The caregivers are the best at Aegis Gardens Newcastle! They cared for our parents in their remaining years. Although our mother was living there for less than a year and our father lived there for 2 1/2 years, the caregivers always tried to ensure our parents were comfortable and ensured a peaceful passing during hospice care. We thank all the caregivers of Aegis Gardens Newcastle!

Beautiful serene facility where many of the staff are asian and understand the unique cultural needs of the asian residents. Always having asian food options is very important to my parents, attentive staff, top notch security, wonderful movie theater and gym, and life enrichment activities are all bonuses that make the transition from independent living to aegis gardens easier!

Very invasive. Any time someone leaves the facility makes jokes of the person dyeing. The gm does not care about safety, drives when texting or on the phone. They are very offensive.

There's so much to say, but in one word, kindness. Ever since my Father and Mother-in-Law had started to stay at Aegis Gardens in Newcastle, we felt a sense of close community and support. From all the many daily activities that are available for my parents all the way to accommodating my mother's dialysis with rides from the staff. They are an amazing team at Aegis Gardens to the point I would also consider retiring there. Their Asian theme is really amazing, all the way down to their food. But it's really all about the staff. The staff are very caring, understanding like true family. Elizabeth helped us with a tour, talked about the many activities and rooms there, and even asked us about ideas about their facility. When such a place asks feedback from even visitors, you can trust that they are customer minded first. Our parents are still staying there and we are very fortunate to have been able to find Aegis Gardens in New Castle to take such good care of both of our parents. Thank you Aegis Gardens Newcastle staff for taking amazing care of our parents!

My mom moved here less than a month ago after over four years in an independent living community. The transition went much more smoothly than expected because the Aegis Garden Newcastle staff bent over backwards to make her feel welcome right away. They paired her with meal partners, introduced her to potential friends, and reminded her of upcoming activities. At 89, she is still extroverted and curious, and the Covid-19 isolation in her previous community was not optimal. At AGN, safety is a priority, yet each day is full of social options, from outdoor walks to movies twice a day in the indoor theatre. Whenever mom needs anything, she just has to push the call button and a care manager will visit almost immediately - whether it's to change the temperature in her room or to adjust her television remote. And she is enjoying the well prepared and thoughtful meals - I have not heard a single complaint (which is highly unusual) about the food. She also enjoys the new building, the diverse community, and unusual Asian-themed decor in the public spaces. It took a lot of coaxing to convince her to move, but there's no question in anyone's mind that this was the right choice for her. She feels right at home, and the family feels relieved that she is in a safe and caring environment. Kudos to the staff being patient with us while we were making this big decision, and for being supportive of her throughout. The only (remote) negative is that it would be nice to have a bit more diversity, including more Korean and Japanese American residents, in the mix. Hopefully, that will come in time as more people discover this place. It's truly a gem. Check it out!

The facility is first class. The community is clean, well maintained, and charming. The staff is friendly, helpful, and caring. The residents are very well cared for and the activities are well thought out and well run. Through the pandemic, safety was definitely job one. I can't imagine a better place for the care of my mother. They communicate regularly with me and I am constantly kept abreast of all operations at Aegis and of my mother's status with her health. Highly recommend Aegis!

Our parents moved to Aegis Gardens Newcastle after 54 years in their beloved Bellevue home. They have thoroughly enjoyed he past three months and are looking forward to participating in the many activities offered at Aegis Gardens. The facility is well maintained and decorated in a way that welcomes you home. The entire staff is professional and caring. The care team helped mom transition from a wheelchair to a walker and I am so impressed at the level of care our parents receive. Mom and Dad not only feel comfortable and safe, but they also enjoy seeing all the activities happening on a daily basis. As soon as they feel up to participating, I'm sure they will enjoy it! We couldn't be more pleased with the care our parents are receiving. I feel the staff promptly communicates with me any concerns they have regarding mom and dad's health. We highly recommend Aegis Gardens!

