I arrived at Island House earlier this year not knowing what to expect from an Assisted Living Facility. The anticipation of being a "newbie" was not pleasant. However, I was welcomed by everyone. I have many people to thank for helping me adjust to Island House. However, two people on staff are, in my opinion, outstanding and I feel I must express my gratitude. Yasmeen, the front desk receptionist, is always willing and able to answer any questions I may have. She is always in a happy mood, is most willing to help and makes me feel as if I am the most special person residing here. It's a people skill not everyone can convey; and yes, I know I'm not that special. She is a delight and I hope you appreciate her efforts on your behalf. Also on my list of special people is Sandra (BOM). We must have been related in previous lives. She always makes me laugh and seems to know me better than I know myself. She always is willing to go the extra mile and her energy seems boundless. Island House would not be the same without her; and I mean that in the nicest possible way. Thank you to Yasmeen and Sandra for just being the great people you are.

The minute I walked in the door, I had a good feeling about Island House. I felt as if I belonged here. The atmosphere is pleasant and bright and the residents and staff are very friendly and caring. I feel right at home.

Several years ago, Sherise took care of my husband. She was so kind to him, and I felt so comfortable having her take care of him. He enjoyed her care because she is kind and did a very good job. She's very thorough in how she performs her job. She really cares. I appreciate her so much when she is able to take care of me.

Island House is a true jewel in the crown of Senior Care Communities! The staff, is lovely and welcoming, Juliet is helpful and informative and the community offers so much to the residents. My recent tour with my elder mother was an incredible experience and she is looking forward to being a part of the lovely community. My Grandfather previously had a great living experience. Our mom has been a resident at Island House for about 15 months. She likes living here. In her own words, "I'm in the right place at the right time." She likes her room which has one bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen, and living room. The apartment has a washer and dryer, which is great. Her apartment was unfurnished, but we received some furniture from the prior resident who did not need some furniture when they moved out. We brought in the balance of the furniture our mom needed. The rent includes utilities--water, sewer, and garbage. It is great that Comcast cable service and boxes are also included. Our mom's apartment does not have air conditioning, but the common areas do have AC. We brought in a portable AC unit to cool the room down during the summer. The apartment has electric heat thermostats in the living room and bedroom. That's great we can regulate the temperature in our mom's room to make her comfortable. There is a dining room, and meal service for residents is included for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are daily specials, in addition to a menu of items available all day. Island House has many common area rooms for activities and relaxation including a bistro, art room, living room, TV room, exercise room, library and game room. There is also a nice courtyard. The building is nice and there is underground parking. The administrative staff are all nice and helpful. The new Executive Director Wilson is great to work with and has an open door policy. The Director of Health Services Bonnie has been great working with us on a care plan that works for our mom. The Business Office Manager Sandra has been great in providing accurate billings and answers to my financial questions. The new Director of Sales Juliet, Director of Wellness Programming Cara, and Director of Environmental Services Shamus are nice and have been helpful when I asked them questions. On the financial side, there is a one time non-refundable community fee due prior to move-in, a monthly base rent and a monthly care plan based on the needs of our mom. The rent and care plans increased by 12% after about one year. In the past, there have been issues with maintenance. But with recent management changes, things have improved. Our mom is happy at Island House, and that makes us happy too.

I cannot say enough amazing things about Juliet Chandler at the Island House. My parents came to live with us this past May. I knew they needed to be in assisted living but we hadn't made specific plans. I had spoken to the Island House before but had never met Juliet. Last week, Juliet called to check in and see how my parents were doing. There was a 2 bedroom opening if we were interested. My parents were nervous about the change, but Juliet brought us in and made us feel so welcome. She assured my parents this was an independent community where they would be able to thrive. It made all of the difference. As we take this next step, I'm thrilled to have Juliet be our partner and help guide us. I know her being there makes all the difference! She's our guardian angel!

