The Kensington Reston is a vital part of the Reston community. Kennsington lessons just a perfect place for elderly parents where they can see grandkids and make new friends and start a new chapter in the elderly generations golden years so lots of activities. Attended a great program on "Power of Planning: Creating Thoughtful Transitions", featuring 3 professionals to address different aspects of life as we age: Geriatric Care Manager, Estate Planning Attorney, and a Realtor focused on working with seniors. Very pragmatic presentations, sharing guidance on recognizing when it's the right time to move, identifying the right kind of care and support, the appropriate legal paperwork to have in place, how to plan downsizing and "moving on" - and how to simplify those transition/s. Speakers created a seamless package on how to address the needs - it was an excellent program, that could easily be repeated as a How To outline of necessary issues to address. Also want to add that the coordinator of the program, Kristine, has always done a super job identifying and arranging for interesting programs and speakers, warmly welcoming attendees, and being with all in a supportive friendly manner. She is a gem that Kensington is lucky to have!

Although retired, I still have an intense desire to continue to explore and learn about new topics, to expand my knowledge and to acquire new skills, all of which enhance my volunteer caliber with 3 organizations. The Kensington in Reston, has played a vital role in supporting my lifelong learning which keeps me mentally engaged, allows me to develop new relationships and to acquire a fervent sense of purpose and giveback in my retirement years. In my AARP volunteer role relative to Community Outreach, Kristine Llanes - Director of Outreach at The Kensington, has extended invitations to me on diverse topics. Examples of some of the recent learning opportunities that I have attended: lectures in Ask a Neurologist series, Caring Through The Holidays: A Positive Approach to Care Workshop and Boost Your Brain Health with the MIND diet. The guest speakers are phenomenal! Each one demonstrated authenticity, enthusiasm and allowed plenty of time for questions and comments. Complimentary side dishes and dessert are always served. The Kensington Assisted Living Community for Seniors emphasizes a caring perspective and attitude that prioritize compassion and connection. The philosophy: To love and care for your family as we do our own depicts a deep engagement and responsibility to both residents and their families. Kristine is an outstanding Director of Outreach for the Kensington and is very innovative in creating effective outreach programs. She is visionary, articulate and results-oriented. Her topics are inclusive as she fosters strong relationships with diverse community members. She and the staff are extremely energetic and enthusiastic and they foster a vibrant locality atmosphere. Everyone I interact with is resourceful, collaborative, friendly and professional. I am honored and privileged to have this opportunity to connect with such amazing individuals at The Kensington, Reston!

I moved my wife Debbie into the Kensington Reston in early November. Their staff from top to bottom are the pinnacle of the care industry and I highly recommend their services for your loved one. This includes the caregiving staff that will be performing all the daily intimate care for the resident, as well as the management, finance, sales, food service, maintenance, and nursing staff that also provide 24x7 support. There are daily live music happy hours, scheduled activities, excellent meals, and lots of smiles and laughter. My wife's condition was advanced at the time of admission, and she was placed into the Haven which is the top level of dementia care for the Kensington Reston. She was placed in hospice immediately, and her stay ended up being short. The end of life care was also excellent allowing me to be a supportive husband vs a full time caregiver for her final days. Family members were able to gather at her bedside during that time and celebrate her life. The Kensington team is laser focused on providing resident care, but they also recognize the importance of family support. I visited the facility daily and every staff member knew my name and said hello, I was offered drinks and meals, and anytime I made a request it was taken seriously and immediately addressed. One other point, the facility is licensed as an Assisted Living facility, not a Nursing Home, so be sure to understand the difference when exploring options. I am glad I made the decision to move my wife into the Kensington Reston, and wish I had made the decision sooner.

As a daughter-in-law helping my mother-in-law make a big life transition, I can honestly say The Kensington Reston has exceeded every expectation. The facility is beautiful, the care is top-notch, and the staff is endlessly kind, patient, and professional. Big family decisions can sometimes come with, shall we say... extra color commentary. But the team at The Kensington has handled everything with compassion and grace, always keeping the focus on what matters: the resident. We’re especially grateful that my mother-in-law now has the chance to be surrounded by people who genuinely care for her and who also encourage her to try new things. At the moment, she’s diving into just about every activity they offer to see what she likes. It’s like sending a very enthusiastic camper off to the world’s nicest adult summer camp...but the food is nothing like summer camp...it's fresh, homemade, healthy and flavorful (as a chef I am pretty picky and I would be happy eating here everyday). We’re sleeping better at night knowing she’s safe, supported, and even having a little fun. Highly, highly recommend.

A beautiful place, far bigger than it looks on the outside, recently visited for a Health Fair which was the best we've ever attended, vendors were free with helpful information on growing older, glad to see even our Reston Library present with all of its services, finally food was amazing and residents seemed very friendly! Thanks Kensington staff for a great time!

