A friend is staying there while she waits test results for some neurological disorder. Hoping to get a diagnosis after another test in a couple of days. She says the staff is great, very polite and patient. My friend shares a two-bed room with a fairly advanced Alzheimer's patient. Poor thing. Physically, the facility feels a little rundown. The exhaust fan in the bathroom makes a terrible racket. And the two TVs are on the same frequency (for lack of a better word). If one occupant turns on or off the TV or changes a channel with the remote, the other TV follows suit. And the audio comes from the TVs themselves. Her roommate is hard of hearing, so that's annoying. The common spaces seem dull, but ok and clean. The jury is still out on food since everything was pureed today. My friend gets solid food starting tomorrow. Her daughter and I picked up Mexican food from a nearby restaurant tonight. If need be, I could spend a few days there, but I wouldn't put my mom there long-term if we could afford some place nicer. I have no idea what this place costs per day. I assume it's cheaper than what a room at Multicare Allenmore, who referred there through at least Monday.

I came here because I was very ill. I ended up coding twice in the hospital. All the staff here is super nice and very caring. Bob, Hollie, Modesty, Jeanna, and Leand and everyone else is super nice and respectful. From the bottom of my heart, I will never forget how great everyone is. Thank you everyone, and God Bless you all.

I love everybody here and look forward to living here for a long period of time if everybody can learn how to love each other.

They have really been helping me. The pt and ot are top notch. The nursing staff is overwhelmed but they do really care. The admission people are awesome. Terra is really cool and nice and cares. The social worker here McKenna really really cares. The food is not bad. I really thought it would be like hospital food but It is home cooking. The only complaint I have is my next door neighbor is really loud. Oh and have snacks and sodas or drinks so that when the kitchen closes you have something besides water. Most of my neighbors are really nice people. The smell of urine is strong. They don't change the linen very often. You have to ask for your meds.

I spent two weeks at Canterbury House rehabilitating after a hospital stay. The first day was rough. It may have been because my ride was late, but no one met me when I arrived that first night. I really had no idea what to do. They had just shampooed the carpets and the stench was horrendous! My wife brought an air freshener for the room. It wasn't so bad after that and I may have become desensitized, but they need to do something about the smell after cleaning the carpet. It was done in my room a couple of times because of my roommate’s incontinence. Next, no one bothered to ask what I might want for dinner. I was brought a big pile of flavorless mac & cheese and mushy peasI had my wife bring me outside food. For the first three days, I had no choice in what food I had. Finally, someone came in and took my menu preferences for the next week. Overall, my stay was uneven. The OT & PT staff, Ng, Joe, and Josh were excellent. However, they need perhaps one more person to cover when one of them takes a PTO day. That cost me one PT session. They were all extremely personable and listened to my needs but were also encouraging and skilled in their jobs. The non-care staff was also excellent. A special call out to MaKenna and Sabrina. They were both extremely responsive and knew their stuff. Sabrina went well beyond her job description to help me on more than one occasion. She was a ball of energy! The skilled nursing staff were good at best, most were pleasant, but their care ranged from good to poor. Most seemed to have reasonable skills, some needed work. Most were responsive, but many were not. Long waits for pain meds were not uncommon. The unskilled care staff has a few standouts such as Peter, but for the most part, this was the weakest point of my experience. Most had English as a second language or at least heavily accented English. Communication was very hard. One of them had no business being there. Fortunately, she seemed to work weekends only. She made it obvious that she literally didn't understand basic human anatomy. Once I got a menu, the food ranged from poor to good. It was all very bland with smaller than expected portions. Vegetables were cooked to death. Fruit was good. Beverage options were poor. Other serious problems I had were related to my being fat. The first bariatric bed was barely wide enough. I was there for almost a week when I had my Care Conference with key staff to assess my progress and plan for my future care. Bob the director, sat in which was not the norm. He offered a wider bed, and I had one the next day. In fact, everything I needed that he offered was handled quickly. If he hadn't chosen to sit in on that meeting my entire stay would have been worse. Why didn’t anyone before him offer me a wider bed? It made such a difference. The only sturdy chair without arms was an upholstered chair in the library. They expected that fat patients would use their wheelchair to sit. That is not a comfortable option. And until I was ambulatory enough to get out of the chair on my own, it was no option. If you have a roommate, the rooms are very small so it's hard to move stuff around. Getting a bariatric wheelchair behind the table to eat dinner while watching TV was almost impossible. It sounds like a small thing, but it means a lot when you're stuck in a room for most of the day. There didn't seem to be air conditioning in the room and the window only opened two inches. It was over 80 degrees some of the days I was there. Someone on staff found me a fan which was taken away a few days later as it turned out that it belonged to another patient. I had to have my wife bring a couple fans from home. There were other oddities and annoyances and a few pleasant surprises. Overall, the place was well maintained and clean. If I had to go there again, I would. This is the only care facility I've been to and I'm sure some places are better and some are worse. But I'd know how to navigate this place to better have my needs met early on.

