Prior to my mother coming to Bickford, we were struggling with keeping her at home where she wanted to stay and having her placed in assisted living where we knew she could get the extra 24 hour care that was now needed. Since moving into Bickford her mobility and cognition have improved. She now is able to receive her medications on a regular schedule and now receives physical therapy as needed to help her maintain her strength and mobility. If she is not willing to go down for meals they make sure she has them delivered to her room. Anytime we ask them to do laundry on non-laundry days all we need to do is place her bin outside her door. When we come for visits the staff is very attentive, welcoming, and informs us of any concerns.

My mom moved into Bickford at the end of January and we are so happy she has a beautiful and safe place to live. The staff treat her like family and she has also made new friends among the residents. She loves the food and enjoys so many activities that they offer as well as concerts that they have. It feels like home and family here and it gives us reassurance that my mom is loved and safe. My mother-in-law moved into Assisted Living at Bickford of Suffolk a number of months ago. We have been delighted with her care, the high level of engagement of the staff with the residents, and the number of activities to keep her engaged. The facility is beautiful, she loves the food, and has made new friends. We have found the staff to be very communicative when there are issues, and it is evident that they truly care about what they are doing. Kudos Bickford!

My first experience at Bickford of Suffolk was years ago when I visited a church friend. Porch furniture and potted plants invited me into a lovely home. The living room was filled with smells of dinner and comfortable furniture around the fireplace where residents participated in an activity. I was an unexpected visitor, who was welcomed by smiling staff. My friend was comfortable, relaxed and excited to see me. I tucked these memories away for the time I or a loved one might need assisted living. A year ago, Bickford came to mine when my Mom was in need. The home still looks new and the furniture and decor fresh and clean. My Mom is happy, social, and thriving with a purposeful life. I believe her success is the result of pleasant surroundings, stimulation provided by an active staff and appropriately planned activities. She enjoys her apartment on the courtyard and having her quiet time. Using her walker she takes strolls around the square visiting with residents. She loves going to the church services and Bible studies. Special events involving children and young adults providing music and entertainment are fun times for her. Breakfast is her favorite meal. I, too, enjoy being at Bickford and coming and going as I please, visiting Mom about three times a week, sometimes with grandson in tow. He is always excited to go to Granny's house. We know many of the residents and staff by their first name. Coordination staff Amber, Corrina, Jackie, Kendra, and Tony always are smiling and good problem solvers. I see the caregivers working for my Mom and other residents to make meals, laundry, cleaning, dressing, and bathing an interactive and pleasant time. My family and I have get-togethers at Bickford and feel at home. My Mom's sister visited from out of state and spent the night. They had no complaints and had a great time together making new memories. I feel strongly that the staff are willing to do what it takes to get my Mom to smile, be social and to be her best. What I see helps me know that they are providing what my Mom needs and are doing a job that I could not do alone. Thank you to all who have made Bickford my Mom's home.

In 2018, my wife was evaluated as a hospice patient with dementia. My son (Scott) agreed that we would not be able to provide the care she would need and began looking for an assisted living facility. My son lived in Suffolk, VA and discovered a new facility named Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care. Upon investigating, we found just what we wanted, being new and only one mile from Scott's home was a big plus and I quickly moved to his home from VB. My wife was treated with care and compassion for 13 months before succumbing to complications of dementia. When another fall broke my other hip, I chose to move into Bickford because of the care my wife received. I became a resident in Feb, 2025 and have had no regrets. Concerns of all residents are discussed at monthly resident/management meetings and corrected as needed. I went there to inquire about a place for my aunt. I went without an appointment and unannounced on a Saturday. Upon walking into the facility it was very clean and smelled great. The staff was very pleasant and inviting. A med tech named Khandis, let me know that there wasn't anyone present to give me a tour, but she willingly offered her services. She did an excellent job giving me that tour. I could see how the residents loved her and offered her hugs. I was beyond pleased with this facility. I would live there myself. It's nice to see facilities that are ran correctly, thank you! Not sure if my aunt will be able to afford this facility, but if so I believe that she will not be disappointed and my family will feel safe with her being there.

