Two years ago my wife Joy and I moved from Milwaukee, where we have lived our whole lives, to Arlington, Virginia to be closer to our older son, Brian, as we age. It made sense and Brian and his wife, Megan, went out of their way to get us settled. Arlington is a very nice place to live. Even so, we really miss our home town. But we don’t want to simply move back to Milwaukee; we have a very particular place in mind. Eastcastle. To say we were familiar with Eastcastle and its terrific staff, wonderful accommodations, services and location is a vast understatement. We have friends who already live there and not surprisingly they love it. As do we. We have a reservation at Eastcastle and can hardly wait until an apartment becomes available. We had our eyes on Eastcastle for some time. We have toured there twice in the past and knowing how much we were impressed, the Eastcastle staff graciously offered to let us spend two nights at one of their guest rooms when we returned to Milwaukee in early June for a family wedding. Yes, returning to Milwaukee and Eastcastle would be, as the old song goes, a true sentimental journey.

My parents have recently moved to independent living at Eastcastle Place. They were warmly welcomed and the transition went smoothly. They feel safe in their community and are "as busy as ever" with all of the activities that are offered. The grounds, living, and dining areas are well maintained and clean. The food is fantastic. The staff is courteous and professional and take time to get to know my parents and treat them with respect. Our family rests easy knowing that they are happy and in a safe and caring environment.

We moved into a beautiful independent living unit and have found the staff and community to be beyond our expectations. We knew we'd like living here but we never thought we'd love it!! Everything from the first interview with Anna to the move-in with Jennifer went smoothly. The variety of food served by chef Tim and the people who serve the food is beyond expectations. We wish we would have moved sooner than waiting until we were 80 because there are so many activities here, our days are more than filled with great things to do. We can walk to so many venues in the area including a hospital. Do schedule a date to meet with the staff and learn more about this wonderful place. Doreen and Mike Festge

Although the independent living and assisted living units at Eastcastle are wonderful and look beautiful - the rehab facility, not so much! My father was there trying to get his balance back and regaining strength in his legs for 3 months. He loved the therapy and seemed to benefit from it, but everyday life was pretty bad. He was not a fan of the food, which more often than not, was cold. When he called for some help, he had to wait a while for someone to respond. I realize that these places are understaffed, but when I see the staff at the nurses station on their phones, or ignoring the phones, I do have to wonder. Yes, there were some caring staff members that do everything they could for my dad, but not alot. What bothered me the most, tho, was the lack of communication between medical personnel and my family. I never once met the doctor or NP that saw my dad and they didn't return my calls. I will however, give a shout-out to Kole Berner, the Health Care Coordinator, who always called me back and took care of whatever I needed.

I want to take a moment to tell you about a great initiative that EastCastle Place offers those of us who have officially signed up and are waiting for EastCastle Place to become our future residence. One of the downsides of being on a waitlist is, of course, WAITING. Waiting is never easy. But the EastCastle staff has developed a way to make that wait much more enjoyable by making planned activities and facilities available to waitlist members. So my advice is to partake in this opportunity - they make it so easy to do so. Waitlist members have access to EastCastle Workout facilities, pool, and classes. I myself am taking advantage of Yoga twice a week - a great opportunity with a great instructor. A favorite activity is meeting Waitlist members for Third Thursday Coffee monthly at EastCastle or local coffee shops. These get-togethers give us a chance to get to know the staff better, ask questions of a current resident in attendance, and begin to build meaningful relationships with other waitlist members. It is a great opportunity to dialog with them on techniques (such as downsizing approaches) that they believe will make their transition smoother. These activities keep waitlist members actively engaged in the community. They provide knowledge about how the community operates and build familiarity and friendships so that by the time your new home becomes available, you have already begun that integration and actually feel a part of the community. It is a great process and really increases the comfort level as you approach that final decision about joining the community.

