EDIT June, 2026: Ivy Park has careened downhill over the last few months. The staff still remains wonderful, but the problem is that Ivy Park is understaffed. They're bringing in more residents but not hiring the support staff to meet those needs. More and more I'm finding my mother sitting in her own urine and excrement, her bed smelling of the same, unmade. I hope management is willing to hire more staff to meet the demand for it, because I've become deeply disappointed. Having said that, I remain pleased with the staff, who are wonderful people. I just wish they had more help. ORIGINAL REVIEW: My mom is so happy here. I looked at lots of places around Los Angeles trying to find the perfect spot for Mom. I originally had her at the Atria in Pacific Palisades, and she was happy there and the staff was friendly and professional. After the fire, I was on the hunt again, and this time I had a clear sense of what I was looking for “ a place that Mom could consider home. As soon as I walked in to Ivy Park Playa Vista, I was pretty sure I found that. As I toured it I was even more certain. The vibe was friendly and welcoming with a sense of fun. And that’s exactly how it’s been. (Special shout out to Keishonna who takes such good care of my mom. Mom beams when she sees her.) The day-to day in-the-weeds staff is excellent. It feels like a family. My concern is with management. In the eight months my mom’s been there, there have been 3 management turnovers. One change resulted in billing chaos “ suddenly we were being overcharged for everything. We eventually solved that problem but I definitely don’t recommend putting the rent on autopay. What worries me most is that management doesn’t seem to understand how strong their staff really is. They may not all have years of experience, but they make up for that by being present and attentive. In an assisted living community, the staff is everything. I want Mom to feel like she knows these people as people. It’s what makes her feel happy and safe. But it feels like management wants something else entirely. I hope they figure it out because I’d hate to see more of my favorite day-to-day people leave. I also wish they’d have more musicians play. They feel a little over-reliant on their interactive TV screen activities, which is something Mom doesn’t enjoy much. When the musicians come, they’re very popular, so I don’t understand why they don’t have them come more often. If you’ve never seen assisted living residents and staff belting out Sweet Caroline, you haven’t fully lived. Mom also loves the community of Playa Vista. It’s really easy to take her around in a wheelchair because everything is flat, and there are lots of parks and dogs and kids. They have summer concerts, and dog costume parades, it's fun. She always says if she could live her life over again, she’d be a young person living in Playa Vista! I recommend Ivy Park Playa Vista because of both the surrounding community and the internal community. Mom’s the happiest she’s been in a long time. I hope management solves whatever problems they're having.

Playa Vista is a wonderful outstanding community. Their staff is very accommodating and really go out their way to make sure their seniors have the best care, and that they have all that they need to live their best lives. Sabrina, I cannot thank you enough for your patience helping us move our family member into the community. She’s the community director and she’s a hands on director, she was with us every step of the way. Her help put our concerns at ease and we’re very happy that we went with this community.

This community is absolutely fabulous! From the moment you walk in you can feel the vibrance and warmth. I got to see first hand how amazing the staff are and how committed they are to creating a loving and caring home. Arrie, the activities Director always has the residents engaged, happy, and looking vibrant. Sabrina the executive director has truly created something magical and special here. Her entire team has a fire for life and love they can be felt even when u leave the community. Leslie the sales director is so gentle in her approach and how she communicates. She is always helpful and kind. If you or someone you know is interested in a new home I recommend you come see Leslie. Ted, the nursing director, and Jackie, the wellness nurse are so committed to the residents here. They really care about the wellness of each person here and about the culture of the care team.

I went here for a tour of the community as I am considering placing my grandmother in a home I have to say this is one of the nicest senior living communities I have ever visited. The residents seemed very happy every one of them that I came across. Staff was cheerful attentive and kind. Memory Care are in the two center floors each one with its own balcony area where the residents have small potted gardens. The rooms are fairly spacious however it seems the residents spend most of their time in the common areas engaging in fun activities. The food cooked there on site made to order for every resident is delicious. They served me chicken cacciatore which I have to say was perfectly cooked absolutely tender and delicious. The sales lady I met with named Dana was an absolute delight. She had a tremendous amount of positive energy she was all smiles and every resident we passed make sure to tell her hello or give her a hug. This community is what I would consider the Apex of senior living. It is also worth mentioning that they are just across the parking lot from a fire department meaning they have one of the fastest response times for any emergency care that they should require which is a mere 17 seconds. If you are considering putting your parent in a home and you want them to be happy and comfortable you definitely need to consider Sunshine assisted living. If you go to visit there I'm sure you'll be just as pleased as I was. I cannot stress enough how wonderful of a place this is. Five stars all the way.

I cannot thank the wonderful staff at Sunrise Playa Vista enough for the care they are providing to my mother. She has advanced Alzheimer's disease but is physically active which makes her a challenging resident. Thankfully, the staff on her reminiscence floor are well skilled and know how to deal with her level of disease. They provide my mother with both physical and cognitive options throughout her day. For example, my mother was a housewife that loved to cook and bake and they let her help in the kitchen which makes her feel useful and needed. In addition, she is part of their walking club and goes on several walks every day, plays bingo and participates in senior bowling. My mother is safe, well cared for and adjusting very well to her new home. The Executive Director, Shannon, and the Reminiscence Director, Barbara, are truly extraordinary women that are compassionate and hands on. Barbara has helped me so much and been such an active part of getting my mother's needs met. I cannot thank her enough. This quality leadership is reflected in the care givers and staff that work so hard with all of the residents. Every time I set foot onto that 4th floor I see happy, well cared for residents engaged in meaningful activities. I think the biggest compliment I can give Sunrise Playa Vista is moving my father into their assisted living community. He recently suffered some health problems and needs 24 hour care. Because of the positive experience with my mother's care , Sunrise Playa Vista was the obvious choice!

