We started out in independent living in 2022 and moved to memory care together in 2024 for my wife. I appreciate having the freedom to go to the wonderful events, meals, church services, and men’s lunches while knowing my wife is being taken care of in a safe environment. The activities Linda puts on for the residences; we know takes a lot of work, and she goes out of her way to communicate to me so I don’t miss out. Shawn and Dave are wonderful when taking the men out to lunch and managing my wheelchair. The leadership here listens to our feedback and genuinely cares about the residents! ~ Richard Schantz

If you are looking for memory care please look somewhere else. The level of care keeps dropping as the prices continue to climb. It is a beautiful facility that caters more to independent living and maybe assisted living. The memory care facility is an after thought. New Perspective pays a lower hourly rate than surrounding communities and it causes a high staff turnover. There are constantly new hires being trained in and it is difficult for residents to get the care they need. Medications are rarely if ever on time, residents often wait 20 minutes or more when they ring for help, no activities to actively engage residents, the restaurant has pretty good food however weekends and memory care meals are often tiny portions and often look like leftovers that are often served cold. During the tour they will dazzle you with a monthly calendar filled with activities and all of the amenities; however, residents in memory care don’t get to access any of the programs unless family members bring them. Even the special Memory Care Calendar is just a cut and paste list of activities that never actually happen because overworked caregivers are too busy. Don’t fall for the fancy facade and feigned sincerity of the management. Once you sign with them everything changes and they are difficult to reach, don’t answer calls or emails and blame everything that goes wrong on corporate policy. If you are looking for an apartment with activities this might be a good fit. However, if your loved one needs dependable care please look somewhere else.

One year ago, I was on a memory care facility search for a family member who has early-onset dementia. We settled on New Perspective and have been happy with that choice. While there are many aspects to consider, I want to call out the personal commitment of the leadership team and the caregivers to create a culture where residents and their families feel like home. They have been flexible with our needs and truly care about our family. The transition for my family member was not easy (our end, not theirs!), but they stuck with us and worked through the challenges to make it a success. Each resident has their own needs, and I see the caregivers flexing to make resident-centered care a priority. I can see in many of the staff I encounter genuine care for each resident and their family members. Having provided that care myself as the disease progressed, I can understand what it takes to make the care a successful experience. As I reflect on this past year, it definitely takes a village, and I could not have provided the care on my own any longer. I am grateful for all that they do to make this phase of life one where we can still create happy memories together.

Everything about this community has been amazing - the friendly staff, residents and delicious food have made this a smooth and pleasant transition for my Dad. Amanda Brown has been incredible to work with and is ahead of every detail with kindness and grace.
November 2025
Amanda Brown, the Director of Sales at New Perspective - White Bear Lake, met with me and my elderly parents last week and led us on a tour of the facilities. I was immediately impressed by how Amanda put my parents at ease, and patiently answered their questions. She skillfully and gently addressed each of their concerns during the meeting and throughout the tour. Amanda quickly built a sincere rapport with all of us, and was incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of New Perspective. We were absolutely wowed by the palpable spirit of community and love that was readily apparent in both the residents and staff, and in the overall design and feel of the private and communal living spaces. The place is truly impressive. My parents, especially my dad, are notoriously slow and wary of making "hasty" decisions, but even to them it was a no-brainer. Without any prompting from me, they agreed just a couple of hours later that New Perspective-White Bear Lake was where they wanted to "run out the 4th quarter." I couldn't be happier and more relieved that my parents will soon be living in a place in which they will be welcomed and enfolded into an authentic, loving community. The transition will be difficult, but I know that when the burden of caregiving is lifted, that they can be at peace and free to form lasting relationships with others and to focus on their own loving relationship. It's a true blessing. It's a testament to the quality of New Perspective as a whole, but most of all to Amanda Brown's passion for pouring herself into making a difference in the world by serving the residents and going above and beyond the call of duty.

