Reviews Whitley Place
September 2024
This spring I had to find and relocate my father from Indiana to a memory care facility in Texas in a very short amount of time. I visited many facilities in the Keller area, including Whitley Place. When I visited Whitley Place, I received the attention, understanding, and the information I needed to make a good decision for my father. From my very first visit (and every subsequent visit), I have been impressed with how they prioritize people over profit. Rebecca, the Facility Director, was so caring, understanding, and supportive of what I was going through, and her focus was on supporting me through a difficult decision rather than just concern about getting a new resident. Everyone I come in contact with at Whitley Place is extremely friendly and knows who I am and my father, and they are always helpful and caring regarding both of us. Putting the care of your parent in someone else's hands is an extremely difficult choice, and you want the people tending to your loved one to be people who view it not just as a job, but as a vocation. People whose hearts are in it. People that possess the patience, understanding, and compassion it takes to work with elders in a memory care unit. One such person is Lola, the Memory Care Unit Director, who I just fell in love with from the very first day that I met her. She has a genuine gift, a calling, and she is just where she belongs caring and supporting our senior community. Lola had been such a blessing as we have watched my dad settle in and become more aware and social in his new setting. He always tells me she takes good care of him and he lights up whenever he sees her. She has not only been there for my father, but me as well, during this challenging journey getting him settled and flourishing. She encourages an uplifting environment and activities that keep the residents active and engaged. During the tough times with my dad, she was in constant contact and sent me pictures of him showing promising behaviors and engaging in activities with others. She and her staff work as one unit with a common goal giving care and support, as well as, providing dignity and choice to people who often don't receive those any more. They are just the most wonderful group of people that I have come across in a long time. They make the unit feel like a home and not a care facility, and you see this in the way the residents respond to the staff. You don't find people like this everywhere. I feel like I am visiting family or a friend when I check in on my dad from the front desk receptionist to the kitchen help, the maintenance, the care givers, med techs, the activities' director, memory care director and administrative staff. They all make you very aware that they care about you and your family member and they are there to help you any time along this difficult journey. They make it a very pleasant, cheery place to be and are constantly looking for ways to bring joy to their residents. It is apparent that they treat this place and everyone there as if they were their own family and that shows. I can't express how happy I am to finally have my dad located back close to me and in a place where I feel he is safe, cared for and loved when I can't be there to do it myself.

Love this community! My mother is well taken care of. Lola, the director, and her team take the best care of my Mom in the Memory Care side. They are sweet and attentive. It makes me feel at ease to know she is looked after, so well!

Where do I even begin? My wife's experience with this assisted living facility was an absolute nightmare since the hiring of [name removed], the Magnolia Trails director. The upper management at this place operates with all but grace and empathy. They seem to have a twisted vendetta against certain staff members, targeting individuals with malice and creating an environment of fear and hostility. The way they treat some of their employees is disgraceful. Instead of fostering a supportive workplace culture, they thrive on belittling and demeaning certain staff members while showing favoritism to others. It's like they take pleasure in making some of their employees' lives miserable. I witnessed firsthand how my wife, Rachel (Former Lead Med-Tech), was singled out and subjected to unfair treatment, all at the hands of vindictive higher-ups who seem to get a kick out of power trips. She was let go today for being "unprofessional" to upper management, in which she had gone to her direct supervisor several times prior due to [name removed] being rude and unprofessional towards her. She asked for specific details, and all they could muster up on why they were terminating her was she was unprofessional "numerous" times yet couldn't tell her one specific instance. You know it was a hitjob by [name removed] when she went around asking other staff members to write statements on her. They crazy part, she was the 2nd team member targeted and terminated this week! Another member put in her two-weeks' notice today once she heard Rachel was let go. It's sad because they have also been short on staff members! The morale among the staff is understandably abysmal, which directly impacts the quality of care provided to the residents. The residents, who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, are unfortunately caught in the crossfire of this toxic environment. In summary, I would strongly advise anyone considering this assisted living facility to look elsewhere. The rampant mistreatment of staff by upper management creates a toxic environment that negatively impacts everyone involved. Save yourself the headache and heartache and find a facility where both residents and staff are treated with the respect and compassion they deserve.

Wanted to set up a tour of your facility in Keller, Texas but could not make contact with facility. Too bad, it should not be so difficult to make contact with someone that depends on these individuals for their livelyhood. Ronnie Young

A nice place. Erica and Wanda are great. Dad is happy here. Housekeeping needs some improvement… There are a lot of staff changes. They have a lot of activities to stay active and exercise class. They have rehab if needed. The foods ok. As long as Dad is happy I am happy.

Whitley Place has been the perfect place for my mom. Every staff member that has worked with her has been kind and compassionate, knowledgable and caring. The director, Karolyn, and the staff went the extra mile to make my mom feel comfortable when she moved there, making sure she got to every event and sitting her at a table with others who quickly became very good friends. As a bonus, the food is excellent and there are a variety of activities Mom and the others enjoy. But of course, the most important thing is relationships, and the people who work at Whitley are top notch.

My mother was made a resident of Whitley Place 2 years ago. My wife and I recently move to Florida, we had expected to bring my mother with us. After interviewing and walking through numerous assisted living properties in Florida, we realized the comparable differences to what we were used to at Whitley Place. In short, Whitley Place has competent and caring staff. The property itself is kept very clean and it is very well managed. Food quality is above average. Assisted Living rooms have there own climate controls (this is big because most, at least in Florida, do not). Karolyn Sorenson is a well seasoned Director who is as compassionate and thoughtful as she is trained in the administrative factors of the facility. Whitley Place also has a good entertainment program for all residents in the Assisted Living section. Overall and comparably, Whitley Place is an excellent example of how Assisted Living is supposed to work, and a great place to keep your loved ones.

This community was clean and nice when we visited. This community was not quite what we were looking for as we felt our loved one was not ready for assisted living. The people we met were nice and I would recommend taking a look at this community.
