I have lived here for over 4 years, and my rent has gone up over $1,000 during this time. In the beginning, I was charged $160 for several delivered meals. Then months later I was billed twice in one month. That person still works here. Also, the light over my door has been out for over a year. The a/c unit leaked on floor. Instead of emptying the condensing water pan, the overflow hole was plugged. Water backed up and black mold is in the unit. The commode had a small pipe leak, three visits from maintenance, and now a small flow into bowl is continuous and the tank flushes by itself every 15 minutes. Housekeeping is bringing in large roaches and large black ants that sting. Housekeeping has knocked over, broken and then thrown away small art carvings collectibles and boxes labeled for returns to sellers costing me a great deal. I have been robbed of $150.00, a prescription bottle of anxiety medication and had a bag of dog [language removed] put in my laundry hamper. No administrator would even come to my room. I had to call the police and report the incident. Laundry is ripped in half and holes are in towels, those that didn't get stolen. I had a UPS delivery of refrigerated medication worth $550.00 on 9-5-2025 which could not be found. Ten days later I saw the box. It was marked open immediately and may need refrigeration. It was behind reception desk, up against the wall and out of sight. There is more but I can't finish my list. We have new owners [third in 4 years] and I hope things can be improved. L G Woodard

The location is great! The staff is very nice and residents are friendly and welcoming. However, the facility needs renovations from fresh paint to updated furnishings. The menu/food served needs better options that are suitable for an elderly population with dentures and/or dental problems and digestive concerns. It's a pleasant place just needs the above issued addressed as soon as possible and it will be top notch!

I have lived at Independence Village for almost eight years. I find the staff to be generally friendly and responsive. The meals are good, although they tend to have too many carbohydrates. The building is about thirty years old, so it's not in perfect shape, but it's kept clean, and they are constantly making improvements. The residents are friendly. The activities director is excellent, and there is a very active bridge club. One of the best things about Independence Village is its location - within walking distance of restaurants, a grocery store, two banks, a pack-and-ship store, two pharmacies, a nail salon, and a hairdresser. It's also near Rex Hospital and many doctors offices.

I am 80 yrs. old. I have been living here for 4 1/2 years. I started paying $1500 per month for a one bedroom. I have received notice each year that my rent increases and this month it will be $2515. That is any increase of $1005 in this time. I only have Social Security for income $2505 per month and now unable to purchase my medication or my telephone bill. I have spoke with management here and have been told to contact corporate since they make the decisions. I have not been able to reach anyone at the corporate office. Starting for March my monthly payment will be $2515. I was told I need to find another place and I don't have the funds or help needed to relocate I have contacted the NC Attorney Generals Office and I'm going to file a complaint against the company and was told they have received prior complains against this company. You can call me at 919-307-8855 if you have any question or concerns about living here.

I was there after 9 pm last evening to check on a resident. The main doors were open with NO one at the front desk. Still No one there when I left approximately 30 minutes later. Anyone could have easily entered with no questioning. Quite concerning.

My friend is a resident here, so I've been to visit and have lunch a few times. My friends apartment is nice and spacious, plenty of storage. The gardens are particularly lovely spaces: lots of comfortable seating, box gardens and planters, and birdhouses that residents can put out. And grow flowers, herbs, etc. There is a game room for bridge, bingo, cards. There's a comfy movie watching room with popcorn machines. Big, hallways to move easily in. Staff seems really nice, and residents I've met are always friendly. Always smells clean. The reason I'm giving only 3 stars is because of the quality of the food. The food purchased and prepared is sub-par, and not very eatable. Poor nutritional quality as well. Fried chicken gizzards (fried to leather consistency), and French fries? Served to senior citizens? With a dab of Cole slaw? This place can do so much better! The soup was passable, but again, only a tiny bit served. A good diet, of lean meat, vegetables, fruits, grains, and dairy and grain options (cow, almond, oat. Wheat, gluten free,) of nutritionally significant value, in correct portion sizes will go a long way to not only maintaining, but possibly improving resident health. As well as increasing mood health! A good, hearty, healthy meal goes a long way to making your day brighter. What my friend had to eat today, was shameful. For what the residents pay, surely you can do better.

