A great place to retire. We are kept involved in life regardless of our interest or abilities, in other words, you can stay busy and learn new skills. We have found many new friends and discovered some friends from several years ago. Such a good choice for retirement for us!

Friendship Village is a fun, active, peaceful, safe community for Seniors (and their 4- legged pals, as there is a great dog park.) There are many activity options including arts and crafts, cards, happy hours, music, but also so many quiet places to sit and read. There are lovely water features/fountains sprinkled throughout. The library on property has an amazing classic section as well as current and just published periodicals. And don't even get me started on the food and dining options! Friendship Village is the place to be!

I am so fortunate to work at Friendship Village Tempe. Our employees are so kind and dedicated to serving our residents, their guests and each other! As great as the employees are, it's the residents that are the best part of the village! The spirit and culture of the community is like nothing I've ever experienced or knew was a possibility. It truly is amazing how rewarding it is to work at a place that has such a life of it's own. It is a privilege to work here and care for such wonderful people.

My father in law was here for comfort care as he passed in their hospice program. The nurses told us everyday about treatment and how he did while we were not there. We were allowed to bring my father in laws dog so he got to spend time with him before he passed. Our loved one was always clean hair brushed and gown changed, he was always comfortable and happy there. When the time did come and he did pass the nurses were there very quickly and verified he had passed and provided hugs and talked to us and helped with the plans to have him transported and gave us a enough time with him until we were ready to have him moved. During hospice care you are free to go anytime, stay the night or do check ins. I would tell anyone who needs a loved one to be taken care of to use this facility

Friendship Village Tempe is hands-down the best place I have ever worked! I have been here 7 1/2 years, but many of my co-workers have been here 20+ years, which says a lot about the environment. The leadership is amazing. We have a very clear mission to take care of our Residents, and we take it seriously. What I never imagined was how they also want to take care of us. It's like a big, happy family. As a matter of fact, this place is so special that I convinced my father to become a Resident--the best decision ever!!!

Big shout out to the employee and residents of Friendship Village you guys are wonderful. I enjoy working with people who care about our elderly. And I enjoy seeing our residents enjoy casual conversations with each other have fun in a safe environment where it's nice and clean. This is an amazing place to live one day if I could afford it. It definitely makes me think about my future and what it can look like if I work hard to get a spot here. I've been telling people from church and my older relatives about how awesome it is. Also I have told people what a great place it is to work for.

I have been a team member of friendship Village for nearly two years and I cannot say enough good things about the people that live and work there. Friendship Village has taught me so many things about community, culture, service and compassion. This past year has been such a trying time for all of us. However, the efforts by the staff and residents of Friendship Village is so inspirational, each day I feel blessed to be apart of this great community. If you are thinking about a change in employment or a place to reside, I encourage you to take a look before making your decision.

One aspect of Friendship Village is the amazingly supportive staff! Recently, they have helped us outside mount a bicycle rack on our car; they have (as they were passing by) helped us unload a large chest from out car and carry it into our cottage; most recently they carefully removed a day bed, springs and mattresses from our cottage and moved it to a nearby cottage to the resident that purchaser it from us! When we expressed our thanks, the reply was We do not want you to get hurt. We are here to take care of you.—and they do that in so many ways both obvious and hidden. For example, staff has been exceptional in preparing and delivering meals, both when all residents were getting them delivered, or more recently, via a call-up delivery service. All told the entire staff is a part of out Village family and make living here uplifting and friendly.

I moved to Friendship Village 10-1-2020...pretty much the middle of the pandemic. My primary reason for choosing the Village the option to have a cottage (they come in duplexes, triplexes and quads) that I could renovate any way I wanted. I originally moved into a one-bedroom unit while my two-bedroom unit was being upgraded. Although it took 6 months (including a 2-month wait for Tempe to approve a permit), it was well worth the wait. The Village has accommodated my every wish. Although I havent participated in any Village activities (due to covid restrictions), I have thoroughly enjoyed having my meals delivered. The staff is friendly and efficient. The residents have also welcomed me and made me feel that this is a move I should have made years ago. Recently the Village opened up for visitors which has been welcomed by all residents. I highly recommend Friendship Village Tempe to anyone looking for the perfect retirement setting.

