My Dad and Mother in law are both residents at Abbottswood. It’s been great for my MIL - she has her independent back that she lost after the death of my FIL. Church, friends, activities - even though she is winding down she is living a much more full and independent life. My Dad has not adjusted as well. He misses his home, and private life. He does not choose to participate in any activities. But - when he got Covid, there was plenty of care to support him. He also tripped and ended up in a back brace for 6 weeks - and again, care was there for him as needed. We are very happy they moved to Abbottswood.

I am with Seniors helping Seniors and I have been coming there since May. The staff at abbotswood are top notch. I have observed staff from the front desk to servers and all those in between be so polite to residents. I have witnessed them go out of their way to assist a resident. When it is my time, and if I could afford it, I would love to be in this type of atmosphere. Keep up the good work you are all amazing.

Today my visit at Abbottswood was pretty quick as I was just visiting my mom in her apartment. But I go there frequently and I think their staff is just wonderful. They are so friendly, personable, know all the residents personally, and I think it’s one of the things that makes them better than a lot of other places. The facility always looks clean and is well decorated. It’s a great place all around.

My father lived at Abbotswood for the last 5 or so months (prior to his passing) and I’m so thankful for the staff and facility. I can only speak to independent living - he eventually began using Living Well at Home as his disease progressed to handle administration of his medication. The staff did their best managing his ever changing med schedule while keeping communication as up to date as possible with the CNAs. When we did have any issues, they were taken seriously and fixed promptly. Brittany consistently went above and beyond to make mine and my father’s lives easier. Markeith responded even on the weekends whenever issues came up.. and Amber spent so much time adjusting medication while adhering to their required paperwork - which was no easy task. The ladies up front are sweet and welcoming.. and the residents are all so kind. The dining room has wonderful food. Sometimes the staff was lackluster - but there are a handful of servers who always gave fantastic service. Abbotswood has so much to offer and I wish my father could have enjoyed his time there for longer. I’d recommend living there to anyone.

My parents have been residents of Abbottswood's independent living apartment community for over 10 years. My father recently moved to Verra Spring, the assisted living community, at age 94 for declining mobility. We have had wonderful experiences at Abbottswood. The Wellness and Entertainment programs, Physical/Occupational Therapies, and Dining venues are all first rate. As a retired physician with over 35 years of health care experience, I find the quality of care to be exceptional. Most recently, the Executive Director, Will Eubanks, was able to set up a way for my legally blind father to watch and hear TV in his apartment. Mr. Eubanks and his able staff continue to go above and beyond our expectations at every turn. Simply put, the entire staff, from the leadership down, always puts the residents care and safety first. When my mother decided to give up her home and move into a retirement community, Abbotswood was exactly what she was looking for. She has a beautiful apartment that feels and looks like home. As a family member, what impresses me is the level of care and concern the staff affords the residents provided in a lovely environment. During Covid, the protocols, that were instituted kept the residents and staff safe during a time of the unknown. Knowing that many of the residents had little to no contact with the outside during that time, the staff went above and beyond to do special things to keep up the residents spirits. Special socially distanced activities we planned. The "ice cream cart" roaming through the halls weekly, delivered sweet treats to the residents. Those are just a couple of the things they did during that difficult time. Families are frequently included during the year with invitations to special events. The recent Fall Festival was well planned and met the needs of the very young visitors to the older residents. From the delicious food (a pig roast) to face painting and games, everyone had a great time. Residents serve on advisory committees and have a voice in their community. Management listens to the residents and responds to their needs. As a family member, I feel confident that my mother is in a caring and safe environment and that gives me piece of mind. My mother is extremely happy at Abbotswood. That means everything to me.