After exhaustive years long effort to persuade a close relative to consider assisted living, circumstances changed and the option was no longer a choice. Several hospital stays, rehab care, and countless professional's suggestions to consider assisted living led us to Sunrise Playa Vista. The staff involved with introductory tours/application and assessments were exceptional in their professional attention, in their respect for the diagnosis the family was facing. Memory care requires an amazing amount of patience from family with an affected patient. Memory care involves ALL concerned, caregivers, patient, family and friends. Sunrise Playa Vista staff are very well trained, knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate and consistently aspire to protect the dignity of the residents, and take the time answer concerns of those responsible for their family member. We've had opportunity to see our relative thrive at Sunrise. The appearance, the spirits, the over-all health, nutrition, cleanliness, increased socialization, every aspect of daily living needs, are addressed, consistently, in a most individual and orderly fashion. Guests or residents who walk in the front door are greeted with the same kindness and demeanor by ALL the staff, from administration, to caregivers, and each and every staff person. During my visits I spend time on the entry level, and it is very comfortable for residents choosing to have a quiet reading spot, or dine in the on-site restaurant, or walk about, or sit on the patio. The memory floor is attentive (always) to the various & changing needs of the residents. Our family has visited often, and we are all grateful for the opportunity to have our family member reside at Sunrise Playa Vista.

My 96 year old mom moved into Sunrise in Playa Vista several months ago. Never did I think that my mother would ever live in an 'old age home.' Memory issues, functional decline, confusion.... but still wants to be relevant and be with her family. She had a year long history of falls and several painful visits to the emergency room and rehab. She moved into my house with caregivers 24/7. It was ok, but stressful seeing my mom so fragile and slipping away. My brother and I, with extreme reservation, visited most every assisted living community located close enough to my house so visiting her would be easy....minimal traffic. Sunrise and two others were low on our list because of the cost. Bottom line... After spending time at other places, Sunrise was our choice.... Yes, the sales presentation was first class... everything was presented to us clearly and all our questions were professionally addressed.... and mom moved in. Normal fears and concerns... did we do the right thing? Will Sunrise Caregivers be good and understanding when my mom becomes confused and needy? What about her falls? Meds? This is the tip of my iceberg. Mom is on the Memory Floor... come visit! This is community at it's finest. Every single resident is pampered properly. The wonderful Caregivers have so much patience and understanding for each resident. It's like a community and they all support one another in the care of our parents and grandparents. I know there are always issues and the occasional crisis.... some drama or situation. I've witnessed the good and the not so fortunate situations. I visit mom almost every day. I see a lot. What I see is that my mom is treated the way my mom should be treated. She has never complained to me about any staff member... quite the contrary. Every time I visit, she tells me about who did something wonderful for her... like doing her nails, brushing her hair... just sitting on the terrace talking... helping her choose her lunch or dinner choice.... The gentle Caregivers that help her in the shower... always something nice. By vocation, I'm a Rehab Therapist... many years seeing patients in all facilities and settings, and I swore my parents would never step foot into any building. Sunrise is really a benchmark building, community, whatever you want to label it. I walk in to visit my mom hoping for a good visit. I leave later knowing my brother and I did the right thing.

My mother was in the Memory Care ward here for over 5 years. They took good care of her and we were also vigilant to ensure she got the care she needed and deserved. In April, I sent my Mom a birthday card. She passed away in October. Shortly after she passed, I got her birthday card back in the mail marked "Return to Sender". It had been delivered to the facility but never got to her six months before. It was painful that she never got my card, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Now in November, I received her Mother's Day card back Return to Sender that was post marked in May. That really hurt. two cards I sent. Postmarked and delivered marked return to sender 6 months later. I guess the staff could not find it in their hearts to give mail to one of their residents. Sad she did not see my cards. Since she was in the memory care, the physical card with a handwritten personal message would have been a surprise for her each time she read them. I must say that I am terribly disappointed in the staff and hurt that the cards never got to her.

These folks take great care of my father-in-law. He has lived here for more than two years now, slipping deeper into dementia. There's nothing that neurologists can do for him, but there's a huge amount of help that he receives from the Sunrise care managers and staff! From physical therapy and massage to podiatry services to prescription medication management to gracious basics like good food, cleanliness, and treating him with dignity, we are so happy with Sunrise Playa Vista. (I won't write about the place he left in order to come here.) I wish I could mention all the standout staff by name in this review, but I'm writing it off the top of my head, and there are so many great people there, I could rattle off ten names easily, but forget another ten significant servant-hearted professionals, so I won't even try. Besides, I need to get back to work. But first, these folks and their whole organization have earned these five stars and more! Thanks for all your love and care for GPD.
