It has been 6 months since my mother passed away from Alzheimers. She became a resident at Harmony at Harbour View in 2021; and lived in the same room with my father in Memory Care. My father did not need memory care but refused to leave my mother. He passed away in 2023. My father had a cell phone and was able to call me and share accurate information on the lack of care at Harmony at Harbour View. For 4 years, I met continuously, regarding issues, with each new director (5 total in 4 years), spoke with individuals from the regional corporate office, and had one discussion with someone at the corporate office in South Carolina. Essentially nothing changed over the 4 years. There were a few staff members that were excellent (Keisha, Farrah, Shontae, Debbie, Tiffany, Isa and Irma; and a few I did not know the names). Harmony at Harbour View looks nice, but what you are told will be done, and what actually happens are 2 different things. Medication was not given for multiple reasons including lack of staff, medication not available, and/or staff documented medication was given when it was not given. Family members fill out multiple pages at the time the family member moves in, but this is a waste of time. It is filed and no one reads the information. My mother had orders for her food to be cut up, and it was not. I have a video that shows her trying to stuff a full pork chop in her mouth. I have pictures of my mother trying to eat a Styrofoam box because no one checked on her after she was given a boxed meal in her room. Frequently my mother was sitting in urine and feces soaked clothes, as she had not been changed in hours. I had to hire a personal attendant to stay with my mother for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, because Harmony at Harbour View was not providing the care that was listed in the contract. Administrators did not answer many emails. Administrators would not provide copies of information that I was entitled to have as my mother’s POA. In my mother’s final week of life, when she was in significant pain, there were continuous issues with her getting medication, including someone intentionally withheld her medication, as well as when medication arrived from the pharmacy, it was not placed on the med cart, and was missing. I had to demand that someone go and find the medication. Keisha was my angel at that time. I sent a 16 page document through the complaint line that is listed on the Harmony website with a list of multiple examples of the negligence. No one contacted me regarding the complaints. After 2 months of no response, I called the corporate office in South Carolina, stating I had submitted this formal complaint but had not heard from anyone. The corporate office referred me to a specialist in my area to obtain follow up. That specialist asked me to email the 16 page document to the regional director which I did. After one week of no response from the regional director, I sent another email. Again no response for another week. I then called the specialist back. Of course, after that phone call, the regional director responded to my email with an apology. People would ask all the time why I did not move my mother to another facility. I learned over time, there were issues at all the memory care facilities in my area. For people reading this, what I hope you learn is just because a facility tells you something is happening “ it does not mean it is happening. If you are not at the facility on a regular basis, or you do not have a private caregiver, then you don’t know what is happening. If you want to know what is happening at mealtime, you need to be there at mealtime. If you want to know if your loved one is getting their medication, you need to be there around at the times medications are administered. If your family member has dementia, they will not be able to tell you what is happening, and the staff knows that. One of the most honest comments said to me from one of the directors was: we will not take as good of care of your family member as you would.

I spoke to my mother tonight. They have had no hot water for about a week?! They are old people who have accidents and are having to deal with taking spit baths with cold water? Unacceptable..Was there a offer of a hotel room to at least bath in? People pay for this type of living for a reason...So they and family members know they have what they need. A week without hot water would infuriate anyone having to smell their selves and how nasty their hair feels. The owner can answer this since no one answered the phone and I could not leave a message..

Harmony has a lot going for it but the "delicious food" they promise is not it. They are happy to take their very generous rent each month but refuse to do anything to make meal time what these Seniors deserve. My father has been trying for at least 6 months to get someone to listen to him about the terrible food and service they are forced to endure but no one is willing or capable to make the necessary changes. Harmony did however just spend a large sum redecorating the front lobby - which was practically brand new to begin with. Too bad they didn't put that money into a good salary for a competent Food Service director. Asking residents to eat food that is cold when it arrives to the table, inedible, or never being served at all is downright elder abuse. Most of these people can't cook for themselves so they rely on getting good, quality food from Harmony. They can't even opt out of the meal plan, trust me we've ask but that has fallen on deaf ears. At almost every "townhall" meeting the residents complain about the food. The director attends these meetings so they are well aware but will not do anything to make the necessary changes. These are our elders. They worked hard their entire lives, and now when they need to be taken care of - they are served subpar food. It's downright shameful. Harmony definitely doesn't deliver what it promises, food is not something that should be negotiable.

By all standards of measurement, Harmony at Harbour View is an outstanding facility providing world class services for the assisted living, independent living and memory care residents respectively. While recently looking for a high quality facility for a family member, our search led us to Harmony at Harbour View and without mincing word, we were just blown away with the warmth with which were received at the front office. In our further interractions with the various members of staff, it became very apparent that the culture of excellence is well established in the facility. Words would fail me to truly express the depth of my satisfaction on the standard of care being provided in the facility. Keep up the great work Harmony!

Annette is the BEST lead housekeeper that I have encountered in the 4 years that I have been a resident here! She is extremely conscientious and personable in accomplishing all of the tasks in her job description in my knowledge. Friendly, compassionate, and the "COMPLETE PACKAGE in the performance of ALL of her tasks. From my perspective she has all of the qualities required and is loved by all who know her for a SUPERIOR rating. She makes this a better place for all the residents that live here!

There is so much to experience at Harmony with Senior living at it's finest. Every day is something new with activities for every lifestyle, movies, outings to ballgames or plays, crafting in spacious activity rooms, and music every day. You can enjoy learning a card game around a table of friends or playing Bingo in a full room, Billiards regulars are always willing to teach their skill to newcomers and you can always find laughs and stories at Happy Hour! I love the food and the fun, but nothing tops the friendship and love shared within the walls of this beautiful place. With kind and caring staff who make each day special, this place would get 10 stars from me!

