I have live here and the staff is very caring and treat the residents with respect. Givens is like a family and I love it.There have been problems but they are listening to the residents and helping solving them with caring and loving tenderness and respect.

Beautiful estate with lovely residents. Employment vise, I highly don't recommend working in Housekeeping. They do not accept doctors notes and have no rules as to animals being out in the open in apartments. I was recently laid off for trying to respectfully address a situation with a colleague (which states I can do in their policy handbook). My reason for termination was because "my manager told me not to say anything" which isn't true. I have proof of a phone call conversation which they didn't even allow me to show to defend myself. I will be following with a lawsuit. I think I was mistaken for a young black girl who won't stick up for herself but I'm far from that and my last name holds a lot of weight in this town. See you in court Givens!

Very nice facility. If you are healthy, wealthy, and have premium long-term health care insurance. This is a brief synopsis of personal experience. So you buy into the place, this amount is equal to a nice house, 15 years ago, about 250k. What you receive in return is a housing unit, use of the facilities, and a meal allowance for eating on campus. Similar to a condo their is a very high monthly maintenance bill. Buy-in options have changed some with more options. If you need some assistance in living that is available but is not covered with your monthly fees or buy-in, and the on-campus provider may or may not be covered by your insurance. If your finances change, they won't kick you out, and they do have section 8 designated units. The cost for uncovered services is $50 an hour (35$ min.), as an example, someone to help with meds. Food is expensive, $8 for a hot dog... Update, $12 for a foot long Carolina Dog, and it's basically upscale cafeteria food, sometimes hot sometimes not. They do have a more upscale restaurant, but a sit-down meal will set you back $50, and I've always left disappointed. Beautiful setting lots of nature trails, gardens, and a beautiful pond (when it isn't empty for maintenance). Lots of wildlife, they did actively mitigate all water fowel, but the plastic swans are doing great. The visits down the mountain by the bears are a nice annual surprise. I do recommend it, but only if you meet the criteria in the first line.

We had the pleasure of dinning at Terrene. We did not know what to expect but it all came together with the help and knowledge of Brady (our server). The Filet was cooked to perfection and how do they do that wonderfullness that is their Scallop dish!!! Lemon cake to finish of the night. Simply amazing... Kudos to the whole team at Terrene, with a special thanks to Brady for his menu knowledge and hospitality!! Thanks

After a rough start, I've come to appreciate Givens. The setting is beautiful, with mountain streams running through the campus. There are friendly people here, and they did a good job navigating COVID. My mother and father had to suffer through a noisy environment for the first 18 months at Givens Estate with little consideration from the management. First, my parent's move-in to a new unit was delayed for almost a year by construction overruns. They had already sold their house and had to rent or live at their friend's home. Management only offered token support during this difficult time. Once in their unit they were exposed to loud construction noise for quite some time. The construction of their unit is a bit sub par, when it comes to noise. They are located on the first floor above the HVAC room, which was not sound insulated so rumbling and whistling noises are nearly constant. This seems to have gotten better on recent visits.

I moved into Givens Estates the year I turned 60 and was definitely on the young side of residents, but it turned out to be the best decision I've ever made. I now have a rich social network of friends (more than when I lived in a regular neighborhood and barely knew my neighbors!). Because I moved in while still active I am able to take advantage of all the activities and amenities Givens offers - the pottery studio, fabulous dining, clubs, a well-equipped fitness center, etc. Being comfortably established in familiar surroundings will definitely make the aging process much easier and less stressful for me. It also wasn't until I moved here that I realized how much stress I could let go of with no longer having to worry about maintaining my own home. If there is a problem with my house, I call Maintenance, and they respond quickly and take care of the problem. The staff are wonderful and do their utmost to take care of us which allows us to truly enjoy life to the fullest. You will find the residents to be vibrant and active, and I am delighted to be a part of this great community!

So I visit this place for my job frequently and this is a really nice place with really friendly staff. They're a little strict when it comes to outside work, there are some rules we have to follow being outside contractors, that are cantankerous, and some of the residents can be the same.

We couldn't be happier with our new home at Givens. The staff were accessible and helped with our transition every step of the way. We decided 10 years ago that we wanted to live at Givens at some point. When Friendship Park was being planned, we liked what we saw and knew that the time was right for us to move. Our advice? Don't wait too late - go ahead and inquire. You will be glad that you did.