I moved into the Village 5 days before lock down for COVID. Even after a year, I am still a newbie asking dumb questions! The lock down was necessary and well handled by the employees. They did all the work. We were just waited-on. I cant even imagine the behind the scenes organization it took to pull it off. But attention to detail has made a difference. I love my cottage. Its location is grand. I call them Lego houses as the maintenance(building crews) just redesign, remake the units to the desires of the buyers. Whats new to me is the feeling of being taken care of. If I dont know something, somebody helps. If I get off a bus, somebody is there to pave the way to the event. If I dont do something, somebody gets it done for me. None of this is obtrusive, just background.Im looking forward to what long time residents say is the fun of the village-activities.

The best decision we have made in our retirement. We are safe and happy and well cared for and our kids dont have to worry about us. The food is great. The facilities are excellent. People really are friendly, both residents and employees. What a blessing not to worry about home maintenance and security, meals, entertainment, healthcare, and social life. We are in a one bedroom cottage which we absolutely love, having downsized from a 4 BR home. We congratulate ourselves at least once a week on the decision to move to Friendship Village Tempe.

I moved in 3 years ago and have never been sorry. It was a big adjustment coming from a home to an apartment (I have never lived in one before) with senior residents but I am so glad I am here. It took me some time to get used to the change but all has worked very well . Did I bring everything I wanted - of course not, but it works. I have made many wonderful friends and for all this offers, I am truly grateful.

Bill and I have lived in Friendship Village Tempe for 8 years and have loved it from the beginning. Last August we determined that Bill needed additional care and our LIfecare plan allowed him to move a few steps away to Nunnenkamp Assisted Living with Caregivers who check on him when needed. We enjoyed 5 dining venues, and all the activities that the Village has to offer. Now, during the Pandemic, we appreciate Friendship Village Tempe even more. Our safety and wellbeing have become their top priority. Kudos to all the heroes who come to work, make our lives safe, provide innovative activities and serve great meals delivered to over 600 doorsteps twice a day. You are the greatest, and we thank you for your tremendous work to keep us safe.

I have been an active resident of Friendship Village Tempe for 13 years. When our executive director Cole Marvin mentioned plans for an in-house nurse practitioner office, I was initially a little skeptical, even though it was a value-added service with no increase in my monthly fees. But now I am a grateful believer! Last Wednesday I had questionable symptoms overnight. First thing in the morning, I called our nurse-practitioner office. Within an hour, one of the nurse practitioners came to our apartment, took my temperature, and administered a COVID-19 test. Because she and I were both concerned about my lungs, she contacted my primary care physician for an x-ray referral. In less than an hour they had arranged for an x-ray to be done that morning in my apartment! They all followed through so efficiently that I had a satisfactory x-ray report within just a few hours after my initial call. Amazing service, right here on our own independent-living campus! --P. My wife and I moved into a cottage in October 2015. We found many welcoming residents as well as staff. We definitely feel at home here and have many friends and activities that we love. The staff has worked especially hard to accommodate we residents as we all faced the COVID virus. It is now near the end of September and only 4 of the residents out of close to 800 residents who live in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and the Health Care Center have caught the COVID virus. All have recovered. So we feel safe here and recommend Friendship Village Tempe as a wonderful place to live.

