We recently moved our 92 year mother, a lifelong Kirkland resident in to Merrill Gardens. Although transitions at this stage of life are difficult, she is thriving and enjoying her new home. It was a natural fit with respect to location, personnel and the wide variety of activities. The staff is very caring and compassionate. Monica Le, Community Relations Director is the "real deal". Her ability to provide individual, personalized attention to the residents makes Merrill Gardens feel like home. From the front desk to finances and the wonderful kitchen staff, we could not be happier!

We recently moved my in-laws into Merrill Gardens Kirkland (82- and 86-year-old) They are very independent but were seeking more activity and social connections. They were nervous about the transition but overall it’s been great to see them thriving with the additional activity and opportunities to sit and talk with other residents at meals and in the beautiful light filled main floor “living room”. Merrill Gardens Kirkland is an ideal location being centered in downtown Kirkland so that they can take neighborhood strolls or visit restaurants, library, Marina Park. Merrill Gardens has a very warm and supportive staff, everyone there is so friendly. Monica is a wonderful community connector and went out of her way to connect them to other residents. Communication with residents and their families is fabulous and the staff are very responsive to any questions.

My mom was very hesitant to move out of her home into a retirement community. She is 96 and very independent. It took a few months to get acquainted with her new environment and all that Merrill Gardens offered. Monica Le has been so helpful in encouraging her to join in the activities and keeping her involved. The new manager Reza, is more visible and adding new features to add to the enjoyment of the residents. A friendly, active community that cares for the residents.

My Mom was looking for an Independent Living community on the Eastside and so we checked out Merrill Gardens downtown Kirkland and that is where we met Monica Le – Community Relations Director. Monica was extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable and gave us a comprehensive tour of the community and just made my Mom feel so at home. My Mom felt so comfortable with the community and I can’t thank Monica enough for her thoughtfulness, patience and professionalism over the 2 and a half years my Mom resided at Merrill Gardens. Unfortunately my Mom passed away May of this year and Monica was so instrumental in helping match up our family with new residents that needed furniture and she was so extremely helpful thoughout the entire time my Mom lived there and after. Merrill Gardens honored my Mom with beautiful flowers and a memorium. Monica is absolutely perfect for the Independent Living community industry and is such an incredible asset to the Merrill Gardens organization. We moved an 81 year old relative into Merrill Gardens about a month ago and our experience so far has been very impressive. The staff there is just wonderful - everyone we have encountered so far has gone out of their way to make us and their new resident welcome and informed. The facility, itself, is first rate and the downtown Kirkland location is perfect. There is plenty of things to do and see in walking distance (even with a walker) and the park on the Lake Washington is only two blocks away. Merrill also organizes daily activities including short excursions which is a big plus. We moved her into studio apartment with a nice patio and it has everything she needs. But the fact that she now does not have to worry about preparing her own food takes so much pressure off (and she seems to love the food). All in all, if you are looking for a Senior Living facility be sure to put this on the list and check it out in person.

Merrill Gardens Kirkland is a a lovely location. Everyone who works here is top notch. I am taking off two stars because the food here is truly awful. Several years ago the food was good. The amount of money that they are willing to spend on food has not kept pace with inflation and the annual increases in rent.

Merrill Gardens Kirkland is a wonderful place. First and foremost, the location cannot be beat. Being in the heart of Kirkland everything is within an easy walk. The actual facility is very nice. My parents room is spacious and comfortable. They moved into the facility in September. Due to the pandemic, there was a very challenging period of adjustment for everyone. The staff at Merrill Gardens did everything they could to ease the transition. Once settled in, my parents have been extremely happy and are enjoying their lives at Merrill Gardens. One staff member in particular deserves recognition and her name is Monica Le. She is a gem; always willing to assist in any way she can to solve any issue that may arise; and always with a smile on her face or mirth in her voice. She is a joy to engage and a tremendous asset to the facility.

Merrill Gardens at Kirkland is rather upscale and more like a hotel than anything. They have a lot of planned activities. The people are going places all the time and doing things there. The food is fantastic. It's very comfortable and they have excellent staff. The building and the decor are fantastic. They have everything from studios to two-bedroom townhouses. Out of all the places I visited, they are the top. The price is expensive. I've been down there a couple of times and each time, I ended up talking to somebody different, and they were all well informed. The dining area looks like a restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and you order off of a menu.

Merrill Gardens at Kirkland felt like a condominium complex that happened to be dedicated to independent and assisted living. It felt more contemporary and more welcoming, similar to a hotel environment. The rooms were what I would have expected to see for a one-bedroom or a studio. The only thing that was lacking in the units was the storage because that was the most difficult thing to build into a one-bedroom apartment.

Merrill Gardens had their address changed on 2/7/2014 due to Main St. being extended across Kirkland Avenue to Main St. South to accommodate a new commercial building behind The 101 Apartments. The correct address is now 14 Main St. South.

Merrill Gardens Kirkland was recommended by A Place for Mom when I said we were looking for something that had proximity to water, and ease of walking. This certainly fit the bill. It was so close to the Kirkland waterfront and to all of the downtown shops, cafés, and restaurants. Entering the lobby was a calming experience--it was quite lovely. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable in showing the available services and some of the existing floor plans. The garden areas were pretty and would be such great places to relax. We loved the movie theatre! One drawback was the lack of washer/dryer units in the apartments. They are located for sharing on each floor. That seemed to be a pretty big omission to my mom. All in all it was a very positive morning for my folks since it was the first time they had gone through this type of experience. I felt the guide was very considerate of them with regard to this. This property is definitely on the list to revisit.

I think its a fantastic community in a wonder setting and that everyone we encountered was terrific, professional , and caring. The food is good. There are two areas for residents to be outside. One has a lovely view of Lake Washington and downtown Seattle. There is also a garden seating area. There is also a downstairs seating area. Its a very short walk to down Kirkland. More like a home.
