I am writing this review because I wish I had more reviews to assist me when I was making the decision for my father. People are often searching for adult family homes when they are under pressure, so it can be a very stressful situation. In my experience, the adult family homes tell you exactly what you want to hear because they are trying to sell you on their home. I hope this review can be of assistance to others in making their decision about whether this home is best for their loved one's needs. Theresa, the owner and manager of Sand Point Senior Care was very personable and pleasant. The house is spacious, bright and overlooks Lake Washington and these were all contributing factors in choosing this adult family home. A big issue for my father was his sundowning at night, but Theresa felt confident that she could manage it with medication. Although she wasn't able to completely manage it with medication, she did try and her efforts were appreciated. Dad was not the easiest patient, but he also had a lot of medical issues and/or drug side effects, which didn't help the situation. I do not think I would put another loved one in this facility. The issues that I had with the facility were the following: 1. The caregiver found Dad on Sand Point Way (a busy street) in the middle of the night. Luckily, nothing happened to him. No alarms are on the entrance doors (or were used in my father's room) and the staffing is not adequate to have eyes on all the patients without using alarms. 2. Lack of communication regarding medications with the caregivers. Hospice would discontinue medications and I would find the caregivers giving the meds to him days later. 3. Poor documentation on med charts and too much flexibility on timing of medication. Medication charts were not filled out on a daily basis and meds would be given based on convenience and not necessarily at the scheduled time. 4. Lack of knowledge about medical equipment (ex. caregivers did not know about leg supports on wheelchairs, an oxygen tube was put on dad, but the oxygen valve was not turned on, and catheter tube not raised high enough which caused issues). 5. Caregivers, including Theresa, were not very observant regarding changes that were occurring with my father. Even though they were charting his weight on a calendar, no one noticed when he gained almost 15 pounds in 9 days. Their attention to detail was not up to my standards. I felt that myself and my family members were constantly overseeing the care of Dad, which was very discouraging when you are paying them to care for him. I would have liked to see more socializing and stimulation for my Dad (i.e. listening to music, activities, watching television and getting him outside more often). Most patients spent a lot of their time alone in their rooms, which is not what I was hoping for or expecting. A lot of them are brought out for meals and then returned to their rooms. I expected more eyes to be on him and more interaction between caregivers and patients. I really enjoyed Judy, Michelle and Burt and felt that they were great caregivers for Dad. The food was acceptable and Dad really enjoyed the fresh fruit he regularly received with his meals. In conclusion, it all depends on the needs of the person. I think this could be a great place if the person has minimal needs, but I think this was not the best place for our situation. Dad was there for 5 months before we moved him out.

I personally selected this facility for myself. The care and attention I receive are top notch. Great communication with customized and accommodating care. Perfect for Palliative and Hospice care patients. The safe and supportive environment provides a great deal of comfort and good quality of life. This facility has experience with and accepts ALS patients, which can be hard to find. Caring and experienced staff and management.