My wife and I have lived at Friendship Village of Tempe for fourteen years, and I think that our buy-in was the best investment we ever made. My wife Peggy has MS, and we came here in 2006 because the lifestyle here was better suited to her movement and balance problems. We led a happy life. My wife is very social, and moved about the village in her scooter all day -going to the fitness center, activities and concerts inside the village. We made friends, and had a good time dining out in our three dining venues. I was able to get out easily, knowing that she was safe and busy here, so I taught actuarial mathematics part time at ASU. In 2014 my wifes MS progressed to the point that I could no longer care for her in our apartment, and she moved to our skilled nursing facility (Health Care Center or HCC) where she now lives happily in a wheelchair. The transition to a nursing home environment was easy for her, since the HCC was just another part of her home environment and she still saw all of her friends. It was easier for me too. I had a short walk to visit her instead of a half hour drive. I could be in her life, and still teach at ASU. I was also able to go on village buses to concerts and other events at ASU in the evening after I had had dinner with my wife. My life was full and not disrupted. The economics of living here have been very favorable. Friendship Village seemed expensive at first glance in 2006, but it really was not. I no longer had home maintenance, tax, utility, food and other costs that I had at home. In addition, there is a tax deduction for a percentage of the amount I pay here. In the end, I broke even moving in. Now I have benefited even further, since my wife got to move to the HCC under our normal monthly payment, not the $9,000 per month extra cost that is typical in nursing homes. The economics are favorable, but this is not about economics. It is about being happy in our lives, and we have been happy here. We enjoyed ourselves for the first eight years when we could function more normally, and we are still managing to enjoy life in these more difficult years.

I am so grateful to have been guided to Friendship Village - Tempe. It was and is the answer to my prayers. The best part is, I became a resident about six months ago & I'm in my early 70's. We feel lucky that we found Friendship Village of Tempe. Our Village is filled with residents that are friendly, caring, and extremely thoughtful. The employees are equally genuine and helpful. There are many activities...so many that it's hard to decide what to do next. We keep as busy as we wish. Our days are filled with exercise and swimming classes, art and pottery classes and lots of Village entertainment. The services provided by the Village are endless. Transportation is always available, housekeeping and laundry are wonderful and nursing and healthcare is available on premises. We are very happy to invite anyone interested in top-knock quality retirement living to come and visit. Our marketing associates are fulled with information and we can assure you, from past experience, that there are no high pressure sales gimmicks. You'll love the experience. Arlene and Sue

We have lived in Friendship Village of Tempe for one year now moving from San Antonio, TX with our dog, Daisy. We were looking for a life care community that has many activities which keep the body active and the mind sharp. All of the staff care about our well being. When a request is made for a service such as planting specific plants around our cottage, they reply within the day and complete the work in a very reasonable amount of time. There are three different areas for dining. The cafe is casual, the buffet somewhat more formal and fine dining is in the Fireside. All of the food is prepared well, is varied, enjoyable and wait staff are efficient and friendly. We feel that Friendship Village is appropriately named as it is friendly community.

In addition, the administration both actively encourages and listens to resident feedback. Friendship Village is a great place to live.

I love Friendship Village. I first learned about the Village years ago when I was a longtime Hospice of the Valley volunteer. I knew then that is where I wanted to spend my last years! And I did ‘t want to wait too long. Waiting is very risky as it’s very possible to develop a condition which could disqualify you for a Life. Contract! This is of great value and rare among care facilities! I moved into the Village when I was 75. Inasmuch as you are given a year to settle in and know this is where you want to live ... or not and therefore get your entry fee back, there is little reason to hesitate. I moved into the Village the end of December 2006 and have never regretted it for a minute, in fact as the years go on I love it ever more.

Friendship Village is a great place. It has fine facilities but most important are the people. The residents are friendly and the employees are friendly. The employees hired seem to care for older people and are always helpful. The administrative staff works hard and listens to residents. There’s a lot of laughing going on as we enjoy each other. If we have a need, e.g. a repair or replacement of equipment, it is done fast. Comments about food or service are listened to. If you need medical help, there’s immediate help to tell you whether you need to see a doctor or not, or to assist you to get to a hospital; and when you leave the hospital there’s a great place to stay in our Health Care Center. There’s a lot to do here, ranging from concerts to wine tasting to Lifelong Learning classes. And there’s much transportation to help those who don’t have a car and need to go to doctors or the grocery store. I have more friends here than I ever had before I came. You can’t be lonely or bored here unless you choose to be. Ed K.

