As a resident of the Marshes for the past 4 1/2 years, I feel I have the perfect combination of independence and support. I live in a cottage on a beautiful campus and am free to come and go as I please. But I also have the pleasure and convenience of not having to worry about maintenance issues and of being surrounded by delightful people with whom I can share delicious meals, stimulating activities, and exercise options. It is comforting to me and my family to know that if I require more help in the future, the Marshes has an award-winning Health Care Center with skilled nursing, assisted living and rehab therapy. All this is possible because we have such a dedicated, friendly and caring staff. I'm glad I chose the Marshes!

My parents moved to Skidaway in 2019. I cannot tell you how fabulous the Marshes handled the pandemic, watching over everyone, caring for the residents, keeping them engaged and active. The staff is just wonderful - they are friendly, supportive, creative, and hard working. The have created a wonderful environment and community and someday I hope to live there as well!

The Marshes is a beautiful place. When we first visited, the woman that showed us around was very kind and professional. The residents all seemed content and well cared for. The food was really good and all of the staff we met was really kind. Through the years, our perception hasn't changed - it really is a great place to care for your loved ones!

I have lived at the Marshes for a year now and just recently finished 2 months of physical therapy at The Oaks assisted living here. I have had many experiences with physical therapy over the years and found Nathan to be the best ever. Not only did he have an expert eye for my body movements and mechanics but also great knowledge of injuries and surgical outcomes that can affect many other parts of the body. Nathan was kind and encouraging yet strong and determined to push me hard enough to gain strength and flexibility. He is wonderful with us older folks and our special aging needs. I cannot say enough about how great the physical therapy department is here at the Marshes and I am extremely grateful for their excellent help to me.

I cannot sing the praises of the staff at the marshes enough! Mary Coombs (Director of Operations) is one of the most organized and attentive people I have had the pleasure of working with. She understands the needs of the residents and works tirelessly with her staff get things taken care of quickly and effectively! I also have the privilege of working with Don Trahan (Renovations Specialist). He is a rare find! Don has a wealth of knowledge in the construction industry and holds all of the sub contractors to a very high standard of service! If you have any reservations about the marshes, please stop by and meet the staff. You will not be disappointed!

The staff works wonderfully together and really have a community of support from top management down. He has learned and grown so much while employed with this amazing company. I am always hearing about what a great job he is doing and hear great things about the community as whole from residents in Savannah. As new members of the Marshes community (moved in mid-March 2024), we have been wowed by the professionalism, friendliness, and responsiveness of the staff and the open arms welcome of our new neighbors. We now live in one of the cottages on the Marshes' campus-a spacious, high ceilinged, 2 bedroom plus bonus room house that looks out on an unobstructed spectator view of the marsh. Help with normal occasional house related maintenance issues is only a phone call or web based click away. The two dining venues are very attractive and welcoming. The food quality, diversity and service is set at a very high, consistent and satisfying level-it's rather like belonging to a private club founded on exceptional expectations and delivery. In short, the reality of belonging to this community called "The Marshes" is actually transformative.

My family member moved to The Marshes several months ago. The move-in experience and orientation was professional, calm and on-time. The community was instantly welcoming. The home my parent selected is absolutely beautiful and the refreshment and remodeling the staff did was impeccable. Best of all, my parent and siblings have the peace of mind that they are in a caring community that takes its mission to help its residents thrive so seriously. Today my parent can focus on getting the best out of all that is on offer at The Marshes and will never again change a light bulb, wrestle rates with a landscaper or make dinner if they don't want to!

Entertainment opportunities at The Marshes are wide-ranging thanks to an enthusiastic and creative director of Community Life. Just a few of the offerings in April alone are: Motown & More at the Savannah Theater presented by Legacy based out of NYC; the Savannah Music Festival is in full swing with transportation offered to many events; a daytrip to Beaufort, SC; a relaxed low country dinner served on the lawn; evening dining out opportunities to many area restaurants such as The Crown & Anchor and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Each year season tickets to performances of the Savannah Philharmonic performances are offered along with transportation. On campus there are many ways to put a smile on your face by participating in activities such as, Bridge, Bocce, Canasta, Mah Jongg, Book Club, Men's Poker Night, Fitness Classes for every level, Biking, Line Dancing, Walking for Fitness, Water Aerobics . . . . . and the list goes on. Hopefully the picture you are forming is that this is a place to be as busy and as engaged as you wish to be!

To say that the Directors at The Marshes are dedicated to caring for everything that happens here, is an understatement! With their day already fully committed, five of our Directors delivered and served meals, prepared by The Marshes Chefs, to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Their kindness provided comfort, nourishment, and support to these families whose children are hospitalized for medical crises. We are so proud of them and grateful that they are all part of what we call home at The Marshes!