One of the many positive aspects about Eastcastle has been one I never expected to find. It is the Treasure Chest. As everyone who moves from a larger home or condo to an independent senior apartment will find, there is some down sizing that needs to be done. Most of us have too much furniture. I was willing to donate my excess pieces of furniture to a charitable organization, but most of them do not offer a pick up service, and one must pay to have that done. When I moved to Eastcastle, I found that on moving day the truck that was moving my things could also move my donated items right to the Treasure Chest donation area at no extra cost. The Treasure Chest is similar to a small store where furniture and other household items are sold at a very low reasonable price available to other residents and the staff here at Eastcastle. The money that is raised goes to provide scholarships to the young staff members many of whom are also college students and need money for tuition. It is a win win situation for all. Though at first I thought I would. never be a "customer" at the Treasure Chest, I found the need to purchase a smaller dinette set for my new apartment. The weekly flyer that advertises items that have been donated featured a dinette set so I thought I would just go look at it. It turned out to be the perfect size for my area and the wood matched that of my china cabinet. The price was also amazingly low, and I was glad that the money was going to a good cause. The Treasure Chest is definitely an asset for both the staff and the residents here at Eastcastle. It is a wonderful idea!

I moved my mother into Eastcastle place this past week. This was a big move for my 86 year old mother who was moving from California to her home city of many years. We had a truly amazing experience working with first Anna on the process of securing her apartment which was completely rehabbed with new beautiful flooring to my mother’s taste, brand new appliances, paint, etc. Then Jennifer stepped in acting as almost a concierge to during the move (worked with the moving company and movers, guided us through the paperwork, was quick to answer all texts, set up our dinner reservations, truly bent over backwards to make us feel supported). Finally, Michael from maintenance stepped in and ensured my mother’s TV was good to go, offered ongoing support as she adjusts to the new cable situation, will be returning to hang her art and pictures. Quick mention that the residents were also so very welcoming with dinner invitations, gifts of flowers and baked goods. I returned to California with confidence my mother was in a wonderful new community.

I moved to Milwaukee to live near my son and found that Eastcastle Place is the perfect home for me. Moving from out of state, I found a warm and welcoming community. I have always had an active lifestyle and was pleased to learn Eastcastle Place’s comprehensive fitness program included personal training. My strength and agility have improved and helped me prevent injury and maintain my independence. I no longer drive so I appreciate the short walk to the theater, shops and a variety of restaurants. Every day is an adventure! There is always something to learn, people to meet, opportunities to volunteer and places to go. Lake Park is the perfect way to end my day.

Eastcastle Place has been our home for almost two years at this writing. And it’s been great! We (June and Wally) elected ECP for a variety of reasons as the place to live out our senior years but we had no way of imagining how very comfortable and happy we would be. As other reviewers point out, both staff and fellow residents are exceptionally considerate and congenial “ and the food is outstanding! For us personally, a major plus has been the weekly Bible study led by Harold Appley, Eastcastle’s chaplain. And ... from sublime to ridiculous ... we look forward each week to chair volleyball (playing the game as usual but with one’s butt attached firmly to one’s chair; great both for exercise and especially a whole lot of laughs!). Of course there’s much more, so much more, that contributes to our well-being here but suffice to say we are tickled pink with our decision to make Eastcastle our home.

We moved to Eastcastle in November 2024, two days before Thanksgiving and have been very happy with our new community. One of the best things (of many) about Eastcastle is the maintenance staff. They are incredible! On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, they were here to install our wall mounted TVs. Mary had unfortunately left an inside light on in our car the previous day and found the car wouldn't start. When Michael heard this, he immediately offered to jump start the battery. When she said "but you're in the middle of something", he replied that he and Justin would get back to it. The jump start worked! We were so grateful. Before Michael left our apartment once the TVs were up and running, he asked if there was anything else he could do (we have learned that this is a typical maintenance response). Well, during the move, the hook for the pendulum of our grandfather clock had fallen off and we had tried without success to get it back on. Again, Michael came to our rescue and figured out how to open the clock and ,secure the hook and pendulum. To name several more, the maintenance team has also helped us with hanging art work, installing our dining area chandelier with the perfect hook that Michael "found in the work room", bathroom grab bars, dimmer switches, assembling a free-standing kitchen storage cabinet, leveling the refrigerator, hanging new window shades and more. Kind and talented, they are just the best!