It just keeps getting better! We have lived here for 6 years and somehow the Village continues to exceed our expectations. Dining venues expand, new menus appear, more activities are offered to keep us fit, and Happy Hour entertainment and refreshments keep us happy! When we have needed nursing help, our caring staff has been there for us to help relieve our worries. To take our minds off the summer heat, we have Root Beer Floats and movies, bus trips to air conditioned restaurants, concerts and shopping, and a wonderful 24 hour fitness center where we can swim under the stars. All this without having to do housework, house repairs or yard work . Our great-grandchildren are right when they tell their friends that we live in a resort. We are so glad that we moved in while we could still be active and enjoy all that the Village has to offer.

We moved to "The Village" seven months ago. The sales staff is excellent and the The Village did everything possible to enable a smooth transition, including helping us with light remodeling to make sure the apartment met our needs There are four things about The Village that make is stand above the competition 1) the activity program is enormous with studios for art, jewelry, and a whole host of other fun. There is also a strong encouragement to participate in fitness opportunities. 2) The food is diverse and excellent with three great choices of venues; 3) The health care/continuing care options are top notch and included in the buy-in; and 4) The Village and staff are a real community filled with mostly happy and satisfied people. The staff is dedicated to assuring residents a pleasant and stimulating Village experience. Residents are encouraged to be friendly and, it just works! The staff also offers opportunistic for a large number for volunteer and to participate / Finally, there was no question that I woudl be moving pets in with me. This retirement community is truly a Village! People are not only friendly but also have lived very interesting lives, are youthful, active and engaging. Though our offspring were shocked when we chose to move here they too have come to realize just how good a move it has been. No worries about security and when something needs fixing in our cottage, we pick up the phone and a fixer arrives pronto! Plus the meals we consume at the restaurants are excellent. In fact, the same semi that delivers meat, fish and produce to local grocery stores delivers to FV. Salads and veggies could only be fresher if we grew them ourselves! An Olympic size pool and fitness center on-site make for ease of regular exercise. We moved here early and have NO regrets. Come early. Live well and long.

We just returned home from a wonderful week-long visit with my amazing Grandparents in Friendship Village and I have joy in my heart as I regale our lovely stay. The property itself is very well kept and offers a number of amenities that my whole family enjoyed, including a well-equipped 24/hr gym, a large heated lap pool, a library with a good movie selection and a billiard room. As self-proclaimed "Foodies" we felt spoiled by the delicious culinary delights offered up by James and the other talented chefs and soux chefs in the Village Cafe and at the Courtyard buffet, and enjoying our meals on the outside patio was an absolute treat! The staff overall were very kind and professional and made us feel welcome. But, most importantly, it was so great to see that my Grandparents are enjoying this time in their lives and the comforts provided by Friendship Village. They deserve every happiness and it's comforting to see them in such a fine place. Thanks so much to you all, for all that you do! We look forward to the next opportunity we get to come back for a visit!

Lakeside Manor is owned and operated by Dan and Elaine Bailey. They have been married for over 30 years and are well aware of family dynamics and how they change over the course of time especially when a family member becomes aged and/or suffers from Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease. It’s reassuring to know the Baileys, along with their Facility Manager, Johanna Allen, are at a place that provides excellent care and compassion needed for peace of mind. Dan is a wonderful teacher who continues to help the patients and their families manage the ongoing challenges and Elaine makes the facility so comfortable and pays attention to Holidays it feels just like “home.” If you are looking to place your loved one in a new home to appropriately and happily meet their needs Lakeside Manor should be on your list to highly consider.
