My mom has lived at Greatwood at Sugar Land for over 6 1/2 years. There have been many changes during that time and certainly there have been ups and downs. My mom recently needed extra care when she was being discharged from the hospital to return to her home at Greatwood. I asked to meet with the new Executive Director, Ventura Gutierrez, who has been with the company for quite a while, but was brand new to the Greatwood Community Ventura met with us with very short notice and helped to guide us as to what next steps needed to be taken to accommodate her return to the community and to properly care for my mom and for her safety. He took swift actions in finding resources for us and accommodating a move from the second floor down to the first floor. Ventura showed great compassion and concern for my and my mothers needs. The entire staff rallied around us, too, as they had come to know my mom and wanted to do everything they could to help her acclimate back to her home. My mom has always said over the years that she’s very happy at Greatwood, and as recently as today, she expressed those same feelings.

This facility has been on steady decline since my mom had been there. In the past 2 years, they have gone through multiple staff changes, losing great people. My mom moved to the assisted living side in January, paying a huge increase. But we are paying for a service we don't get. It's unfortunate that this facility doesn't see the importance in having appropriate staffing to meet the needs of their residents. It takes longer than an hour for assistance and hiring her button multiple times. The caregivers are extremely nice not when you have 2 working with all the residents, it's not enough. They should provide adequate response times. I'm so tired the inadequacies to the point of filing state complaints. It's very sad to the huge decline. The was a great place.

Carrie Williams, Health and Wellness Director at this community is compassionate, caring and will make sure your loved receives the best care possible. We have the opportunity to provide the gift of hospice to one of the residents and she is great to work and collaborate with. Keep up the great job and great customer service. Thank you for all that you do! Raquel Vela Loving Hope Hospice

Overall, the facility is great they have amazing staff members they are very professional and welcoming every time I come and see mom. The only issue I have is the Executive Director. She seems very sweet I just don’t understand how she doesn’t make herself available to mom or the other residents. She is never in her office and when you do get a chance to see her she is walking around the building on the phone.

Thank you so much to Rose, the activities director for making my grandbabies so happy today. We went by to visit dad for Easter and even though the Easter Bunny wasn’t officially supposed to be there until 1:00 PM she put on that bunny suit for the kids! My grandson was so excited because he said this bunny talked. She even gave him a bag of candy!

I don’t get to come visit my aunt often but I want to thank April. She is really doing an amazing job. You can see the changes for better and my aunt is happier. You can see the care she has for her employees and her patients. She is very hands on, helps everywhere, and is the life of the party. Thank you getting manager who cares so much and it shows.

You have two of four elevators that are not working. [name removed] needs to get them workable ASAP. Those residents are paying for four elevators. Not good. Very disappointed out loved one is living w/this situation. Why isn't [name removed] stay on top of this?

My husband and I have lived at Greatwood for over three months. We live in Independent Living. We moved here after he suffered a bad fall. The surroundings are lovely, the food is consistently good and the staff members are excellent. Every staff member seems to know every resident on a first name basis. There is a great balance between an active and relaxing atmosphere. We moved here from a Del Webb Community that we loved. I know we will be as happy here as we were there, without having to keep up with house, yard and unexpected expenses. Here everything is included from wine tastings to outings, maid service, meals transportation and more. As with all things in life, what one gets out of life, is based on what one contributes.

I would personally like to thank Rose and all the other staff member at Greatwood for showing the Needville Little League World Series game today in their Big Room. This is a very special moment for my mother Marcella Hackstedt. Her great grandson is playing and her grandson in law is the coach! Sometime it is the little things that you that make all the difference. Greatwood has done this for my mom. She has been there for a little over a year. When she first moved in, she felt welcomed and encouraged to participate and fell in love with the place. Within the first month she had to have major colon cancer surgery at 93. She recovered only because of her desire to go back to the care and attention she got at Greatwood. We have your staff to thank for her being alive today! Little special thing like you are doing today really do make a difference. Thanks again to Rose and all the other staff members at Greatwood! You are truly GREAT! CE Hackstedt

We are having to move Mom out of Greatwood of SugarLand at the end of the month, after beening there for 5 years. She is requiring more assistance than what Assisted Living offers, but we have loved some of the staff as if they were our own family. Rose and Santanna has done an excellent job. As anywhere else, some caregivers are great and others not so much, but overall we knew Mom was taken care of. Thank you Greatwood.

My MIL just moved in about a month ago. so far, it's been good. But, like many past posts, the food is hit or miss. If you have a special diet, they will not accommodate it if you're on the independent living side. Not sure how it works on the assisted living side, but I imagine those folks get the same food. Something odd happened last week when she needed a ride to the doctor's office. they asked her if she could climb stairs, and she said yes. when she tried to get on the van, she tripped on the stairs and hurt her shin. They told her they couldn't take her to the dr if she couldn't climb the steps! They finally found a wheelchair and put her in the van via the lift, but they said they can only use the lift with a wheelchair...not a wheelchair/walker. That's not right to me. Mostly everyone has been very nice and she likes having her own place.

