I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional care and professionalism shown to my parents at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe. Transitioning from independent living to assisted living is a major life change, but the team here made the entire process incredibly smooth and stress-free. The staff treats them both with genuine love, respect, and profound patience. Every interaction is marked by kindness and consideration, which has made a meaningful difference in their quality of life. As an only child, managing the care of elderly parents can often feel overwhelming. The staff at Sunrise have made everything so much easier for me to handle. They are always available at a moment’s notice with helpful support and friendly advice. Their collaborative teamwork ensures that my parents receive consistent, comprehensive care and that no detail is ever overlooked. It is a huge relief to know they are in such dignified and capable hands. I highly recommend this community to any family looking for a loving and professional environment for their parents.

My Mother moved into Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe (SVT) for Independent/ Assisted Living in December 2020 during the pandemic. She has lived there for almost five and a half years at this point. The SVT staff has been wonderful to work with. The staff are genuinely interested in learning guests' likes/ dislikes/ requirements, keeping guests safe, and working hard to accommodate their needs. The rooms are well maintained, and support/ communication from the staff has been excellent. The Sales Director is very approachable, understanding, and easy to talk to. She did a great job helping our family find housing and care options at SVT that met my Mothers' budget, and answered my Mother's questions about Assisted Living, which significantly helped her transition from her home to SVT. The Lead Concierge is very friendly and a great source of information. Both of them are a joy to work with, and are great representatives of SVT. There are many activities scheduled each day, and my Mother has been taking advantage of them. I am very pleased that residents can go on trips to parks and other places to get them out of the building and enjoy the weather whenever possible. Transportation to/from Medical appointments is included in the Monthly price (two trips per month), which is so convenient and simplifies supporting my Mother. This has been a really nice journey with SVT, and our family is looking forward to continuing our relationship.

Wonderful experience in helping my parents choose a facility to meet their needs. Helpful staff, especially Ashley went above and beyond to educate us and help us feel welcome. Follow up after 3 yrs. Staff remains extremely helpful, respectful and attentive. Dining room OK, food seems adequate, not great. The biggest problem is billing, especially if someone is in their Reminiscence unit (memory care), bills escalate rapidly and their portal system for payments and keeping track of things is terrible, being months behind when it should be in real time. Also, some of the apts. in the older section lack some basics like disposals, diswashers, and adequate cabinet and drawer space. Overall nice though. Things like adequte hot water require constant maintenance, with usually attentive maintenance staff.

The staff, particularly. Ashley Nolte, were very knowledgeable in what Sunrise would be able to offer my loved one. There was no detail left out. Ashley was sure I understood the information I needed to know to make my decision. You felt like Ashley was part of your family trying to help you make a decision for your loved one. Tuckahoe is a beautiful facility, the dining room has great food, the facility is staffed well. All of the staff I met were very outgoing, pleasant and anxious to help.

When the time came to find assisted living facility for our parents, our mother felt very comfortable walking through the door. Sunrise felt familiar and the layout resembled the Independent Living facility they were coming from. Nearly 4 years later and when their needs required additional assistance, Sunrise stepped up to meet their needs. During our fathers final days the staff and hospice nurses worked closely together. As children of a resident, we are very involved and present in Sunrise Community. Our mother keeps herself busy volunteering within Sunrise, playing bingo, puzzles and other games with the many residents. Overall, we are pleased with Sunrise facility and staff and would recommend Sunrise to others. Staying involved in your love one's care is important and welcomed at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe.

My MIL lived here for 1 year, then moved to a different Sunrise one year ago. It was well-run, clean, friendly... so much of what you'd want. In the end it was to large a setting for MIL, which is why we moved her. Good staff. Ashley is great about touching base with folks who move in, to help them get involved and integrated. Karen in the business office and her two adorable weiner dogs that she generously lets socialize with residents and visitors. Vicky is a great activities director & so friendly. Carol was a fantastic nurse there. They also didn't charge us for repairs to the unit, even though they could have, after we moved my MIL out.

