Journey Home My wife, Joyce, has Alzheimer's. After 3 years of my being her sole caregiver with no support services, we moved to Renton, Washington to be near relatives who wanted to be part of Joyce's home support group. Shortly after the move, Joyce's condition worsened. and we needed a retirement home with a memory care unit. We had no knowledge for picking a retirement home and had a very short window. My business experience said I should look for financial stability, services Joyce needed, close to relatives, and "felt" right. The last criterion was a gut call. And the only acceptable outcome would be keeping my wife healthy and happy, but only time would tell. After a whirlwind tour of 7 retirement homes we decided on Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre. Everyone we met there seemed happy, especially the employees. We visited several times, with and without notice. It always felt right. Merrill Gardens explained everything, even things we didn't know to ask. The premises were pristine. Their two buildings were part of a single first floor structure that made moving from one to the other simple. Their restaurant had a full menu that changed daily with open seating from 7 am to 7 pm. Their activity schedule was enormous. They had two gyms. They had several outdoor terrace gardens and many indoor local gatherings places. I could go on and on, but they can explain it better than I can. The best was yet to come. My wife moved into the memory unit, called Garden House. Within 2 weeks the anxieties that had plagued her during home care were gone. She made new friends and she was happy. Very happy. The 24x7 care and state-of-the-art protection proved to be a game changer. I didn't know what to expect before, but I was blown away by the positive changes in her. Everything improved. Her attitude, eating, dressing, bathing, taking medicine etc. The care givers didn't just take care of Joyce, they interacted with her. They sat with her to get to know her. Made sure she was integrated into activities. They became friends. Joyce had found a new home. There is a PS to this. I wanted to near Joyce so 2 months after she moved into Garden House, I moved into the Independent Living section of Merrill Gardens. I had been very stressed from taking care of Joyce and then downsizing our belongings. Merrill Gardens made my transition as easy as possible. They sent meals to the rental home I was working to empty and close down. They recommended places for donating items. And they recommended a moving company, RR Move, that specializes in moving seniors. RR Move turned out to be the icing on the cake. I had selected an apartment in MG, but dreaded having to move-in and figure out where everything went. Joyce was good at this, not me. The movers were amazing. When I showed up at the MG apartment everything, and I mean everything, was in its proper place. All the furniture was where it should be. Artwork was hanging where it should be. Closets and cupboards and cabinets had the right things in them. Even the dog beds were in the right places. It was like coming home to a cozy place where I had lived for years. It made the transition as smooth as it could possibly be. It has now been several months since we moved into Merrill Gardens and I feel very lucky to have chosen them for our retirement home. Joyce is still as happy as she can be. I haven't changed a single thing in my apartment and love to be in it. If I had 5 stars to give Merrill Gardens, I would give them 7. I just wanted to take a few minutes to give an honest review of the Renton Merril Gardens. My dear mother in law has been here for the last 5 plus years. It has been a positive experience for her, the outings, the special events, the cleanliness and care they all give is wonderful! Shelly, the head director is such a hard worker and really cares about all the residents, she works tirelessly, and is so kind! Heidi the event planner and working with her is Debbie and Keri, they all work seamlessly together and put all the touches on food and event decorations to make everything feel so special! They have been a great help to our family as we are planning my mothers 90 th birthday party, their love and care for the residents can't be missed. I feel so grateful for all of them and to know that my mother in law is in great hands.

Father's day luncheon was excellent. Favorite was the beef brisket that apparently was cooked by the Merrill Gardens Kitchen staff on their smoker the day before. It sounded like they spent a lot of time to be sure that it came out good, and boy did it ever! It was excellent! Thanks for you focus and efforts to make a special day more special.

Having a loved one develop progressive dementia is heart wrenching. When the time came for our family to look for an assisted living facility, we were told to observe the mood of the staff and residence during the tour. This was the best advise we could have been given. During our tour, nearly every resident and employee at Merrill Gardens Renton appeared happy, and or content. The facility has every amenity that you could want, is clean and well maintained, and the food is excellent. Most of all the staff are very supportive and caring, they are like family to us.

We had the pleasure of being neighbors with Merrill Gardens in Renton for three wonderful years, and it was a truly unique experience. To top it off, my husband started working in their kitchen, which allowed us to get to know their staff even better. Everyone at Merrill Gardens was not just polite, but helpful and kind. They made us feel like a part of their extended family, always willing to lend a hand. It was a two-way street of support and care. We had the pleasure of watching Merrill Gardens grow during our time there. They started with one building, and then they expanded to build another right across the street from our apartment. The growth was impressive, and it mirrored the growth of the warm community they fostered. Our years in Renton, living across from Merrill Gardens, were filled with fond memories and positive interactions with the staff. It was a pleasure to see this community flourish, and we're grateful to have been a part of it. I can't recommend Merrill Gardens highly enough for their kindness, hospitality, and commitment to their residents and staff.

