I had a hip replacement and needed to rehabilitate before I was sent home on my own. I was lucky enough to go to North Woods Lodge. Steve was our main caregiver during the day. He was very attentive getting me ice water when I ran out and anything else I would need to be comfortable! He had a great sense of humor that kept my roommate and I smiling. He would anticipate our needs and have equipment ready. There were many other nice people helping me but Steve was a Stand out who made my stay wonderful! Meg Shaw

My Aunt, Carol spent 12 weeks at Northwoods in hospice care. I wanted to take the opportunity to express my deep appreciation for the staff, and the quality care they provided during her stay. From the Doctor's and PA's, to the Nurses and Aid's, to the front desk staff and Housekeepers, everyone we interacted with was caring and responsive to every need. A hospice journey is never easy, but Northwoods made it as easy as possible for all concerned, especially Carol. I specifically want to call out Steve, Alex, and Kiki for the outstanding work they did. Being an aid for someone who can no longer care for themself has got to be one of the toughest jobs in the world. The dignity, respect, and skill they showed Carol was truly noticed and appreciated. My 93 year old dad was admitted to Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale after he had fallen a few times. He was in pretty rough shape when admitted. He needed PT and OT to strengthen his legs and back so he was able to stand or walk. He was extremely discouraged and didn’t think he would ever go home. The staff at Northwoods is top of the line. We could never have imagined they would all show so much kindness and loving care. May greeted Dad every morning with a Good morning handsome or Hello sunshine . She always took time to chat with him, even on his grumpy days. She always put a smile on his face. Joe Pine was another attendant that was especially kind. He took extra time one day to find a way to get Mom’s picture hung in the best place for Dad. He even went through the menu and offered suggests that were very helpful. One night Dad had a particularly bad night. Janie came in to help him get comfortable. She treated him with love and kindness as if he was a member of her family. Dad was in Northwoods for 4 weeks. He came home in much better shape because the PT and OT therapists did such a great job, pushing him when needed while always being encouraging. I wish I could remember other staff members because they were all incredible. On a scale of 1 to 5 we would give them a 10!

Alexis, one of the nurses provided truly compassionate & attentive care. She treated my dad with dignity, patience & genuine kindness every step of the way. Drake who assisted with daily care was equally outstanding being respectful, helpful & always kind in a way that made my dad feel comfortable & supported. Rehab can be a challenging & vulnerable time, but having caretakers like Alexis & Drake made all the difference. Their compassion did not go unnoticed & we are so very grateful to them. I have had the privilege of staying at Northwoods Lodge for rehab and treatment for my heart failure. I would like to tell you how I appreciate the weekend Dayshift. Kim, Fischer Is an awesome nurse. She always repeats what she is giving to you. If you have any questions, she is happy to answer them. She’s very kind. I would also like to shout out to Rosalie Myers. She is an attentive CNA, and always does what she can to make you comfortable. The Noc shift CNA Kiki Brady Is awesome. No matter how tired she is. She is just as friendly and happy as when she came to work. She is. very attentive and comes to help you as soon as she can. If she is tied up she comes in and let you know that she sees you and will be here to help you as soon as you can. Also shout out to housekeeping. They are awesome people also.

