91st bday was had by Grams today, no visitors cuz of a staff member w-COVID. I dont care bout personal feelings, if you work in health care you should be MANDATED to get vaccine or get another job, PERIOD. The few staff I have met seem good, just arent enough of them, much like every other facility in the area. I will say this, Grams and Grandpa LOVE the food. I feel way better w-them there as opposed to home.

In Jan. 2013 my father passed away while both parents were living in NC. Knowing Mom would have to now live near a child, she chose to live near me. I gave her a year after my father passed to make the move, not wanting to uproot her so soon after his death. I talked to marketing at a couple of places and got floor plans for her and she choose Senior Commons at Powder Mill. She had wanted to live in independent living in a two-bedroom apartment. In August she fell and we decided it would be best for her to move more quickly and not spend a winter alone in NC. What was available for her at the time was a two-room suite in assisted living. We took it and prior to her even going into the suite, my husband and I got her furniture situated so when she walked in, it looked like home. She was so comfortable there that she never went over to independent living. In the 7+ years that she was at Senior Commons, she was treated with respect and care. She never had an unkind word to say about any of the staff. The only complaint she had when she first arrived was there was too much salt in the food, and after a town hall meeting where it was brought up by several residents, that was rectified. As my mother was nearing end of life, I feel like the staff took me under their wing to make sure that both of us were comfortable. It was a difficult time and they helped me get through it. They became family. This year has been difficult for all. I cant imagine what they have gone through, including employee turnover, COVID with the residents as well as staff, ability to care for everyone the way they would like. But through all the years and especially this one, the right decision was made for Mom to live out her life at Senior Commons. And I thank them for the care they have shown.

My parent has been living at SC Memory Care for almost 3 years. We have seen many changes and issues, but since Summer 2019, new leadership has arrived and staffing has stabilized. There is a visible commitment to engaging and stimulating residents, and more Staff training on the special needs of residents with dementia. I see that the MC staff takes pride in, and ownership of, the well-being of their residents. The Directors have been responsive to my parents unique needs, and Fox Therapy has been very effective. I am Hopeful and optimistic that these positive trends will continue. Families must recognize that any elder care situation requires their active involvement and oversight.

Feb.25, 2020 My family and I recently had to make a very difficult decision and place my wife of thirty three years in a care facility due to progressing complications with dementia. After several phone calls and internet searches we came across, Senior Commons at Powder Mill. After we toured the facility and asked several questions of staff members we chose Senior Commons. The first couple of months were very hard for my wife and family. You are making a decision to trust that you family member will be in good hands for all their needs. After being a resident at Senior Commons Memory Care for five months now, I am at peace with the care my wife is receiving. The new director of the Memory Care Unit is professional and has made positive changes to improve the quality of life style for the residents and staff members. The entire facility is well maintained and the staff members are professional and pleasant.

My Uncle was very reluctant to move. The tour process was incredible because it changed his mind. Once a resident, the staff was 100% helpful at every interaction with him and our entire family. Not a single team member left our presence without stopping and asking if there was anything else they can do for Jay or for us.

My mother-in-law, my wife and I visited Senior Commons a number of times. We also talked to Kelly Blessing, Director of Marketing, on the phone a few times. Kelly was extremely helpful and kind. Even drove to my mother-in-law's house to drop some gifts off. Kelly took us around the facility and introduced us to many residents and staff. We like the facility and unfortunately after a difficult decision she went with another facility. Anyone looking for a place to stay independently or assisted living should seriously consider Senior Commons.

Priscilla Mitchell it was a pleasure meeting you yesterday. Thanks so much for the tour and time you spent with us on 8/3. The independent living facility was very nice and seems quite comfortable. I was very impressed. I'm still not sure about where I need to be. I think any senior community living will be best spent at this Powder Mill location though.

Senior Commons has been a great facility for my Mother. Staff is very helpful.

My father lived for two years in Rosewood Court and received tremendous care and support while he struggled through Alzheimers. The facility offers a nice and comfortable living environment and he wandered around the floor as though he was at home, but he was secure. He always enjoyed the daily activities and looked forward to the snacks! The staff was very loving and supportive with him up to his final days when we brought hospice care in for him. This allowed us to care for him in a comfortable setting instead of moving him to a different facility which offered all involved comfort. I would recommend Senior Commons to anyone who has a family member with these needs.
