Finding her keys (or phone) in the refrigerator, leaving the stove on, metal things in the microwave, along with most of her short term memory missing, I spent so much time worrying about her safety, and second guessing my own sanity. Thank God I have a friend who encouraged me to start looking for memory care. After visiting several facilities, I found my way to Avita. Here, memory care is their specialty, and now nearly three months later, my wonderful wife has fully adjusted and is enjoying her new friends, and I know she’s safe and very well cared for. Thanks to the wonderful, cooperative and caring staff, as well as the bi-monthly support group, I have finally accepted that I made the right decision to move her to Avita. My anxiety and sleeplessness is put to rest. Thank you Avita for providing the solution to my struggle.

Avita of Newburyport cared for my aunt for the last almost 6 months of her life treating her as part of their family. Everyone from the CNAs, nursing, maintenance reception and more made it so my family and I could sleep at night, knowing she was being well taken care of. We were greeted cheerfully and personally by Mary, Eileen and the rest of the reception staff. Marie and her team helped with all aspects of maintenance and room needs. Courtney and her nursing team were great going above and beyond like when Tammy FaceTimed one night when she was on call to convince my aunt to get into bed so that she’d have a restful night sleep. And, last but absolutely not least, Sandy and the team of CNAs in the autumn community who loved and cared for her with their own personal touches especially at end of life when they would stop in just to give her a hug or check on her and tell her that she was loved. I was the caregiver/health care proxy for many many years to a memory-impaired Beautiful aunt who was like mother to me. Reluctantly I finally decided she needed placement. Yet once at Avita I could not have been more impressed and reassured with the attentive Tender Loving Care that was provided by ALL members of the staff from the Medical Assistants who saw to her minute by minute needs, Nursing, Administration, Activity Directors etc, etc., etc. It is a beautiful, very spacious facility fastidiously maintained which provides home made meals, snacks and beverages 24/7 to residents, hourly activities, lovely outdoor spaces as well as three season porches. Every option available from medication maintenance/administration, Medical and Dental Care, hairdressing, et. al. Towards the end of her life she became enrolled in Hospice who in coordination with Avita staff allowed her to pass peacefully in loving and caring "home."I cannot speak highly enough! Love you Aunty!

My dear cousin Betty has been at Avita for a little over four months. My husband and I were concerned about making the best choice for her as we had seen several facilities during our search for memory care and had been extremely disappointed by what we found. From our first meeting with Alison, we were surprisingly pleased by what we experienced. The friendliness, kindness and compassion that we felt from all of the staff members as well as the facility's attractive, open and comfortable community spaces gave us the encouragement that we needed. Despite her struggles with the dementia, Betty has loved being at Avita. She loves the socialization which she had missed both at home in the previous four years since losing her license as well as at a previous facility which didn't provide adequate support for her. She feels at home at Avita and loves the staff as well as the other residents. With her care designed to meet her individual needs, she has gained the confidence that she can be herself here. My dog and I have been visiting residents regularly for the past two years and feel welcomed by everyone, staff and reception. Residents are engaged, love giving dog treats and are very comfortable. Ir’s like a friends and family event. We visit in the late afternoon after everyone has had a full day of activities; local field trips, musical guests, games, baking and crafts. Plus manicure visits! The common spaces are lovely and consistently decorated for the season/holiday. And the staff is aware, extremely caring and nurture each resident. I would be very comfortable having a friend or relative move to Avita.

I have been extremely pleased with Avita since the day I walked in with my sister trying to find a new memory care facility for both by parents who have dementia. The ENTIRE staff, from top to bottom are so capable, nice, helpful, informative and fantastic!! The communication has been top notch. It is really nice to call with a question or concern and have it answered immediately. As for the facility, it is beautiful and nicely maintained. The programs for the residents they have all day are really great as well. Both my parents engage and are interactive. The staff wants to make sure the residents are engaged and participating. Avita and staff have been a true blessing! My boss from Help in Home, W. Newbury told me he has always heard great things about Avita in Newburyport. Since the beginning of Covid 2020, I left my caretaker job to care for my own Mom w Dementia. Caring for your own family is a much different experience than my clients. As I cared for Mom I was also mourning daily as she slowly slips away forgetting our treasured family times just had or in the past. Her sundowners was scary for all and she was afraid! The slow progression is truly heartbreaking! Such a ruthless disease! After three years I could not manage my own Mom! I do it for a living but experiencing the emotional pain along w giving care just became unbearable. I wasn’t able to care for her or myself nor family. I was afraid to put her in a home/facility. I had not seen one in over seven years that I would feel comfortable with or good enough for Mom! After over five interviews the places I thought were okay cost double of what we are paying now! I took my boss’s referral and from there it was the good Lord taking care of Mom and I! I have not stopped raving about Avita and the lovely staff that makes Avita so very special! They are kind and care! You can tell they love their jobs! They are true professionals for memory loss. I can visit whenever I want but it was time to care for the caretaker. So while I was away, I had absolutely no fear, she was in very good hands! Alison would send us photos of Mom helping others, dancing, eating and laughing. The anguish turned into peace with the help and guidance of Avita! Thank you so very much for picking us up when we we’re down! God bless you all! He has us!

