I've had the opportunity to visit the Marshes several times over the past few years. It's amazing to watch the interactions with the staff and residents. What I have witnessed it's not like your usual staff and resident interactions. It is more like how family would respond to each other. Everyone truly loves each other, the smiles and hugs that fill the air are genuine!

There are very few places that leave a positive lasting impression the way The Marshes of Skidaway Island does. My perspective comes from experiencing The Marshes through the eyes of a dear friend who proudly calls it home. Whether dining in their fine dining, Heron’s restaurant or enjoying a meal in their more causal Bistro, the culinary experience is consistently exceptional. The food is thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and served by a team that genuinely cares Beyond the dining, what sets The Marshes apart is its remarkable sense of community. There is an unmistakable feeling of warmth, belonging, and pride throughout the community. From independent living to skilled nursing, residents are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect at every stage. Perhaps what has impressed me most is hearing directly from the residents themselves. Time and again, I hear people speak so positively about their lives at The Marshes.

We are celebrating our one year anniversary of moving into the Marshes. We can’t believe what a good decision it was to make the leap from living in a patio home at the Landings, to moving into an apartment at the Marshes. The support we received from the staff and other residents was unbelieveable! Making changes to the apartment that we signed up for, was seamless. Don Trahan, the Renovation Specialist, listened to our every need and was always available to show us samples of materials as well as other apartments that had been renovated. During the entire process, communication was ongoing and our questions were always responded to in a timely manner. The process could have been overwhelming, but when staff are professional and really care about you, the new resident, it’s an exciting time.

We have lived at The Marshes for five years. In every respect, the lifestyle and amenities have exceeded our expectations. I will single out one area in this review; the outstanding IT support provided by Director Michael Grasser and his technicians. Most of us, at our age, need help from time-to-time with our computers. When difficulties arise, a work order brings help on the way-- most often within the hour. For a modest yearly fee, support is unlimited. All electronic devices are handled with expertise--computers, televisions, phones, and printers. Support is even available on Saturdays. I cannot count the number of times Michael and his techs have solved our IT problems, and for that, we are truly grateful.

My wife and I moved to The Marshes in April 2012, following our retirements. Our wish list was rapidly filled by The Marshes staff who introduces us to all of the magnificent facilities and options, all designed to make retirement living a pleasure. We are both volunteer facility leaders, my wife in Food and Beverage, myself in Operations, Logistics and Security. Almost all of our residents actively participate in their field of interest or training. Voluntary, but fun. Rather than going on about how great our home is, come and see for yourself why we still believe it was one of the most important, but finest decisions we ever made. If there was a 6 star review option, we'd likely be high up on the list of responders. All good fortune to you, Bill and Inez

We have been residents of The Marshes for all of 3 months, but it has been a wonderful experience from the get-go! Working with Don Trahan and Brannen was a joy and our new home is exactly what we wanted. The service from the food staff has been outstanding. One night recently when I went to pick up our order there was an issue and I was unable to stay until it was resolved. Maxine offered to deliver dinner to our home, but we were working at a volunteer job and wouldn’t be home until 7:00. So I was able to pick it up on our return. Dinner was delivered to me fresh and piping hot – and while he was in the dining room helping out, Ken Hammock (Director of Food and Beverage Services)made a point of saying “your order will be out soon – they are working on it”! We are constantly amazed at the level of service – always with a smile. Ken said “We love what we do and love doing it at the Marshes.” And it shows!!! Thank you Ken and Maxine for going above and beyond!

What began as a wonderful wine dinner unexpectedly turned into a medical situation when a suture opened and I began bleeding. I initially tried to manage it myself, but the incredible team at The Marshes noticed immediately and stepped in without hesitation. The Executive Director, Food and Beverage Director, Security, and the nurse were all absolutely outstanding. Their calm professionalism, quick response, and genuine care took over seamlessly. They stopped the bleeding, ensured I was comfortable and safe, and handled the situation with a level of compassion and coordination that went far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect. Because of their attentiveness, I was able to rejoin my wife and friends and continue enjoying what was otherwise a fantastic evening. Their actions truly reflected exceptional service, care, and humanity”not just hospitality. An outstanding experience, not only for the food and wine, but for the people who make The Marshes such a special place. I highly recommend The Marshes of Skidaway Island.

My wife and I have been residents of The Marshes of Skidaway since August 2012. We were both ready for retirement and were searching for a home somewhere with a warm climate, close to the water and in a community offering excellent dining, convenient transportation, and neighbors having similar interests. Clearly, its management staff and their governing board needed to provide superb facilities, and management geared to taking much of the worry of retirement living in a very upscale community. The Marshes hit a home run in every category, then and now 13 years later. One of the first elements of our very positive welcome centered on the quality of the staff at The Marshes and their skilled ability to maintain a superb "curb appeal" year-round, not only in appearance, but in trained technicians and their quick reaction to whatever your maintenance need might be. Whew! Big retirement need handily solved. In fact, The Marshes even has volunteer committees who, listen to resident concerns and function in support of The Marshes staff. Fun, satisfying and clearly desired. My wife is ohn the Food and Beverage Committee, while I am on the Operations, Logistics and Security Committee. We've arrived. Come visit The Marshes and see why we feel so happy about our decision to retire in full service comfort.