I just moved my mother into Merrill Gardens. I chose it after visiting 5 properties over the past couple of months and it felt right. (It was well maintained, they had lots of activities, the employees were so nice and seemed to care about the residents, and most importantly, the residents seemed happy.) My mother has been made to feel so welcome this first week from adding her photo to a big display with the other new residents to escorting her to meals and finding her groups of people they thought she would get along with. They have also been so supportive and helpful to me over the past few weeks as I have slowly moved her belongings in. It really feels like a home.

On top of that they are excellent at communicating with me and making sure I know the best way to support her as well. Very happy we made the move to the Merrill Gardens.

Ive lived at Merrill Gardens for more than five years now and this is my home. I cant think of another place I would rather be. The staff is like family. They are always available to help when needed or just to chat and make you feel better. The surroundings are beautiful but comfortable. There are always friends in the large open living room either playing games or just enjoying the ambiance. The food is good and the dining room is open all day so one can eat whenever. Ive come to think of the staff and residents as my family and I love them dearly.

Merrill Gardens at Renton Centre is truly a blessing for the peace of mind I have for my mother. She has been a resident there for 2.5 years and I am grateful for the abundance of personal loving care the staff at Merrill Gardens show towards her-residents. I appreciate how Shelley and Lilia keeps family informed of everything that goes on activities and other pertinent information especially during this time of COVID 19 since I-we are not free to enter the building now. They have been so good at making sure that their community is free of any cases of the virus asking that we all follow protocol as needed. I must add too that I would hot hesitate to recommend Merrill Gardens Renton Centre as a place for excellent care when needed for a love one.

My mother has lived at MG Renton for over 5 years. During that time she has transitioned from being fully independent to needing quite a bit of assistance with tasks of daily living. Throughout all the staff has been very caring and helpful. When things do come up, they are very responsive to my questions and concerns. Its a very welcoming place and I really feel that all the staff have the welfare of residents at the forefront of their approach. They have been really careful during Covid and their precautions have successfully kept the whole facility safe and virus free!

My mother just moved into Merrill Gardens about a month ago, right after my father recent passing. Lilia was the one who helped us and greeted us to Merrill Gardens. We instantly felt a connection with the staff there. Everyone made it feel so warm and welcoming. We could not be more happy with choosing Merrill Gardens. I feel extremely lucky that we found this place for my mother. I know this is somewhere I can see her living for the rest of her life. It has a sense of community, so many activities, walking distance to just about anything you need, trails along the Cedar River, the food is good, the personal communication between the staff and myself,.. I can not find one single thing that I would change or give it anything less than 5 stars for. I would give it 10 stars if I could. There is No place better. Top notch!

My mother lived at Merrill Gardens Renton Centre for 11 years. It was a very good senior residence choice when she first moved in, and has has continuously improved over time. When she moved there in her early 80’s she was independent, still driving, shopping, visiting family and friends, etc. She just wanted to downsize and simplify in preparation for the future. Over 11 years time, existing and future aging and medical issues would gradually slow her down and reduce her mobility and independence. But the many friendships she made over the years, both with residents and staff, sustained her quality of living. She passed recently, but was able to stay in familiar surroundings in her apartment through hospice care. The care and support given by the remarkable staff during this difficult time, from top to bottom, was amazing. We are grateful to all the staff at Merrill Gardens for the dedication and compassion, and love, that they consistently bring to work every day. They richly deserve a Five Star rating.

After much research on assisted living facilities from Seattle to Bellevue, NewCastle to Kirkland and finally to Renton my siblings and I have placed our mother in a temporary facility while waiting for availability at Merrill Gardens in Renton. Our mother has been living at MG at Renton for 4 months now and we have no regrets except praise for Shelley, Lilia and their wonderful staff. The location is not far from the center of Renton yet tucked away on a quiet street. The environment is extremely kempt, spacious, functional, invitingly attractive but most importantly there's a very warm and homely feeling. A resident could take long walks outside for fresh air on the second floor patio all within secured railings and without going outside of their compound. Their versatile monthly activity list includes something enjoyable for every resident. Each holiday or season would bring special events, i.e., live performances. There is no set time for meals so residents can choose when to have breakfast, lunch or dinner between 7am - 7pm without having to worry about missing a set scheduled meal time. Their food is made of fresh quality ingredients and there is an abundance of fresh fruits for the residents at all times. The chief chef, Heidi, polls for likes and dislikes from the residents and works hard to prepare and serve palatable meals. All staff members are well trained on being service oriented so you won't find a a discourteous staff member. My siblings and I are grateful to the team that runs Merrill Gardens in Renton as we know our mother is in good hands. Thank you very much.