I want to recognize this beautiful facility with the most amazing leadership ever. Recently I was able to attend the Veteran's Day Event put on by New Perspectives. The event was honorable and memorable. The thought and effort put forth by their leaders was so rewarding. I have been to many events at facilities. I have not seen an Executive Director that is so involved. Rachel Staven is the ED every facility needs. She leads her team and is present for the residents. I often see Rachel interacting with residents in the lobby. Way to lead your team with heart, Rachel. It is noticed and appreciated!

My daughter visited a plethora of facilities before I came to visit them in person. This New Perspective at the White Bear Lake location definitely made it to the short list for a personal visit by me. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the food is delicious, and the staff are exemplary. The floor plans are generous and storage is bountiful. I moved from Ohio where I had lived all my life to Minnesota so this was a significant move for me. Everything about this facility definitely makes it a new and wonderful home for me. It is like living in an apartment at a country club.

We looked at a lot of places for our Mom to move to when it was time and New Perspective in White Bear Lake was the best choice. It is a beautiful facility with a very friendly community and very supportive staff. The building is well maintained, there is a good variety of accessible activities during the days to stay engaged socially, the homemade meals are delicious, and it is in a great location. Mom has adjusted well and she is happy she selected New Perspective to be her new home.
November 2025
Our Mom started in assisted living and moved to memory care. In between, she had hip surgery and spent a few weeks in transitional care at a facility not affiliated with New Perspectives. During that time, it became clear that NP is where Mom needed to be. Aside from providing top notch clinical care, everyone at NP enjoys what they do and genuinely cares for Mom as if she is part of their own family. They listen to her and know what makes her tick - her likes, dislikes, sense of humor and daily rhythms. Case in point, we dropped by NP while Mom was in transitional care, and multiple staff members expressed concern, asked us how she was doing and if she was getting her daily spumoni ice cream! We are happy and grateful for the level and quality of care that NP provides our Mom.

New Perspective is a beautiful place and the perfect place for my friend. I did not know the rules for getting my friend to take her out to lunch. Although we had to sign in and out, use a code to be allowed in the room and sign in again and walk her to her room, which I asked her and she said no, I totally understand. I know she is looked after by loving people and she is very safe. She is very happy there and I know she is well taken care of. I would recommend New Perspective to anyone needing memory care.

From the moment you walk into the door, there is a feeling of warmth and welcoming. Mother loves her beautiful apartment overlooking the patio and gardens. It’s fun knowing she has options each day whether it be games and puzzles in the activity center, movie night, religious services, exercise in the Wellness center, and meals in the two available restaurants. There is always something going on for the residents at The Water’s. Our mother has gluten allergies. She knew going into the residence meal times would be a bit of a challenge. She didn’t expect the menu to change on her behalf. The last few weeks there has been a noticeable change with the choices she has available. Chef Ryan and the staff are making efforts in order to accommodate my mothers allergies as well as the other residents that have gluten allergies. She has sorely missed her breads, cookies, pizza, gravy and many other foods that contain gluten. Our family would like to thank the staff at The waters for making little accommodations for our dear mother. Thank you for making our mom a comfortable home! Kathy, Jim and Jeanne

The receptionists are very kind and helpful! The building itself is clean and easily accessed. I have shared lunch with a very good friend who’s also a resident and the staff in the dining room is very good. Thank you for taking good care of these exceptional people!

Just moved in a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t be happier with the decision. I’m 62 and Mom is 91; this place will serve both our needs. Lots of services and activities for Mom and it will be easier for me to go and do my own things knowing she is entertained and not alone all the time. Every single staff person I have met is delightfulprofessional, knowledgeable, willing to help however they can with real smiles and great humor. The amenities are well maintained and/or managed. I love the walking path and the biweekly housekeeping! I am really looking forward to settling in to this little community.