I received a call from my teenage grandson asking if there was anyway he and his 3 friends could come and stay over fall break and play golf at The Landings. I called the concierge and reserved the 2 bedroom guest suite for 5 days. The boys got up each morning and had a big breakfast in our wonderful bistro and then headed off for golf. We only saw the boys for dinner but the guest suites are a great amenity no matter what age your guests are.

When I was in my mid-60's I served on the Marshes of Skidaway Board of Directors for several years. When I talked to residents they invariably said, "we should have moved in sooner!". But when we did focus groups with prospects, they invariably said, "I have heard great things about the Marshes, but we're just not ready". Sadly, many of these prospects waited too long. Some, developed physical and mental challenges when they needed to be at the Marshes. Some had lost a spouse. My wife and I have been Landings Club members for over 40 years, so we were very happy with our current situation. While we weren't wild about the thought of living at the Marshes, we put our name on the waiting list in January 2020. (I was 72 and Melissa was much younger!). We are so glad we moved in "sooner" rather than "later". Since we figure that we'll be here for many, many years, we decided to make significant changes to our cottage. Today it looks and feels like a brand new home with a contemporary "open concept" floor plan. Working with Don Trahan, the Renovation Specialist, was fantastic. And the speed and level of quality of construction by Stephen Brannen and his crew (especially Jason Hornick) were amazing. We have now been here for three months and the Marshes has exceeded our expectations on so many levels. I know that many of my younger pickleball-playing friends who have been to our cottage have been blown away by the Marshes campus and where we now live. My humble advice: Don't delay! Put your name on the waiting list today! It is one of the best decisions you will ever make.

We moved to The Marshes four years ago and absolutely love living here! In early January this year I had surgery to reattach the torn gluteus medius tendon to my hip abductor which requires months of long and careful rehab. Fortunately, we have a highly skilled physical therapy team here at The Oaks, and two days after my surgery Nathan came to our cottage 4 times a week initially, then 3 times weekly, until I could go to therapy at the Oaks. He has an extraordinary combination of knowledge, listening, understanding just how much to push me, and always being my number one cheerleader! That he came in on a Saturday to begin my PT underscores his commitment to his patients! Nathan is an important part of what makes The Marshes an outstanding community!

My parents moved here about 3 years ago, and it has been a wonderful experience for everyone. I can’t speak enough about the staff and the food, but also the proximity to the state park has been an added bonus. We have been a Marshes resident for 5 years and it has been a great move for a number of reason and great care when experiencing illness is one of them. My wife recently spent 2 weeks in the Oaks skilled care unit and her experience could not have been better. The staff at all levels was friendly, caring and very competent. I have lived at the Marshes for a year now and just recently finished 2 months of physical therapy at The Oaks assisted living here. I have had many experiences with physical therapy over the years and found Nathan to be the best ever. Not only did he have an expert eye for my body movements and mechanics but also great knowledge of injuries and surgical outcomes that can affect many other parts of the body. Nathan was kind and encouraging yet strong and determined to push me hard enough to gain strength and flexibility. He is wonderful with us older folks and our special aging needs. As new members of the Marshes community (moved in mid-March 2024), we have been wowed by the professionalism, friendliness, and responsiveness of the staff and the open arms welcome of our new neighbors. We now live in one of the cottages on the Marshes’ campus-a spacious, high ceilinged, 2 bedroom plus bonus room house that looks out on an unobstructed spectator view of the marsh. Help with normal occasional house related maintenance issues is only a phone call or web based click away. The two dining venues are very attractive and welcoming. The food quality, diversity and service is set at a very high, consistent and satisfying level-it’s rather like belonging to a private club founded on exceptional expectations and delivery. In short, the reality of belonging to this community called The Marshes is actually transformative.

Entertainment opportunities at The Marshes are wide-ranging thanks to an enthusiastic and creative director of Community Life. Just a few of the offerings in April alone are: Motown & More at the Savannah Theater presented by Legacy based out of NYC; the Savannah Music Festival is in full swing with transportation offered to many events; a daytrip to Beaufort, SC; a relaxed low country dinner served on the lawn; evening dining out opportunities to many area restaurants such as The Crown & Anchor and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Each year season tickets to performances of the Savannah Philharmonic performances are offered along with transportation. On campus there are many ways to put a smile on your face by participating in activities such as, Bridge, Bocce, Canasta, Mah Jongg, Book Club, Men’s Poker Night, Fitness Classes for every level, Biking, Line Dancing, Walking for Fitness, Water Aerobics . . . . . and the list goes on. Hopefully the picture you are forming is that this is a place to be as busy and as engaged as you wish to be!