Harmony at Harbour View is a hidden treasure nestled in Suffolk Va surrounded by Western Branch (Chesapeake) & Churchland (Portsmouth) . I can honestly say, the staff here truly love their residents. They are dedicated, hard working, salt of the earth people. Harmony has it all, Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care, a movie theater, library, beauty salon, gym, on site physical therapy, breakfast, lunch, dining services, cafe, pub for happy hours, game room, transportation service, activities, daily exercise, games, outings, entertainment, you name it this place has it and is literally a one stop. I have personally sampled the food and its 5 stars for sure, chef Eric and his staff does a great job. I have no doubts when it comes to where to bring my loved one. Please do your research before moving a loved one into this facility. They are understaffed and do not respond to emergencies in a timely manner. Meds are given out late, as are meals. If you walk the halls where the residents live, you will see that things are starting to look really worn and they are not being maintained well. Residents do not get what they pay for. Please go to the Social Services page for the state of Virginia and dig around on the state inspections that have been done here and the number of complaints that they have had. No place is going to be perfect, but there are better places for your loved one to live.

i feel like i have a home with the welcome i have received from the other folks here . Neighbors have let me know when activities happen and when meals are so i dont miss a thing. My accommodations are like living in an apartment on my own. Having a living room, bedroom, bathroom, dining area, and kitchen with a refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher,and range top make Harmony Top Shelf. I also have a washer dryer combo. I also play golf and there's a championship course seven tenths of a mile from the facility .The club offers daily fees and memberships are available. Like the facility, the staff is professional and eager to help any way they can. I have had several dealings with the concierge and they have gone above and beyond for me.I am so happy to be here.

So far having only moved my Dad in 2 weeks ago Harmony has been very good for him and our family as well knowing he is safe and receiving some good rehab therapy. We will continue to monitor his care and well being as he makes this difficult journey!

The Concierge staff, especially Amber and Mrs. Cripps, have always been very nice in helping a newcomer with all my little problems, as has Vivian Hall. The food has been excellent, thanks to Eric. The wait staff is friendly, and always responsive to requests. While meals sometimes take longer than I like, on occasion when I've indicated I am in a hurry, Sherry, Jamari, Naisha, Kirkley and Ty and others whose names I cannot remember (or spell) have helped expedite the meal. Only one resident I've met has not been pleasant. There are countless activities I haven't had time to even consider. Mayra and I have discussed the housekeeping, and she's very cooperative. The trash/garbage disposal is amazingly simple and the people involved are very friendly. The paucity of lighting everywhere except the bathrooms is way below what Seniors need. I'm surprised when I enter 403 and there's no light switch immediately adjacent to the door. I'm sure the facility's electric bill is higher than necessary because there is only one ceiling fan in 403, so the air conditioning has to be used for longer periods, when a fan with lights would improve both situations. All in all, I'm quite pleased with my decision to move to Harmony at Harbour View. James Granger, CDR, USCG (Ret)

This is extremely hard for me to write this. I just feel strongly that I need to publicly express my heart felt thanks and appreciation to the local staff and management team at Harbour View. We came to Harmony at Harbour View almost four years ago. Took up residency on the independent living side of this facility. Just about 20 months ago it became necessary for my wife of 57 years to be moved to memory care. Then we got slammed with the Covid-19 crisis and the subsequent over reactions by the regulator authority authorities who control facilities like this. Twelve weeks ago, I lost my wife. Through all our time here the local staff and management team facing the realities or high staff turnover and ever-changing legal rules and regulations have consistently made me feel cared for and supported. And I know my wife would agree. Could our experiences have been better? Perhaps, but I will always remain grateful for whatever destiny that led us to Crossings in late 2017.

Dad enjoyed his independent apartment at Harmony for the 3 years he was there! Since I live 4 hours away from Suffolk, he agreed to move to an assisted living facility near me this May, but misses his friends at Harmony which include the staff! Everyone I encountered was caring - admin, housekeeping, food service, events, maintenance and ST/PT/OT in Genesis Therapy. The events are excellent - always geared to and appropriate for adults! Some facilities tend to treat their residents as if they are children, but not Harmony...I was always impressed with the variety of excellent activities at Harmony: live music in the Pub, movies in the theater, themed dinners and excursions. When Dad stopped driving, he could still go to the grocery store and doctor's appointments by taking Harmony's transportation. The past year was tragic and I felt for the families who lost their loved ones due to COVID which I learned about in the email updates. Harmony got their residents vaccinated this year in January/February - much faster than most facilities in my area. I wish everyone at Harmony a wonderful rest of 2021 and thank you all for making my father's three years there happy ones!

We moved my folks here from NC to be close to us. We wanted them to be somewhere we trusted. We are so happy with Harmony at Harbourview. Vivian Hall and all the staff have been so helpful. The move in went seamlessly. My parents are so pleased with their apartment. We have peace of mind now knowing that they are well cared for. Thank you Harmony at Harbourview for everything!

We are getting ready to enter Harborview and there was an issue on the care level for myself. After speaking with Jennifer in Sales and Debbie in Nursing, the issue was quickly resolved and I am very happy with the results. Since the very first time we sought help here, we have be treated like family and feel totally comfortable with our decision to locate here in the coming days. We believe that it will be a GRRREAT place to live, now and in the future, with all the support that we will need.

Mom really likes Harmony, moved in during Covid and it all went smoothly. Great, updated, sunny apartment, loves the meals, staff and new friends. Rehab staff, Alicia and Clair, have improved Mom’s quality of life. Harmony gives me ( daughter) peace of mind.
