I met with Darlene last Saturday, the marketer at Playa, while exploring care options for my loved one. Although we chose to bring him home, Darlene was patient, knowledgeable, and truly compassionate, even working on a Saturday. She took the time to answer our questions and reassured us that we could always return if we needed help. That gave our family real peace of mind. If the rest of the staff is like her, I would feel very confident placing my loved one here.

I would have given this place one star, save for some of the great people who work there (Chris, Jesus, Linda, Marilee, Yolanda, Aldo, Emily, Raynesha, Ashley, Rit.) It was disorganized from Day One - there was pretty much no intake process, and we had to ask a bunch of questions to get basic information (meal times, what type of clothes to bring, etc. etc.) The administrator was there intermittently, and the staff never knew when she would be in, or the social worker. Whoever said it smelled was correct - an unidentified mix of bodily fluids as soon as you walk in. We had to ask multiple times for my father to get his medicine on his regular schedule. We had to ask multiple times for a CNA to change him or move him to the wheelchair so he wouldn't be in bed all day. No one seemed to be the source of truth of who was working and where they were at any given time. Showers are only twice a week, and they skipped him AND tried to blame it on him refusing - not realizing I had been there the whole time and knew they hadn't come to get him. So they wanted him to wait several more days before getting one because they "preferred to stay on the schedule" (regardless of him not being clean.) He had a rattling, productive cough and they ordered an X-ray, which they said showed nothing. Instead of pushing the issue, they gave him cough syrup. Everyone knows cough syrup does nothing but mask the underlying condition. His roommate was suffering from a broken tooth, and had to beg to see a dentist and ask multiple times for his meals to be changed to something he could eat. If we hadn't been there to advocate for him, I don't know what would have happened. It's a shame because there are some great people who work there and it's conveniently located, but they only got their act together when someone called the ombudsman and they knew the Health Department was coming for an inspection.

My SistaFriend & I arrived a little early for our allotted appointment, the staff checked us in, asked questions as required by their job. Very professional and nice. We were escorted to our love one room and he was surprised to see us. Staff help keep the secret friends from LA and Texas was coming to visit. Best time of my 3 day vacation while visiting hometown of Los Angeles. The staff also gave us required face masks due to Corona Virus to put on and the site was clean and I didn't smell anything out of place. Take care, Brenda from Texas.

PlayaDelRey Center is a new nursing home, but the staff is professional, friendly, and caring. My Sister was moved here, after not doing well in Asisted Living, and she has had great improvement and likes it here. She also says the food is much better. The building is in the process of remodeling soon, and I look forward to seeing the changes.

My dad, Bob Martz, was a patient there for about 3 months. He just passed March 12, but at hospital. Staff at PDR was VERY attentive and caring of my dad. 3 strokes and not much hope, but they never gave up on him...April, CeeCee, Rose Mary, physical therapy, all gave dad excellent care. He got eye checkup, ear cleaning, toenails trimmed and haircuts....all scheduled services! Yes, it's a nursing home, but the place is clean, good food, great care! Thank you! Also, fyi, ice is in an ice chest but on a rolling cart so it can be easily brought to each room. Great idea, and certainly not a negative.

Anyone who is looking for excellent care for their loved one and/or family member should not hesitate to use Playa Del Rey Care and Rehabilitation! My Auntie was a patient for 3 months here recently and was fully nursed to health from pneumonia and a small stroke, just to mention a few of her ailments. She was treated with respect and care by very kind staff who, obvious to us, were devoted to their jobs! (Lillian, Brenda, Pie, Monique, Frank, Sandra, Erica, Cecil and many others as well). I don't think you could find another facility that has a staff who truly cares about the patients. This review written by Jean and Charlotte.
