As the now former Executive Director of this community I want to highly encourage you to bring your loved one here! This is not the shiny new penny like many of the newer communities but you will never find a better group of staff and residents! The community is clean and well cared for by tenured staff that truly care for the people they serve. The kitchen staff has a combined 41 years of cooking experience with Brookdale and it shows! They cook with love and care and make some dang good food! The Health and Wellness Nurse, Laura Ramirez is one of the kindest, calmest people I have ever had the honor of working with. She knows her stuff and does it with excellence and compassion! And sweet doesn’t even begin to describe our Activity Director Brytanny. You will fall in love with her bubbly personality and heart for resident fun! Your heart will be at peace with your loved one here! This building works hard to make senior living affordable for all! Call and setup a tour, have lunch, visit and you will feel the warmth of the community and I promiseYOU WILL BE SOLD on moving your loved one to Brookdale San Marcos SOUTH!

Brookdale South is such a special place. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth, not just from the cozy environment, but from the people who work there, like the greeting you receive from Ashley at the front. Misty, the Executive Director, leads with her heart and always makes time for residents and families. She’s approachable, responsive, and GENUINELY cares! Wendy in the business office is also fantastic! Super helpful, funny, patient, and always happy to answer questions or walk you through anything. She also has amazing taste in fashion 🙂 Bryttany, the Activities Director, brings so much energy and creativity. She keeps things fun and engaging for the residents and clearly loves what she does. I have to give a special shoutout to Ashley at the front desk, who is also willing to step in & work on the floor when needed. She’s ALWAYS friendly and her kindness and positive attitude are contagious. She’s the first face you see when you walk in, and she sets the tone for the whole experience. She remembers your name, which makes you feel so special. One last honorable mention- Brookdale South partners with Jo Ann Parsons, pastor & owner of New Beginnings Ministries, who provides spiritual care (and fun activities) for the residents out of her own pocket & the kindness of her heart. She has been partnering with this facility for years. She’s so dedicated to the residents as well. These are all such incredible people that anyone would be lucky to work with or get to know. I work for Aspen Hospice just down the street and love partnering with these ladies- we are actually planning a resident fashion show for August 21! Hoping to gather resources & people from the community to make it as special and fun as possible. Please reach out to Brookdale South if you’re interested in helping in anyway! Overall, Brookdale South has an amazing team that goes above and beyond for their sweet residents (& their pups!). This is somewhere that I would move my own family members into, which says a lot. Highly recommend!

I had an order to deliver to a residential who lives at this Senior Living. There was a gentleman and a woman just talking amongst themselves. Didn't even acknowledge me when I came in. The woman who he supposed to be the receptionist at the desk was too busy talking. They didn't say hello or thank you. She just took the delivery out of my hand just continued about her business. What kind of establishment is this. I feel sorry for the residents who live here.

There is a family atmosphere reflected here. They did an outstanding job during the COVID lockdown. I felt confident my mom was well taken care of during this time. My (now 98-years-old) father moved from Cincinnati 2 years ago to be closer to me. His place in Ohio was fancy with ponds, concerts and gourmet food. But the care was terrible. Before he got here I toured the San Marcos offerings and decided on Brookdale SMS and both he and I are happy with the choice. Yes, the building is plain but I learned from Cincinnati that you have to look under the hood and that’s where Brookdale shines. Everyone I’ve encountered goes out of their way to make sure Dad is happy and healthy and keeps me up to date with anything of significance happening in his life. The senior staff are professional and responsive and the aides are pleasant and competent. The low turnover rate of the staff is an indicator of a well run facility, especially in such a demanding field. I felt assured in the Covid-19 precautions and the proof of their efficacy was zero cases, staff and residents; a friend’s mother died of Covid in a nearby facility. We would make the same choice again and highly recommend Brookdale San Marcos South.

I stop in Brookdale South often as a home health provider. The residents I have worked with have nothing but positive things to say about the community. I see the management out and about interacting and they are always pleasant and willing to help in any way. I have seen numerous improvements to the communities interior over the last few years, including a new community room and apartment updates. I look forward to visiting Brookdale each week!