Recently my 97 year old mother was hospitalized and had to return to a rehabilitation facility instead of the assisted living facility where she had been staying. We had an excellent experience with Northwoods Lodge two years ago after a hospitalization, so I recommended to the hospital that they look at Northwoods. There was room. Upon arrival everything went smoothly. Nurse Alexis was everywhere and got us over the rough spots. The way she tenderly worked with my mother immediately put us at ease. Nurse Alexis answered every question, solved every problem, and made the entire experience easy. While everyone was helpful and pleasant, Nurse Beatrice stood out. Mom was not eating, but seemed to favor grapes. The kitchen had been closed, but Nurse Beatrice went down to scavenge up some grapes. The next night, Mom was still not eating the meal that was delivered. The minute Nurse Beatrice found out, she was off to the kitchen. There were no grapes, but she returned with a couple of small cups of ice cream and Mom ate about half of it. That kind of concern was typical of all of the staff, but particularly Nurse Beatrice. I guess she could have told my mother, "broccoli is good for you," but Mom appreciated the chocolate ice cream more. You might wonder about the paperwork. We had been there for quite awhile without being presented with a pile of paperwork. That was nice. Brody had been around to smooth off the edges of moving in, but he approached me that evening after things settled down with a laptop. We went down to a lounge to knock out the "paperwork." It went much more smoothly than I had anticipated and the electronic version was infinitely easier than paper. Brody was quick with any answers or necessary explanations. It wasn't a surprise that the folks at Northwoods were great, that's why I had asked for it. However, when you are dealing with a loved one in transition from a hospital to rehabilitation, it's great to deal with compassionate, friendly, and efficient people. It's also good to know that when Mom is ready, we can wheel her right across the parking lot to her room in Clearbrook Inn.

Where to begin.. we were welcomed easily and with tender care from the moment my dad arrived. From Reception, to his Case Worker, to the Culinary Team, to the Housekeeping Staff and to the Maintenance Crew, each give their best, respect each patient as well as each other. and see to the needs of the campus, dietary needs of each and see to the safety and cleanliness of the community spaces and each room shines brightly. Lastly, but most importantly, the CNAs, RNs, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists who each strive to give the best care possible. They brought joy, wisdom, encouragement and laughter to ensure that healing happens at Northwoods Rehab! My mom was at Northwoods Lodge two times. Once last year and once the year before. Very rarely do I give anybody a five star because I think there’s always room for improvement. With that, I think the staff was professional. The nocturnal nurse Marie S was very helpful. The dietitian Holly helped with supplements and food concerns when addressed. It was convenient to come and go to see my mom during the times we were available. I never noticed a smell whenever I went into the facility, which is important for places like this. Sometimes being able to see the provider was difficult, but I’m not sure how staffing works there. We have picked this place because of their reputation and experience. In fact, my dad was there a few times over 10 years ago.

Northwoods Lodge is a top-tier rehab facility. I am the administrator for Generations Home Care in Kitsap County and I love partnering with this facility. Adam, Kaeun and team are excellent. We have sent CNAs there to do clinical hours, we've worked with patients leaving their facility. Any which way you chop it up the experience is always positive, professional, and efficient. If you are needing rehab care for your loved one, I would greatly advocate for Northwoods Lodge.

Northwoods has one of the best physical therapy units around. It is perhaps the best skilled nursing facility in the region. If you need assistance regarding a bill, like I did Lori Durham will help you with any questions you have about it. She helped assuage my concerns about something that had not been covered by our insurance and explained the protocols I needed to meet in order to have the last time he needed to stay there covered. I would also like to mention Mary Williamson, she is the social services director. She has been really helpful with something we have yet to resolve (only because I need to do something, not her). I feel confident overall that he is receiving the best care in the county here. The only reason he didn't come back to us fully recovered from his last stay here is because the insurance companies are not taking COVID seriously anymore. It's not the facility. It's ALL the insurance companies. They are complete jerks. But I do think anyone being admitted should be current on vaccinations, so they aren't making their roommates sick. That is something they could do. Especially since there seems to be a lot to be worried about. Why worry about that as well? With so many humans in one place, it seems like protecting them from what we can should be a priority. A 30 second shot is better than an illness which can result in death for people with vulnerable immune systems.

