I would recommend this place to anyone. Our aunt lived at Buckingham South for 13 years. She entered Buckingham as an active independent resident and remained active until a year ago, when her memory started to slip. She was then cared for as an assisted living resident. A month ago, my aunt was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Rita and the staff helped with Hospice, caring for her until her death at 100 years old. Rita is well-known by the residents and families. She was always willing to discuss and help with what was happening with our aunt. I also, can't say enough 'Thank Yous' to the staff for taking such loving care of our aunt throughout her life.

My family made a big leap when we moved my mother down to Savannah ahead of our move here and settled her into Buckingham South. We knew we would still be four hours away from mom until we were able to make our full move to the area. After being her sole caregivers for almost a decade, we knew we had to chose the facility wisely and feel confident they would provide mom with the personal attention and consideration. for her as an individual she needed. Buckingham South exceeded our expectations. Family is everything at Buckingham South and it's not an exaggeration when they say they treat your family like their family. I always felt like I could reach someone to talk about mom and they would know her personally. I always felt that the staff was super familiar with my mother. Her needs, her personality, her fears, likes and dislikes. I felt communicated with, listened to, and that we were always working together to best serve my mother's needs. My mother was a tough cookie, she was someone who was reluctant to trust and had many fears as she aged and became more frail. The staff at Buckingham South was able to reach my mom and make her smile, get her to participate in art classes, make friends and trust people. We lost my mother recently and I know with my whole heart that we placed her in the perfect place for the final year of her life. She was loved there. I am grateful that her final days were spent with the family at Buckingham South.

I am writing this review of Buckingham South after their recent care of my wife who died October 4. Buckingham South provided an extraordinary care experience that was beyond what our family would have ever expected. I have a 40-year history as an owner/operator in the home care and assisted living industry, so I can write with some authority about the commitment and the dedication of Rita Slatus, her family and the staff to give the best care possible. My family and I tried to care for my wife Laura Lynn at home for many months before bringing her to Buckingham South. With all of our experience, we believed that home was the best place for her. As her condition worsened, we realized that we were not able to give her the full care she needed. Within a few days of Laura Lynn moving to Buckingham, it was evident to all of us that her care was nearly perfectly coordinated and managed. I wish that we had moved her there sooner. The love and care she received from the staff exceeded all expectation. Our family visited my wife often at Buckingham, and we saw that the other residents were also happy to be there. Of all of the facilities I have seen, none compares to the Buckingham experience, and I will always in the future refer Rita, her daughter Sabrina and Buckingham South to any person who needs care for themselves or a family member. Savannah is lucky to have Buckingham South. I wish every community in Georgia could have a Buckingham.....Martin Mill

My family moved my uncle down from NY in the beginning of Covid in 2020. We were so very lucky to find out about Buckingham South and to learn that there was an available room. Thomas received excellent care from the nurses and caregivers, and Rita does an amazing job coordinating the whole facility. Thomas was always treated well and we are so glad that he was able to stay at Buckingham through all of his stages, even hospice at the end. I would recommend Buckingham South to all friends and family. Thanks to everyone there for taking such good care of Thomas!

Once my mother in law knew her health was on the decline she did a ton of research to figure out where she wanted to spend her days in hospice. When it was time to move into Buckingham South they welcomed her, made her feel comfortable, adjusted her room to her liking and did what they could to make her comfortable for the final month of her life. She couldn't take advantage of the activities or community due to her condition, but they brought her food, stopped in the room, helped her with her basic needs and medications. Things got more difficult as she progressed but the staff was very familiar with the challenges of this phase of life. Though it was so hard for me to experience, their ease and confidence helped keep me calm. When the time came for her to pass they sat by her side and held her hand. Rita and her team were exactly what my mother in law needed and I am so grateful for the care and love they shared with her during this hard transition. While there, my mother in law kept saying she has a "golden cloud" shining down on her and she couldn't be more please with her choice to be at Buckingham. Isn't that wonderful? I am so glad. Thank you Buckingham South.

