I'm going to give the rehabilitation team a . My boyfriend is a patient there and I visited him yesterday. I observed him in the physical therapy session and was extremely impressed with the staff. I'm definitely going to be giving this place some more business.

My aunt moved from a terrible, dark, loud, scary skilled nursing facility in Chicago to Brookdale Westlake skilled nursing in Austin. Brookdale was wonderful. The staff is kind, professional and respectful. They suggested that she push the call button if she needed anything at all, and they really meant it. Whenever I visited, I stopped by the nurses' station and they knew exactly how her day was going and what she had been up to. My aunt tells me that the food was good, too! I would definitely recommend it for skilled nursing.

My Daddy was sent here for rehab. He was so scared to go because he thought he'd be treated badly. With faith we took the leap. Everyone was so kind to him! I'd like to thank everyone that showed my Dad love, compassion and understanding. Now to the weekend male nurse that tried to claim my Daddy wasn't putting in any effort… SHAME ON YOU FOR PUTTING THAT DOUBT IN MY MIND! If you would have done your research you would have seen he was suffering from one of the most painful types of cancer one could have! So YES he NEEDED the medication that he was being given!! You really should think and research before you start making accusations!! You tried and made it seem like my Daddy was addicted to the meds! You said he didn't get up from bed! Well he COULDNT!! He wasn't mobile and the cancer was tearing down his spine! Shame on you! I pray you learn to do better! My Daddy has since passed… he is no longer in pain and reunited with my brothers

At first i thought there was a big problem here because i had to fight to get my meds right. They did fix the problem after i told them i was calling my uncle to pick me up. Sad that it took a threat to leave to fix it. The staff on the 4th floor treat me good and are helpful for the most part. I can feel their love(meaning they are kind and caring) I have not seen staff treat anyone poorly in any form at all. This is my first time i let my doctor put me in a rehabilitation center. So i don't know the do's & don'ts of rehabilitation center's. Complaints: 1)my tv has no sound but my roommate watches the same stuff i do so it's not that big a deal. 2) i turned in some clothes to be washed and im missing 1 pair of pj's . i bought 4 pair of pj's before my reconstructive surgery last week. I wanted to make sure i had clothes to wear while in here. So losing them is irritating but I still have 3 more pair . i really liked them but I'm not going to be petty over it. Sometimes that night it's difficult to get help because the staff might be limited and they have a ton of patients to work on so it takes a minute to get help from them. But like I said again I'm walking I'm not in a wheelchair all the time there are people that need the staff more than I do. And they don't get the staff or the attention that they need because they are short-staffed. So From perspective how I am treated on a scale from 1 to 10 10 being the greatest I would say a six. But the same is not for everyone. There are some patients that need more attention than me and they are not getting it I think it's because they are short-staffed here maybe people need to see if they're hiring I'm sure they are. If I had to get them an overall rating not being to any other facility I would have to say five out of 10

My mother-in-law stayed here for both Skilled Nursing and briefly for Assisted Living. As far as skilled nursing is concerned, this facility is far better than my past experience with SNFs. You will probably not be able to find a convenient parking spot near the entrance, though. Also a warning to anyone with a loved one in this type of setting: do not leave their hearing aides with them to use. I knew better than to leave anything of value with her, but she needed her hearing aids to hear so I left them--huge mistake. The hearing aids were lost and the facility would not replace them. This, unfortunately, left an overall negative impression with me for this facility.

My father (Alfred Omelchuck) was changed rooms twice. The first time was to make room for residents of the same sex, which I agreed to (why that does that matter anymore?), even though it was on a higher floor. The second time I requested for the change because he was roomed with someone with a urinary issue and his room smelled to the high heavens of urine. I did not mind that he had a roommate, but the man who needed a private room, was the man with the urinary issue. I visited him on Monday, and he was in the same clothing on Thursday as he was on Monday. Looked like neglect to me. He had food on his bedside table from the day before. On the day of discharge there was a pair of soiled underwear on the floor which he said he removed himself. With a broken back. From what I and my other family members could see, he languished, barring his 20 minutes of PT 5 days/week and meals. When I spoke with staff, they were kind, but clearly overwhelmed with the high numbers of patients and turnover. Y'all need to slow it down and stop your numbers game. Your patients are real people and so are your staff. But wait, there's more! When I went to pick him up on the day of discharge, there was no "legal" parking at the circle drive, so I parked just one meter outside of the legal area. I put a large note on my windshield stating I was picking up my dad for discharge and would be gone soon. I received a rude sticker from maintenance that blocked my side mirror (which is a safety issue for driving). I spent $20 on an adhesive removal spray to take it off. One of the reasons there was no parking is because of the dead patient that my brother and I had to almost share the one elevator with (yes, body bag and all) and whose van was taking up most of the parking space. It was unsettling on many levels. My father received the basest care possible from your facility. As an RN in Austin, I can assure you I will not recommend Brookdale Westlake, Austin Texas to my associates - who are many. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any points regarding my complaints. Sincerely, Molly Omelchuck

