I love this community!! The atmosphere is where you would want your loved ones to be in!! The staff there are great at what they do. They polite to the guest, they go above and beyond for residents. I am so grateful for the almost 4 years that my dad was able to live at the Hidenwood. Dad passed away peacefully almost 2 weeks ago and the staff at the Hidenwood continued to deliver compassion and care to us as we cleaned out dad's room. Although everyone we encountered over the years has been exceptional, a special shout out goes to Joyce and to DeDee. Joyce worked closely with dad and he thought the world of her. She called him, "her little buddy" even though dad stood 6'4". DeDee is often at the reception desk and can be seen both interacting with the residents and assisting visitors alike. No one could fully compensate these ladies for the love they show and the service they provide everyone they come in contact with. I would give 6 stars, but Google only lets me give 5.

I saw this facility and I was in total amazement! I wish my grandmother could have had this home as her last resting place. She passed during Covid in 2020 in a senior living home in DC. No comparison to this one we have here in Newport News, Virginia. They have everything to make an aging human being feel at home. To see it with my own eyes was breath-taking.

I recently toured this facility and was impressed by every aspect of the experience. From the warm welcome at the front desk to the inviting atmosphere throughout the entire facility, it was truly delightful. When I first arrived to the community, I was in complete awe. The plants were very beautiful in the outside, and the concierge was super nice greeting everyone including my grandfather. My grandfather admitted that he felt special and wanted, and he was so surprised at the amount of programs that they offered to the residents. I’ve looked around several facilities, and nothing comes close to RUI simply because they prioritize residents first, giving them the lifestyle that they have earned and deserved.

My mother moved here a month ago and everyone has been so helpful and welcoming. I have had so many questions and they all get answered. I like the daily activities sheets delivered to her room. Newport News was home for my father and mother when my he retired from the military. Then when my mom passed away 7 years ago, my dad decided to go to Florida to be closer to family. Recently he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and wanted to return back to Virginia to live in an assisted living facility. After a great deal of searching and research, Hidenwood was our number one selection especially after speaking with Zsavonne. We received the best information regarding Alzheimer's, what to look for, and what to expect when moving my father to an assisted living facility. Thank you so much for all your help!

Amazing facility with the friendliest and top notch staff I've found. After touring many other facilities, this one stood out for all the right reasons. Its bright, welcoming, and, best of all, full of life and laughter. It's the only facility I toured that I heard laughter. The team at Hidenwood has been extremely helpful while moving my grandmother in and getting her adjusted. They were able to do so safely and timely. Every step of the way they were with us to answer any questions and provide us with the information needed to make the best decisions for my grandmother. Zsavonne was extremely helpful in walking me through the process of finding a good place for my Mom and Stepfather. I found the Hidenwood to be a very nice facility and with a close knit community that you might not find at some of the larger sprawling campus type facilities in the area. We have been so pleased with the quality of life our Mom is experiencing since moving into the Hidenwood in May! She was in another assisted living facility for a short time before realizing she needed to be in memory care! Her sight is very poor along with the dementia and everyone is aware of the help she needs and gives it freely and lovingly! She loves being With the other residents and caregivers! (At the previous facility she seemed lonely) We also love that she is able to get out once a week on planned outside activities! The activity director Ora is amazing and full of energy! We are so thankful for the staff taking such good care of our mom

In anticipation of relocating my out-of-state parents to our local area, I recently visited The Hidenwood. Wow! What a wonderfully inviting, welcoming and warm community! The staff was courteous and friendly; the residents appeared happy and were actively engaged. The recently updated facility itself was clean and bright. The outside grounds were gorgeous and peaceful, with walking trails and seating available. Lunch was absolutely delicious. Zsavonne was gracious with her time as she compassionately listened to my concerns. She then provided encouragement as we discussed finding the right fit for my parents' changing needs. I'm not exactly sure what the future holds for our family but I'm hopeful in the excellence The Hidenwood offers!

We have found the staff at The Hidenwood to be kind, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is more like a family instead of a cold uncaring facility. The staff, I feel truly cares about the residents living there. The rehab folks are very helpful as well. The meals offered are tasty and a good variety is offered. Family members can eat with residents at meal times for a reasonable fee. Plenty of activities are offered as well.

My father has been at The Hidenwood for almost a month. Coming from a previous asst living facility he is adjusting pretty well to the new staff and surroundings. He loves the food. They don't let the residents sit in their room, they try to keep them engaged with different activities (painting, bingo). I am pleased.

A year ago we moved Mom and Dad into the HIdenwood Assisted Living Community. We were nervous and apprehensive. They had lived their entire 90+ years in New England and had never experienced an "Apartment Living". Within a short few days they were settled and taking part in the many activities the Life Enrichment Program has to offer. They have made a remarkable adjustment to their new home. I credit this to the kindness and warmth that greeted them as they embarked on this new chapter in their lives. The fellow residents and staff have welcomed them with a culture of friendliness and compassion. As my Mom says, " We want for nothing, all of our needs are met. We are very comfortable". Mom and Dad favorite activities include the Music Programs, the morning coffee socials, trivia games and BINGO. They never want to miss, it's actually hard to find them in their apartment most days! In July, Mom and Dad celebrated their 63rd anniversary. We had a party in the Sunroom, a beautiful location. Our extended family was very impressed with the availability of and the beautiful surroundings and the professionalism of Monique and the kitchen staff . I love the open door policy of the nurse's station. On numerous occasions I have asked for help and advice. The nursing staff is always willing and eager to help me navigate the often difficult medical responsibilities. Thanks for your patience ladies! I visited many assisted living communities before moving my folks into the Hidenwood. From the original visit we have been impressed with and appreciative of all the many delightful people with whom we share this community. Finally, it is important to be seen and acknowledged as an individual. I love that Mom and Dad are known and called by name, it means a lot to them and me!