Only good if the resident is totally capable of caring for themselves. Poor response on all levels, except from the sales team, from staff. Poor cleaning of apartments, extended care lacking, staff ratios poor, facilities maintance poor. My father had a broken toilet for weeks and it was only fixed when my sister in law made a big issue of it. His apartment smelled! Why wasn’t cleaning crew on top of it? I could go on but there has to be better run and maintained facilities in the Richmond area. I am from out of state so don’t know the area well.

We toured a few facilities when it was time for my mom to move to memory care, and Sunrise was the clear winner. The facility is cheerful, welcoming, and well-run. Ashley, George and Jackie are laser-focused on making sure my mom is happy and taken care of, and they’ve been such a comfort to us during this transition. My mom’s been at Sunrise for a little over a week and is acclimated and doing well.

This facility is fine for seniors who are independently ambulatory and not in need of assistance with ADLs. Medication administration is managed well, but there is very little follow up to ensure medications are taken and there is no utilization/acuity review to ensure resident’s are receiving adequate care. The staffing ratios to resident acuity is also poor making it a risk for seniors who need assistance with transports. The hallways and doorways and bathrooms in the suites are not wide enough for a wheel chair to pass through easily.

My parents moved into Sunrise during the difficult time of COVID, but I am so grateful for the care and love that has been shown to them. This has been a challenging time for staff and residents, but I feel like the staff have been supportive and understanding while still having to follow protocol. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, and I know they are taking care of my parents. I feel we made the right choice when we chose Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe. My father recently passed away and I want to thank the staff for all they did for my family. Their compassion and kindness are beyond words. They continue to care for my mother and knowing they are checking on her brings peace to my siblings and me. They are amazing people!

My parents had a fantastic stay at Sunrise Tuckahoe. The whole staff of care givers and support were amazingly attentive and helpful during their months-long stay. (A big "shout-out" to Ashley and Mindy who were truly dedicated each step of the way.) Because of the good care they received, mum was able to move out of assisted living and into independent living. The whole family appreciates the compassionate and thorough approach at Sunrise. My parents also thought the food was wonderful, and the chef and crew were always willing to adapt from making sure they had ice tea to bringing something extra to them. Our family is deeply indebted to the good people here!

Our first experience with assisted living was a nightmare. We moved into a facility next door and it was a disaster. There we learned what assisted living should NOT look like. We came to Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe with high expectations and were not disappointed. We learned a lot (the hard way) and knew what to look for in a facility.The staff at Sunrise has taken great care of my mother and done all the extra things she has asked for. Ashley made the transition process smooth and Denise has done a terrific job managing my mother's care. We have been very happy and expect things will only get better as conditions return to normal.

My parents have been at Sunrise since August 2018. While it was hard to help them leave their home on 50 acres of family land, we supported their decision to downsize and live in a community that provides support and help when needed and is also close to two daughters' homes. Sunrise is well kept and clean. The staff is always friendly and receptive when I visit. Mom and dad are still living independently in a nice two bedroom apartment but know that help and assistance is nearby in the building if/when needed. We know that assisted living and memory care may be needed in the future and know that it will be available at that time. We won't need to find another home for them. Thank you to the Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe staff and team members for taking such good care of our parents.

