Legend of Allentown – Reviews
July 2024
I have a family member who lives here and I can honestly say that the care she receives is wonderful. My grandmother is always well kept, her laundry is always done, her room is always spotless, and always given her medication in a timely manner. Staff is very friendly and caring. The health care directors are kind and compassionate and truly cares about the residents needs. The floor staff are helpful and accommodating. The resident director, Kim is enabling real change that benefits both residents and their families. She has brought events the residents love such as a beach pool party and an ice cream party. I can say with pleasure that I am confident that my family member is in good hands.

My dad and I enrolled my mom in the memory care unit at the Legend facility in May of 2024. Before she moved in, we took the tour and asked lots of questions to be sure it would be a good fit for all parties. We were given assurances that my mom would have a 1:1 staff for the first week to help acclimate to the new setting and have plenty of activities to keep her busy. But that never happened. In fact, no one bothered to contact us after the first week to even ask how things were going. Needless to say that was concerning, especially since we brought my mom home after a few days and nobody noticed. As far as their activities - they had Music Memories class, but no staff were present. They had an mp3 device playing music while 2 residents sat beside it fast asleep. Then later we observed their Stretching/Exercise class and once again, no staff present. There was a DVD player and TV showing some lady doing exercises while the small group of residents sat in front of it. Another day we visited and wanted to join in an arts activity, but it was cancelled. Just keep in mind, there are only activities between 9am-4pm each day so residents who wake early or stay up late are out of luck. Regarding the staffing, this wasn't just some random occurrence - each day we visited, there was hardly any staff to be seen on the unit. And when we did notice them, they were cleaning the bathroom or giving medication. The sad reality is that we regularly saw the residents wandering around aimlessly or sleeping in a chair/sofa with no staff around. We also encountered a lack of transparency from management regarding the staffing ratio, which was a red flag. They claimed that they couldn't give us any information since the occupancy levels changed periodically. Making matters worse, on one particular day my dad visited and was going to join my mom for dinner. However, no staff were present and residents were growing restless, so my dad had to visit the front desk to remind them to feed the residents. Their excuse - there was a staff meeting. I can't help but wonder how long the residents would have waited to be fed if my dad didn't intervene. We really had our hopes up, but In the end we removed my mom from Legend soon after moving in because we simply felt she wasn't safe there due to the lack of staffing. Considering that she enjoyed going out into the courtyard, it really worried us that she (or any resident) might fall and there would be no staff around to help her. Mind you, the facility is state of the art, nicely decorated and clean. However, it's by far the most expensive in the area at $8000/month for memory care (plus a $2500 one time fee). But what good is a beautiful facility for your loved one when there's not enough staff to keep them safe or stimulated?

We simply felt the lack of proper staffing posed a safety risk as well as the not enough healthy interaction. In the end we were extremely disappointed with Legend and didn't feel that my mom would be safe there.

My mother has lived in the memory care side for a year. The place is beautiful and Leslie and Jason both have a heart of gold. Leslie keeps the residents moving with games, movies and activities and she provides them with drinks and a snack when she is working. When she is not there, I've never seen a mid afternoon snack or glass of water offered to anyone. Jason keeps the place maintained and will do whatever he can to help residents and families at Legend. The reason for the low score is despite the sales office telling us my mother would be showered twice a week, it rarely gets done. She is resistant and staff doesn't have any tools to make sure she is clean. She mostly sleeps in her clothes and is often wearing the same thing for days and days. Laundry can't wash clothes separately. Despite how many times they say things are changing, it continues to happen. So you often get someone else's stained underwear in the basket. Many items of clothing and bedding and towels have gone missing. I've seen a woman known to not be able to feed herself sitting in the dining room without her food touched. No one was feeding her. The others were beginning to leave the room and she just sat there. Since the new director arrived, two girls are always sitting or leaning and not doing anything. No one else is visible in the halls. I can only guess how infrequently the diapers are changed. There is no one in charge that walks through and makes sure the staff is working. No management is in the dining rooms seeing how people who are entrusted to their care are being fed or not. The new nursing person for memory care put up curtains in his windows so no one can see him. There are some nice people who work there. It is a hard job. But it is not a place to be if your loved one is more advanced in their dementia journey.

This is an exceptionally warm and luxurious place with the ambiance of a five-star hotel and the warmth of a beloved neighborhood diner. Musical performance by local cellist Brian Kidd was enjoyable and we cannot thank sales manager Jess Adam enough for her hospitality and professionalism. "Cares Manager" might be a more a propos title for this angelic former social worker because her genuine concern and empathy are palpable.

Very impressive decorations and facility. Don't be fooled by it's looks. Staff is forever turning over, even the directors, nursing and care givers. Young workers who seem to be more interested in being on their phones or chatting with each other . My mother was here for about 7 months. Several incidents involving bruises and falls. All unwitnessed. The last fall resulted in a broken hip and vertebrae. I could not bring her back after her hip replacement. Stay away from the memory care side. I can't speak on the assisted living side.