I’ve not encountered a staff that has shown more care and compassion. In my experiences with them all have gone above and beyond in their care. From the first time we set foot in the building, greeted by TC, to Shawn from maintenance, everyone we’ve encountered has gone out of their way to be helpful. Not once has a question entered my mind about the level of care and compassion. I cannot say enough positive about the staff!!

We visited the Waters whilst researching the possible relocation of my Mother in Law. What we saw was a beautiful facility, with activities going on in the public rooms and great options for dining in two areas. We were impressed by the fact that there was an underground car park available, which was heated, though of course at extra cost. The accommodation we toured was bright and well sized, with a nice kitchen area to allow residents to be self sufficient. The staff appeared to be very friendly and were able to address the residents by name.
March 2024
My mother has been a resident for 5 months and it has been great. The staff is kind and caring. The facility is clean and well cared for. Safety is number 1. Rachel runs a tight ship and it shows. Great job!
February 2024
Our family could not be more pleased with the care that mom is receiving in the memory care unit at The Waters of White Bear Lake. We receive updates from her doctor and the memory care staff on a regular basis. Should an issue arise we are contacted immediately. If we have any questions or concerns, they respond in a timely manner. Mom has adjusted well and she is comfortable and happy in her new home. I ended up staying with mom for a month in her apartment and was able to get to know the staff and to watch as they interacted with her. Since I live out of state, all of the above has given me peace of mind. Our family made the right decision when we chose The Waters of White Bear Lake.
January 2024
The facility is only exceeded by the staff. They work hard to accommodate the needs of the residents. Every interaction has been professional, but laced with kindness, compassion and patience. We are very happy with the care mom is receiving and are confident she is safe and comfortable and pleased with her new home. Thank you for making this very difficult transition comfortable for all of us!
August 2023
The Waters of White Bear Lake have supported my Dad’s form of independent living for the past 18 months. They provide him with meal choices that are healthy. They listen to his concerns and ours ( his family). The staff pay attention to his way of communicating and acknowledge his day to day self. Thank you to the Waters and their effort to encourage kind and safe independent living for each individual!
August 2023
Staff are kind and caring. Activity department is the best I’ve seen. The regular nursing staff really care about the residents. Administrative staff treat any concerns seriously and promptly.

December 2022
I just attended the Holiday Tree Lighting at The Waters of White Bear Lake tonight. It was sensational!! The staff were so welcoming, the food was excellent and the residents were really engaged...even singing along with the musician. The staff were very focused on the residents by singing and dancing with them. It was so great to see and so much fun.
August 2022
Weird mix of a leadership team. Some are great and some are terrible. The bad ones treat the residents and even their own employees terribly.
March 2022
My parents moved into The Waters of White Bear Lake in Oct. 2018. They loved their spacious apartment and akways felt cared about by the wonderful staff. They also appreciated how clean the beautiful building was kept. The outdoor space just continued to get prettier as the trees and flowering bushes filled out. They liked that they could pick and choose their meals and still cook some on their own instead of getting 3 meals per day automatically. Both of my parents transitioned to the skilled care side of the building when their health declined. The staff made the move as easy as possible and truly provided tender loving care until they passed away. Can't say enough good things about this community!

Good Morning Shelly, I just wanted to send you a quick email to let you know how much I appreciate what you did for my Mom. You went above and beyond to reassure me that she was doing well. Unfortunately COVID-19 struck and the facility was closed to outside people. I don’t know what I would have done if you and the staff had not taken such good care of her. I’m a hands on daughter and it was hard for me not to be there to help her. I don’t know how many times I called you with questions and concerns. But you always took care of everything. I consider you a friend. I feel that you and your staff loved and cared for my Mom as I would have. Zoey, Mercedes, Letisha to name a few , were my saving grace. Thank you just doesn’t seem enough for all of the staff there. You have my utmost respect. I tell everyone I meet what a wonderful job that you do. I hope to see you again someday. You are all angels!!! Love Sherry Guse

