RiverSpring Living Frequently Asked Questions

What does RiverSpring Living cost?

RiverSpring Living determines pricing for independent living, assisted living, and memory care based on care type, staffing, care level, and services provided. Additional support like wellness monitoring, personal care, and social engagement may impact the total cost. Call (800) 755-1458 for customized quotes and tailored pricing.

Does RiverSpring Living accept Medicare or Medicaid?

Medicare does not fund independent living, assisted living, memory care, or home care as these services are considered non-medical and fall outside its scope. However, Medicare may cover medical services like physical therapy or doctor visits if prescribed as part of a treatment plan. Certain memory care services, such as medical monitoring or assistance with healthcare needs, may qualify for Medicare coverage. Medicaid may help offset the costs of assisted living, memory care, or home care through state-specific programs, but independent living is not typically covered. For accurate guidance and personalized advice, call (800) 755-1458 to speak with a trained senior advisor.

Absolutely the best place in Riverdale the staff was amazing In particular nurses Eileen and Patricia amazing!!! My father initially went in for rehab and they really got walking again unfortunately his INR continued to fluctuate and he ended up in the hospital and I decided to move him to a place that was literally right next-door to home HUGE HUGE mistake on my part. Now trying to get him transfer back to the Hebrew home but long waitlist. Hopefully he goes back as soon as possible. Anyway, if I ended up in this place one day I'd be happy. Highly recommend The Hebrew home in Riverdale to any loved one. And fun fact you could visit with your furry friends that's our dog visiting grandpa

My mother recently stayed at The Hebrew Home in Riverdale, NY for rehab after surgery to repair a broken hip. This is my mother's fourth stay here following various hospitalizations and surgical procedures. Each and every time, we have been so impressed with the care and compassion she has received from the dedicated staff. At 81 years old, having a broken hip is very discouraging to a patient. However, the staff provided just the right amount of empathy and encouragement to our mother to get her committed to the rehab program so that she could go home and live independently again. The good news is she just returned home and now she can use a walker and other adaptive devices in her home to take care of herself. The environment at The Hebrew Home is more than just a rehab facility. The staff over communicated and kept our family up-to-date on Mom's rehab plan and progress. Beyond the staff, the entire facility and grounds are beautiful and provide multiple areas for our family and our Mom to get a needed break from the rigors of rehab. We could take her to the living room to visit with us, outside to the patio to enjoy a sunny day or for a walk along the trail that led to a gazebo by the Hudson River We are eternally grateful to The Hebrew Home and the staff for making this possible. While she was at The Hebrew Home, Mom felt safe and cared for and when we visited we saw first hand the amazing care that she received. We want to share our positive experiences with this facility.

My grandmother lived there for 10+ years. When she initially moved in she was 85 and weak. We did not expect her to be with us long. Over time she got stronger. The nice outdoor grounds and activities available really lifted her spirit. She lived until 96 and we were grateful for her care. Like any place, you need to remain involved, visit regularly, and get to know the staff and social worker. My friend's mother recently moved into the Hebrew Home and while new restrictions are in place at times due to covid, her mother's health is improving. My suggestion is if you want a place with a good range of facilities, decent food options, along with real outdoor space, this is a great place to consider. However, you need to remain actively involved: call your loved one daily, visit regularly. If/when issues pop up you can raise it and address it quickly. Most of the staff is great but like in any place all you need is 1 bad employee to impact care. That is what we did for my grandmother and my friend is doing for her mother and it really helps the quality of care.

When I was in junior high school on Long Island, my maternal great grandmother was a resident at this facility—then known as the "Hebrew Home for the Aged." (The name seems indeed somewhat dated, now.) My family used to visit her occasionally. It was a bit of a road trip, as I recall. We made it fun, and the facility was immaculate and seemed very very nice. (I was just a kid; I wasn't judging the level of care or anything, just how pleasant the surroundings were.) It seems to me that in the Hebrew tradition, people take very good care of their elders, and that's reflected in this rest home.