I would like to recognize all the CNA, LPN, RN in the facility. Your dedication and commitment to providing quality care do not go unnoticed. Whether its offering comfort to a patient, supporting a family, or working long hours to meet the needs of others. I also want to give gratitude towards the administration team. Thank you for your hard work, problem solving, and dedication behind the scenes. Your efforts may not always be seen by everyone, but they are absolutely essential.

Hello. My name is Lionell and I just left the Canterbury House. My experience was over all pleasant. The admission team are wonderful. Those ladies make you feel welcome. Some of the nurses and CNA’s were great too. Also the activities team were great as well. There were some problems to be honest. Their response to the residents needs was very slow. There were times that I had to do things myself or just forget about it. Also the food quality and menu could improve. But there were a few people I will truly miss. And thank them as well. I did make some friends there.

I recently had to place my loved ones in rehab and it was not an easy decision to make for any loved ones. The admission staff was extremely helpful and caring during my whole process. I would recommend them to anyone needing to place their loved ones.

My family and I chose Canterbury House after doing a tour of the facility. The reviews on here worried us but once we observed the facility and staff we felt much better about sending our grandmother here. She ended up staying for 3 months for antibiotics and rehabilitation. The food was decent and the care was fast. She left better then when she came in and that's all that matters to us. I would recommend touring this facility

My brother was placed at Canterbury following his 2nd stroke, memory loss, Severe emphysema. He was bedridden on oxygen. I visited most days after work to be with him and care for his needs. Then Covid lockdown happened and his family could not visit. No telephone was available. Phone calls at the nurse's station were rarely picked up. I had purchased a flip phone which my brother used for years to communicate with. I was told that it was not charged and asked for it to be on constant charge as I had left it. I still couldnt get through. I was told that the desk phone was available if he could get to it. I couldn't get anyone to take him in a w/c. I received a call from the ARNP, Anne Marie, when my brother was going downhill. We were able to spend time together in the end, and he passed knowing that he was loved. We are so grateful to her! She is a truly wonderful example of caring that counts. Caroline and night crew were also wonderful. I must mention someone who could brush up on her people skills: Stephanie, Social work director. She was caustic in her dealings with us and tried to bar us from putting my brother in hospice while he was at Canterbury. I realize that this was a stressful time, but professionalism and a TINY bit of empathy goes a long way!

I was really reluctant to come to this nursing home, I had a very bad experience in the past with my grandmother in a similar home. The gentleman from the admissions department gave me his personal cell phone number so I could call him at any time and talk to him, and assured me that this place was different. I decided to give it a chance. I found him very understanding and caring, and believe me I was scared to come. Coming in to heal from a major neck I jury, and i am younger than most people in this type of environment, so when I arrived, I was greeted by housekeeping, who showed me around and she has been a big support during my stay here. I want to start with the food, because that was one of the big complaints that I saw. Be advised I worked in the restaurant industry and grew up in an Italian family, therefore I feel I know good food and good service. Therefore I am very picky. The kitchen staff is AMAZING, the food was excellent, and I did not have a meal that I didnt like. And if there wasnt something on my plate that I wanted or didnt want, they made me something different. The kitchen manager went above and beyond to comply with my wants and needs, and did it with a smile. The people that served meals were always very kind and caring. The meals are served to us and we are waited on just like in a restaurant. I dont think the people get the thanks they deserve, so I would like to give a big thank you. You guys were great! I never saw anyone mistreated, and they're waited on hand and foot. The nurses are great, everyone was more than capable of answering any and all questions that I had, and if they didnt have an answer, they directed me to someone who could help. And major cudos to social services, they were very on top of my case, and fixed errors that were made after I discharged from the previous place that I was at. I never smelt a single stench or odor, like I remember as a child. Everyone is very well taken care of. So if I was to say anything negative at all, I think the government needs to give these places more assistance. These places are short staffed and underpayed at the hands of the government. I just want to thank everybody, and let people know that the staff here isn't just employees, they become friends; and for others they become family. People here are abandoned and have nobody, and there are those that just need help, and from what I've seen, everyone has done their job. I plan on coming back to volunteer, and these people have become my life long friends. Again, thank you guys for everything!

My father needed skilled nursing to help him regain his strength before returning home after a hospital stay. His therapy was good, but outside of therapy, he was left alone in a wheel chair. He had his strength back within a week, and still he was not sent home. What we did not realize is that whether he needed more help or not, if his insurance covered 3 weeks, they were going to keep him for 3 weeks, longer if possible. It is the exact kind of place you would never want to see a loved one stay, depressing, smelly, drab, lonely. Patients left in wheel chairs. We had a hard time getting him released because Canterbury didn't want to lose the income. Find a place that cares about the patient more than the insurance money. This is not it.

They took great care for my kids grandma and can't thank them enough for how they helped us and my family with caring for my kids grandma. If they ever need fireworks, they can come to Sons of Thunder fireworks at Firecracker Alley and my family will help them with the best deals. Also, I can't thank them enough for their care and support. They made a difficult situation better. We all want to say, Thank you Canterbury Employees and staff. From Villegas family.