All of the physical therapists who worked with me were very good. My primary PT was Sarah Hanson who was outstanding with out her expertise, motivation, and positive attitude I would not have had such a successful experience while at Northwoods Lodge. Without Sarah I would not have been able to progress as quickly I did in meeting the requirements to move to in house therapy. Not only do we address the Tremors but we also researched what medication would work and what my diagnosis is tentatively. I vacillate giving 4 or 5 stars. My mother is currently at Northwoods Lodge.She's 95, broke her arm and been in ghastly agony. Everyone at Northwoods Lodge has been as kind and caring as possible. The nursing staff is attentive and caring. The dietician and head of the kitchen has gone over backwards to give my mom the food she likes - she hated the first meals as did the other patient in the next bed over. Whatever we advocate for or she needs is getting the attention it deserves and without anyone being frustrated with her for it. Most importantly, the nurses have found ways to dial in her pain medication so she is more comfortable. I witnessed and heard an ambulance driver say to a patient as he was delivering her to the facility, "You chose the right place to go, this is the best in this region." Northwoods Lodge deserves all the stars they get. And I didn't expect this from any rehab center before we arrived. People have worked here for 20+ years. I can see why. The uplifted attitudes of the people working here bespeak a community that enjoys working together.

Be involved and demonstrate you care versus demanding the staff steps and fetches to your uninformed demands. You (the family) cannot expect anyone to care about your loved one more than you do. Given that, my Mother was with Northwoods from mid-November through mid-January and family was very engaged/involved. I experienced a very high degree of reciprocity from the bottom to the top of this staff. Are any humans perfect? Of course not, however, if you are engaged and truly caring the collaborative environment you will create will set conditions where your informed questions (that cannot be garnered by showing up once a week on Sunday afternoon for an hour) can help alleviate them. The message here is - "control what you can" which is being present and caring. Regarding our specific experience, I observed that Adam runs the staff in a very hands on manner counting on his Chief of Nursing and Director of Therapy for their expertise. Both Roger and Kaeun are empowered and that pays off in their approach to their jobs which permeates positively through their respective staffs. Because of my Mother's needs, I interacted more with the PT, OT, and ST staff members through Roger. I cannot think of one time in the three months he wasn't responsive, accountable, and made every effort to meet and normally exceed our requests/expectations. The "floor" nursing staff and I had interactions that ran the gamut, but overall were at the high end for sure. I mention this, because my "engaged" approach might not have been what is the norm from that start and it did take a bit of getting used to each of our styles of communication/engaging issues. Initially that did cause some miscommunications, however, based on my overall thesis both party's genuine care carried the day and mutual respect and teamwork quickly ensued. Again...let me be perfectly clear...this would not be possible if we showed up every couple days for an hour. I took nearly 100 pages of notes over the three months detailing treatments, suggestions, medications, and interactions so I was sure I would know what the professionals recommended in order to avoid "he said/she said" situations. Every Nurse's assistant in our area was top notch. Special thanks to Conner and Drake who made huge efforts after hours when I was away to ensure Mom was taken care of and did not feel alone. The support staff from Ashley (front desk/utility infielder who can play all positions) to James (facilities) are top notch. We had an issue with Mom's heat and through Ashley James was informed and immediately attacked the issue ensuring the issues that we could control were not negatively affecting Mom's comfort. I can't say enough about both of these teammates' "get it done" attitudes...small to large they are on their game every day. Finally, regarding Northwoods overall I'll leverage the adjective "empathetic". From accepting a recovering COVID patient when most other SNFs wouldn't (huge gap in our healthcare system regarding when a hospital considers a patient "out of quarantine" and when most SNFs will accept them - see a problem there when there's normally a direct link between discharge from hospitals and requirement for skilled care?) to providing a way for me to visit Mom by follow strict protocols, to having the foresight to creatively partition off a section in mid-January to allow them to service the "underserved" COVID community when the newest variant was causing a spike leads me to rate the overall experience a solid five stars. In conclusion, for my family, all we asked for was a chance to stand at the plate. I can control the amount of effort we will put in to see Mom, keep her comfortable, and knowing she is loved. I cannot control the access I am allowed. This facility is led by a professional who understands that concept from A to Z. He and his staff don't simply talk the talk...they walk the walk. That all said - DO YOUR PART - do the same and don't tell them how much you care about your loved one...roll up your sleeves and sacrifice your time/effort