There's a lovely little walk to the state park next door. The staff are friendly and professional & the residents are social. There's a nicer restaurant, a cafe, and a cute bar (!!) on the main floor, plus the food is great with plenty of options, so she hardly ever cooks anymore. When there was a health scare, it was a comfort to know that there's a nurse on staff and help with rides to appointments. I told her it feels like living in a resort full-time!

After the passing of my wife, I realized that living alone is not good; I needed to be in an environment where there were friends that I could socialize with on a daily basis. I was living in Cherokee County, Georgia at the time and liked being a Georgia resident. After a lot of Internet searching, I found the Marshes of Skidaway Island. The website described a facility that provided services for my long-term physical health and an environment that would fulfill my socialization needs. One visit was all it took and I was "hooked." I have been here one week and found a facility where every early morning face has a smile on it and a "Good Morning" on the lips. I'm glad I made the move to the Marshes of Skidaway Island.

When my parents decided to move to the Marshes, I thought they were too young and active and healthy. I supported their decision and trusted my parents when they said they would rather go in early to the Marshes than be too late. I was incredibly impressed with how they were welcomed by residents and staff. The IT people helped them get their technology set up in their home. When my mom got sick in 2023, the staff was caring and helpful. Having on site nursing home care was a gift not only to my dad but to my sister and me as we do not live in Savannah. My sister and I were able to stay with my dad and walk to be with my mom. The staff at the Oaks was amazing to our family. Knowing my dad lives in a community that cares deeply for him is a huge blessing.

My parents moved into the Marshes during the summer of 2021 when they were both very healthy and young at 80. They immediately loved the community. Less than 2 years later, my mom was diagnosed with brain cancer and died after a valiant 4 month fight. My sister and I could not ask for a more supportive community for our dad to be. The community is full of life and wonderful, warm people. Can't say enough good things!

Many thanks to Director of Community Life Services,Michelle Rice, at The Marshes of Skidaway Island for facilitating tickets and transportation for the 4-day fabulous Savannah Book Festival. It was efficient and conveniet because parking is difficult on this busy weekend, and the Van was right there for the easy ride home.

We moved into a cottage at the Marshes two months ago and reflecting on the move we have to say the staff and residents couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. As all moves can be quite overwhelming, the staff thought of everything to help ease the process - a timely renovation, resource availability for technology installations (the onsite IT specialists were able to save files from my husbands computer that died one week before the move and then installed his new computer restoring all his files and sanity) and a maintenance team ready to help with such tasks as rearranging furniture, picture hanging and navigating the nuances of a new residence. Concurrently, the residents went to work welcoming us and helping us get integrated in the community. All in all a happy transition. Kudos to all!!!

Over the holidays, my husband and I (along with our two young kiddos) had the pleasure of visiting his parents at The Marshes and staying in one of the guest suites for four nights. When my in laws sold their big house, I wondered about how we could visit and where we would stay (we live far away). Would we really have quality time if we stayed at a hotel 20 mins away? Let me tell you the guest suite was PERFECT! It was so easy to see our grandma and papa AND the suite was clean, had plenty of space - two bedrooms (king and twins), fully equipped kitchen, and came with breakfast in the bistro. A bonus was swimming in the heated indoor pool and my son keeps asking when we can go back. It’s gives us such peace of mind to see how happy and confident my in-laws are with their decision to move to the Marshes.

After two years as residents we can say The Marshes is even better than anticipated. From fitness classes, bocce, lectures and entertainment to the quality of the staff- we could not ask for more. The proximity of Savannah is an added plus. So glad we chose to live at The Marshes.

I have walked along side a current resident's experience of finding her home at the Marshes. From signing up for the wait list, through renovation of her apartment to meet her needs and move in to her new home...all along the way, everyone was supportive, accommodating and a pleasure to work with! I couldn't be more pleased with the whole experience!

My wife and i moved into our cottage 6 months ago, and it has turned out to be one of the best decisions of our lives. Before moving in we were able to make some modifications to our home with the Marshes supplying a great contractor and a full time on site manager. This made the whole process very easy for us. The campus is beautiful and extremely well maintained and the staff and residents couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Boy, did we do good!

Everyone we met during the process of moving my mom to the Marshes felt like family - such a warm and inviting place, with each person (both resident and staff) friendlier than the next. The property and residence is absolutely stunning and takes full advantage of beautiful Skidaway Island. Thanks especially to Colleen Edwards, Director of Marketing, who walked us through the process and solved every issue; Don Trahan, renovation specialist, who could not have been easier to work with and brought a lot of experience to the table; and Cathy Phillips, who toured us through the Oaks and clearly cares deeply about each resident at the Marshes.