I moved my mother down from WV in 2018 after her cognitive status declined and she could no longer live independently. We first had her at Rivers Edge Independent living with a sitter during the days. She began wondering at night so we moved her to the Oaks on Skidaway. She was at Rivers Edge for 2.5 years and only the Oaks for 3 miserable months. We could not sleep thinking she would be neglected there another day. In November of 2020 we moved mother to Buckingham South after touring almost every assisted living in Savannah. I am an Oncology Nurse Practitioner and my husband is a physician so we are not naive to care issues. From the first time I met Rita Slatus and her family, I knew mother was in good hands. She has been treated well by everyone from housekeeping to meal service to activities. They truly get to know patients as individuals in a way that a corporate run facility can not. We are very secure in our decision to have mother here because I come at all hours and often find staff chatting with my mom and spending that extra time with her that makes all the difference. Our 93-year-old mother was devastated when her doctor said she needed to move to an assisted living facility. Finding a place Mom liked was difficult and she was extremely depressed, anxious and didn't smile for weeks. But as soon as Mom walked through the front doors of Buckingham South and met Rita, the owner, and Ruby, the therapy dog, her face lit up with a huge smile. Buckingham South is a premier assisted living facility where the staff understands the needs of their residents. Rita, Sabrina, and the rest of the staff made certain mother's transition to assisted living was welcoming and seamless. Mom feels loved and is once again vibrant and happy. She smiles, enjoys meeting new people, attending the activities and raves about the delicious meals in the Dining Room. The staff knows where she is at all times and checks on her regularly making certain she safe and happy. They notify her of the upcoming activities and ensures she doesn't miss a meal. Mom loves Buckingham South and now realizes how isolated she was living in her house. She calls Buckingham South her new "home".

My mother moved into Buckingham seven months ago. The care she has received at Buckingham has increased her health and well being, and helped her adjust to life outside of her home of 50 years. In addition, the month she moved in also was the month her husband of 63 years passed away. The care and concern they shared through her grieving, and continued support of her has made a huge difference to her and her family. Some areas that amaze me, the focus on activities for the residents. The engagement of the residents together as a community and family. I also am impressed that the management of Buckingham conducts a regular community meeting to understand resident request and requirements. Thank you to you all!

My mother was at Buckingham for very close to 6 years. She died recently at 100 years of age. She readily admitted that if she had not been at Buckingham she would have died 5 years earlier. The people at Buckingham are very caring and were attentive to all my mother's needs. Mom enjoyed the friendly staff and the other residents. Mom was very social, and Buckingham provided her a busy and stimulating environment. Buckingham was also very welcoming to Mom's 2 cats.

During their years there, they formed great friendships, had active social lives, and truly enjoyed the daily activities. As a family, we always felt confident they were being well cared for. Rita and her staff are some of the most wonderful and kind people I have met. In my mother's last year, her hallway caregiver, Mel, was practically a family member. Rita, her family, and the entire staff there have created an environment where my parents found happiness, comfort, and peace. We will always be grateful for Buckingham South.