Today, I was able to experience The Legend at Allentown. This community is well maintained kudos to the operations crew. I met with Tracey,Susie, and Leslie as they toured me around the community. Lots of activities going on, very active, lively community ! My dining experience I felt like I was in an elegant restaurant. During lunch, I sat with a few residents, and many chimed in on our conversation. We discussed how much they enjoy the food, activities, and size of their apartments as well as the staff and how "It feels like home." Thank you !!! Residents and staff, for todays experience, it was wonderful

The Legend of Allentown is a great place to live. Time and again I feel welcomed and included when I visit here. The care the residents receive is top notch, and there is always something to do. Their memory care set up is lovely, and allows for quiet reflection and vibrant programming as well. I love to visit for their featured musician performances each week! So grateful for this community.

I started working at Legend in Allentown, very enthusiastically, on June 16th, 2020. I was hired as part time evenings, my hours, being 4:30 to 8:00 PM every other weekend and three to four days a week. I had been hired earlier, but the hours and protocol had changed, that I decided not to take the job. When the pandemic hit and I lost my job and saw that the job I had applied for at Legends was still open, I decided to apply again. I was hired for approximately 20 hours a week including every other weekend and holidays which I had no problem with. Shortly after I started working, I was asked to work more hours than I was hired for. Having a physical disability, which I disclosed when I was hired, made it difficult. My manager knew that I also had to take care of my great-aunt which made it difficult to be at work sometimes, but I was always there within 5-10 minutes of starting my shift. I was given a list of chores to have finished each night. When I would take care of those chores I would be chastised by my manager for being away from my desk, even if it was to go to the ladies room. In the approximate year that I worked for Legend, I filled in 25+ days of either extra hours or days that I was supposed to have off (I still have all my schedules). Not to mention every time they asked me to come in for someone who called off, I took the shift. I was chastised for talking to myself (which was quietly talking to myself to keep my responsibilities on task) which was always called out by my manager. I know that there were times when I was late for work, and I explained why that was a problem. When I notified my managers why I was having some problems because of my lack of memory, they told me that they would do what they could to get me help to mitigate the problem, but I never got a response or help. I truly loved my job and the residents and my hours and did what I could to be more successful at my job. In the year that I worked there, there were at least four people that were turned over at my job, but I just couldn't give up, because I loved my job. It wasn't until my work ethics were questioned that I threw in my hat. I loved my job, I took tests on Relias that weren't even conducive to my position, but I passed them all. I did that to show my commitment to my job. I am truly sorry for walking out, but I felt I had no one behind me to stand up for my work other than the residents, and I didn't want them to have to be put in a position to speak against the administration.

My mother resides at Legend. They take such nice and individual attention to their residents. As an example, my mom had not seen her grandson since before Covid. He was to come in last night for a birthday dinner and got stuck in NYC traffic, not making into town until late last night which was a disappointment to my 85 year old mom who had really looked forward to it. Everyone was so helpful at Legend today to pivot to make it possible for our family to eat (safely) together over lunch and still celebrate--Carrie is such a delight in service in the dining room--there are too many wonderful people to name. What a great team of care providers. Would recommend to anyone. Safe and skilled.

My father has been a resident at Legend for the past several months and we couldn’t be happier with his care. The facility is state of the art (heads and shoulders above other facilities I visited) and the staff is extremely caring and compassionate. Even in these trying times, all the staff has stepped up to make sure residents needs are met. Just after a couple of weeks of living there, my father referred to Legend as home. I visit almost everyday and have gotten to know a lot of the residents and staff. There are days I wish I could move in…LOL

I have a family member in Personal Care and now one in Memory Care. I cant say enough wonderful things about the department heads and the staff. They all really care and love these residents. The residents all care about each other just like a family. I made the perfect choice in Legend of Allentown. If I could change one thing it would be the dining menu. To much of the same food. More variety especially vegetarian options for my Memory Care Resident. I think if the family requests a specific thing such as grilled cheese they should be able to have it no questions asked. The dining is my only complaint. I am confident that they will rectify this problem as I have recommended several other residents who have moved in.I love the amount of activities they provide. There is something for everyone. They can do everything or nothing. It keeps them engaged and socially active.Keep up the good work!

what a great community - fabulous care and activities for me family member. The Memory Care is big, unlike other facilities that I visited - lots to do and the team is caring.
June 2020
Glad Mom is here, she is one of the first to move in. Safe environment, lots of activities, she is proud of her room, and staff many times asked if she minds if they show her room to future residents. Still could use a better selection of meals, but they came a long way since opening.

Im not sure what Mr. Maxon is talking about, I believe he is a family member from out of state. I moved my Mom to Legend from another community, visit every day, and find the staff to be caring and competent. Its a shame that more people click like for a negative comment, then for a positive review. Visit the place and decide for yourself!
February 2019
My father is a new resident, and the staff has warmly welcomed him with respect and care and recognized him as a vibrant, lively senior.
