Horrible place. It used to be awesome. In the Nursing Home area, it is awful. I had someone I cared about that was there. The staff never answered his call light. He laid in his feces on more than one occasion. He had a severe rash on the bottom that did not help. He went without a bath for 3 weeks. Finally, a family member bathed him. Finally, we were able to get him out of there. He was given meds that the Doctor took him off of. Bad experience, I will never recommend this place again.

Our family has been blessed with the care and compassion given by the staff at Otterbein Portage Valley. Our mom has been in both skilled nursing and the Oakwood Assisted Living Center over the last 7 months due to multiple surgeries as well as respite care. In the beginning, Kaelyn and Ashley took us under their wings and guided us through the many peaks and valleys that our mom was traversing. We were extremely impressed with their expertise and leadership towards both us and the staff. Currently, mom has been staying at the Oakwood Assisted Living Center. The Director, Lori, has been amazing. She has helped us navigate through these difficult times with the utmost professionalism, knowledge and understanding of what is most important for our mom. Mandy, as well as the rest of the nurses are helpful, skillful, and compassionate in the care of our mother, while treating her like she is family. We would whole-heartedly recommend this facility and truly wish to thank all of the staff for everything they have done for our mom.

I have lived here now for one full year and I just love it. I have friends and activities, and the staff are all wonderful, kind and patient. Last summer the maintenance staff built two garden boxes for me, and my wife and I enjoyed tomatoes and cucumbers well into the Fall. I also have quite a hosta garden off my patio, and I planted a wide assortment of annuals and perennials in the front of the villa. When you become part of the Otterbein community, you don't have to give up anything, except the constant work and worry of owning and maintaining a home. I now have time to pursue my hobbies, plus I get to watch someone else shovel my snow for me! Our dog, Kiki, loves it even more than we do, as there's a huge campus for her to explore.

I have been working at Otterbein for a little under a year! Otterbein is a wonderful place to work. I have enjoyed interning there and Im getting the best training possible. Everyone on staff is very kind and the residents are awesome to work with. We do a lot of fun activities that the residents really enjoy. All the food that chef makes is delicious as well. Highly recommend!