I am so pleased that I made the decision to move to Eastcastle 9 months ago. I have a lovely apartment with wonderfully friendly residents and staff. The dining food and service are exceptional. There are numerous activities, educational programs, field trips, creative arts, movies, music shows, etc. It is a comfort to myself and my daughters that I am in a safe and secure environment. They have enviously commented that they hope to live in a similar residence when they are older.

My widowed mother moved to Eastcastle in 2014 at the age of 88 and lived in Independent Living for 10 years before moving to the Health Center for the last six months of her life. She had a lovely Independent Living apartment that was perfect for her and thoroughly enjoyed living at Eastcastle. She made new friends, was active on the Resident Council, and took advantage of the many enriching activities offered to residents by Eastcastle, both in the community and on-site. As a family we were able to visit her frequently and always felt very welcomed by the staff. As her health declined it was so reassuring to know that Mom would be able to transfer to the Health Center where she would get high quality nursing care and still stay within the same community. Her Eastcastle friends were able to easily visit her and, as a family, our comfort and familiarity with the facility and staff were extremely helpful. We felt very supported during her final months. Over the 10 years that she was at Eastcastle, I had the opportunity to interact with various staff members, both administrative and direct care, across multiple departments. I found the staff to be responsive and highly invested in the well-being of the residents, whether they were in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, or the Health Center. I believe that Eastcastle is an outstanding Senior Living community that offers important services and valued amenities to both their residents and their families. It was a wonderful fit for my mother and a great spot for her last chapter.

As they say, it’s all about location. We sincerely believe that Eastcastle Place is situated in the best geographic area of our city. It’s a short walk to shopping areas containing grocery, theater, coffee, bookstore, drug store, restaurant, bread and other retail entities and Lake Park and a view of Lake Michigan is just blocks away. The amenities and programming offered are most appreciated. My wife and I enjoy participating in water aerobics sessions and the relaxing hot tub following our exercise. Among other amenities, Eastcastle Place has a woodworking shop in the basement. While space is very limited, it’s not lacking for tools brought and donated by residents. There are no fewer than eight traditional stationary power tools. Racks of hand tools and clamps supplement the heavy stuff. There are carts and willing staff to move completed projects to a large Creativity Center for final finishing. Resident projects range from a simple stool to a very elaborate doll house with furniture.

I am absolutely beside myself with grief, in terms of the way my dear mother is now having to live her life here. I feel she has been utterly spiritually and intellectually abandoned on the 5th floor. It feels like a place you go to die. I have begged and pleaded with activity staff to help me so that I can Grandpad my mother, as I live very far away. This is my only means of contact with her. They "nice" me into thinking they can help, but in the end, they are nowhere. I call and call and no one picks up at the nurse's station. I cannot fault the caregivers. But they are understaffed and rely on "Agency" people. My mother is so depressed. People move her around, drop off food, spend two minutes with her. Her television is so loud. Since moving onto this floor, she has suffered and deteriorated. Staff simply say "She refuses" as an excuse not to provide therapy and activities, the things she is paying for. And Eastcastle is not cheap.. I am only writing this review because I cannot get anyone's attention there. I am at my wit's end. Every day that I cannot talk to my mother breaks my heart just a little bit more. How can people profit from other people's misery and care so little? Eastcastle, for what we are paying, can you not do more? What would it take for someone to spend 20 minutes a day listening to music , looking at a photo album, reading poetry? Where are your activities people? My mother is cognizant, and that is what hurts even more. She is a loving person who is trying, but I recently spent three days with her and saw how neglected she was. Especially at the weekend. It is not enough to wash clean and dress and feed a person. You need to have people who provide spiritual and intellectual comfort and presence. And if you can't, at the very least, don't charge for these services. I want to hope that you can do better, and at the very least, ,help me to connect. Please.