My parents moved into the Marshes during the summer of 2021 when they were both very healthy and young at 80. They immediately loved the community. Less than 2 years later, my mom was diagnosed with brain cancer and died after a valiant 4 month fight. My sister and I could not ask for a more supportive community for our dad to be. The community is full of life and wonderful, warm people. Can't say enough good things!

My mom moved into The Marshes about a year ago, and the place is fantastic! Her apartment is beautiful, fully updated and well-designed with a gorgeous view. There's a lovely little walk to the state park next door. The staff are friendly and professional & the residents are social. There's a nicer restaurant, a cafe, and a cute bar (!!) on the main floor, plus the food is great with plenty of options, so she hardly ever cooks anymore. When there was a health scare, it was a comfort to know that there's a nurse on staff and help with rides to appointments. I told her it feels like living in a resort full-time!

After the passing of my wife, I realized that living alone is not good; I needed to be in an environment where there were friends that I could socialize with on a daily basis. I was living in Cherokee County, Georgia at the time and liked being a Georgia resident. After a lot of Internet searching, I found the Marshes of Skidaway Island. The website described a facility that provided services for my long-term physical health and an environment that would fulfill my socialization needs. One visit was all it took and I was "hooked." I have been here one week and found a facility where every early morning face has a smile on it and a "Good Morning" on the lips. I'm glad I made the move to the Marshes of Skidaway Island.

Whether you are a resident or a staff member, The Marshes of Skidaway Island is the best of the best. The entire campus is gorgeous with fantastic views of the tidal marshes. The level of care is exceptional, and the staff exudes genuine hospitality. The culinary team features some of the best food in the area. When my parents decided to move to the Marshes, I thought they were too young and active and healthy. I supported their decision and trusted my parents when they said they would rather go in early to the Marshes than be too late. I was incredibly impressed with how they were welcomed by residents and staff. The IT people helped them get their technology set up in their home. When my mom got sick in 2023, the staff was caring and helpful. Having on site nursing home care was a gift not only to my dad but to my sister and me as we do not live in Savannah. My sister and I were able to stay with my dad and walk to be with my mom. The staff at the Oaks was amazing to our family. Knowing my dad lives in a community that cares deeply for him is a huge blessing.

We moved into a cottage at the Marshes two months ago and reflecting on the move we have to say the staff and residents couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. As all moves can be quite overwhelming, the staff thought of everything to help ease the process - a timely renovation, resource availability for technology installations (the onsite IT specialists were able to save files from my husbands computer that died one week before the move and then installed his new computer restoring all his files and sanity) and a maintenance team ready to help with such tasks as rearranging furniture, picture hanging and navigating the nuances of a new residence. Concurrently, the residents went to work welcoming us and helping us get integrated in the community. All in all a happy transition. Kudos to all!!!

Over the holidays, my husband and I (along with our two young kiddos) had the pleasure of visiting his parents at The Marshes and staying in one of the guest suites for four nights. When my in laws sold their big house, I wondered about how we could visit and where we would stay (we live far away). Would we really have quality time if we stayed at a hotel 20 mins away? Let me tell you the guest suite was PERFECT! It was so easy to see our grandma and papa AND the suite was clean, had plenty of space - two bedrooms (king and twins), fully equipped kitchen, and came with breakfast in the bistro. A bonus was swimming in the heated indoor pool and my son keeps asking when we can go back. It's gives us such peace of mind to see how happy and confident my in-laws are with their decision to move to the Marshes.

I have lived at The Marshes for a year now and it was the best decision I made. I have some minor health issues but I am doing well now. I stay active by playing golf 3 times a week and participating in the fitness classes offered. I just learned that the Oaks, our assisted living and skilled nursing center, just received a 5 star rating, the highest, from CMS. There were NO deficiencies. This is a remarkable achievement since all evaluations by the government are unannounced visits.

Tucked away on beautiful Skidaway Island yet only miles from Savannah, The Marshes of Skidaway Island offers the best of both worlds. A birding paradise surrounded by marsh and a state park, the community is a dream for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Once inside, the culinary experience rivals the best restaurants in the area. Most important, however, is the genuine care, concern, and support the residents show for the staff and the staff show for the residents. The Marshes is FAMILY!