With my mother's passing a month ago, my sister and I were left with a very big and stressful responsibility...find a way to keep our Dad happy and focused on the future. Living in Tennessee for the last 13 years, my Dad was very clear that he wanted to move to Hampton/Newport News to reconnect with his many brothers and sisters who live in the area. My sister lives in Southern California with her family and I have a job that keeps me very busy in New York. It was essential that we find a place where our Dad could not only be well looked after, but thrive in his 80's. I scheduled visits with 8 Assisted Living Facilities in the area over a 2-day period. We came across so many nice people along our tours and folks who treated us warmly. We were lucky that in the end we had some strong choices. Hampton/Newport News really is blessed with a number of well-run facilities that provide a ton of comfort and activities for its residents at cost-effective rates. In the end, however, the decision was an easy one. My Dad and I both instantly fell in love with The Hidenwood. It was one of the last stops along our journey, so we had plenty of options to which to compare it. Why Hidenwood? As soon as you walk into the facility, you feel welcomed. Having been in lots of Assisted Living Facilities in the past couple of years, it was nice to see a place that was buzzing with activity, constantly. Lots of places where residents were sitting and talking, or playing games. They had a ton of sun-lit rooms where they hold Bingo, church services, or other events. The residents we came across during the tour seemed genuinely comfortable, active and "at home". As somebody who works long hours on Wall Street, I place a ton of value on people and places who are well-run and well-organized. From the very start of our experience at The Hidenwood, to the moment we walked out the doors, we saw a place that was efficiently run, impeccably clean, and super inviting. We were met by the Executive Director, Qudsia Chaudhary and the Community Relations Director, Zsavonne Perryman. Both spent a long time with my Dad, me and one of my Dad's brothers. During the tour, they were very patient with my Dad, who walks very slowly with a walker. They were charming and genuine and compassionate. During the sit-down discussions before and after the tour, they gave direct and thorough answers to direct questions. They explained all of the costs very clearly, writing things down so that we could take the information with us to deliberate later. By the way Qudsia and Zsavonne interacted with each other and with their staff, I knew the place was well-run and filled with folks who enjoyed both living and working there. I'm excited for my Dad and his upcoming move!

There are some hard decisions a person has to make in life: where you're gonna live, what you're gonna drive, where you're gonna work. All of these pale in comparison to identifying who will help provide care for a parent who needs assistance. Having toured this facility and checked it out thoroughly, I can't identify a better environment for an aging loved one. The care and consideration of this establishment is bar none one of the best I have ever encountered, and this comes from a volunteer for hospice who has visited many similar places. From outside to inside, the attention to detail in providing thoughtful and meaningful care for The Hidenwood's residents shows in every facet of their operation. The facility is bright and cheery and continues to be improved through a series of upcoming renovations. There's a spacious sun room, well-appointed dining room, well-stocked library (lovingly maintained by one of the residents), and an on-site movie theater that evoked memories of ones I had seen in celebrity homes on MTV's Cribs. The dining room I spoke of features cuisine created by their new, talented chef who put together an array of three meal options that looked like the ones a chef prepares when expecting a food critic from the New York Times - it was impressive. The tour I was taken on was guided by their head of sales and marketing, and she took pride in having a relationship with many of the residents, and they interacted with her like she was close family. She introduced me to many residents, and each was happy to speak with me and share their experiences. I was surprised when I learned that earlier in the day, the residents had held a council meeting where they discuss their ideas and suggestions and share them with the staff. It sounds like a great mechanism for residents and staff to ensure the environment evolves and provides a positive, inviting, and pleasant community for everyone. The thing I admit I appreciated the most was at the beginning when the director talked with me candidly about the costs and the various levels of service. It was helpful to know this information while on tour - it helped me understand how those fees translate into facilities, food, service, transportation, nursing, and activities. Included in the costs are around-the-clock nursing care, facility-sponsored offsite tours and visits, multiple spaces for resident-sponsored activities, pharmacy assistance, and well-landscaped outdoor areas. I'm so glad I took time to explore this facility. The experience and offerings here make a family's incredibly difficult decision so much easier to make.

My dad moved in a little over 3 months ago. It has been a great experience. He will turn 95 in August and this has been an unbelievable positive experience for him. He loves the staff, has made many friends and he has much more social interaction than he did living at home. He still hasn't taken advantage of all the activities offered, but he has enjoyed the ones he has attended. I visit him a couple times a day and I love the place. I won't hesitate a second to move in ther when my time comes.

I really like this The Hidenwwod. I have told several people, we visited 4 or 5 places and The Hidenwood was the last one. When we walked in the door we knew we were in the right place. It felt like home. What I love most about The Hidenwood is the spirit of the employees. They will do anything for you. You can tell that they really love what they do!