I moved my mom to Independence Village from another independent living facility in May. Of course, I had worries about the transition, and she was anxious and nervous about it as well. However, two weeks ago when I visited her, as I do on Thursdays, she told me something that let me know we had made the exact right choice for her. One of her hobbies is playing the Publisher's clearing House sweepstakes. She informed me that "when" she wins her two, five, or 10 million, she wants to stay right there at Independence Village of Olde Raleigh because it is the best place for her. I say that is quite an endorsement!

This place is amazing. I'm so happy we found it for mom . We love the staff Wanda, Ann, Katrina are so welcoming we felt at home right away . Mom has improved so much being there, loves her new friends and all the activities. They really do put their heart into every detail to make everyone feel special . They have lifted such a huge burden off our shoulders knowing mom is happy and looked after but has her own apartment and space to herself. I could go on and on about how pleased we are finding this hidden gem with such great people.

Thanks to all the helpful, knowledgeable, courteous folks that helped at the Friday event. Great Job everyone! The staff and volunteers did the best they could under these Covid circumstances. The event was a success.

Independent Village Of Olde Raleigh is a great place to live. The Activities Director is caring, experienced, and fun. She provides daily activities that are enjoyable and engaging and the bell choir she started is amazing. Being active is a great way to spend ones senior years and this place rocks.
March 2021
This is a wonderful place! My mother is happy here and has made some very good friends! The staff are excellent, work well together and treat everyone like family (Wanda, Katie, Katrina, Christal, …). My mother loves the exercise classes, gardening, gardening club, movies, library, 3 pianos, music group, bell ringers, guest performances, etc. On certain days of the week, they will take you to doctors appointments, shops, the grocery store, and more (COVID has impacted the schedule.) Its in a great location. It is within a very short walk to a grocery store and a few restaurants. Im so glad we found IVOR!
March 2021
My mom has lived here for several years and is very happy. She loves her apartment and feels very safe. Plus that, the residents have been kept so safe during the pandemic. I really appreciate that!
March 2021
Two of my relatives have called Independence Village of Olde Raleigh home over the past three years and loved it! My aunt was thrilled that she could keep her dog (small dogs, cats allowed) and she enjoyed the wide variety of programs and outings. My dad, who was at first reluctant to leave his home, soon began making new friends and enjoying the 3 meals per day. (The chefs do a great job catering to residents palates.) Dad relished his spacious one-bedroom apartment (over 500 square feet) with large windows and a mini kitchen. Staff has always been very responsive and kind. The facility is well managed. The directors door is always open for answering questions or chatting. Bayada does a fantastic job with onsite physical and occupational therapy. The onsite service, Caring Senior Service, stepped up to provide extra assistance for dad as his care needs changed. Overall, this is a very loving community of residents, staff and partners who truly care about each other.

