We moved my mother to Tall Oaks from a rehabilitation center after an injury based on our tour and meeting with the admissions representative. We had high hopes that this would be my mother's "forever home," however we ultimately ended up moving her out, because what we were promised (a 5-7 minute response time when my mom hit the call button -- for which we paid extra) was not the reality. My mom called for help to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and because no one came within 15-20 minutes (or at all), she got up herself and fell at least twice as a result. She was assessed at needing level 4 care, and we were assured that nurses would be attentive, but their response times and lack of attentiveness were a constant disappointment during her 3 month stay. The nursing staff was generally not kind and when it was brought up to management, there was little to no response -- let alone acknowledgement. The dining hall staff was attentive and helpful; the activities staff made things fun for residents by offering a variety of activities, and the physical and occupational therapy was simply excellent; however the nursing was below expectations. If your family member is mobile and needs less care, this facility may be fine for your needs, however anyone needing higher level care should do their research and be diligent in checking nursing support, attentiveness and timeliness of medication. I hope others' experiences are better than ours.

My mother and father spent their final years at Tall Oaks. We brought them there because of my mom's dementia and my father's increasing inability to care for her. The management was cooperative and willing to deal in ways that made a frankly very expensive obligation for us more affordable, while ensuring my parents were appropriately accommodated as their needs changed. The nursing staff were both dedicated and friendly, and my parents liked them a lot. Before my father passed, Tall Oaks allowed/encouraged us to mount a retrospective exhibit of his artworks that covered an entire floor. This was just one example of the family atmosphere that Tall Oaks has encouraged. We are grateful to Tall Oaks' staff for making our parents' final years as pleasant as their difficult medical circumstances allowed.

In my time at Tall Oaks I have found the environment to be one that is friendly and supportive. From the Executive Director through the department heads and to the administrative, support, and nursing/care staff, my experience has been they will work to satisfy the needs of the residents. It is said that laughter is the best medicine. Well, sometimes laughter needs an assist from chemical medicines, but being positive is an important aspect to any treatment plan. The environment I have experienced at Tall Oaks has been one that has nurtured my positive attitude contributing to an improved health outlook. I would whole heartedly recommend anyone looking for assisted living support check out Tall Oaks. I would make the choice again.

We are so thankful for the care, kindness and compassion my mother has been shown during her first month. It gives us great comfort knowing she is surrounded by people who treat her with dignity, patience, and warmth. The nursing staff gives her careful care and attention. The restaurant and dining staff is friendly and attentive. They know what she likes to eat and pays close attention to her preferences. The office and admission staff has been beyond helpful. They helped us navigate this new transition with patience and grace. The activities team is amazing and the activities are engaging. We love the "Life Loop" app that keeps us updated throughout the day. The housekeeping staff has kept her suite super clean and takes great care of her linens. The maintenance staff was super quick to solve her AC and blinds. The staff at Functional Pathways has been amazing helping her with speech/OT/PT and she is thriving. Tall Oaks Assisted Living had made a difference in our mother's life and ours. We are so thankful to call this place her new home.

Given its area, this place is a real gem. My mother moved her after a very disappointing change of ownership and leadership at nearby facility. The staff was great and really easy to work with. While the assisting staff was great, I do want to give a specific callout to the chef and cooking staff and the event staff. My mom always complimented the food and we really liked how the event staff incorporated families into the events. The area where it is located is convenient and has some great areas to walk nearby. There is a playground a few 100 meters away that allowed my mom to go for a manageable walk and watch her granddaughter play.

We recently moved my in-laws into Tall Oaks. We are very happy with our experience. The staff is so welcoming and warm, from housekeeping, to maintenance, to dining, and of course nursing. Allison made the admissions process as stress-free and straightforward as possible and was able to answer all of our questions. It is a lovely facility that feels like home.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this assisted living community! From the moment we first came in, we felt welcomed, supported, and cared for. Mavis, the Administrator, is truly outstanding. She goes above and beyond to make sure every resident and family feels heard, respected, and valued. A few months ago my wife moved into Tall Oaks Assisted Living. I visited a few places in the area but I was not impressed with them. However, when I entered Tall Oaks, I was amazed by the family style atmosphere. I was greeted by residents, nursing staff, and managers alike. I was particularly impressed by Allison, the head of marketing. I was given a full tour of the building and given every detail of the place. The dining room is restaurant style with a menu giving a variety of food for all meals. I have eaten there myself and can verify that the meals are seriously top quality! The residents are well cared for and the cosy, family style environment is a sight to behold. I overwhelmingly recommend Tall Oaks for all levels of needed care. I love to visit and I have even formed friendships with some of the residents. I would rate it top notch, and look no further.

After weeks of careful consideration, we selected Tall Oaks for our Mom's next phase of life. Admissions Director Allison and the staff were exceedingly efficient and helpful, making sure that her arrival went smoothly. Resident representative Missy literally greeted us with open arms. And when Mom expressed a fear of being on an upper floor, they found her an apartment at ground level so she could feel comfortable in her new home.