My Mother has lived at this facility for 2 1/2 years. She calls Brookdale South her home. She has had excellent care from the staff, specifically Sandra, Rene, Avigail and considers them and the rest of the staff part of her family. She was always very active and participated in most of the activities. Unfortunately, my mother's health has deteriorated and she is no longer able to help take care of herself so she is having to move into long term care at another facility. I was at the facility 5-7 days a week visiting my Mom and witnessed the caring attitude of everyone there towards my mom and the other residents. Ashley at the front desk is fantastic and Jessie and Kellie were always there to answer any questions I had with a smile and a hug. They truly had genuine, caring attitudes. Wendy, the activity director was also great and was a big part of Mom's everyday life. Though I did not have as much interaction with Brittany the director of wellness (the nurse) and Kathy the Director of the facility, they were always kind and offered their cell phone numbers in case the residents families needed to call. It's one of the hardest decision a family has to make when a parent is aging and not able to stay at home. I was very fortunate to find the Brookdale communities and my Mom loved living there. That is the most important thing of all.

This is where my Mother in Law currently lives, and I can say that they have assisted us EVERY STEP OF THE WAY with delicate issues such as our Mother's declining mental and physical health and ever tightening financial difficulties as she ages in place under their care. The compassionate staff at this Assisted Living community work together seamlessly as a team to provide the utmost level of care for an affordable price right on the outskirts of an otherwise very expensive area to age. We could not be happier with our experience from everyone ranging from the direct care staff members to nursing, to front desk reception, all the way up to the Director of the Facility. They are always available to answer questions, notify you of any changes, and assist during difficult transitions. You're loved one will be safe, cared for and socially stimulated while under their roof. Thank you so much, Brookdale San Marcos South!!!

I can not say enough great things about Brookdale South in San Marcos! Jody Stratton and her team go above and beyond to make certain both the residents and their families feel welcomed and involved with the community. My mother-in-law was very apprehensive about making the move to assisted living but adjusted to her new life at Brookdale right away and is enjoying it so much. She is so impressed with the meals and activities not to mention the perks of housekeeping and laundry service weekly. The residents have really taken her under their wing and make sure she is involved with everything the community offers. Bravo Brookdale South!

I took a quick tour of the facility for academic purposes and overall everything seemed well kept, clean, and spacious. The facility is made up of apartments, spacious hallways with rails, and the dining room. I only saw some of the main building but there are 2 buildings. The focus is on providing a safe home that enables autonomy for the residents. The staff holds activities every day with constant reminders. They offer 3 meals a day, plus meetings on how the food is, etc. Outside of the community, volunteer experiences are offered, such as helping at food banks or making lap blankets for nursing homes. The approach of this facility is actually very holistic.

My wife and I visited Brookdale recently. When we arrived we were greeted by a very pleasant/professional person behind the greeters desk whose name was Ashley. She asked us who we would like to see and we stated we were there to see the executive director. She paged the director and invited us to wait in the common area. The executive director soon arrived and she showed us a vacant one bedroom apartment that looked very roomy. She went on to show us the dining room and hallways. We then ventured over to another part of the building where to tour continued. Our overall impression of Brookdale included the following: An extremely clean complex, a friendly/caring staff and residents who smiled and interacted with visitors as well as staff.

I recently toured this community and was very impressed. I am a Social Worker and it had been a while since I was out here last and they have made some great changes. They are able to care for a variety of care levels which is nice for families not wanting to move a loved one multiple times.

We have been looking at communities for Dad and felt we really needed to re- visit and spend time with staff to get the overall feel for the atmosphere before committing. Just over a month we have noticed many changes within our time spent here. The community has currently underwent a newly renovation that makes us feel welcomed and at home when we visit. The staff and med techs really do take the time needed to take care of the residents both emotionally and physically. Jody Stratton is the communities Executive Director, I can truly say I would feel at ease knowing someone like her is leading this community. On every occasion while visiting I have noticed the EXTRA time she takes to lend her help, complement or hold a conversation with the residents. Thank you so much for this Jody!