I am a health advocate for a senior friend whom we helped move into Independence Village a year ago. She has gone from isolated to social butterfly! Between the bell choir, writing club, Christmas play and the simple things like dining with friends, her life is so much richer.
March 2021
I have lived at Independence Village for 6 years. My apartment is comfortable with windows for light and fresh air, as desired. Storage is adequate with a walk-in closet. The staff are very nice and helpful. Activities are available with a very talented activities director. We are close to medical offices with transportation provided as needed. Food is plentiful and varied. I can walk to the grocery store, bank and shopping in a very nice residential community. Providing a residence I am happy to call home.
March 2021
Very thankful for the IVOR team organizing the vaccination program for care givers yesterday. It takes a significant amount of effort to host an event of this size and it was completed in an efficient manner. The staff and volunteers were outstanding. Thank you.
March 2021
My Mother has been a resident at Independence Village in her fourth year. The Staff are friendly and helpful, my Mother loves Katies chair exercise, and the facility is clean and safe. Recently Care Givers were offered the Covid 19 vaccine which went well, and was a big undertaking for the Staff.
March 2021
Our family toured several independent living communities when we chose a place for our mom. The calm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere attracted us at first to Independence Village of Olde Raleigh. In the following 4 years that feeling has been strengthened by the constant efforts of the staff - at all levels - to intelligently and efficiently ensure the security and independence of the community. The location is amazingly convenient to healthcare, shopping, banks, museums, you name it. The building is attractive without looking like a snooty hotel. The staff treat the residents like respected friends, not just as customers.ALL the staff are especially commended for their outstanding management during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many thanks.
March 2021
Katy the Activity Director is friendly, approchable, knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond! She helps with technology and is kind and patient when helping me. If we run in to trouble, shes resourceful and can find the answer.
March 2021
This has been a wonderful place for my mother. She loves her fellow residents, the staff and the facilities. Its a comfort to know that she can be safe and still thrive in a warm friendly environment.
March 2021
Such a beautiful place filled with professionals who really seem to care for the residents. There are so many activities daily and I think that has to do in large part to the a women named Katy who over sees them. She really seeks to enrich the lives of the people who live there and it shows! Highly recommend for an aging loved one!
March 2021
My mom has been there for a year and a half. Its a great place! The employees are wonderful and very understanding. They call if there is an issue and keep us all very informed. Wanda has built a great team. They treat everyone with respect. There are also activities for the residents and a driver to take them to doctors appointments, etc. Its been tough for everyone during this pandemic but they try to make it as easy for the residents as possible.
March 2021
Five stars not only for being a cozy, welcoming community but for their outstanding handling of the COVID 19 threat. The director was clear in communicating and enforcing policies and procedures. She has been thoughtful in her leadership and has managed the evolving challenges with common sense and compassion. Kudos to the staff as well who have kept the residents safe, sane and entertained!
March 2021
So Far So Good!In the months since I moved in I have found that Residents and Staff are all positive and happy, and activities are great. I feel safe, and that any concerns are heard and addressed. May family is very happy about this Community as well. I highly recommend Independence Village to anyone looking to move into a senior community.
March 2021
Its a great place for seniors that want to choose how to spend their later years. Its Independent living, but Residents can have assistance from family or caregivers and live out their whole life in the same place if they need it. Its close to shops, there are a bunch of activities to participate in, there are other Residents to socialize with, and even in a pandemic, you can live in a community of peers and be safe.
March 2021
This is a lovely facility that offers great amenities for their residents! The planned activities are fun and creative while also adhering to public health guidelines for safety. We think theyre groovy!
December 2020
Like my new apartment. A few communication problems. Love that I face the courtyard. Large building, long walk to cafeteria. I enjoy not having to wash dishes. Enjoying being around other people during this pandemic.
November 2020
I am so happy to have found this place for my father - for so many reasons! First, I feel so much better that my father is in a place that he can live independently, in a safe environment, and still have people that genuinely take an interest in seeing he is doing well. Second, everyone I have come into contact with from Wanda, to Colleen, to Krystal, and so many others behind the scenes are easy to work with, responsive, super friendly, compassionate, creative, and they think of everything! Third, I evaluated many senior living options in Wake and Durham counties and IV offers by far the best value...the most for your money IMO. So much is included in the price. And its in a great area! So many options in walking distance to shop, eat, bank and more. I could keep going on - bottom line I highly recommend this place.
August 2020
The staff here is very caring and the management is totally hands-on. They are a happy crew, and organized an extravaganza for my mothers 107th birthday that made the local news. They are responsive not only in emergencies but for the good times as well. Cant say enough about them.
March 2020
Ive lived at Independence Village for over 4 years now, and as far as Im concerned, this is my home. In her 1.5 years here, Wanda Pore, our Executive Director, has taken some great steps forward. The staff is great, the food is great and with the recent upgrades, the place looks beautiful. We are looking forward to even more steps: a more powerful WiFi system for the residents, a new kitchen, new flooring in the hallways, and new dining room furniture. Speaking of the staff, I would ike to commend certain members of the staff for a ob well-done: the entire staff at the front desk;Katy Parfitt, whose picture should be in thedictionary after the definition for the mostwonderful Activity Director, Tony Ramos, ourMaintenance Director who can - and does - fix anything -- with a smile, David Richardson, our ransportation director, who goes way out of his way to help residents in need of a ride to theiroctor, dentist, or whatever. I would also like to hank Kairah Battle, our solid-rock mealtimeerverwho, with her phenomenal memory and ability, make all her customers happy.