I cannot say enough good things about Tall Oaks Assisted Living in Reston, VA. This isn’t just an assisted living facility; it’s truly a community. From the moment you step in, the welcoming and kind atmosphere is evident. Everyone watches out for each other”whether it’s making sure a neighbor is at meals or encouraging participation in activities, it’s clear that care and support are shared by all. The building, while older, is well-maintained and full of charm. The maintenance team doesn’t just keep things in great shape, but they also go the extra mile to make sure each resident’s apartment is tailored to their specific needs. The contrast of the wallpaper, paint, and carpets makes it easier for my mom to navigate the building and know where she is. One of the highlights of Tall Oaks is the beautiful sunroom right at the front of the building. It’s the perfect spot for residents to gather for coffee or ice cream, and it allows everyone to keep up with what's going on in the community. However, the best feature by far is the large, sunny front porch. It’s a peaceful place to sit, soak up the sun, and greet visitors. It’s where you’ll often find a resident enjoying the outdoors, with a smile and a friendly wave. In fact, when my mom moved in, one resident sat next to the button for the door and pushed it as we approached. The residents all clapped when we carried in the heavy stuff! The staff at Tall Oaks is truly exceptional. I’ve never encountered such kind, considerate people in any care facility. It’s clear that the staff genuinely cares about the residents as well as one another. I often hear laughter and compliments exchanged between the staff and residents, and that positive energy makes it feel more like a family than a care facility. It's not just a job for them”it’s a community, and it shows. When it comes to care, the nursing staff at Tall Oaks is highly attuned to the individual needs of the residents. They know each person’s preferences and quirks, and they adjust their care accordingly. While nothing can replace the level of care family might provide at home, Tall Oaks comes incredibly close. The level of personalized attention is impressive. For my mom, they always make sure that gets to pick out her outfit and gets to meals early. I sincerely enjoy seeing the staff and getting to know them. A shout out for the team who cares for my mom: Margarita, Ama, Yah, Lurbin, Rosa, Zainab, and Amy! One of the most practical aspects of Tall Oaks is how they handle medication management. Unlike many places that charge extra for this service, Tall Oaks includes medication management as part of the monthly cost. This seems like such a simple, obvious decision, but it’s one that makes a world of difference. Missing medication is one of the leading causes of hospital visits for seniors, and having this taken care of without additional fees is a huge relief. In addition, residents see their doctors when they come, unless they choose not to. This common-sense approach to medical care makes life easier for everyone involved, especially for families who don’t have to constantly micromanage the care process. What truly sets Tall Oaks apart is their attitude. They approach care with the understanding that this is the residents' home, and they treat everyone like family. The nursing staff is not just competent but genuinely caring, and that makes it incredibly easy to work with them. They are some of the best people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. My husband has been staying at the Memory Care section of Tall Oaks for almost four years. The all around care and attention to his special needs are outstanding. I could list the names of the entire staff, but would like to mention two excellent caretakers on his floor: Mel and Silvia, whose work exceeds all expectations. Tall Oaks is a true gem. I was so impressed with the facility and staff that after touring I didn't continue to look anywhere else. The nurses are kind and detail oriented about each resident. The residents have been so welcoming to my mom. It's truly been a gift to find this wonderful community. Everything - activities, food, and environment is 5 stars. We also found it to be significantly less expensive (and more inclusive of care) than the places we toured prior. Absolutely worth a tour!!

We looked at a number of places for my uncle, and this was by the far best place AND the best price. We had some constraints, but Allison W. went out of her way to work with us! When our mom’s dementia grew worse, we struggled to find an appropriate place for her. After trying two places in the area, we found Tall Oaks. They have an amazing model for memory care so residents aren’t isolated. The staff ” the business staff, the nurses, the hands on aides, the activities staff - are diligent, kind, and proactivethis is not an easy thing to find and, after trying out other places in the area, I believe unique to Tall Oaks.

Tall Oaks is a wonderful facility, with all levels of care. Staff members are terrific and they know each resident and their needs. Staff also does a great job of communicating with caregivers and guardians and the facility is very well maintained. The interior spaces have pleasant, tasteful decor and the rooms are spacious. I looked at many different local places and Tall Oaks was the best.

My father had his 88th birthday this past week and Tall Oaks (Cheryl) prepared the most wonderful and delicious lunch for us; Beef tenderloin, bernaise sauce, baked potato, and green beans, desserts and drinks. We had a private seating area that was decorated with balloons, a birthday banner, and flowers on the table (Leslye). They thought of everything and did all that they could to give my dad a truly memorable celebration. The pandemic didn't hold us back at all and yet safety measures were always taken. I am so grateful to the entire staff at Tall Oaks for the care they give and the compassion they have shown to us.
