4 years ago, my Father needed to go to Memory Care. This left my Mother alone in their house. My Mother had never lived alone in her entire life. She lasted about 2 weeks and then announced to me, "I am not staying here by herself!" Fortunately we had met Wesley Morrow at Stellar Senior Housing Experts. He took my Mom, Brother, and I around to several Assisted Living Facilities in the Albuquerque area. I have to say, this was the easiest decision we've had to make in our lives! Fairwinds was head and shoulders above the rest. Mom moved in the next month and lived there very happily for the next 4 years until she passed last month. There are too many good things about Fairwinds for me to name them all, but let me tell you a couple. First of all, the staff is amazing. From Management to the lady who took care of Mom's kitty, everyone was top notch. I think the greatest thing that the staff imparted to my Mom was that she mattered. They went above and beyond on a daily basis to give her the individual attention that kept her going. I will never forget them and all that they did for our family. Another aspect that I have to mention is the facility itself. It's beautiful! and clean! and just what you want for your loved one. Mom's apartment was always clean, and repairs were made in a timely manner and well. Their dining hall set up (which is really a restaurant) works very nicely. This is where my Mom met and made so many new friends. Just go on a tour, you will see! And finally I would like to thank the nursing staff in particular. The longer Mom lived at Fairwinds, the more care she needed, and I know my family could not have begun to give Mom the quality of care that she received from those angels. They were always knowledgeable, professional, caring, thorough and above all, kind. (And really did do everything with a smile) Thank you Fairwinds for taking such good care of my Mom. December 3, 2025 LOCK UP YOUR VALUABLES at Fairwinds, Rio Rancho. Locking your unit doesn't prevent theft. My mom lost a sweater jacket, silver bracelet, two wine glasses, a door decoration and $200 in cash taken from her wallet in her file cabinet, before we put a lock on he cabinet During move out, when the unit was unattended, but locked, multiple bottles of liquor were stolen from a box packed and ready to be moved. Management suggested that if someone wants access to your unit the front desk will accommodate without your permission or knowledge. The best protection is to install a security camera which we did after a number of personal items were stolen. When we disassembled the security camera during move out, the liquor was stolen. We visited in Jan, put a deposit down, and were told 3-6 months until a one-bedroom apartment might become open. October, we got the call. We had visited three times prior. We were set to sign the final papers and ONLY because I called to change the date to sign, we were told they could not provide services to my brother because he might fall!!! The unprofessional part of this was he was not called until about 10 days ON A SUNDAY to tell him the apartment we were waiting on would not be available for him, I would say beware...things may not seem as one is led to believe. We now are looking elsewhere and have found a better place. The place that was at the top of the list is now at the bottom.

Both of my parents were residents here for over 3 years. We have been through management changes, staff changes, and the occasional equipment breakdown. Throughout it all, my parents were safe, well cared for, and happy. The residents were welcoming, asking each other to join the table at meals and my parents made new friends. The staff have become friends and as close as family. When my mother was on hospice services, the care staff came by every few hours to assist with her care or just to be present for her and for my dad. The kitchen staff would bring smoothies or other food they thought might appeal to my mom when she had no appetite. The health and wellness staff have always been quick to call me if they feel there are any changes or if they think my parents are looking or acting different than they normally do. Because of them, I was able to go to work comfortable in the knowledge I would be called if anything changed and further action was needed. After each of my parent's passing, the staff were there for support, sympathy and consolation. Fairwinds is an integral part of our family and I recommend them often as a great option for those looking for safe options for aging loved ones.

The staff was so helpful to Mom and she frequently remarked about how all of them were so good to her. She did not want to live anywhere else. The Fairwinds Team has been extremely helpful and supportive throughout our aging parents stay. The Director and Head nurse have helped us navigate our increased care needs and the financial accomodations to help our parents age in a safe place. We love the facility and the accommodations/activities. The staff and new chef are always friendly and willing to listen to new ideas. Food is much improved we take our family to eat there. Fairwinds Retirement Community Rio Rancho is an excellent place for a senior in terms of the care, love and support given to the residents. My Mother lived there for 8 years until she passed. When it was time for my Mother to move from independent living to assisted living, she was especially comforted to be staying under the same roof. She could remain where she was familiar with her surroundings, staff and keep her friends. She was always loved and cared for in the most respectful manner. The staff was quick to respond to my requests and questions concerning my Mother. They never made me feel as though I was being a nuisance. When my Mother did pass, the entire staff went out of their way to accommodate and help us with any issues that presented themselves. They were also a source of emotional support during a difficult time. The staff is great and the management team is professional. I highly recommend.

I looked around for a place for my 90-year-old mother to live, where she would be happy and get her health back. I moved her from a horrible place in Henderson, NV, and I looked around and read all the reviews. I called Fairwinds-Rio Rancho and set up a tour with Kimberley Koonce. What a fabulous and beautiful person she is! My husband and I felt welcomed and loved it the minute we walked through the doors of their facility. They welcomed us with signs, and management all came out to greet us. We took the fabulous tour, ate at their beautiful on-site restaurant, and enjoyed one of the best meals in town. Now that my mom lives there, she is beyond happy and healthy. She raves about how glad I found this place for her. The employees are ALL compassionate and caring and care about the residents' needs. If I were younger, I would love to work there, or even when I get to the age of possibly needing independent living or assisted living, I would choose Fairwinds-Rio Rancho in a heartbeat. I would give them a bazillion stars if possible. Everyone there is deeply loved by the Bladas!