My parents decided a couple of years ago that it was time to move to independent living in a place that offers a spectrum of care for the future, just in case. They ultimately settled on Eastcastle, and to say that they (and we) have been thrilled with their choice would be gross understatement. From the year or so of fun pre-move events to introduce them to the property, the staff and other residents; to the recommendation of resources to make their move/move-in processes efficient and even pleasurable; to the staff who are, from top to bottom, warm, responsive, skilled, and wonderful; to the lengths to which those staff go to nurture a genuine sense of caring community; to the variety and volume of activities every (I mean every) week; to the outstanding food and menu variety; to the kindness and caring of other residents; and to the absolute comfort and beauty of my parents' unit, the experience has been top flight. I know this sounds like a line from a marketing brochure, but it's true. Eastcastle is not just another place for folks in their sunset years to live. It really is a community of staff and residents who enjoy being together and who genuinely care for one another -- in a simply beautiful place that offers the richest of a quality life. And then there is the pool, the fitness center, the salon, the bar, the movie theater, and all the other "stuff" I note above. It's a remarkable place.

Our Mom moved into Eastcastle almost a year ago and Mom and our (my two sisters and I live out of town so we were/do a lot remotely)entire experience has been nothing short of fabulous. From Mom’s initial visits pre-Covid to her decision to move in last spring to her decision to change units prior to move in to moving in and getting settled and engaged in EC activities, all of the staff have been completely focused on Mom’s needs and Mom’s timing of decision making. Special shout outs to Heidi, Cooper, Lila and Willie for all of their continuing help and assistance. Mom often wishes she had moved in when she first looked at EastcastleMom enjoys participating in the fitness classes, is back going to the symphony with a group from EC, has joined the residents council, now takes Lift rides (when the EC van is not available) and even walks by herself to Downer Ave to get a manicure. The independence Mom has gained is amazing. Being out of town, we are so appreciative of the daily check ins and the day to day assistance Mom gets from all of the staff. Highly recommend Eastcastle to anyone looking for a great place to live.

We moved our mom to EastCastle Place Health Center/Skilled Nursing Care just over a month ago, our experience has been outstanding in every way. The interior design gives Eastcastle a bright, inviting character and all of the facilities are kept very clean. I have been impressed with the quality and variety of the food that is available and the brunch that is served every Sunday is wonderful. I had a wonderful experience staying at Eastcastle Place! I was in there for sub acute care between knee surgeries and it was great. Every staff member, from administrators, nurses, CNAs, therapists(physical and occupational),scheduler for Dr. appointments to the van driver REALLY cares about you. Your needs are always on the top of their minds, and that’s a good feeling when you’re recuperating. And the meals are top notch, leaps and bounds better than hospital or other care facilities(I even put on weight here!). And I talked with residents and everyone of them was happy about living at Eastcastle Place. If you have a chance to convalesce here, I highly recommend it. My parents moved into Eastcastle Place nine months ago after living in their home for 50+ years. Our experience from move-in to the present has been nothing short of spectacular. The staff are friendly and helpful and very responsive to whatever is needed. Anna, Jennifer, Heidi, Cooper, Lila and the entire maintenance staff made the move/transition easy and smooth. Before move-in we were told that the residents and staff feel like family at Eastcastle and it really is true; staff members know the residents well and it really feels like a supportive family atmosphere among the residents and staff. The activities are interesting and there always seems to be something going on for everyone. There are also a wide variety of exercise programs for every fitness level. My mother Dolores spent the last 18 months of her life in the Memory Care Community at Eastcastle Place, and she loved living there. When I’d push her wheelchair back into her room after a meal in the dining room or a walk around the grounds, she would often spontaneously say I love my room’. She would always perk up when one of the Nurses or CNAs entered her room to take vital signs or administer medicine, and engage them in lighthearted banter. Mom was an RN for decades, and spent some time working in nursing facilities with all types of staff, and she often remarked that the girls’ at Eastcastle always treated her kindly and never got upset with her, which was so comforting to me and other family members. I often accompanied Mom to dinner in the dining room, and we were both impressed by the quality and variety of food. I would have been happy to eat the meals that Mom was served. Mom also required a few courses of Physical and Occupational Therapy during her stay, and we found the therapists to be enthusiastic and patient, and to produce significant results. We were also very satisfied with the maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry services, and I was always confident that Mom would be in a safe and clean room, and in clean clothes. Finally, we appreciated all the dedicated and pleasant staff members, and were delighted that Eastcastle Place maintains an Employee Appreciation Fund to which donations could be made, and runs a secondhand store which funds employee scholarships. Our family happily donated Mom’s clothing and furniture after she passed away, and made a donation to the Employee Appreciation Fund as well.

