Four stars for most of the nursing staff in skilled nursing (and five for our favorite staff). They are caring and kind to the patients. They aren't always prompt but they are also very, very busy so it's important to keep that in mind. Response times are reasonable when the nurse is called. The food menu is varied and even though I haven't tried it, it looks pretty tasty. The administrative staff is responsive and helpful. Sheets are changed often and the bed is made every day which makes the room look nicer. There's room for improvement on the cleanliness of the floor in the dining room but the staff are very hard working and I'd imagine that cleaning staff do the best they can also. These types of facilities are hard places to be in, to have a family member in and work at. Nowhere is perfect but they strive to take good care of the patients and show them respect. My mom has received good care by nursing staff, PT, and OT. I'd recommend this facility.

All the people who work here are caring, loving people. The activities are fun and they offer a lot of different options. The food is great! It’s a for-profit model and that has its caveats. After two years of experience with this Brookdale, everything above is still true: great people that work there and the community of residents is fantastic. It’s corporate that is disconnected, greedy and not necessarily making choices that are resident focused. They raised the rent 5% the first year and 10% the second. That’s a big jump and the employees did not get a 10% increase in their salaries. Brookdale Corporate fired a much beloved executive director instead of taking a less drastic measures. When corporate makes decisions based on $ the residents feel the negative impact. The wonderful activity directors, front desk personnel , dining servers and transportation drivers really make this location special.

I love this community! I recently toured and was blown away by how beautiful this community is. The residents were all smiling after coming back from an outing. There’s not a lot of independent living that offers a pool and a hot tub so that’s pretty special. Also, I’ve never been to another senior living community that has an entire wall dedicated to their staff that have been there over 15 years. Touring with Brittani and Karen was fun and informative. I highly recommend scheduling a tour around lunchtime so you can eat their delicious food.

So far it’s my 2nd day here and i came for rehab after getting out of the hospital. I arrived on Saturday and the people here and nurses had been very nice to me and very helpful the only downside was the call button took a while for nurses to come and see whatever i needed them for but it hasn’t been that bad lately and the food werent that bad they just have lists of food and you get to choose what you want as the dietician put you on whatever type of foods you can eat but they tastes better than hospital food. I have no complaints about it so far so i will update if anything changes. UPDATE: It has been almost two weeks and OMG, I LOVE THIS PLACE!! The nurses and all the staffs here are super nice, they helped me with alot of things, both OT and PT staffs were awesome and they pushed me everyday with helping me get stronger slow and would not give up motivating me everyday with helping, the foods was really good, the medication staff was very attentive and on time and also fast when i asked for my pain medicine, whenever i needed something, and press the call light bell, like changing my brief, medicine, staff’s aid with transitions and need hoyer lift to get me out of bed to my wheelchair, it was always answered less than 5-10 mins at some time but mostly very sudden, I really wish I could stay here long time but they are very highly costly and does not accept my insurance, which make me unfortunately having to send me home without care or help and that makes me severely uncomfortable about that as this place makes me feel like home and safe, knowing i am in good hands. I will be hating to leave this place. Everyone do take great care of you here and care and treat everyone like family. I would love to give them a 5 stars but one is off because they can’t keep me here and sent me home without anyone to care for me which now it gonna make me end up back at hospital soon enough *sighs*

My mom was here for a rehab stay and her time here was very good. The 3rd floor care staff was attentive and kind and took good care of her. The administration/social worker was very helpful, as I was very unfamiliar with the processes. I would recommend Brookdale Westlake for anyone needing rehab care for their loved ones.

I was at Brookdale Westlake for a short stay physical therapy rehab. Let’s just say I had other issues. They helped me with them all. The staff was kind, caring and even humorous when I needed it. They helped me with any confusing issues. All services were just what I needed. Even when I thought I knew better Don’t hesitate to go yourself or place a family member at Brookdale Westlake. They do it all, from short term to long term needs. Compassion should be in their branded name. Staff will remember me from another last name- Catsimanes. Although I’m happy to be home, I will miss the staff. Thank you so much.