We recently transferred my mom from another assisted living facility, to Island House, on Mercer Island. The staff has been wonderful, helping make this a smooth transition for my mother. From the first day I entered into the facility to tour, I was greeted by the warmest smile and welcome, from Yasmeen, the receptionist. She is a ray of sunshine and always there to assist. Wilson Anderson, the Executive Director, was my first point of contact and was able to provide answers to all of our questions within a very timely manner, assuring us that "Island House", was going to be a good fit. Wilson has gone to great lengths, working with staff to ensuring that both her room was setup adequately and that staff was attentive to mom's needs. This has been critical helping her to acclimate into the new environment. Juliet Chandler, the Director of Sale, was instrumental and a superstar at helping bring us on board. Juliet, provided us with information on the facility, sister properties and what MBK likes to ensure their residents. Juliet, processed our paperwork seamlessly. Insured us that mom would be in good hands. Juliet, provided a warm welcome for mom and helped her feel at home right way. Juliet, cares about the individual resident and not just filling rooms. She has been an absolute pleasure and blessing to work with.

My mom has been at Island House for about 2 1/2 years and she has made a lot of friends. Will, the current Executive Director has been great. I also want to shout out Sandra and Yesmin who are such a joy to be around and spread a lot of joy and laughter to the residents. Louise, who volunteers her time is such an integral part of Island House, not only running a lot of fun activities but also being a friend and counselor to so many of the residents- she's soooo appreciated! Chef Shelley prepares delicious and nutritious food and is also such a good friend to Mom. Mom and all our family also want to commend Sherise for the incredible care and love she showers on Mom —. She is an extraordinary caregiver and we are so happy she is at Island House to help care for and be a friend to Mom. I know there are so many more- such as Jane, Owen, Violet, Agnes, Katie, Ayzhiel, Stella and Svetlana that are amazing caregivers and support individuals who Mom appreciates so much and mentioned by name. There are many team members that go unnoticed but help to enrich Mom's life- thank you all!

My Mom has been a resident for two years, and the experience has exceeded my expectations.

We had my mother in Island House for 6 years until her passing and now my father for 5 months. The physical facility is quite nice and the apartment we have used is especially nice - being located on the courtyard with its own patio and a laundry in the apartment. For these reasons we remain despite continuing disappointment with the care and service. They generally over-promise and under-deliver. Medications are delivered by untrained personnel and they have no ability to provide prn (as needed) medications. They just don't have the training to ask questions to determine if a medication is needed. As my mother's condition deteriorated Island House was happy to keep moving up her charged level of care but have no ability to consistently do things like laundry, assist with transfers or hygiene. I complained by email twice to the Executive director and even copying the CEO of MBK but never received a response. We ended up having to hire in outside aides to provide proper care. Currently on an ongoing bass, the meals are not planned with the senior palate in mind - items are too dry, call for too much chewing etc. The service in the dining room is abysmal and food arrives cold. We happily pay for my father's breakfast to be delivered to his room each morning but there is no consistency, It is frequently an hour late or not delivered at all. The excuses of course for all this is that they are short of staff but MBK seems unprepared to pay the wages needed to get good people. While most of the staff is very pleasant and promise things, they rarely are able to deliver. Much of the problem flows from the top. The Executive Director is in over his head. At town hall meetings he asks that he be reached by email but he never responds to emails. I have repeatedly asked for money that we overpaid to be returned to us and keep getting different promises but still have not received the money after 5 months. As mentioned, we stay because of the physical facility, it's proximity to our house and to everything in the Mercer Island village. Plus I really do not believe that we could be assured of a better situation at any other facility. It is a sad state of affairs in senior living. Big promises everywhere but little substance.

I have been so happy with the care and treatment of my mother at this establishment. All of the staff is wonderful. Dan the executive director is absolutely excellent. You can tell he cares deeply about his residents and works hard for them. All of the staff is wonderful. Sheila, Sanchal, Tonya, Teche- everyone of them loves their residents. The food is great, they plan fun activities, they take them on adventures. I would highly recommend Island House to anyone who wants a great place for their parents.