After retiring twice from previous careers and being bored at home I stumble across an ad for a part time position at the Marshes of Skidaway Island. I wish I had found them earlier in my life. What a beautiful property. The management, the staff and most importantly the residents make the Marshes a wonderful place to work or live. That part time position turned into multiple advancements and a full-time position for the last 10 years. I keep saying I may retire again, but the Marshes keeps pulling me back in. There are so many positive features I could name about our life at the Marshes but I will highlight its near proximity to the beautiful city of Savannah with its symphony orchestra, two fine art museums, an award winning musical festival, fine restaurants and Leopolds ice cream parlor. Add to this a Learning Center which sponsors a series of lectures annually, housed in a historic building downtown but which also offers Monday classes at a nearby church within a five minute walk or less if by car or bike. Add to this I applaud a group of residents who are convinced that a curious mind is still alive and well after 65 and needs stimulation. To this end subjects ranging from study of the U.S Constitution to Shakespeare have been meticulously prepared and presented and a first class Book Club meets monthly. But wait - there is more. Not only do our minds need nourishing but so do our bodies. So we meet friends for a delicious dinner in one of the beautiful dinning rooms of the Island Club where our talented chefs offer us tempting choices from a varied menu! Full disclosure: this is usually preceded by a drink in the bar. This really is a wonderful place to be!

The atmosphere is inviting, spacious, impeccably clean, awesome landscaping, beautifully decorated and nestled in Skidaway island. Most importantly, the staff are caring and eager to please. My Dad really likes it there. The residents are friendly and always eager to ask me who I am visiting and they take the time to chat.. Each time I visit, the concierge remembers my name and everyone there takes such good care of my Dad. The Marshes thought of everything with the best intentions of the residents in mind. Many of us have lived within a few hundred yards of The Marshes at The Landings for many years and can maintain relationships and amenities there on a continuing basis. This permits golf, tennis, dining and personal relationships to continue while living in a different environment. Yet I must add as will be described later the genuine hospitality of The Marshes would permit those with no association with The Landings to find both friends and happiness here. Now, The Marshes is referred to as a Continuing Care Retirement Community or a Life Plan Community - which suggests a health care facility for older people. I prefer to call The Marshes a Health and Hospitality facility since that is the manner in which we are treated. If we face an immediate health issue, we ring and a Nurse appears. If we have been taken by First Responders to a hospital and need a ride home, call and a person whom we probably know comes and picks us up. If we need recovery from an operation, we can go to a health facility for weeks on our campus. But now is the time to add: All of those health care issues are performed as though we were a five star hotel where every employee has a degree in Hospitality. This is true with those who clean our homes, care for the fixtures in our homes and lawns, initiate entertaining programs, prepare and serve the meals we so enjoy - all done with the face of hospitality and the care of a professional. For this time of life, nothing could be improved.

This was the third visit to speak with Denise Beasly. We concluded our meeting by handing her a deposit on the Heron 2nd choice The Cumberland. She is a very solid professional and answered all our questions. She agreed to answer more in the future. WE are very impressed by her attitude and knowledge.

I can't say enough good things about The Marshes. The place is beautiful and beautifully kept up. The food is outstanding. The activities are plentiful and varied. But the most important thing here is the people...both residents and staff. The residents are an amazing group of people. I was concerned when I moved here because I am a bit younger than the average resident, but I quickly learned that age is just a number. Some of my best friends are in their 90's and are active and fun to be with. People really care about their neighbors and reach out with friendship. The staff is beyond awesome. Our Executive Director sets the tone. She is smart, actively involved and always aims for excellence. The rest of the staff, top to bottom, does whatever is needed to make our daily lives the best they can be. C'mon down! We'd love greet another new neighbor!

The Marshes has an outstanding director in Amanda Elliott. This is exemplified in the handling of the Covid 19 pandemic and hurricane evacuations. She is hands on and friendly, as is her staff. Somehow they seem to know everyone's name. The meals are excellent, with a wide variety of choices. Breakfast, lunch and dinners are available. Many fitness options are available, including a gym, pool, and various exercise classes. Keeping the residents healthy is a priority. Socialization is also an important goal. Trips to local restaurants are available, as well as nights at the symphony. Housekeeping does an excellent job, and the grounds are well maintained. Residents can feel safe living here with the security that is in place. Should an emergency arise, security works with the medical people to assess the situation. Since moving here in May of 2019, we have made many friends and we know The Marshes is the place for us.

My husband (now deceased) and I purchased an apartment unit from Amy Blevins in early 2015. I could not imagine living anywhere else now. I don't worry about Hurricanes, bad weather, illness or any of the mundane problems I would have had to face alone had we not moved here. The food is great, housekeeping comes every week, maintenance will do everything from hang a picture to take out a wall; and there is entertainment to amuse anyone who wishes to participate. I was an active and avid bridge player prior to COVID and look forward to resuming sometime this Spring. I really can't say enough good things about The Marshes; everyone is friendly and helpful and willing to go that extra step to be sure you are happy. Thank you to the staff and employees for taking such good care of us!