Hello, this is Jim Hanifer. My wife,Betty & I have been living here at the Sunrise Villa-Tuckahoe for 2.5 years. My first remarks will be for the period up to March 2020 when all our lives were turned up side down. Because of both of us being hospitalized at the same time it was necessary for us to give up our retirement house so very close to a 1700 acre lake better known as Swift Creek Reservoir. We had done some preliminary planning and had already chosen a realtor and a senior relocation coordinator that was chosen by our two daughters. We both were and are very comfortable with these 2 professional in our corner. After a 42 year career as a Global Property Claims Adjuster, I became very active in my earlier volunteer commitments. These had to do with assisting folks with serious cancer issues. Also having been a Eucharistic Minister for 35 years, I had visited numerous health care facilities. Thus when we toured this facility I was extremely impressed by the Cleanliness, the friendly staff and very tasty food. Also they provide a great amount of various activities (Movies, Happy Hours) Exercise classes and a host of other activities including field trips and transportation for medical appointments. As we settled in and started making new friends with both residents and staff I started to get a real comfort level. This was our new home and we are free to decorate and hang pictures etc in our apartment. As time went by friendships were improving and our staff always greets us like passing in the hall with a smile and addressing us by name. They genuinely have our well being as their goal. The staff covers several different phases like administration, Medical House Keeping, Food Service, Activities etc. If one has a problem the door is open always whether it be a medical , financial to openly discuss any concern. I have developed my own little ministry here.I help newly arrived residents with some tips I have acquired over the years. I give the one of my cars with my phone numbers, Apt number and my e-mail.I do not force myself but most are happy to get some help when first moving in. It is in my chemistry to help people as in a earlier life I was b a life guard, Counselor and numerous volunteer gigs at the VA , American Cancer Society And a Volunteer firefighter for 16 years as our community had no Paid fire fighters. No facility can totally replace your home but Sunrise commits to creating a family relationship so that residents can maximize the benefits they provide. I without reservation would strongly endorse o0yr facility

My step mother who is suffering with Dementia, has been living at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe since January of this year. The staff welcomed her and provided excellent care helping her to acclimate to her beautiful apartment which surprisingly took only 2 weeks. It was a great decision choosing Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe as they welcomed her dog which was key and was such a comfort to our family. Their team have handled the strict Covid 19 restrictions and have managed to keep their residents and staff safe during this very difficult time. 2020 will go down in history for many reasons but it has been so comforting to know our loved one is well cared for and most of all, happy with her new friends at Sunrise.

My parents moved in during Covid, so understand that is a challenge. Move in was chaotic. The room and staff were not ready for them, so I brought them home with me for the night (very confusing for my dad). We moved them in the next day and were very disappointed at how dated the room was. It’s old and dingy, at the very least it needs a fresh coat of paint. Covid was the excuse. Okay. The maintenance manager James was extremely helpful and was the only one who went out of his way to try to make them feel welcomed. When they moved into an RUI property in Roanoke, they literally rolled out the red carpet and brought them champagne and treats. Again Covid limits some of that, but we weren’t even given a basic information packet. One of our biggest reasons for choosing this location was the balconies, only to be told dad requires too much assistance for a balcony room. That is a new policy and is terrible, esp. for Covid! Wherever you go, please be sure to have your phone set up before you move in. We did not and are still having trouble calling them. I wish they would just charge us and include phone in their service... these are not teenagers who understand cell phones! People there are friendly and work very hard, I know they don’t have an easy job. I just wish they would communicate regularly. A simple update weekly or evenly monthly would mean a lot, or a Facebook page where I could see what they are up to (guess I got use to that at their old facility). It’s all nice if you were getting a bargain, but for what they pay I’d like them to feel spoiled and they do not. RUI made them feel like they lived in a fancy resort. It’s just disappointing.

I moved my father into Gayton Terrace in 2012. He visited it frequently prior to moving in, in order to gather information. What impressed us was that whoever we asked to see would immediately come down to meet with us. This included the Director of Nursing, the Dietition, the Activities Director, and others. After moving in, my father regularly commented that he loved living there. I was watching for any inconsistencies in service, but never saw any. Until he passed later in the year, the staff was extremely conscientious and seemed to take a personal interest in his comfort and needs. No matter who I dealt with there, from the executive director to a housekeeper, everyone was willing to go out of their way to accommodate our wishes. The food was a big selling point in dad's decision. He ate several meals there prior to moving in and was impressed that they weren't "too salty." I understand that Gayton Terrace went through a transition in management that was a little rocky. But the result was a facility that made the final period of my dad's life a sheer joy. I encourage anyone who is looking to place a parent in assisted living to at least talk to someone at Gayton Terrace. I would also recommend that if your parent isn't too eager to move into assisted living, you tell them it's like living on a cruise ship. That's what I told my dad who wasn't thrilled about moving into assisted living. When he saw Gayton Terrace for himself, he immediately saw what I saw and couldn't wait to move in. Even though dad's gone, I will still visit Gayton Terrace from time to time and stay in touch with the many friends I made there.