When it came time to find a place for Mom, my sis and I visited quite a few places before going The Bickford of Suffolk. The moment we arrived we were met with friendly smiling people and knew that this was the place. We haven’t been disappointed. Mom is so very well taken care of. It’s like she (and us) have new family members but even better. Mom is very content at Bickford because she knows they care about her. They show it by their actions. And we all know that actions speak louder than words. Hats off to all the folks there for going the extra mile every day.

The Bickford Senior Living is a well organized place. I have visited several relatives in other facilities and Bickford is the best. The staff are very friendly with years of experience. I was very impressed with how clean and well maintained the entire building was. The place is secure and safe.

The Bickford of Suffolk is a beautiful, clean building. It is a great atmosphere if you have a loved one looking for an assisted living or needing memory care. The staff are wonderful. My mother-in-law has been at Bickford assisted living for many years. This is the most amazing facility. It's one level, always decorated beautifully, very clean, the staff is always smiling, and it feels like home as soon as you walk in. Everyone that works there goes above and beyond for my mother-in-law....director, nurse, kitchen staff, cleaning crew, maintenance, activities director, etc.. We are so blessed to have Bickford. The staff has family meetings throughout the year which is great. They answer questions, talk about Bickford happenings, and it's a great way to connect with everyone. The director is amazing, and answers my emails and concerns right away. The nurse is also wonderful with communicating any concerns my mother-in-law may have. The activities directors are wonderful.....always decorating, having really fun and creative activities, positive, nice, and just so great with the residents. This past year with Covid has been very challenging. The staff went above and beyond to keep my loved one safe, happy, not stressed, and healthy. Of course it was hard not being with her for a long time, but I completely understood. It was more important the residents and workers were healthy. The staff went through so many safety precautions and protocols during Covid. Everyone went through difficult times with Covid. Bickford communicated with us, and got us through the hard days. I truly appreciate how they are all working together in a positive way to get back to normal. I am so grateful for Bickford and all they do each day.

I'm the daughter of a resident who has lived there over a year. While my father has dementia, he is still able to do things for himself to a certain extent. He has fallen two times after which I have received immediately a call letting me know how he was and the extent of any injuries. A medical condition developed recently and the attention he got from the nursing staff was excellent which, for me, is of primary importance. They haven't had any Covid cases so the protocols they follow are very effective and proof of their conscientiousness. It's small and intimate and I like the staff very much.

Beautiful place. Unfortunately, it falls short in many aspects. They changed my father's medication without even telling us, and that was medication my father was put on by his heart doctor, and after informing him, he was put back on it. That alone is a MAJOR issue. The Physician Assistant (PA) has an attitude. My father arrived the end of May, and ended up going downhill until he passed away in October. And to top it off, the Director never provided any condolences or said anything. Another facility in the area actually provides a memorial ceremony if one of their patients passes away, a nice way to show they care. Bickford doesn't do that. Pros - Beautiful environment, all on first floor. Jenny, the host, is very good at what she does. The maintenance guy is great and very helpful. Most of the staff are nice. Cons - insufficient care of patients for the money paid, perhaps due to needing more staff as the current staff is multi-tasked. I stopped by to check on my father one afternoon, knocked on his door, and he hollered for help as he had fallen and was laying the bathroom floor. No idea how long he had been laying there, or how long he would have remained there had I not stopped by. Needs a new PA. The Director either needs training or replacing. Never saw the doctor that supports that facility, EVER. All unacceptable for the amount of money (thousands) we were paying. EDIT AFTER OWNER RESPONSE BELOW: I find it sad that the first thing the owner says is "I'm sorry YOU feel this way", instead of "I'm very sorry for your loss". When the owner points out how I feel, rather than express ANY sympathy, or take any ownership of the problems, or at least make a statement that they would investigate and see what could be done better, it should be an obvious concern for anyone else considering putting a loved one here. Perhaps the problems start at the ownership level.