I wanted to provide an update since my initial review below. Once corporate management became aware of the issue, they immediately involved the Activities Coordinator, Betty Bose. Betty has been the angel I needed to assist me with phone conversations with my mother. She makes a call to me everyday from my mom’s room and helps her with the phone. She is an amazing, caring person who only wants the best for the residents. The facility is indeed lucky to have Betty, as are the residents. Brookdale is a lovely facility and they have made incredible progress with my mom. She arrived here having been completely bedridden for 8 months under home care. Now my mom sits in a wheelchair, and feeds herself in the dining room. She attends little concerts by local musicians that are offered at least once a week - she enjoys getting out of her room and interacting with others. It has been fantastic to see the progress in mom. Initial review: “My mother has been a resident here exactly 7 days. In that time period, despite the fact that I've called at least 14 times to speak with her, I've gotten to talk to her only once. She has dementia and needs assistance with the phone. I call her daily because I live 1800 miles away, and she needs to hear my voice everyday so she doesn't forget me. Whenever I call, the nurse's station either doesn't answer or takes my number and says they will have someone call me back, but it never happens. One time the nurse's station transferred my call to her room. An aide picked it up, put the receiver into my mother's hand, and left the room. My mother almost immediately dropped the receiver, and for five minutes I was talking, hoping she would hear me. No one came back in the room during that time to help her.”

Recently my friend had a stay in the rehabilitation part of Brookdale. He was able to get vegan meals prepared on site by expert chefs. He can be a difficult patient for Health Care professionals, PT, OT to deal with and yet they did a great job with him! I can't thank them enough. Now for the BAD NEWS. He is not senile, in fact highly functional in thinking and communicating his needs. Staff tried to convince him that he did order pork! Tried to GASLIGHT him! My VEGAN friend. Nurse improperly wrapped his legs and caused an open sore. He insisted that only trained, lymph edema people can wrap his legs. He was labeled as PIA. Several times nurse attempted to give insulin shot and he refused. He is not diabetic. Nurse tried giving him another guys meds, he said no to that as well. Sometimes meds were encouraged to, "help you relax." What medication? A muscle relaxer. He would not submit to CHEMICAL straight jacket the whole time he was there. And he kept speaking out. So he was discharged 15 days early and labeled "difficult". He is grateful for what was actually therapeutic and helpful. Now he is living independently because he spoke up.

This place has its ups and downs. Wonderful Physical Therapy Staff. Somewhat friendly nurses. Mother is in her early 60s and is only staying for a month long Please check on your love ones who are staying here as they sometimes are forgotten about such as no medication given. Delayed response to nurse call (hours or longer delay) Other than that seems like a okay place

My parents are 92 and have lived in the independent section of Brookdale Westlake Hills for 2 1-2 years. We have been beyond pleased with the care they have been given! The people that work at Brookdale are caring and want to do anything to make sure the residents are comfortable and happy. It is a wonderful place. My parents need extra care to be able to remain in the independent section of Brookdale. The personal living services that provide caregivers for residents is outstanding. The woman that work in this area try their very best to help with caregivers that are well trained and are compatible with the residents. Weve been blessed with amazing caregivers. My siblings and I are extremely thankful that our parents are living at Brookdale. They have a beautiful apartment, they are surrounded by caring people and the people that live at the Brookdale are very loving and interesting . We are very, very pleased.

I was extremely skeptical about my mother going into a skilled nursing facility as I am her primary caregiver and she lives at home with me. I was uncertain if they were able to provide the level of care that she needs. She was extremely sick when she entered. The physical, occupational and speech therapist have done an outstanding job with her. She has done A180. Im very pleased with staff and administration at Brook dale. The care and attention that is being provided for her is stellar.

My mom has been in assisted living at BWH for about 4 months now, and Ive been happy with the facility and care shes received. Of course, it takes getting used to after living in your own home, being relatively independent and making your own decisions, and we both had to learn the ropes. The staff members are caring and attentive, the food is good, and the activities are non-stop! This has been great for mom, because it gets her mind off her chronic pain. The activities director tries to engage everyone, no matter their limitations. I REALLY love having all of moms health care coordinated so well; doctor visits, meds, etc. and they keep tabs on any changes in her energy, appetite, appearance, etc. The staff members keep me posted on anything I need to know about. Probably the best endorsement I can give BWH is that I trust them to care for mom, even though I live over 300 miles away (she wanted to stay in Austin).

I recently had an injury, and after a stay in the hospital for surgery I transferred to the Brookdale Westlake Hills skilled nursing floor for some recuperation and physical therapy. I came in on a weekend and must have bypassed some new resident orientation-information, so things seemed to get off to a rocky start--meals delivered to the room were late, etc. I was not sure that the staff knew I was there. However, on Monday morning, things really picked up, and I started receiving the help I needed. I met multiple physical and occupational therapists, aides, a nurse practitioner, nurses, the director, and other personnel. The care and therapy I was given were quite good. I started taking my meals in the dining room, and--pleasant surprise--the food was very good! I also met several of the other residents with interesting histories. The personnel attending to residents were generally very helpful, and they made a real effort to provide activities and entertainment to those who were interested. When I needed some medical attention, the staff followed through and made sure I received it. Is Brookdale Westlake Hills perfect? Of course not--some things did not happen when I thought they should, the air conditioning in my room was not balanced and made enough air flow noise to wake me when it came on, etc. But overall, my experience for the week that I was there was quite good and I would not hesitate to go there again in the future should I need it.