My aunt moved from a terrible, dark, loud, scary skilled nursing facility in Chicago to Brookdale Westlake skilled nursing in Austin. Brookdale was wonderful. The staff is kind, professional and respectful. They suggested that she push the call button if she needed anything at all, and they really meant it. Whenever I visited, I stopped by the nurses' station and they knew exactly how her day was going and what she had been up to. My aunt tells me that the food was good, too! I would definitely recommend it for skilled nursing.

My Daddy was sent here for rehab. He was so scared to go because he thought he’d be treated badly. With faith we took the leap. Everyone was so kind to him! I’d like to thank everyone that showed my Dad love, compassion and understanding. Now to the weekend male nurse that tried to claim my Daddy wasn’t putting in any effort.. SHAME ON YOU FOR PUTTING THAT DOUBT IN MY MIND! If you would have done your research you would have seen he was suffering from one of the most painful types of cancer one could have! So YES he NEEDED the medication that he was being given!! You really should think and research before you start making accusations!! You tried and made it seem like my Daddy was addicted to the meds! You said he didn’t get up from bed! Well he COULDNT!! He wasn’t mobile and the cancer was tearing down his spine! Shame on you! I pray you learn to do better! My Daddy has since passed.. he is no longer in pain and reunited with my brothers ™

At first i thought there was a big problem here because i had to fight to get my meds right. They did fix the problem after i told them i was calling my uncle to pick me up. Sad that it took a threat to leave to fix it. The staff on the 4th floor treat me good and are helpful for the most part. I can feel their love(meaning they are kind and caring) I have not seen staff treat anyone poorly in any form at all. This is my first time i let my doctor put me in a rehabilitation center. So i don't know the do's & don'ts of rehabilitation center's. Complaints: 1)my tv has no sound but my roommate watches the same stuff i do so it's not that big a deal. 2) i turned in some clothes to be washed and im missing 1 pair of pj's . i bought 4 pair of pj's before my reconstructive surgery last week. I wanted to make sure i had clothes to wear while in here. So losing them is irritating but I still have 3 more pair . i really liked them but I'm not going to be petty over it. Sometimes that night it's difficult to get help because the staff might be limited and they have a ton of patients to work on so it takes a minute to get help from them. But like I said again I'm walking I'm not in a wheelchair all the time there are people that need the staff more than I do. And they don't get the staff or the attention that they need because they are short-staffed. So From perspective how I am treated on a scale from 1 to 10 10 being the greatest I would say a six. But the same is not for everyone. There are some patients that need more attention than me and they are not getting it I think it's because they are short-staffed here maybe people need to see if they're hiring I'm sure they are. If I had to get them an overall rating not being to any other facility I would have to say five out of 10

My mother-in-law stayed here for both Skilled Nursing and briefly for Assisted Living. As far as skilled nursing is concerned, this facility is far better than my past experience with SNFs. You will probably not be able to find a convenient parking spot near the entrance, though. Also a warning to anyone with a loved one in this type of setting: do not leave their hearing aides with them to use. I knew better than to leave anything of value with her, but she needed her hearing aids to hear so I left them--huge mistake. The hearing aids were lost and the facility would not replace them. This, unfortunately, left an overall negative impression with me for this facility.

My father (Alfred Omelchuck) was changed rooms twice. The first time was to make room for residents of the same sex, which I agreed to (why that does that matter anymore?), even though it was on a higher floor. The second time I requested for the change because he was roomed with someone with a urinary issue and his room smelled to the high heavens of urine. I did not mind that he had a roommate, but the man who needed a private room, was the man with the urinary issue. I visited him on Monday, and he was in the same clothing on Thursday as he was on Monday. Looked like neglect to me. He had food on his bedside table from the day before. On the day of discharge there was a pair of soiled underwear on the floor which he said he removed himself. With a broken back. From what I and my other family members could see, he languished, barring his 20 minutes of PT 5 days/week and meals. When I spoke with staff, they were kind, but clearly overwhelmed with the high numbers of patients and turnover. Y'all need to slow it down and stop your numbers game. Your patients are real people and so are your staff. But wait, there's more! When I went to pick him up on the day of discharge, there was no "legal" parking at the circle drive, so I parked just one meter outside of the legal area. I put a large note on my windshield stating I was picking up my dad for discharge and would be gone soon. I received a rude sticker from maintenance that blocked my side mirror (which is a safety issue for driving). I spent $20 on an adhesive removal spray to take it off. One of the reasons there was no parking is because of the dead patient that my brother and I had to almost share the one elevator with (yes, body bag and all) and whose van was taking up most of the parking space. It was unsettling on many levels. My father received the basest care possible from your facility. As an RN in Austin, I can assure you I will not recommend Brookdale Westlake, Austin Texas to my associates - who are many. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any points regarding my complaints. Sincerely, Molly Omelchuck