I want to say how impressed I was with Buckingham South & especially Ms RITA who is an Angel. She really has a wonderful gift to care for the residents. My mom was only there for a short while but the experience we had was made memorable because of Ms RITA. I can say that Ms RITA works long hours night & day. She was always there smiling & she always knew everyones name & what was going on. It's a very well run family business with long caring hours. You can tell they really care about all the residents. My mom passed away peacefully, holding my hand at Buckingham on my birthday 9/12/21. Mom was put on Hospice after leaving hospital & I never left her side and Ms RITA was so very understanding to allow me to be there constantly with my mom. It meant so much to have those days & moments just holding my mom's hand, talking about things, listening to music, praying together. Saying I LOVE YOU more times than I can count. My momma was a fighter, but she grew tired at age 77 with CHF. & being in n out of 12 hospitals in just one year. But then With COVID 19 restrictions & Lockdowns I was so afraid mom would pass away ALONE. Like so many loved ones did in hospitals­ since COVID. The last time in hospital hospice was called in. That was something I don't think I was prepared for.... Anyways, I witnessed my mom see her Angel waiting to take her to the other side..... my moms mom (who passed 14 yrs ago) it was peaceful when the Lord took mom home and my faith is reassured that one day I will see mom & my granny again! I want to THANK YOU MS RITA for your compassion, kindness, warm heart & beautiful words you shared with me the night ( my birthday) my momma passed. My wife and I just left Buckingham South after visiting my 93 year-old mother for the weekend. She's been at this facility since 2012 and quite frankly I don't know where else we could've gone to get better attention and service. This professional upscale facility goes above and beyond as far as we can tell for every resident. Every time we come to visit mom tells me how great the food is in the dining room, what great care the nurses give on her floor and how much she appreciates the housekeeping department that comes in and takes care of everything just like she likes. It makes us so happy to see her happy. And we believe that's mostly due to the staff and the services that she's offered. I highly recommend Buckingham South to anyone for their loved ones.

A lovely caring and loving environment for those who need assisted living at any stage. As our father progressed from independent living through his final days, he was treated with kindness and understanding. The family at Buckingham South guided us though the processes and bureaucracy as Dad became more ill and needed higher levels of care. Those at Buckingham who work with the residents are truly kind and provide the highest level of professionalism, IMO. Because Buckingham is a smaller, more intimate facility than other independent and assisted living facility, there is a true feeling of family. Activities abound, fascinating and intelligent residents for making friends and making a community for Dad, and privacy, quite and peace when residents want that. I cannot recommend Buckingham South strongly enough as a place that ensures residents are truly taken care of at all stages of living.

Looks can be deceiving! This is the best senior living place around! We brought Mom to Savannah because of the pricing compared to around Atlanta. Unfortunately we had her in another facility until we found Buckingham. What a difference this place is! They are so compassionate, the staff are ALL great! My mother came to Buckingham after severe neglect from 2 other facilities. Her legs and hands were swollen and she was overmedicated with drugs. Immediately due to the fabulous low salt, and high quality food, mom's swelling went away. Mom was engaged in activities and ate in the dining room. Mom became more alert and more of her personality came out. Buckingham feels like a family. Mom unfortunately broke her leg, due to complications from a previous facility. Buckingham went over and above to make phone calls and help us find a great rehab option. We are returning back home to buckingham and cant wait for mom to get back. Rita is a wonderful administrator with a heart of hold for her patients. She has high expectations for her staff. We love it there. It is a perfect fit for us.

The transition was made right before the COVID-19 pandemic, so the closure of the facility to outsiders has been difficult for all. The staff, led by Rita, has remained professional and caring during these difficult times. Rita's leadership during this COVID-19 crisis has exuded confidence and excellence to all those working at Buckingham, to all the residents at Buckingham, and of course, to all the families who depend on Buckingham to take care of their loved ones. My Mother, Ann Miltiades moved to Buckingham South in April, 2015. Rita Slatus, her family and staff helped make this a smooth transition, and Mom loves her home. They have seen her through a hospitalization and recovery from a broken hip, and most recently a heart attack. On April 2, Mom went to Rita not feeling well, and after a while, Rita called for the EMTs. Mom's vitals were fine, and the emergency responders didn't think she needed to go the hospital. Of course, Mom didn't want to go either! Rita insisted and it turns out Mom was having a heart attack! We are grateful to Rita for taking such good care of Mom and thankful that she is now back at Buckingham in a safe and loving environment. Evelyn Forman

My closest relatives, who are both age 94, have been living at Buckingham Square for over a year now. I could not be happier with the level of care and love they are receiving. Their health care is complicated and challenging and the staff at Buckingham go to great lengths to make sure their needs are met. They also encourage them to get involved in the extracurricular activities. I live 500 miles away and can only visit every few months but I am in constant communication with their caregivers so I feel very close and well informed. Buckingham Square gets my highest recommendation and without any reservations.