Each time we come to visit we are greeted with warm welcomes and smiles and made to feel very at ease. Our dear family members that live here are so pleased with this community for so many reasons. Everything from the delicious food, countless activities and social events, meticulously kept facilities and last but far from least, are the amazing people working here who genuinely care about those under their charge. We even had the Executive Director come out and check in on us. He remembered our names, knew what was happening with the care of our family members, and it was abundantly clear that he cares about everyone there and finds great joy and pride in ensuring all the people there are well cared for. Each time we have to leave is very hard but knowing what a truly wonderful place Abbotswood is, and knowing that our family members are in the hands of such professional and compassionate folks, makes saying those goodbyes a bit easier.

My mother has been in Abbotswood since Jan. She first went into assisted living where we felt the care was good. In April, she moved to their highest level of memory care, and the care is inadequate for the needs of the population. They are understaffed. Though there are some good caretakers, many loiter at the nurse’s desk on their phones. Residents are not being well cared for. The average cost per month is about $9000.

When the time comes to move a family member into facility that can provide assistance, this is exactly the place you want to discover. Our family felt so fortunate having this facility right here in Greensboro. The caring and supportive staff proved time and time again how important the comfort and safety of those in their care are to them. Everyone from the night shift to the Executive Director, prove that they deeply care for the residents here and take pride in their job. The facility is always clean when we visit and the smiles on the faces of our loved ones, tell us they enjoy being here. There are always activities and events happening and that too adds to our piece of mind ”knowing those living here are not just a number but a real part of a community. We highly recommend Abbotswood at Irving Park and when the time comes for us to make the move for ourselves, we hope to find a place like this to call home.

I want to share my great experiences with Abbotswood. I have visited for over 3 years. The staff is always very helpful and positive. Smiles everywhere - from Marketing/Sales, Housekeeping, ED, and CNAs! (The man in transportation is about the happiest man I've ever met.) I have been to many functions and they are always top-notch. The community is clean, and well-run. My highest praise, however, is for their new community for people with high-functioning dementia. My mother fits in this category and I look forward to seeing residents thrive!

My dad transferred to Abbotswood after a terrible experience at another facility. When he arrived, he was severely depressed and very weak physically. With some urging from the staff, he became interested in making friends at Abbotswood and started doing physical therapy there as well. I truly believe the caring and kind people at Abbotswood saved his life. After being there for 6 months or so, he is much stronger physically and his mental status has improved greatly. I am so glad we found Abbotswood. I have nothing but thanks and praise to everyone who works there. Keep it up!

For myself and my family, the most important consideration in selecting a senior living community for my mother was whether the community was friendly, loving, and full of happy residents. Do the associates who work there know all the residents by name, and vice versa, from a bond of mutual respect and appreciation? Abbotswood excels in this respect. People there are happy. There is a real community that is welcoming and not snobby to new arrivals. There are plenty of secondary considerations. Here are some: Is there a huge buy-in? No. You basically pay month-to-month like for an apartment. So there is no barrier to leaving if you are unhappy, and the organization is incentivized to keep residents happy. Which they seem to do well. Are the associates and staff attentive? Tremendously so. They attack any problem or issue, whether it is maintenance, need a new power cord for the cable box, etc within hours if not minutes. Felix, the head of maintenance, is fantastic. But everyone there steps forward to accept and solve problems even if they rightly should have been directed to another staff member. You never hear, "that's not my job." Staff of Abbotswood, take a bow. It is so rare to encounter that level of friendly, professional service. Providing it while serving the elderly, who often are not as able to verbalize their appreciation, marks a special organization at all levels. How's the food? Surprisingly excellent. Also super flexible; there is an "anytime" menu a resident can order from at all hours, and they are happy to pack up a meal gratis if you are sick or just want to have your meal in your apartment instead of the dining room. Facilities? Well kept and nice. New buildings are going up soon. Apartments in the main building are up to 2 BR and a little over 1200 sqft. Also conveniently located on Elm street. Abbotswood continues to surprise me in positive ways. It should be on the short list of any family looking at the top tier of senior living facilities in Greensboro. Just ask the residents in the halls, many of whom are retired doctors, professionals, even WW2 vets and others. We are blessed to have found Abbotswood.
