If you work at or have loved ones living at Viva (Commonwealth and Greenfield) Senior Living on Laboratory Rd, beware of bed bugs! A week after the infestation was reported, the management finally sent an exterminator once and did no follow up. All this happened while my mother was recovering from a serious stroke. Her repeated requests that maintenance remove an infested sofa and area rug were ignored. Caregivers quit because of allergic reactions to bed bug bites. I had to move my mother to a hotel when the infestation became so severe, her apartment was uninhabitable. She lived there while I renovated my home for her to move in. It’s astonishing to me how little was done to address a public health hazard. My mother had to discard thousands of dollars worth of her possessions, and her requests for fair compensation were ignored. The failure to adequately respond to this health hazard guarantees that more apartments and public areas in the facility are also affected. Beware!

As my move in date approaches in July of 2021, I will have been a resident for 3 years. I have loved being here since day one. I was searchinh for a comfortable retirement place where I would have little to no responsabilities and THIS is it. We are offered everything we could need or want made available. But we only do the things we enjoy. No housekeeping, or cooking unless we don't desire today's menu. In this case we have our own range top and fridge and we have been to the store to purchase special dinner fixings. Activities and health exercises are offered daily. Also, there is a library, beauty/barber shop and medical devision when needed. So what else could we need? A 5 start residence. Magnificient.

Hard as it is to have to relinquish care of a loved one, the Commonwealth SL at Oak Ridge TN has been a wonderful choice. Staff and residents are BOTH happy to be there, which is no small feat. They go out of their way to help and welcome newcomers and visitors. It is a great place to be, if you need care, and a good place to entrust your loved one when the time comes.

All the staff are so helpful and always smiling. Toni and Angelia were very welcoming and helped answer any question I had. The resident care director introduced me to all the staff and showed me the different floor plans they had. It truly is a beautiful place and will be my first choice when I can no longer care for my wife.

I visited recently and I really enjoyed the upgrades/makeover. Just walking through the door, I felt overwhelming comfort. All staff are friendly and so eager to serve. I was planning on placing my dad there but he unexpectedly passed. If the situation ever arises where I need them again, I am confident my loved one would be well taken care of.!

I watch the caregiving team at Commonwealth Senior Living at Oak Ridge faithfully meet the needs of their residents. In a seemingly endless cycle they make sure nutritional needs are met, medicines are dispensed, hygiene requirements are satisfied, fingernails are painted, time in the garden is provided, appointments to the hair salon are kept, and participation in worship is made available. The caregiving team appears to truly enjoy caring for their residents and the residents are always smiling and laughing when I visit the community.

The facility appears very clean. The lobby is attractive with a fireplace and plenty of seating. My friend's room is a comfortable size for one person. My dad lived there for 7 years and he had good care. I would recommend it.

As a resident at the horrible place i was abused, neglected and taken advantage of. I was subjected to continuous insect bites, a filthy environment, bad food and employees who disregarded my cries for help. My apartment was directly above the garbage dumpster which reeked of decaying food and animal remains. An employee took me into the area of the kitchen which the vent in my room was directly connected to. There were swarms of insects and i was told by this employee that the insects were in the vents and the walls. These gnats got through the vent into my room where I observed swarms of in my shower and sink, in my food and on my clothes on a constant basis. I showed several employees these insects and my subsequent bites but i was ignored by all including the nurses and the director. I am now suffering from post traumatic stress disorder as a. Result of employee neglect. and abuse. I have long term care insurance that paid 4000 dollars a month while other residents received the same services for 875 dollars. When I could not take the abuse any longer I escaped to another facility where the care is so superior to commonwealth and no bugs. Please avoid commonwealth at oak ridge. I have filed a report with elder abuse and neglect in Tennessee through the ombudsman. This facility need to be shut down immediately!!! note that they are liars. They do not provide even rudimentary care let alone the ""amenities"" listed below. This is a horrible nightmare of a facility.

Excellent hospitality, friendly people and cleanliness. It was a cold day with a warm fireplace, what could you ask for more. I am anticipating my move but I am a little nervous to make a big change. I enjoyed meeting Mary, the hospitality maid, and I look forward to talking to her more soon. I am praying every night and want to thank everyone at Commonwealth for their assistance.

My mother lives there. I was visiting her on the 3rd floor. There haven't been many issues there, but lately there is a rancid urine stench on the floor. It is so strong that it is almost nauseating. Something needs to be done about that smell quickly! We had guests with us and it was horribly embarrassing for anyone to have to smell that!

My mother has dementia, and I am so grateful for the care she receives at CSL. The staff is attentive, respectful, and responsive. I feel like the nursing staff and I are a team in her care. There are many activities which are often documented on the Smile portal/website. I'm able to see photos of my mother and read about fun interactions she has with the staff there or off site. It also alerts me to upcoming family activities or news concerning the facility. Our experience has been excellent.

My family moved our Dad into CSL last year and what a wonderful decision that was for him! He is very independent, but could no longer live alone at 91 and needed more support. Commonwealth at Oak Ridge has afforded him social connectivity that is so important to his mental health and well being. He loves the meals and all the staff are friendly, professional and love caring for their residents! Despite Covid-19, the team at CSL has kept the residents engaged and happy-no short order during these challenging times. As long as our Dad is happy -so are we! Keep up the good work CSL!

My mother has been a resident of Commonwealth Senior Living for almost one year. It was a scary move for her to transition from independent living to an assisted living facility, but she immediately realized how great things are at Commonwealth At Commonwealth, Mom is surrounded by friends and enjoys fun activities like crafts, dance, singing and movies. She didnt know what she was missing! Wonderful meals are prepared for her and she eats with her friends. The food is really good and our family joins her for holiday dinners there. Her room is cleaned for her and she gets the help she needs like taking her daily medication and getting dressed. Most important, I can rest knowing that Mom is surrounded by nursing staff 24-7 in case she needs medical attention, and the staff are like family with true concern and affection for my mother. When I visit Mom I can tell she is healthy and happy, making it apparent that she is well treated. That means the world to our family. I highly recommend Commonwealth Senior Living as a retirement community, assisted living, or for dementia care.

Commonwealth Senior Living (formerly Greenfield) is the BEST assisted living around if you are looking for yourself or your loved to become apart of a family in East TN! We offer a variety of care options from Independent living to Assisted living and Enhanced care. We pride ourselves with being able to care for our residents and support their families through the end of life. Our nursing, housekeeping, dining, activities, maintenance, and front office staff are team members who have a true heart to serve! Our team has had the pleasure of caring for not only several of our own family members but a former co-worker as well. To me this says a lot about a company who will allow OUR own loved ones to move into the community to ensure they receive the best care! Its an honor to serve our elders and to know that we are making a difference in their lives.

Great assisted living /retirement place. We offer enhanced care, & independent living as well ;). Our building has been around MANY years, while others are still new. Im a current employee and I have been with Greenfield for 10 years. I absolutely love my residents, they are FAMILY. We have great staff with big hearts who are selfless and we love what we do from housekeeping, to the dinning room, up nursing , down to activities, & around to maintenance , to the front desk ; ) Reason i rate 4/5 bc i believe there's always room for improvement #CaringForThoseWhoCaredForUs

Our uncle moved to Greenfield Senior Living of Oak Ridge in November 2013 under hospice care when doctors told our family that he didn't have much time to live. Our family is grateful for the level of care provided by Greenfield along with Caris! Our uncle was with us until December 2016 & I firmly believe it was because of the care he received!