I'll start with the few positives. The building is very new and has nice Oriental touches. Some of the staff are excellent and really care about the residents. While the food is hit-or-miss, they at least try to cater to various palettes. Several factors made us pull out of Aegis. I urge prospective Aegis residents/families to take heed of the following. Staff: The nursing aids and helpers are underpaid, overworked, and taken for granted by management. This can lead to them taking out their frustrations on residents. The Asian front desk lady is particularly gruff, dismissive, and combative. Points System: Like many nursing homes, Aegis charges residents based on a "care points" system. And, like some nursing homes, Aegis leadership will manufacture excuses to increase point totals in order to charge more. Aegis is particularly talented at nickel-and-diming residents. There is considerable turnover in management and nursing staff. When new staff come on board, it feels as if their first task is to figure out how to charge more points. They will try to charge for services that they don't provide. Call Buttons: All residents wear a call button that they push when they need assistance. The first problem is the variable wait time: residents may have to wait up to 20-30 minutes for someone to come to their room. Moreover, the most alarming problem of this system is that the call buttons do not have any voice function or receiving function. Staff cannot ask what the problem is or talk to the residents remotely. Thus, nursing staff have no way of "triaging" call button requests. The woman requesting a coffee will have the same priority as the man needing an ambulance. Is this what you want for your loved ones? Management: When not trying to extract every last penny from residents, management will rebuff any valid complaints and blame residents. Mom complaining about a nursing aid being rough with her? They'll say Mom is "an old lady" and being dramatic. Overall, if the facilities and Oriental touches are important to your family, Aegis is worth consideration. But if you are wary of predatory pricing, incompetent management, some rude and unmotivated staff, then look harder for other options.

I attended the Voice of Aegis singing competition on 9-28-2019 from 3:30-5:00pm. This program offered 6 local groups performing individual singings，group signings，and instrument performances. This program impressed myself and many attendees very much. Each prrformance exhibited high levels of music training and large effort of practices. These musicians and singing groups are usually very difficult to invite since they are in high demand and very busy. Aegis manager who organized this event is really capable and deserve our compliment and endorsement. We hope programs like this can be offered more often.

Where do I begin …We are so thankful for this wonderful brand-new community. Without a doubt this is an impressive five-star facility. We moved my Mother-in-Law (MIL) Trudy to Aegis Gardens mid-February. I cannot express how impressed we are with the facility and staff. From the first moment we walked through the door the management and staff has been supportive, caring and compassionate. They have gone above and beyond to make sure my MIL feels welcome and cared for. They treat her like family. Its obvious that the devoted management and staff genuinely care for the residents (and family)This facility was built with the residents in mind. They offer so many amenities such as on-site beauty and nail salon, movie theater, koi pond, indoor water fountain, swimming pool, workout room, tea rooms, barbershop, game room with actual slot machines (no you cant win money but you can win prizes), lounge with a lake view. Daily resident trash pickup. Resident outings, exercise classes, etc. Tenants also receive toilet paper, paper towels and soap. The list of amenities goes on and on.Aegis Gardens also provides outstanding culinary offerings! Meals are prepared by their Chef who offers Asian cuisine as well as made to order, cheeseburgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, etc. They also have a noodle bar. Coffee, tea and snacks are available during the day.The décor throughout the facility reflects an opulent Asian theme. Aegis members flew to China and handpicked the wall coverings, beautiful artwork, wall dividers, furniture etc. and had it shipped to Aegis Gardens. They also have multiple flat screen LCDs hanging on the walls that show activities and residents enjoying the activities. They also won a well-deserved prestigious National Award for Best Architecture and Design in the senior living category. They offer studios to 2-bedroom apartments. Some of the apartments have beautiful lake views. There are safety rails outside the apartments. Their attention to detail is phenomenal.They even offer perks to family members such as: the use of motorized bikes to explore the nearby trails and parks, monthly family meetings, wellness profile emails (basically this is a report that tracks activities and a general assessment of the resident and its sent to family members), attend lecture series, family movie matinees and classes with residentsThe feeling I have when I walk through the door is not of an assisted living facility but the atmosphere you would feel at an upscale 5-star hotel. The environment is positive, and the residents seem very happy and content.Although Aegis Gardens emphasis is on the Asian community every nationality is welcome. If you or your love one is looking for a place to call home I highly recommend Aegis Gardens.Thanks to Meng, Ellie and Morgan, for your help with the orientation and move-in process!