My aunt Adele spent her last number of months at the Health Center at Eastcastle Place as she needed greater care that what she had been receiving. As before, we were very pleased with the housekeeping and how pleasant her room was. The food service was very good. The nursing staff members were very friendly and very caring with my aunt right through until she passed in October of 2023. Overall, would highly recommend Eastcastle Place Memory care for your loved ones.

Heidi made us feel at ease from the moment we met her. Her quick wit and ready laugh totally disarmed us. Beyond her captivating good humor, she actually listened to what we had to say, and was truly attentive to our unique situation. Over time, we came to realize that she genuinely wants what is best for us and will do everything she can to help us get it. Because she will not be happy until we are, she makes us feel more like friends than clients. We consider Heidi Koll to be the crown jewel of marketing professionals.

I think that this place is pretty great... I have spent a lot of time here over the past year in both memory care as well as with the Independent and assisted living portions of the campus as a student artist in residence as somewhat of a community member/ but also borderline staff member?. has been a fun and enriching experience. The community really values the arts - they are involved in the program that I came in through where they house and/or work closely with a student artist to enrich community life. There is a writers group, knitting group, creativity center, etc. Residents all have good stories to tell and seem to really enjoy life. There is strong resident leadership and involvement in all parts of the community. they expect to be fully renovated in the next year or so and things are probably going to get even more awesome.

Living at Eastcastle is a very fulfilling experience. There are many activities that meet our physical, intellectual and spiritual needs. The residents feel like part of a big family being very welcoming to new residents and caring for all as we age together. The location is in a beautiful neighborhood within easy walking distance to Lake Park and shops. With a dedicated staff, Eastcastle is a very special place to call home.

Anyone looking to have a loved one placed into hospice should visit with Eastcastle Place, 1st or last, and make their own assessment. The 4th floor (Hospice) where my mother was located was clean, quiet and didn't smell like most nursing homes. The staff is attentive and compassionate everyday, not just those days I visited my mother. A truly inspirational group. And when there were issues, the team corrected the the problem quickly. I was very pleased. The room was more than adequate for my mother's needs. The food was good and treats were provided routinely, even cut flowers. Placing a loved one into a nursing home isn't easy; however, Eastcastle affords you that piece of mind that your loved one is getting the best care possible in their last days / months of their life. My mother and I considered ourselves blessed with being at Eastcastle, especially after visiting and knowing family living in other nursing homes in the area. Good luck! God bless.

Eastcastle Place took excellent care of my mother during her rehab. All the staff from reception, to nurse, to caretaker, to food delivery everyone (and I mean everyone) took such care in everything they did with my mom. I didn't ever have an issue with communication, anytime I needed someone they responded quickly. My mom was never happier (other than having to be there lol) anything she requested she received. She even made good friends with some of the staff. I would highly recommend the facility to anyone who needs rehab. Thanks Again!

3 stars because I hope they improve. My grandfather went to this facility for rehab. I try to be understanding but they could do better. Communication is key. One I believe the staff may be understaffed or overworked. They kept saying his name wrong , likely bc they put two ppl near each other who had similar names. His discharge papers were even the wrong name. I could go on but no need. I just hope they do better. Communicate better with your clients and their family.