Today my mother & 4 family members ate lunch in the private dining hall. Jason was our server. He was very attentive. The mushroom/spinach lasagna was outstanding. The tiramisu for dessert finished the meal off. Great job, Jason & kitchen staff!

My dad was a resident of Greatwood for almost two years. We moved him to Greatwood after he lost his vision and the entire staff and caregivers (especially Cindy and Tiana) were so kind and welcoming. We always felt like he was being well taken care of. He loved playing Bingo and all the entertainment that Rose (Activities Director) planned. She is the heart of GW and makes everyone feel at home. She treats everyone like family. The other residents are so friendly as well. My dad passed away this year and I miss everyone at GW....they were our extended family. If you are looking for a place for a family member, please take a tour and see for yourself.

A couple of months ago, I moved my parents into Greatwood at Sugar Land. I'm very pleased. The team there was patient with us as we gathered information and made a decision about the move. I visit my parents regularly and am always pleased with what I find. It's obvious the team at Greatwood cares for the residents. I'm grateful to have found a safe, friendly, and affordable place for my parents to live so close to home.

I was very nervous about the prospect of my grandmother going into assisted living and I did a ton of research before deciding to give it a try. I had heard from people I trusted (our family doctor, dentist, etc..) that Greatwood at Sugar Land was the best in our area and that many of their patients were residents and all had great things to say about them so I gave them a call. Lisa Hill is the first person I spoke with (sales/marketing) and she was wonderful. She spent a lot of time with me on the phone and patiently answered all of my questions. It was at least 2-3 months just talking on the phone (she is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet) she really put my mind at ease. Next, just to be sure that my grandmother was appropriate for the facility, the head nurse, Traci, came to our home and spent a good 1-2 hours visiting with us and with my grandmother. She was awesome too - very down to earth and right away, we felt comfortable with her. After she determined that my grandma would be a good fit, we brought her to the property for a tour. The property is exceptionally clean, orderly and just has a good vibe - everyone we met was very pleasant. We met the Director, Kim, and she was very nice and super helpful as well and she answered all of our remaining questions - after meeting with her I knew that this was the place for my grandmother. After meeting the awesome team there, we decided to move forward and we moved my grandma in a couple of weeks later. We weren't sure what to expect as far as how much care would be provided - I worried it wouldn't be enough for her but boy was I wrong! We installed cameras in my grandmothers room (which they encouraged surprisingly) and night after night I watched and every single caregiver that interacted with my granny was so attentive and kind with her. To be honest, I was blown away by the staff and just how great they were with my sweet granny. Tommy, the new move in coordinator, took my granny under his wing and introduced her to other residents and made sure that she was included in all the activities right out of the gate. Long story short, my grandmother absolutely LOVES it here. She loves her bingo three times a week, church on Sundays and all the other activities that they offer. She is loving meeting new people and just raves about it every time I see her. I can't even begin to express my gratitude to these wonderful people for providing such amazing care for her and for giving her the opportunity to live a full and exciting life. She loves having some independence again and has made new friends. Hearing her tell me how happy she is, is like music to my ears. If you are on the fence or have reservations, take it from me...this community is head and shoulders above any others in the Richmond/Sugar Land, Rosenberg area and possibly the entire city. That's just how awesome I think they are!! I thought it was important to write this review because I understand better than anyone what a tough decision this is and if I can give anyone a little bit of reassurance then I want to do that - this is a quality facility with a staff that truly cares about their residents. There are so many caregivers there that my grandma tells me "are her favorites" she says that about all of them and she's right, they're all great! We just couldn't be more pleased!

My mother has resided at Greatwood for over 4 years now. She began living there in assisted living right after leaving a SNF unit after her stroke. Things were difficult under the first management and we had many issues. I will say there were three constants that were and are saving Grace's and that is Danielle the nurse, Robert at the front Concierge and Sharon, a sweet and loving care giver. The first couple years were horribly difficult as seemingly the management was uninterested in the daily operations and management switches hands several times. Then thank God, Justin entered as the new Director of Greatwood. Not that there have not been issues since Justin was brought to the team, but the issues that have existed have been resolved professionally, quickly and with compassion...which is a must as it is MY mother that resides there and I trust Justin and his staff to watch over her. I sleep better at night knowing that IF an issue should arise, I will be notified and the issue will be handled. Justin's track record is quite impressive with me, and I'm not one to be easily impressed as I too am in the customer service industry. In short, I'm grateful for the new management and the wonderful progress I have personally witnessed over the past year or so, and I welcome the future years of focused, professional, compassionate care for my mother at Greatwood Assisted living. Kristi
