by us all. We also have an opportunity to become involved helping each other and creating our home atmosphere. - Bev Smith
March 2019
We’ve lived at The Firs for almost a year and a half now, and the place is great in all aspects. We checked out about two dozen places before choosing to move here, a process that took us well over three years. After every scouting trip, we compared what we had looked at and The Firs always came out on top. We even stayed here twice to try it out. The entire staff is exceptional. They are professional, cheerful, poised and always helpful. The food is wonderful as we have a professional chef that puts out well planned and balanced meals. Maintenance and housekeeping keep everything clean and running smoothly. Often when I notice something that needs to be looked at by our maintenance crew, it is fixed before I can report it. The activities director plans many outings and events that are available to all. The people that run the place are proactive, and take their jobs to keep us happy seriously, for which we are extremely grateful. The location is right across the street from our doctors and a major hospital. The abundance of trees, shrubbery and moss give it the feel of the rain forest. The building, paint scheme and decor make it blend in well to give one a sense of continuity with the natural beauty of the area. The interior appointments in the hallways and common areas make one feel as if they're in an upscale, five-star hotel. One thing that you will find here is one that you will find in every retirement community like this, no matter where you go, or how expensive it is. We love it here, but there are those residents that whine continuously about everything. They’re the kind of people that all of us have known throughout our lives, from our childhood to now, that are never happy and rarely have anything positive to say about anything. If they won a million bucks in the lottery they would complain that they didn’t win two. Thankfully, they are very few in number. To sum it all up, this is truly a great place to live, and we would not hesitate to choose The Firs again. - Steve and Bonny Schultz

I was looking for a place for my Dad with dementia. I called the Firs and spoke with Marilyn Jamison, she was so concerned about my situation. She gave me guidance and information to help me to find the placement for my Dad. She referred me to Laura Vaillancourt who helped me find information about dementia. I had felt so lost, not knowing where to go or how to find out about dementia and Alzheimer’s. I felt that Marily truly cared about me and my Dad. The Firs is a first class home and facility for those looking for a place for their aging parents.
March 2019
I met both Maureen and Zach who are employees at the Firs MBK Senior Living Community and I am impressed with their friendly personality. The amount of activities that the Firs schedule on monthly basics is outstanding and I would have never thought that an independent living facility would have so many things to do. The staff was welcoming and I enjoyed the tour because everyone I met was warm and nice. The facility is clean, is in a convenient location and the community as a whole is awesome. They even have a Beauty/Barber shop on site for the residents. I encourage you to check them out.

Since a relative of mine moved in to the Firs a year ago, I've been impressed by the staff's effort to know every single resident by name. The food in the dining room can be inconsistent, but is often excellent. Shuttle service is available for shopping and medical appointments. Housekeeping is a great help, even if it isn't up to hotel standards. Overall I warmly recommend the facility to other families!

This place is awesome! The staff is friendly, they are happy to help, the food is delicious! (They hired a chef approximately 7 months ago - his menus are great) The staff know the tenants by name. The apartments are spacious. There is a walking path behind the building that is paved and well maintained. The building is secure. The complex is two blocks away from a large medical facility. This is a wonderful assisted living facility.