I can't say enough good things about Hebrew Home. My mother has been there for almost two years. She has dementia and a few other problems. They have treated her wonderfully. If my mother had been living in her home, or in any other facility, she would not be alive today. She's 90 years old now and very feisty. They monitor her health, her nutrition, and basically anything else she needs. I can't wait for the place to open up so I can take my mother on walks around the beautiful complex on the Hudson River. I know she enjoys that so much. Thank you to all the staff at RP3. They are true heroes.

My father is been there for a little over a year due to Alzheimers and Dementia, my sisters and I are very pleased with this place. He's doing great. The staff is very nice and they seem to care about my father and the other patients. The communication is very good as well. The social worker always keeps in touch with us. So far, I have no complaints about it.

my mother started out in rehab which was mediocre. The staff does their best but they are very under staffed. The ratio is 1 aide for 11 people who are mostly all total care. They get the residents dressed and put them in a wheelchair where they stay all day until bedtime. My mother became comfort care which they assured us they could handle but who puts a dying person in a wheelchair all day? Luckily we were there everyday and insisted she be allowed to go to bed. We transferred my mother to Calvary in the Bronx where most of the patients are terminally ill and they have experience with this type of patient and the compassionate staff to care for them. If they tell you they can handle your loved one who is dying, don't believe it.

My mother was admitted to rehab at the Hebrew Home where she benefited greatly. The problem is that one of the aides there solicited my sister and brother to forgo the possibility of long term care for a health care agency (such solicitation is against the HH rules) and my siblings unfortunately believed the horror stories of that aide, never considering that the aide was likely receiving a kickback for the referral. She connected my sister and brother to a middle-man who coordinated with the agency. Now that my mother is home it appears that her aide from that agency is abusing her, and my mother is too afraid to say anything. It is a scary situation. One key to the HH is for family members, if possible, to be as present and proactive as possible. I found that even though my calls to staff were not always returned, when I went back to the HH I noticed that most of my requests were honored. I was given a reasonable explanation for those that were not. If you are a sibling and/or health care proxy, you can ask the nurse on duty for the weekly reports on your relative. This will enable you to see what is being done for your loved one daily and you can comment and ask for changes. I also hired a family friend to spend the day with my mother, once a week, and she would tell me what she saw while caring for her. (She never told me anything negative about the facility and the people working there. In fact, her feedback was always positive and she sent me a number of photos of my mother smiling and happy. I experienced the same thing whenever I would visit.) Additionally, family members and friends would visit at night, even over night, and during the day. I realize however, that no matter how caring and well-meaning, some people are not in the position to do that. My mother always gave me positive feedback on staff. While some have questioned the medical staff at the HH, I have found that the biggest problem may be the aides (while a number are very good, or good, others can be horrible). But there is supervision at the HH and you can complain. (Just make sure your complaint is confidential in case the aide hears about it and is tempted to retaliate.) It can get even trickier with home health aides because they can lie to you on the phone while offering inferior care and abusing your loved one when alone with him or her at home. I found this especially problematic for aides that work 24/7 (no matter how experienced). One reason may be that they are only paid for 13 of the 24 hours per day they are at the house. (My understanding is that Medicaid pays for 13 not 24.) This can be tenuous in the long run if your loved one is up at night and tends to wander, or needs additional care during the night. Whether your loved one is at home or in a long-term care facility, it is important to be hands-on, watchful and visit as much as possible, if possible.

I was at the Hebrew home for six weeks for rehab. The rehab was great. However the facility has nursing students to help on weekdays so the serve is goods. You wait longer on wends the foods is another matter. The main meal is at lunch, . The quality is fine at lunch. Supper , I must say was terrible. One can her tired of fish, or s rambles eggs. They place every one on a diet. I lost twelve Pounds during my stay. One must remember that this is a kosher, so if you bring in food keep I t hiddenQ. If one must remember this is a rehab facility, not a gourmet facility