Recently my friend had a stay in the rehabilitation part of Brookdale. He was able to get vegan meals prepared on site by expert chefs. He can be a difficult patient for Health Care professionals, PT, OT to deal with and yet they did a great job with him! I can't thank them enough. Now for the BAD NEWS. He is not senile, in fact highly functional in thinking and communicating his needs. Staff tried to convince him that he did order pork! Tried to GASLIGHT him! My VEGAN friend. Nurse improperly wrapped his legs and caused an open sore. He insisted that only trained, lymph edema people can wrap his legs. He was labeled as PIA. Several times nurse attempted to give insulin shot and he refused. He is not diabetic. Nurse tried giving him another guys meds, he said no to that as well. Sometimes meds were encouraged to, "help you relax." What medication? A muscle relaxer. He would not submit to CHEMICAL straight jacket the whole time he was there. And he kept speaking out. So he was discharged 15 days early and labeled "difficult". He is grateful for what was actually therapeutic and helpful. Now he is living independently because he spoke up.

My parents are 92 and have lived in the independent section of Brookdale Westlake Hills for 2 1/2 years. We have been beyond pleased with the care they have been given! The people that work at Brookdale are caring and want to do anything to make sure the residents are comfortable and happy. It is a wonderful place. My parents need extra care to be able to remain in the independent section of Brookdale. The personal living services that provide caregivers for residents is outstanding. The woman that work in this area try their very best to help with caregivers that are well trained and are compatible with the residents. We’ve been blessed with amazing caregivers. My siblings and I are extremely thankful that our parents are living at Brookdale. I was extremely skeptical about my mother going into a skilled nursing facility as I am her primary caregiver and she lives at home with me. I was uncertain if they were able to provide the level of care that she needs. She was extremely sick when she entered. The physical, occupational and speech therapist have done an outstanding job with her. She has done A180. I'm very pleased with staff and administration at Brook dale. The care and attention that is being provided for her is stellar.

I recently had an injury, and after a stay in the hospital for surgery I transferred to the Brookdale Westlake Hills skilled nursing floor for some recuperation and physical therapy. I came in on a weekend and must have bypassed some new resident orientation/information, so things seemed to get off to a rocky start--meals delivered to the room were late, etc. I was not sure that the staff knew I was there. However, on Monday morning, things really picked up, and I started receiving the help I needed. I met multiple physical and occupational therapists, aides, a nurse practitioner, nurses, the director, and other personnel. The care and therapy I was given were quite good. I started taking my meals in the dining room, and--pleasant surprise--the food was very good! I also met several of the other residents with interesting histories. The personnel attending to residents were generally very helpful, and they made a real effort to provide activities and entertainment to those who were interested. When I needed some medical attention, the staff followed through and made sure I received it. Is Brookdale Westlake Hills perfect? Of course not--some things did not happen when I thought they should, the air conditioning in my room was not balanced and made enough air flow noise to wake me when it came on, etc. But overall, my experience for the week that I was there was quite good and I would not hesitate to go there again in the future should I need it.

I work with many of the residents as clients. This means that I have an outsiders' perspective, but I get to observe the staff when they are not "putting on the ritz" for the potential resident or for the visiting family. I have to say, that as a whole, Brookdale has staff that is caring and concerned. They residents are treated with respect and consideration. The dining room is another matter... the food is "pretty good" at best (but only ever gets as bad as "meh".) The staff their is accommodating, and as attentive as their work load would allow. There is always plenty of selection if you don't care for the two daily entre features. Think Luby's, but not quite as good.