The team here has had remarkably low turnover since its grand opening four years ago”a rarity in an industry known for burnout. That stability is invaluable to residents, who find comfort in familiar, caring faces. Every staff member I’ve interacted with has been both professional and deeply committed to the well-being of residents. The leadership is outstanding, and the mission of caring for seniors runs deep throughout the entire team. My mom arrived at Kensington Reston after an acute hospital stay. At first, we thought a large skilled nursing facility might be our only option, but Kensington was able to accommodate her recovery, offering far more recovery support than most places. If you’re beginning your research, be cautious”many well-known national chains promise a full continuum of care during sales meetings, only for that support to disappear when it’s truly needed. Kensington, however, genuinely provides a higher level of care, adapting to residents’ changing needs rather than forcing abrupt transitions. When my mom arrived, she was a shadow of her former self. After just a few weeks, the color returned to her face, and we saw incredible improvements in her physical health”progress I doubt we would have seen in skilled nursing or elsewhere. The atmosphere at Kensington Reston is also special. It feels more intimate than larger assisted living facilities, and the residents seem genuinely happy. New residents are quickly welcomed into the community, making the transition easier for both them and their families. I also want to highlight Kensington Reston’s exceptional dementia care. My husband is in memory care at the Kensington in Reston, Virginia. He is getting excellent care. I am particularly impressed with the staff. They seem to know each person’s individual strengths, and cater to those. An added bonus is the place itself: it is beautifully appointed, and very comfortable for the residents.

Yes, Kensington is beautiful and the benefits match. But anybody can stage a property and take nice photos. Yes, they say they will care for your family as they do their own. But anybody can pump out great phrases that give you hope. Pretty photos and pretty words don't tell the story. My 90 year old father had spent a week in the hospital and experienced significant cognitive changes. In an effort to get him a safe discharge, I wanted to take the opportunity to get him into respite care with the hopes of transitioning him fully to a residence that could give him the support he needed. He happened to visit Kensington (one of several visits to different facilities) the day before his hospitalization so we began a 60 day respite stay. From day one, the staff at Kensington treated him with such grace and empathy and were supportive and available to me. My father can be a really difficult person, but age and medical conditions exacerbated the difficulties and made him combative, exit seeking, and inappropriate at times.. Kensington medical staff worked to get the right combination of medications to try to ease the symptoms of his dementia and anxiety while keeping me well informed of his medical, mental, and emotional state. No changes were ever made without notifying me, they were fantastic with communication. Despite the temporary status, he wasn't treated as a hotel’ guest and I truly felt that they cared about his well-being. He had another hospitalization due to a seizure and transferred to a rehab facility but staff at Kensington checked in with me regularly. More impressive though, is when I would come to the property a few times to grab some of his things Even the nursing staff asked how he was doing with such genuine kindness and asked me to tell him that they hope to see him soon. That meant a lot. I'm so appreciative of their help throughout this really complicated period, I don't think this review does much justice to just how much they did. My mom has lived at Kensington in Reston for three years. She began in assisted living, and is now in memory care. The staff are amazing. They treat the residents with respect, care, and concern. Every staff member I've asked questions of or assistance from I've received enthusiasm, professionalism, and tremendous empathy. I visit everyday and witness how all the residents are treated with love, concern, compassion, and kindness. My mom can no longer bathe herself, walk, toilet herself, or sometimes even feed herself, yet she is always clean, well groomed, well fed, and happy. Everyday there are new and exciting things for the residents to join in with - games, singing, talks, outings, crafts, and true comradery. They are a real family. The facility is always immaculate. I'm a clean freak, and everyday I'm pleased to see how clean and tidy the entire facility is. The Kensington is a gem among senior care facilities. My mom has told me she feels lucky to be in such a nice place, and I feel that way too. I want to add the food is the best! It exceeds many five star restaurants. Their chef is amazing and prides herself in making the freshest, most delicious food possible. No expense is spared when it comes to dining. Delicious!

The staff is extremely caring and very responsive. I often receive emails or a phone call with updates and when I reach out I always get a prompt response. Every member of the team from the kitchen staff, to the caregivers, nurses and activity people know my mom well and are always friendly and engaging with her. The facility itself is beautiful and extremely clean. I am also impressed by the number of staff working each day even on a holiday.

The Kensington Reston has been a wonderful transition for my parents from independent living to assisted living. They worked with us to make the move as smooth as possible, answering our questions and being faithful to find out the answers if they didn't know right away. The communication with the family each step of the way, and even once my parents were settled in has been a breath of fresh air. They alert us to changes in medication, and let us know about the little things, such as sending us a quick photo of them enjoying a group activity. It is their attention to little details that demonstrate the care and kindness with which they treat their residents. The very first morning they made sure that my mom had her favorite flavored coffee. Important? Not in the grand scheme of things, but it was that little detail that touched our hearts. The Kensington staff cares. They treat my parents with dignity. I feel good knowing my parents are safe, cared for, and happy.