Amazing place with caring staff. My mom lived here for 4 years and she loved it. Everyone we encountered were professional and compassionate especially as mom entered her end of life care. The mix of independent and assisted living creates a lively and engaging environment and within a few weeks of mom moving in she had a great social life. She particularly loved the variety of games she could play and she made many friends. Highly recommend.

There are great ammenities here! I enjoy the walking paths. The entire complex is right on the crest of a hill bordering the mesa that overlooks the Albuquerque Valley. The view is amazing! The people are friendly and helpful, and the food is great! So many things to do and see. The apartments are perfect for one or 2 and have great views and accessibility!

My mother-in-law has lived at Fairwinds for almost 6 years. My parents moved in about 3 years ago. They each started on the independent side apartments, but both mothers moved to Assisted Living (my Dad passed). Both of our moms have lovely apartments that we recreated like their homes. They receive wonderful support in areas they need. We have spent countless hours at Fairwinds and have experienced all aspects of the community. Please don't hesitate to have your family member move in. My husband and I are very grateful our parents are truly happy at FW. We're happy they love living there and are safe and well cared for. The atmosphere of the community is warm and inviting. The restaurant serves food they like, the activities are interesting, fun, varied and plentiful. The employees, director and nurse care about our loved ones and it shows. Many have become like family to us. We've experienced a strong willingness to kindly address any minor issue that needs attention. My husband and I highly recommend Fairwinds. Check it out for yourself and you will notice the difference between it and other facilities.

Fairwinds was a new venture for my mother who was experiencing early onset dementia. we chose Fairwinds because she still wanted independence, healthy meals, safety and camaraderie. After 9 months, mom lost 30+ pounds. We had to purchase food for her to prepare herself. All too often the portions were small, example tablespoon size bacon for BLT sandwich, ridiculous! She would order salad, not get it, no Mexican food yet we live in NM. Turkey meal was sliced turkey sandwich meat, not fresh! If mom missed the lunch or dinner meal even by a few minutes (I was with her on a couple occasions) she was offered a hotdog. Our last straw was Mom falling on a Friday afternoon and the morning check on Saturday morning did not find her down & out laying on the floor. Mom was on the floor for 36 hours and which lead to hospitalization, rehab and ultimately moving her out of Fairwinds. The new manager Doralee is absolutely horrendous to deal with. . She claims she cares about everyone in the facility but this is clearly not true. Feel free to contact me if you have other questions about placing your parents or yourself here.

My Dad was living in this facility. He was in Assisted living. This facility is awesome. From the food to care taking. I found the Care givers to be so caring and have so much compassion. My Sad unfortunately passed away on Wednesday the 15th of February. They took care of him along with Hospice. They have laundry service and housekeeping. Lots of activities if you want to get involved.

We feel so fortunate that we moved our Mom into Fairwinds. She was very happy there for 3 years. The entire staff became like family to us. We were in and out on almost a daily basis so we saw. the team in action. It was amazing to us that even when we dealt with an employee for the first time each employee seemed happy to help. The residents are so well cared for and enjoy quite a social life. The staff went above and beyond every time we made a request. Thank you to Doralei for accommodating every request we made. Our cousin received great care at Fairwinds, I have many great things to say about it. The lobby is inviting and comfortable with many residents sitting around and chatting. They have a little bistro there where you can always pick up coffee, tea or a fruit infused water. They have snack items too like freshly baked sweets, popcorn etc etc. The staff has always been very professional and friendly. The activities abound, they even have a Happy Hour on Fridays. They treated our resident with lots of love and care. I hope I can live there someday.

Pandemic and quarantine requirements has made it difficult to visit or spend time with our loved ones in Assisted Living facilities. Mom's 82nd birthday was July 7th. And, thanks to Jade Hogan and the staff at Fairwinds Rio Rancho, they made it possible to celebrate mom's birthday via Zoom. Multi generations of our family's faces from NM, NC, OR, and TX were displayed across the big theater screen for mom see...her brother, sister, children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. With so many family members on Zoom, it was a bit chaotic, yet fun. Thank you Fairwinds for going above and beyond to make Gloria Reedy's birthday a memorable one. Your efforts are much appreciated! This place is more an independent living with minor assistance. If your loved one has the possibility of Dementia or Alzheimer, or if your elderly loved one is prone to UTI's then I would suggest staying away from here. My mother in law became very anxious and irritated. They did virtually nothing for her, except make my husband stay with her, all because of a UTI that they should have thought to test for. My mother in law was then admitted into a behavioral health center without notifying any of her family. The only reason Im giving 3 stars is because the food is excellent.

Great staff and lots of options for activities. I've had two relatives live there for a total of over 4 years. I have spent hundreds of hours enjoying the festivities and socializing with my relatives. I believe the staff works hard to keep things upbeat and comfortable. And that said, it is very nice and a good value. Food is good, common areas clean. I hope a place like this is available when I decide it's time. It would be a blessing. I read some of the less positive reviews and simply know some folks are NEVER SATISFIED. NEVER. Whiners.....

They can't keep a chef or kitchen staff. They've had 4 or 5 in the last year. We've had food cooked with rancid oil. I've thrown away food that smell terrible and I couldn't identify. They use pressed chicken loaf and call it roast chicken and use cubes of it in their soup. They've promoted the concierge to Manager of the facility. She has no facility management experience. The elevator to the 3rd floor is broken again and has been out of order for a week. The last time it was out of order for 2 months. Now the air conditioning has been out for 2 days. it’s 87 degrees in her apartment. Many people up there on that floor on oxygen. Nobody’s offering ice or fans or an explanation.