Givens Estates has been a thoroughly professional and well managed organization that has maintained personal contact and personalized accommodation throughout the process. From the start, we were treated honestly and warmly by every single staff member we encountered. Promises were kept, information freely flowed and there was never a hint of the otherwise inevitable "surprise". Even as the project end date was pushed further out, we always felt we were being well taken care of, our needs were being considered, and every effort to accommodate our situation was being made. We certainly never felt alone or ignored. Our move went very smoothly and we were more than welcomed into the community. The "Buddy" system Givens employs is perfect! What a help and comfort those folks are. As I told Mr. Cowens, we felt comfortable, welcomed, and perhaps even a bit special. There is nothing like arriving for dinner at Market and Crafts and being invited time after time to share a table with residents whom we don't know but are eager to get to know us. Moving is stressful, but we knew we were being cared for. The many seminars that helped prepare us were extremely useful and provided a great sense of comfort that things would go well - and they have. We would never hesitate to recommend Givens Estates to anyone seeking an independent living community. We are very happy we made this move! Peggy and Tom Whit

Givens Estates has so much to offer that I sometimes forget that the whole wonderful world of Asheville and Western North Carolina lies just beyond our campus. I was drawn to Givens for the 110 acres of reserved forest land with extensive hiking trails and our beautifully maintained central grounds. I soon discovered our culture of kindness and respect that permeates our broadly inclusive community. I appreciate the many activities available from our fitness classes, Yoga classes, and Yoga Nidra, to dancing with friends in our resident created "Moving to Music" group, music events, art classes, and educational offerings. I can always find tasty choices in our three unique dining venues. Our administration actually welcomes resident input when making or changing policy and is supportive of our strong Resident Association. Givens is committed to supporting each resident in living as independently as possible for as long as possible. From my perspective, after observing the experiences of friends and family in other retirement communities, we are a model for Life Plan Communities.

I have lived at Givens Estates for 16 years. I have transitioned into the Assisted Living Facility on campus and I am very happy with my experience and the care at Givens. Everyone is so wonderful and pleasant.

I have lived at Givens Estates 8 months. The grounds are thoughtfully and beautifully maintained, There are over 52 resident groups to consider/join. Things I love already to do and new interests to explore. I can learn or teach. There is a bluebird volunteer mission. A wonderful pool, hot tub and fitness center. Great instructors and lots of fitness classes and yoga. The comradery of fellow residents is happening all the time. 5+ miles of onsite hiking trails. Sunday Vespers Service. A wonderful community to live at. So glad I am a part of it.

Givens Estates provides a wonderful environment to live in. Nice facilities (on site indoor pool, gym, restaurants) and many opportunities to join interest groups. My living space was prepared to my wishes before moving in and I enjoy care free living in a secure and caring environment. All the staff here are very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. All my neighbors are also very friendly and helpful, and without exception, are very happy to be living at Givens Estates.

My husband and I moved to Givens Estates @ 3 years ago. As former health care analysts/regulators, we knew that we wanted to retire in a life-care community, and we knew that we wanted one that was CARF accredited, non-profit, and preferably faith based. We also knew that as Floridians for 50 years, we wanted to relocate to the southern moutains. Givens met all our criteria and has surpassed our expectations. Particularly during this pandemic, we have experienced exceptional operational leadership, successfully insulating our campus from the virus and meeting our needs in various ways to minimize off campus exposure. The beauty of the campus with over 5 miles of hillside trails and bountiful seasonal native plantings makes our daily walks and hikes a delight. Personal fitness is a priority value and we are pleased with current renovation plans to expand and enhance the wellness/fitness center. And most importantly, the sense of "community" was felt from day 1 thru interactions with other residents and staff, and continues to be the foundation of healthy, contented, and fulfilling life here at Givens!

Our experience with Givens Health Center was disappointing; well below what the better rating had us anticipating. The facility and amenities were nice enough and the floor level care was mostly adequate for the basics. However, our mother (unable to talk) needed an individualized Care Plan, like is promised in their brochures and policies. But we were, in totality, denied any influence into the Care Plan, and denied requested Care Plan meetings to collaborate on better approach options to improve Mom's quality of life. ZERO of our very reasonable adaptations or additions requested (or any alternative that they might have presented) was ever adopted. Once the pandemic related restrictions went into effect, and we could not personally support the care she needed, her wellbeing and alertness fell quickly. We saw disturbing reports (from requested medical records), lost all confidence that our mom's needs were being meet, and decided to bring mom home rather quickly when we were notified she was deteriorating (in bad shape and severely dehydrated). IN the end, we determined that those who had the ability to make different/better choices to support mom's quality of life, for some dishonorable reason (maybe too arrogant or too controlling) would not honor the collaboration promise. Buyer Beware!