When faced with the heartbreaking realization that my Mom could no longer be cared for at home, we began our search for a suitable memory care unit. My mother was in need of a facility that understands dementia. Luckily for our family, Avita of Newburyport opened just in time! The care and love she received cannot be matched. She went from living alone and depressed because she realized something was going wrong with her mind, to being stimulated the entire day which turned her around into a thriving, happy woman again. She looked forward to the daily activities, having her meals in the four star restaurant with her new friends, and greeting every newcomer or those who visited with a smile and rave review of her new home! I was concerned the first week she was there about how she would do and visited daily. It didn’t take me long to fall in love with the staff, who in turn fell in love with each resident. In addition, I needed to gain knowledge about dementia and be able to accept the road my mother was traveling. Each and every staff member guided me down that path and I will forever be grateful for their guidance. It is not an easy journey but with the support groups they ran and special speakers they had, I was able to come terms with the disease and learn how to best help my mom down the path. My mom passed away 3 years ago. I tell everyone with a loved one who has dementia, if at all possible, don’t hesitate to have them move to Avita of Newburyport. My husband and I still say to this day, we are thankful she got to enjoy the final years of her life at Avita!

Avita is more than a care facility. It is the kind of heart-centered, comprehensive support system that every family caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s needs and deserves. Even before moving my mom to Avita, we received so much support. They met with us many times and compassionately walked us through each aspect of our decision-making process. They never pushed or tried to sell their services. Instead, they patiently provided us with answers to all of our questions and listened empathetically to all of our concerns. We only ever felt genuine kindness and understanding from the staff. We placed my mom at Avita late last year, and we couldn’t be happier. Her transition was beautifully smooth. She is the happiest, healthiest, and most at peace I have seen her in years. She has a couple besties already, loves the activities, and always looks dressed to the nines. The staff is loving and attentive and goes above and beyond what other facilities do. Carrie Hayes is a standout. She clearly cares so deeply and understands the nuances of caring for people with dementia. Matt Carson and Alison Kolozsvary are also angels and were instrumental in supporting us through our decision. Avita helped shape the final years, months and weeks of our Mom's life and our time with her. We looked at many options when finding a place for our Mom after our Dad died, her best friend and faithful companion. For a few months after his passing she lived with family, all of us pitching in to take care of her. We were happy to do it as she had cared for us our entire lives. What we saw was the limitations it put on her life. She was eager to meet and smile at more faces and participate in activities. It was scary and daunting to put her in anyone elses hands, but over time what we understood was that the training and philosphy of all the Avita employees is to put the engagement of the residents first always. I will never forget saying goodbye to her after one of my early visits, tears in my eyes. The maintenance man was crossing the living room with his yellow cart when he put it aside and sat down at the piano to play her a tune. He knew that in that moment his higher purpose was to bring some relief to both of us. He did too, the smile on her face quickly translated to a smile on mine. These experiences never ended. Our Mom quickly adapted to her new environment and her enjoyment of life returned. The staff asked questions about what brought her joy throughout her independent life and made sure it was easy and available to her. She was putting and painting, drum beating and singing. She attended every concert or field trip. Our Mother always took the time to look nice and loved to dress for the day. A box of costume jewelry was part of her morning routine, the staff would help her shower, get dressed and put on matching earrings just knowing that her day would be better if she felt like herself. It's the little things that add up at Avita. If mom needed a lift, someone was there to make her smile. My biggest fear was that she would ever feel afraid. What I soon realized was that all the things I worried about were the same things Avita worried about, and worked to make sure they were not a part of my Mom's life. I still felt sadness leaving her, but I also felt peace. That was a new emotion for me after many years of navigating this disease with her. I was able to fully be the Mom to my own girls that I wanted to be because I didn't need to worry quite as much about her as before. And when I visited, she and I spent time laughing and I would tell her stories. Some days when I was tired myself I would come when an activity was going on. I found the support and energy was infectious. As our Mom entered the final stages of her life. The Avita staff worked with us and hospice to make it as peaceful a transition as possible. Their tears the day she passed were the result of the connection they had made with our Mom. They loved her and mourned her too. I could call out the names of people that made a difference, but it was all of them. From the Welcome she recieved when we walked through the door, to the aides that checked on her at night. It's been just over a year since my Mom passed and tears quickly come to my eyes as gratitude overwhelms me. I will never be able to express what Avita did for our family. XOXO

My sister was a resident at Avita in Newburyport for over a year until Dementia finally took her. The staff was always kind and compassionate and she had the best experience possible. The activities provided for the patients were varied and appropriate. The staff built a community allowing the residents to interact. When ever we visited we were welcomed and invited to engage it whatever was happening. We were able to have meals with her. I always felt that the residents were treated as individuals by healthcare professionals who truly cared.

Amazing, compassionate community for those suffering from memory impairment. I am blessed to have 2 views of this magnificent community. My Mother was a resident for the final 2 years of her life. I had never seen her so engaged and happy. The nursing care she received was ABSOLUTELY the Best with any issue that arose. The Social Programming Department got her out and about to in-house concerts, exercise programs, arts and crafts and trips out to area restaurants and scenic rides. Her life was surrounded by caring people, who put her needs at the forefront of their day. I am truly thankful to Northbridge Companies for setting such a High standard of care and the extensive training programs each staff member. Everyone is accountable for caring for our residents. YES, I said OUR Residents - Because not only did my Mother live there, but I am a Proud Team Member as well!! Sooo blessed all around. Avita of Newburyport is an AMAZING GIFT to so many.
