This is not a luxury facility in my humble opinion. The spaces left me claustrophobic. You have to walk from your residential location to the clubhouse for any activities. That's a negative for me. Unfortunately I am not interested in this location. That said our tour guide was lovely, personable and informative.

Things look good on the surface, but on closer inspection the property is shabby and the staff is barely knowledgeable. The food is mediocre and the dining area overlooking the pool is dark and cold. No warm lighting, no soft music coming from the speakers. It's all very institutional..

My mother was a resident of the Meridian at Lake San Marcos for 3.5 years and she absolutely LOVED it!!! The staff were always professional and truly caring! The amenities and activities are too numerous to detail and incredibly PHENOMENAL! I highly recommend and consider the Meridian the BEST in Southern California as I have had the opportunity to experience several! Director Austin I. and his entire Staff are INCREDIBLE!!!

This place is ok overall, but not 5 stars. They take advantage of old people by promising them 5 star gourmet food and ultimately serve up slop. I have a family member living here and in the past 3 years or so they haven't ever served bacon. Chef Mark is no longer around but his food was simply gross. In no way is the food gourmet as it states in the sales contract. It's a scam to call it gourmet. Merriam dictionary states gourmet as "Definition of gourmet (Entry 2 of 2) : of, relating to, or being high quality, expensive, or specialty food typically requiring elaborate and expert preparation a gourmet meal gourmet cooking a gourmet chef/restaurant" On top of this the outdoor furniture is old and cracked and needs replaced. Treat people kindly and with good karma. Quit being cheap about things and bring in a true chef to replace Brad. Also, the exorbitant rental rate increases were 6% the last time. That's crazy. The other 5 star reviews on here are by people who put in for a raffle. You only win the raffle if you put up a 5 star review. I don't want to win a raffle, I want the owners and management to take care of the people who are taking care of them.

It is my distinct pleasure to recognize the tremendous professionalism, diligence and dedication of Dina Scalia, Activity Director at the Meridian Lake San Marcos. I speak as someone who not only observes Dina's contributions first hand but also as one who interacts on a regular basis with The Meridian residents. In addition to conducting weekly chapel services there I'm also a professional entertainer interacting with residents in a casual setting. The satisfaction is evident. A recent example of Dina's "above and beyond" concern for the welfare of her residents will illustrate: The lockdown implemented due to Covid-19 concerns stopped all personal interactions from outside of the community. Ever seeking to serve, Dina immediately approached me with the (brilliant) idea to virtual broadcasts of both the chapel service and sing-along piano entertainment. They are able to transmit these broadcasts to 100% of the residents. I'm happy to report this has been a great success in allowing her residents to stay connected during a very difficult and challenging time. Of the 20+ communities I routinely perform for, Dina's residents are the amongst the happiest and most contented and I am convinced it is owing directly to her comprehensive approach to the well-being and happiness of these dear souls. The Meridian at Lake San Marcos is most fortunate to have her!

I have performed piano for the residents of the Meridian at Lake San Marcos for almost the past year, and I can say with conviction that this is one of the most pleasant senior apartments in San Diego. They treat their residents with care and respect, and I can tell after meeting and speaking with several of their residents that they have loads activities. In particular, their assisted living director Dina Scalia has taken a keen interest in providing a variety of enjoyable options for them. She even graciously hired me to give "virtual" concerts for their residents during this difficult and sensitive time of health conciousness. Additionally, it's a beautiful community—first rate all around.

I have been a resident at the Meridian for about 4 to 5 years , and would like to share the things that I enjoy about living here. I work closely with the Activity Director Dina Scalia and her team as a liaison for the Activity Department. I have always kept busy with helping to set up for programs prior to the Covid -19, as well as participating in the many group programs offered. Currently the Activity Department is keeping us safe and busy with great things offered such as, Activity room service slips, where we are able to request in room options such as a book, a puzzle, or a visit with a team member. There is also an in house channel, where residents are able to still enjoy the music of Meridian entertainers right in our apartments on our TV. Also broadcasted in our apartments in daily exercise videos done by the Activity Team, concerts and movies. The calendar reflects when to tune in to the in house channel to enjoy these programs. I really look forward to Fridays, it is called Fun Cart Friday where the Activity Team comes around to each and every apartment with fun themed items and music. On occasion, during the month, I enjoy the ice cream and the cheese and cracker & wine. Wii Bowling is my favorite activity, currently we are unable to come to the Clubhouse to enjoy this game with other residents, so the Activity Team came to my apartment, set up the Wii Bowling in my home and now I stay busy playing it daily, even with visits from activities to play a game with me. I have to say that Dina Scalia is a terrific Activity Director. Launa is a great Executive Director and works hard for the residents that reside here as well as her staff. I am just so happy to live here.

Austin Irwin is a Super Hero ! My sister moved to Meridian a few weeks ago and thanks to all of Austin's help has settled in quite nicely. This was not a move that was taken lightly. She had downsized from a large and lovely home in Encinitas, to a smaller rental house, until she had a chance to decide which retirement community would best suit her needs. We visited NUMEROUS places in the San Diego area ~ and I think she came to see Meridian 3 times..just to be sure that this would be a good fit. Personally I can't tell you how many times I called Austin and how many questions I asked, not only for myself, but for Sandy. Once her decision was made ~ he made sure everything fell right into place. She has a 'room mate' ~ her beloved dog Zip who never missed a beat, was welcome, and has also become quite comfortable in her new surroundings. Understandably, these are not the ideal times in which to make a move like this - but Austin and Meridian have made a challenging situation 'doable' with their understanding, support and professionalism. Forever grateful ~ My sisters happiness and comfort mean the world to me. A million thanks.

In searching for an appropriate place to retire and cut my expenses as well as my responsibilities, I inquired at Meridian and several other similar places. After touring several places, I was confident that Meridian was the best choice. Fine appointments, friendly staff, very nice amenities, good food and a reasonable location. I was introduced to Austin Irwin and Shawn McGuirk, who were responsive to phone calls and very friendly and knowledgeable. I decided that I would like to move in, but there was no space available. A year later, Austin called me with the message that there was a suitable space, and I took it. Austin has been invaluable in assisting me in moving in, and getting settled (no easy task!) He is a tireless worker, and clearly likes his job, his residents, and takes pride in his job! The Meridian is dog friendly, and I moved in with my Welsh Corgi, and she is settling in nicely, also. I can recommend the Meridian and its helpful staff. If you or your loved one are seeking a nice place to retire, I urge you check out the Meridian at Lake San Marcos!

Extra special thanks to Chef Mark Cronkhite for going above and beyond to help me out. My parents live in the lovely Meridian at Lake San Marcos. My Mom turned 85 years old and I emailed The Meridian and asked if I could order a special small cake for my Mom so that she and my Dad could share it during this quarantine time. Chef Mark was very responsive and took very good care of my request and personally delivered the cake to my Mom. My parents both always enjoy when they can see and talk to Mark so this meant even more. Thank you Mark for making this happen since we live 2 1/2 hrs away and are restricted from visiting during this time. I also want to thank Launa Cornell and the rest of her wonderful team. The staff is all providing so many extra special personal touches for the residents and it doesn't go unnoticed. My parents appreciate the daily puzzle being delivered, the themed trays/drinks on the cart that are delivered, special activities and just being there when something is needed. The residents don't feel lonely because of all of the extras The Meridian provides to them. These are very tough times during quarantine but the staff remains helpful and provide such quality service and with a smile. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you all more than you could ever know. Keep up the great work. You are all essential!