Shelley and Heather are fantastic and always there for their residents!! They put true compassion into their work and truly want the best for their residents. Recent changes they have made seems to have been all they needed to really showcase the managers who care about their residents and employees! So many good things happening at this location ™
February 2021
My parents have lived at the waters for about 3 years now. We have certainly had our ups and downs here and my parents were pretty unhappy about 6 months into the pandemic. The problem is that every place else has the same restrictions and The Waters like everyplace else is trying to adhere to and follow the constantly changing guidelines and restrictions. There is also quite a bit of staff turnover but all other assisted living places are facing the same problems. I know this because I have done a lot of checking into other places. My parents ended up getting COVID at no fault of The Waters and the staff at The Waters was so caring, accommodating and understanding in helping us deal with the situation. I could not be more happy in how they have worked with us over the last few months. Now because my parents are living there they are able to get access to a vaccine and I am so grateful for that as well. And.... the food has gotten a lot better over the past few months. . My parents being at The Waters has also given us the opportunity to get the COVID vaccine for which I am extremely grateful. They allowed essential caregivers of residents to get the vaccine. I am so thankful for that opportunity.

My parents have lived at The Waters of WBL for over two years and love it! They like how clean and bright it is, the patio is their favorite place to enjoy the outdoors. The staff are always willing to help and answer questions. They have done a great job of keeping residents safe but engaged during the Covid pandemic. Before and after the pandemic there were/will be many activities to choose from, live music, exercise classes, bingo and many more. The staff go out of their way to make sure the residents are happy and comfortable in their community.
August 2020
I liked this place at first (it’s gorgeous, residents are kind, and the food is good), but that wore off quickly. Nursing staff quality is very poor, especially on weeknights and weekends. We do really love Mary, but none of the other nurses seem to care about their job. They plop memory care residents in front of a tv for what seems like hours and hours. Are we really paying this much money and no one can even take some time to sit and chat with the people they’re supposed to be taking care of? It makes me sick to my stomach. Their food has been great at times and pretty awful other times. We like Julie a lot though, and she’s been around for a while. I think we’ve seen at least 4 or 5 managers come and go through that department just in the last year. Why do they keep quitting? My biggest issue is with their managers. Always rushing out of there by 3 on Fridays, and can they not be bothered to ever come in on weekends? Residents don’t just live there Monday through Friday. They told me they have a manager on duty program, so someone is supposed to be in every weekend, but the reality is that they walk around for an hour or two on Saturday and then leave. They remind me of mean high school girls too. Not professional at all. This place seems great on the surface, but it’s very clear they hope they can make up for their terrible leaders and staff with fake smiles and a popcorn maker. I’m so disappointed.
November 2018
It's a beautiful place built in 2016 and the corner rooms are the biggest..we have looked at many alf's and this was the best..plus they have a nurse on duty 24-7 and most don't...

I came here to get some dishes from a resident. Let me tell you, I was so impressed by this place!! It was clean, fancy, and reminded me more of a five star hotel then a retirement home. The staff was very bright and cheery and the residents all seemed healthy and happy. Each floor was set up to maximize Mobility for the tenants. The hallways we're very open, and one of the neatest things was each door to each unit. There was a little Shelf and an Alcove so that Resident could style the entrance to their unit as they seen fit. It was very nice to see a nursing home that lived up to the standards I've always thought we were able to provide to the elderly. Please put me here if and when I ever need it.

My father lives there.Since he moved in there I don't talk with him anymore.I call almost everyday and leave messages for William sometimes twice a day and they don't even call me back. Before he moved in there I talked with him everyday for 6 years.I will keep trying but I don't think it really matters to the people that work there, they say yes we will get him to call you back I say thank you and no call back.So if you love your family member and you want to keep a relationship with them I would avoid this place.I gave it 2stars because the nurses take care of him everyday so they are ok at Medical.God luck hope that this will get you thinking about putting your loved one there.Your relationship will disappear.Christopher Lang
